常磐道、磐越道、東北道で仙台へ

9月10日(日）仙台ハイランド Japan Drag RacewayでSuper Shot主催のSo Cal Speed TrialがPRA VW Drag Raceと一緒に開催されたので、前日の土曜日から常磐道を北上し仙台に向かう事にしました。
我々は7時に横浜本牧をハイエースで出発、常磐道、磐越道、東北道で仙台に向かい、10日同時開催のPRA VW Drag RaceにVW T-Iで参加する相澤君は5時に横浜を出発、東北道を使い途中のショップにお邪魔しながら仙台を目指しました。
常磐道東海PAで小休止、そうしたら何と現役3輪車も休憩中でした。この3輪車でどの位のスピードが出るのでしょうか？それにしても、もの凄く長いロングベッドです。
休憩後、いわき市を目指し北上すると突然右車線を物凄いスピードで追い越して行ったMOON Tシャツ姿のバイク、ディーゼルのハイエースで必死に追いかけ、後ろからパッシングしたり、あの手この手でこちらの存在を知らせても、中々スローダウンしません。
やっと気が付いてくれて並走すると、なんといつもイベントを手伝ってくれるメンバーの正田君でした。どうやら仙台に行くので先を急いでいたようです。
正田君を追いかけるのでスピードを出したため、カーナビに表示されていた到着予定時間より早くいわき市のHDショップ、Dice Motorcycleさんに到着。
丁度、社長の酒井さんは、途中で壊れたお客様のHDを引き上げに出かけている最中でした。そのような極め細かいサービスがDice Motorcycleの人気の秘密かもしれません。店内ではロングフォークのHDを整備中、外には数台のHDがあり、カスタムの注文が途切れないそうです。昨年のホット ロッド・カスタム ショーにもエントリーして下さり、今年も参加を御願いし、次の目的地、郡山へ向かいました。コーヒー御馳走様でした。

磐越道をから郡山市内へ向かう道の途中にいきなり大きなMOONサインがあったので、尋ねてみるとコンノ タイヤ サービスさんという、古くからの取引先、ちょっとお邪魔しご挨拶をさせて頂きました。

そして市内にある、国産バイクをメインにカスタムしている添野商会さんへたどり着き、ここはオーナーの添野さん御夫妻で切り盛りしているので大変忙しそう、行った時は御主人はお客様のバイクをカスタム中でした。
外には珍しいKawasakiの90ccが2台もありました。ちなみにバイクを運ぶトランスポーターはニッサン720ミニトラック、いいですね！

市内から東北道の郡山インターチェンジに向かう途中、前回にもお邪魔したBlazeさんに立ち寄り、そのまま東北道を北上。すると何と2時間も前に出発したはずの相澤君が前を走っていたのです。
日も暮れ、最後に名取のCosmicさん（http://www.esda.co.jp）を尋ねたら、三浦さんはクラッシック音楽を聴きながら一人でHDカスタムに没頭中。間の悪い時間にお邪魔したにも関わらず三浦さんは笑顔で迎えてくれて、今年のホット ロッド・カスタム ショーに出展予定のHDのシートが出来たと見せてくれました。この日はこのまま仙台市内に宿泊し、「利休」で牛タンを食べたのでした。
翌日はRace。早朝曇っていましたが次第に明るくなり、花曇状態で一日持ちました。
相澤君はPRA Drag Raceの入門コース、Step by Stepに参加、ソロランでしたが3回走りました。自分の赤いVWで走るよりエンジンを廻していると思ったのは僕だけでしょうか？
ガレージライフ誌編集長のガッツ石原君は、レースに参加中もヘルメットを被り写真撮影とは恐れ入りました。さすがガッツ！
今回　BEEHAUSの植野さんも石原君の付き添い久々に仙台に登場、だから天気が持ったのかもしれませんね。
静岡、富士からは床屋さんの西野さんが愛車マーベリックで参加。あまり強くアクセルと踏みつけるもんだからリンケージが壊れてしまいました。アクセルを床まで踏むだけなんですが、僕はいつもお尻がシートから浮いていました。
小田原のパンプキンサリーの佐藤さんは'35 Ford Pick Upで、
静岡の北島さんは'29 Ford Model-Aで自走で参加。大変盛り上がりました。
Speed Triaｌは参加車のレベルがあがり、10秒台を記録するクルマが続出、一台は10秒をきってしまいました。少しずつですが確実に進化しているのが分かるSo Cal Speed Trialでした。

