ダッジ・チャージャーがいよいよ復活する。新しいチャージャーはクライスラー・300シリーズや、ダッジ・マグナムとプラットホームを共有するスポーティな4ドア・セダン。まぁ簡単に言えば、300シリーズのバッジ違い/兄弟車なのだが、ボディパネルは専用となり、60年代のアメリカを席巻した“往年のマッスルカー”を強調するものとなっている。
ラインナップは6.1Lヘミを搭載した425馬力のトップモデル「SRT-8」を筆頭に、300シリーズ同様5.7Lヘミと3.5L-V6。しかし、ひとつ忘れてならない特別モデルが加わっている。それが「ダッジ・チャージャー・デイトナR/T」だ。

チャージャー・デイトナは、1960年代にNASCAR（ストックカーレース）のために制作されたクルマのネーミングで、チャージャーをベースにノーズコーンとスーパーウィングなどを備えたホモロゲ仕様である。残念ながら、新型には60年代当時のデイトナほど特徴的なウィングやノーズコーンは備わっていないが、スタンダード5.7Lヘミよりも各部がブラッシュアップされているのが特徴だ。
さらに新型には「R/T」のネーミングも加えられている。「R/T」はロード＆トラックの略で、ダッジのハイパフォーマンスシリーズに付けられたネーミングだった。新しいチャージャーにはこの「デイトナ」と「R/T」、2つの名前が冠されて登場する。
「デイトナR/T」のカラーバリエーションは2種類。“Go ManGo!” と呼ばれるオレンジ系と、 “Top Banana”と呼ばれるイエロー系だ。共にボンネット上およびボディサイドがブラックアウトされているので、ひと目で「デイトナR/T」と分かるエクステリアとなるだろう。
ボンネットを開ければ、ヘミオレンジに塗られたエンジンカバーが現れるなど、細部に至るまで往年のマッスルカーイメージを継承している「チャージャー・デイトナR/T」。スタンダード・チャージャーに加え、 魅力的な1台である。
