7月23日は珍しくMOONEYESが出展するイベントの無い日曜日でした。
そんな訳でLong Beachで "SO-CAL Cycle Show & Swap" があったので、早起きして行ってきました。
早朝フリーウェイを走っていると、前方にWoodyを発見、この日はやはりLong Beachで老舗カークラブ Sultans Car Club 主催の "Signal Hill Car Show" もあったのでそれに行くWoodyだったのかもしれません。
Woodyをパスしサンディエゴ フリーウェイを北上して行くと、今度はまるで70年代にタイムスリップしたかのような綺麗なCB750を発見、懐かしいメッキのKarker（集合マフラーの事を昔はカーカーと呼んでいました）が付いていました。リアタイヤが少し太そうですが全体的にはGoodコンディションのストック、この体格の人が乗るとCB750がCB400くらいにしか見えませんね。ステップが高すぎて逆に疲れそうですが朝日を浴びてFWYを走るカッコいいCBでした。
そして会場であるLong Beach Veterans Stadiumに着くと既に沢山のバイクが集合していました。 こんな感じでバイクはライドインしてきます。バイクの展示、といっても好き勝手に駐車するだけですが、この「好き勝手にどうぞ」が我々日本人には結構難しく、気がつくと綺麗に一列に並んでいたりするんですね。ここはUSA、それこそ好き勝手に停めていました。
さて、今回は最近注目のOld TriumphのChopperを紹介します。綺麗なオリジナルですがこれをChopperにしちゃいますか？
MOONEYESの2台もここまでとは言えませんでしたがまったくのオリジナルでした。"Bobberスタイル" と "Chopperスタイル"、どちらが好みですか？Triumphはどっちもいけますね。
これはエンジンはTriumphが載っていますが部品はバラバラ、地面の上に置かれています。どうやら次の引き取り手を捜しているようです。
番外編で日本車エンジンのChopperです。リジットフレームが命ですがちゃんと作ったらきっとかっこ良くなると思います。日本車もカワサキW1とかヤマハXSの直立2気筒エンジンをベースで作るといいですね。勿論フレームが一番の鍵になって来るのは言うまでもありませんが。
このイベントは"サイクルショー"と言うので自転車関連もOKなのです。次回は8月27日だそうです。良かったら行ってみてください。

さて夏だというのに、カリフォルニアだっていうのに雨雲が遠方に見えだしました。ここも異常気象、昨日MOONEYES Shop周辺は110度くらい気温が上がり、会社のクーラーは役に立たず大変な暑さでした。雨に降られる前にCar Showを見に移動する事にしました。一日に2種類の違うイベントを掛け持ちできるとは何て幸せな所でしょう。

Sultansは年配の方が中心の正統派Car Clubで、今回のエントリー条件には「1975 and Older Show Quality Cars and Trucks」と分かり易く言えば「綺麗でなければ駄目ですよ」って感じです。なるほど会場には綺麗な車が多かったのもうなずけます。
何と名古屋出身のロドリゲスも参加していましたよ。新しいオーナーが色々なイベントに持って行くようです。日本だと有名なクルマを売り難いし、誰かの手に渡ってもどこかのイベントで見るという事もありませんね。その点このオーナーは素晴らしいですね。
僕が気にいったのはV-8を積んだこのVega Station Wagon、特にこの古いグリルにメッキ1本バンパーのVegaはカッコいいですね。VegaにV-8を換装するためにリアエンドもHDに交換するとホイルが5穴になりますが、フロントが4穴のままのVegaがたまにいます。このVegaはちゃんとフロントも5穴ホイルになってました。しかもリアをむやみに太くしない所がSleeperっぽくて尚カッコいいです。
そしてもう一つ会場で気に入ったのは$１で売られていたTACOSです。匂いにつられてTACOSを買っているとポツポツと雨が降り出し、あわててTACOSを持って軒下に非難、すると稲妻は光るし集中豪雨にはなるしで、結局雨宿りしながらTACOSを食べて帰る事にしました。
そんな事なのでCar Showの写真はあまり撮れませんでした。会社に戻って洗車して一日は終わりました。
This Sunday is rare Sunday as there is no event hosted by MOONEYES, USA. So I got up early and went to visit the "SO-CAL Cycle Show & Swap" at Long Beach, California.

Early morning on the way to Long Beach, I spotted Woody on freeway. There was a car show called "Signal Hill Car Show" hosted by old car club "Sultans Car Club", So may be that Woody was on the way to go to that event.

Passing that Woody and going north on the San Diego freeway 405, I spotted clean Honda CB750 that I felt like I traveled time back to the 70s', with chrome "Karker" headers which was pronominal for headers back then(Sorry, it's not YOSHIMURA). Even though the rear tire looked wider over all it was a good condition stock, the CB750 looks as small as CB400 when rider is this big. Step looked too high and tiring but it was Cool CB cruising in morning sun on freeway.

There were many Motorcycle gathered already at event space in Long Beach Veterans Stadium. People on Motorcycle ride in to the show like this. Display at show is left to the owner who ride in, this "free to display" way is a difficult way for Japanese as we end up displaying parked perfect clean in line. Like in the picture, free to display in USA end up with Motorcycle parked in every different way riders feel like.

Now on this issue, I like to introduce some Old Triumph Chopper. This is a clean original stock but shall we make Chopper out of this one?

MOONEYES has 2 Triumphs that were made from original, not same as but almost like this. Bobber Style and Chopper Style, which one do you prefer? Triumphs looks good on both styles.

This one has Triumph motor but parts are all apart on ground. Looks like they need next owner.

There were some different Choppers with Japanese motor. The ridged frame is the key for these bikes so it should look good if frames are made perfectly. May be good idea to use KAWASAKI W-1 or YAMAHA XS with Vertical 2 cylinder engine as a base. No doubt that frame will be most important to these projects.

As this event is cycle show, bicycles are also involved in show. The next show is on August 27th, 2006. Please visit if you have a chance.

Now even in the middle of summer in California, rain clouds were seen far away. The unusual weather is seen here too, yesterday it was 110F in area of MOONEYES Shop, The air conditioner was no use in that hot temperature. Before rain hits, decided to leave to look at the other show. California is very nice place to be with 2 shows to go and look on same day.

Sultans is traditional car club with members are mainly older guys. This event entry had regulation such as "1975 and Older Show Quality Cars and Trucks" that simply saying must be beautiful or at least clean car. So it was understandable to see many beautiful cars.

There was "RodRiguess" originally from Nagoya, Japan at the event. The new owner is taking it to all kind of event. Its hard to sell famous car in Japan and hardly see again in next owners hand. This owner is excellent about that.

The car I liked was this Chevy Vega Station Wagon with Chevy V-8. Vega is cool specially one with this old grill and chromed one piece bumper. Vega with V-8 has rear end swapped to HD ones like Ford 9" and matching 5 lug wheels are used, But Some time the front end is left stock with 4 lug wheels, but this Vega was swapped with 5 lugs on front wheel too. Also it was cool like sleeper with these rear tires which is not too extremely wide like Pro Street Look.

The other thing that I liked at the show is this 1 dollar TACOS. I was lead to buy TACOS with its nice smell and then the rain came down. I quickly went under the shade and decided to eat my TACOS while this rain turned to heavy rain and Thunder light lightning out side.

That's why I don't have many car shows picture. Then I went back to office, washed my car and finished my Sunday.