17時にハイランドを後に帰路につきましたが、福島県内は雷と共なる集中豪雨の為、東北道は50kph規制となり、途中で事故はあるし、くたくたの帰り道、Gas Stationで給油中に
パンプキンサリーの2台も給油に入って来ました。この後彼らとは蓮田SAでも会いましたが、その時佐藤さんのクルマに不具合発生、修理を始めていました。じゃお先に！って先に出てしまいましたが無事帰れたかな？彼らもガッツあるなぁ！
On the Sunday 10th of September, at Sendai High Land /Japan Drag Raceway, Shop called "Super Shot" hosted "So Cal Speed Trial" with PRA VW Drag Race, so we have decided to go to Sendai from day before on Saturday and drove north on Jyoubandou Highway to Sendai North side Japan.
We have left on 7 am from Honmoku, Yokohama on Hi Ace VAN and drove on Jyoubandou Highway, Banetsudou HWY, Touhokudo HWY to Sendai and MOONEYES Staff Aizawa has made entry to PRA VW Drag Race on 10th left Honmoku, Yokohama at 5am on 1963 VW Type I and drove up Touhokudo HWY making visit to some shops in between to Sendai.

We were taking little break on Jyoubandou HWY, Toukai Parking Rest Area and this still running old Mazda Three wheeler was taking rest too. Wonder how fast this Three wheeler can go? And this bed length is really long.

Then we went back on highway again to North to Iwaki city and this Bike passed us on right side with tremendous speed and this rider was wearing a MOONEYES T-shirts! We try to reach him with diesel fueled Hiace, try to make contact with flashing hi beam head light and anything we can think of, then finally he noticed us and slowed down to cruise on side by side. It was Mr. Shouda who helps us on our events, he was on his way to Sendai.

As we made high speed cruise on chasing Mr. Shouda, we arrived at HD Shop in Iwaki city called "Dice Motorcycle" before estimated time of arrivals by GPS.
The president Mr. Sakai was out when we arrived, picking customers HD which broke down on street and may be this kind of service is making customer to choose "Dice Motorcycle". Inside shop Long Folk HD was inside for maintenance and several HD waiting on out side, the custom orders were keep coming in. The Dice Motorcycle had made entry to last years YOKOHAMA Hot Rod Custom Show and we have asked for entry to our '06 YOKOHAMA Hot Rod Custom Show this year too. Then we moved to next destination "Kooriyama city". Thank you for the Coffee!

There was big sign of MOON on the way to Kooriyama city from Banetudo HWY, so we stopped by. It was KONNO Tire Service who is our dealer from old days so we made visit to say Hi.

Then we made visit to "Soeno Shoukai Motorcycle Shop", here custom works on mostly Japanese Domestic bikes are main. The "Soeno Shoukai" was run by Mr. & Mrs. Soeno and both seem to be very busy. Mr. Soeno was doing custom work on customer's bike when we arrived.

There were two old Kawasaki 90cc in front of shop which is very rare. Transporter to move their bike is a Nissan 720 Mini Truck, isn't it cool.

On the way from city of Kooriyama to Touhokudo HWY, Kooriyama Inter change, We stopped by shop "Blaze" where we stopped in April too and headed on Touhokudo HWY to north, There was Aizawa's VW driving in front of us who left 2 hours ahead from us in Yokohama.

As the sun went down we made last visit of the day at shop "Cosmic" [Web Site: http://www.esda.co.jp] and Mr. Miura was listening to classic music and concentrating on HD custom work, even though we visited at time of his intense work, Mr.Miura welcomed us with smile and showed us brand new custom seat of HD for this years Hot Rod Custom Show. That day we stayed at Sendai city and had famous Beef tang at "RIKYUU" restaurant.

Next day was race! It was cloudy in morning but turned out sunny for the rest of the day.

Aizawa made entry to PRA Drag Race Beginners course called "Step by Step", took 3 solo run. Is it just me noticed he was running with more higher RPM on this VW Type I than his own Red VW Type I?

Chief Editor of GARAGE LIFE Mr. "Guts" Ishihara was shooting during the race with helmet on, That's Guts!

This time VW Shop BEEHAUS, Mr. Ueno who own "Insanity" and other famous VW X-race cars showed up at Sendai for helping Mr. Ishihara. May be that's why the weather stayed sunny.

From Shizuoka city, Fuji, barber shop owner, Mr. Nishino "Nishinishi" raced on his Maverick and stepped too hard on gas pedal and broke the linkage. It's just stepping on the gas but I had my hips lifted from seat every time.

From Odawara city, Pumpkin Sally's owner Mr. Sato '35 Ford Pick Up and Mr. Kitajima from Shizuoka city '29 Ford Model-A drove and they were making great scene.

Entrant at Speed Trial has raised its level with many cars marking on 10 seconds and one made less then 10 seconds, it was 9.57! The So Cal Speed Trial has evolved and advancing.

At 5pm we left Raceway to head back home, but Touhokudou HWY had speed limit of 50kph(30mph) due to heavy rain and thunder storm plus accident on highway made more traffic and we were tired. While we were feeding gas in gas station, Pumpkin Sally's two Hot Rods came for gas too. We saw them at Hasuda Rest Area again and Mr. Sato had some trouble with his '35 and started to repair. I hope they made back safely as we left before them. They got guts too!
