雪の仙台、その帰り道に見た車は・・・？！

4月16日（日）に開催予定だった、2006年PRA VW Drag Receの初戦となるPRA/MOONEYES Meetは、なんと4月に季節はずれの雪で仙台ハイランドは一面薄らと雪化粧、中止となりました。

前日の土曜日は天気もよく、多くのレーサーがスポーツ走行をしていたそうです。レースがある時は僕も土曜日のスポーツ走行を走るようにしています。理由としては車の調整等もありますが、万が一、日曜日が雨でも土曜日に走れていれば諦めも付くからです。でも2日共雨だった事が過去に数回あり、その時は結構がっくり来てしまいます。仙台で走ろうと思っている方は絶対土曜日に走っておく事をお勧めします。意外と土曜日は走れたけど、日曜日は雨で走れなかったというケースが多いのです。仙台ハイランドは日曜日、雨が多いのでしょうか？
ところが今回は雪です。山頂にあるレース場には数台のレースカーが前日より待機していたので、一時は下山できるか不安でしたが8：00am頃には雪も雨に変わり、無事全員下山できたのです。頂上の管理はPRAスタッフにお願いし、我々MOONEYES Staffは麓でやってくるレーサー＆観客に中止を伝えていましたが、物凄く寒かったです。遠くからこの日の為にやって来てくれた方々には申し訳ありませんが、路面がちょっとでも濡れたら走れないのがDrag Race、気候が不安定な日本では難しいレースです。こんな雪の中でもサーキットを走る車は沢山来ていました。
さて9：00amには我々も現地を離れ、帰途につきました。その帰り道の東北道で見た物は、なんとスカイラインGTR R34の覆面パトカーです。

適当なスピードでこのGTRを抜いたり、抜かれたりでしたが、スポーツコンパクトみたいな可変式リアスポイラーが付いていながら車高はノーマル、そして変なアンテナが2本リアガラスに付いていて　「変なGTR」なんて思い、「どんな人が運転しているのかな」と併走した時のドライバーはごく普通の人に見えたのです。追い越し車線を疾走して行くメルセデスをGTRが追走、赤色灯が屋根から出たのを見た時には本当にビックリしました。

その後もう一度今度は獲物を捕まえたGTRに近づくと、ナンバーは3ナンバーで普通に見えたはずのドライバーは何とブルーの制服を着ているではありませんか。
何とも理解できないのですが、最初に見た時はブルーの制服ではなかったような気がしたのですが、見間違えたでしょうか？本当驚きです。関越には3ナンバーのGTR、三菱GTO、そしてスープラまでいるといいますから、8ナンバーのクラウンだけ注意していたら捕まっちゃいますね。

On Sunday April 16th, The first PRA VW Drag Race at PRA/MOONEYES Meet was cancelled because of the SENDAI HI-LAND RACE WAY in Northern Japan was covered in snow even though it was still in April.

On the Saturday, day before was good weather and many racers were running on "sports run". I always run "sports run" on Saturday when I go for a race on Sunday because not just for tuning of race car but I can give up easily if I already run on Saturday even if it rains on Sunday. But there were few times in past that both Saturday and Sunday had rained and I was depressed then. I recommend "sports run" on Saturday to all race entrant for Sendai. There are many cases where Saturday was OK to run but Sunday was raining. May be SENDAI HI-LAND has rain on Sundays.

But this time it was snowing. There were race cars parked at front gate at top of the mountain from day before Despite the fear that they may not be able to clime down the mountain, snow turned to rain after 8 am and every one managed to clime down the mountain without accident.

PRA took care of people at top of mountain and we MOONEYES staff were telling racers and visitors that race was cancelled. We apologize for people who came long way to race and visit. But drag racing can not be held if racetrack is a little wet, very difficult race for unstable weather in Japan. As for the racers for circuit race, there were many racers coming to circuit field even in this snow.

We left after 9am and headed back home. And on the way back on "TOHOKUDO" HWY, we saw NISSAN SKYLINE GTR R34 Under Cover Highway Patrol Car.

We were cruising on highway going back and force of this SKYLINE which had remote adjustable rear wing like Sports Compact Car but sat on stock height with GPS antennas on rear window that didn't make sense. I was trying to look at driver of this strange SKYLINE GTR who happened to be just an average guy. But as GTR followed MERCEDES BENZ who passed by in fast lane in high speed, police red circular lamp popped out on roof of SKYLINE GTR and we were really surprised to find out that it was Under Cover Highway Patrol Car.

When we came close by to the hunted SKYLINE GTR, number plate was ordinary License Plate(Not Gov. License Plate) and driver had Highway Patrol's blue uniform on.

I don't know why but I thought I didn't see blue uniform when I first saw this SKYLINE pass by, may be I was wrong? I am still surprised. Someone say there are NISSAN SKYLINE GTR, MITSUBISHI GTO and TOYOTA SUPRA Under Cover Highway Patrol Car with ordinary License Plate on "KANETSU" HWY, one could get caught if only looking out for TOYOTA CROWN Under Cover Highway Patrol Car with police number plate(Gov. License Plate).
