Morning Cruise


今回、先日のブログで紹介したKirkに誘われ、V-8 Crownで初めて参加してきました。


参加するにはEFIの調子を見てもらわないといけないので、近所のShopにCrownを持ち込むと、

　 　
ライセンスプレートがブループレートとかブラックプレートの付いた、なんともいい感じの車があるShopが何軒か並んでいました。


日曜日、Kirkと朝6:30にSouth Coast Plazaの駐車場で合流し、


センチュリーとクラウンの2台で405FWYをSouthに下り、


5FWYと交わるちょっと手前のIrvine Center Driveで降りてすぐの商業施設の駐車場でCruiseは開催されていました。

Southern California、Newport Beachから少しSouthへ行ったCrystal Coveと言うところで開催されていたモーニングクルーズは、以前ブログで紹介しましたが、その後、その場所での開催が困難となり場所をIrvineに移し続けられていたのです。
実はここは昔、Orange County Int'l Racewayがあった場所です。　
このIrvine Center Driveで降り、左折し、405FWYを渡りすぐ右折、5FWYを渡るとそこがOCIRだったのです。
今ではとても想像できませんが、廻りはオレンジやアスパラ、イチゴ畑ばかりだったのです。


ちょっとCruise会場裏の土手に上がってみると、「この5FWYの反対側にあったんだなー」、

そして5FWYのサインに昔を思い出しました。


久しぶりのCrownは朝も早かったので、室内に流れ込む熱気も少なく、気持ち良いドライブが出来ました。
もうこの車を製作して15年が経とうしています。


Kirk, mentioned in a blog entry just the other day, decided to take his Electronic Fuel Injected Chevy V-8 ZZ3 powered 1960 Toyota Crown on its first outing to the cruise.
Just to make sure the Crown can handle the cruise, the EFI needs to be touched so it is dropped off at a neighborhood shop.
What a shop! So many cars with California blue license plates and older black plates lined up inside. Just like a scene from the past.

Sunday, Kirk and I met at 06:30 AM in the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa parking lot.
With two Toyotas, a Century and a Crown, we took the 405 FWY, Southbound and crossed on to I-5.
Just before Irvine Center Drive, we exited and right where we got off was the parking lot where the cruise met.

Just a bit south from Newport Beach, in Southern California, is a place called Crystal Cove.
The morning cruise has been posted about in a prior blog entry but after that time, it was relocated to Irvine because of difficulties with the surrounding area.

Actually, this is the location of the old Orange County Int'l Raceway.
You would take Irvine Center Drive, make a left, cross over 405 and right after on the right hand side cross I-5 and right there was OCIR.

Just behind the cruise meeting area up an embankment, right on the opposite side of I-5 was where it was... and the I-5 sign reminds me of some old memories.

It's been a while for the Crown, this early in the morning and the flow of air coming inside isn't hot.
It was a refreshing and pleasant drive. It's been 15 years since the Crown was build. That's a long time.
