Freakn' Four 1972 Honda Dream CB 500 K-1

昨年の夏European Bug In #2に行った際 Netherlands(オランダ)のShopに寄り、
このCB500を見つけ思わず購入してしまったけど何もオランダで買わなくて日本
でもUSでも買えるって?! でも出会いが大切だからって事で納得。
購入した時から70's Southern CaliforniaのFreeway等で良く見かけた リアショックを
RigitBarに変更したHonda CBのDrag Bike風にしようと決めていた。

Last year while I was attending the European Bug In #2, I saw this CB500at a shop
we visited in the Netherlands and without any hesitation,
purchased it. I didn't have to purchase it from the Netherlands and knowthey are available in Japan
and the US but there's a reason foreverything and I believe in encounters like this.
After purchasing it, I remember thinking back to the 70s, when I would see on the freeways of
Southern California, how the rear shocks were swapped for rigid bars.

と言っても当時CB500ベースは少なくほとんどはCB750, それでも大柄なUSA人が乗っていると
CB750が CB500位の大きさに見えてしまう。小柄な日本人が乗るならCB500で丁度良いと思う。

That's when I thought about doing this and making the Honda CB with aDrag Bike style to it.
Back then, a CB500 was hardly used as a base.
Instead it was the CB750, but when an American is on a CB750, the bikelooks more like a CB500.
For us smaller Japanese, I think a CB500 was asbig as I wanted to go.

そんな訳でリアはRigit Bar、リムはボラーニのH型アルミリム、タイヤはFrontが
Avon Speedmaster 3.00-19 リアは MH Drag Slick Tire4/26.6-18, このDrag Slick Tireが
Key,なかなか見つからない、探すのに1年掛かり最終的にはPaintをしてくれた Harpoonが
「友人のだけど使うなら良いよ!」って譲ってくれたのが11月の初め、一度Avon Tireを組んでいたのを
組み直しMH Tireを入れてみると四角すぎてカッコいい!

So, the rear shocks were changed to rigid bars, Borani H model aluminum rims with the front tire
being an Avon Speedmaster 3.00-19 and the rearbeing a MH Drag Slick 4/26.6-18.
This Drag Slick is Key and very hard tofind and took one year to locate and only because Harpoon,
who did thepaint, hard one and said, "It's my friends, but if you want to use it,
go for it." That was in November. At first it was Avon tires on front and back but after changing
the rear to the MH Tire and seeing the square shape of the tire, it look so cool and so right!

マフラーはオリジナルで作り、フロントチューブはCB750のをカットしDrop, ヘッドライトステーは
70'sKawasaki Bikeに使われていた物で当時もカスタム(昔なら改造)にはこのステーを
使っていたと言う物でも今探すとなるとなかなか見つからない。

The exhaust is one-off original, the front tubes are from a CB750 that have been cut to Drop it down,
the headlight stays (brackets) are from a 70s Kawasaki Bike from that era which were commonly
used or customizing bikes but arenot that easy to find today.

でもYahoo やe-bayを探していると何となく見つかるから便利な時代になったと思う。
時代考証をしかっりしようと思えばこうして時間を掛けて探せばしっかり出てくる、後はお金次第。
昔だったら目に入らない物は手に入らなかった。それとフィンのタ
ペットカバーとかポイントカバー等も集め、ハンドルはオリジナルを1インチずつ両側をカット
(もったいない)、ライト&メーター廻りはオリジナルをそのまま残した。

However, with the assistance of Yahoo JP Auctions or eBay, it has made searching much easier.
If you look hard enough and long enough for anything, it's bound to come up.
The realpoint is having the money at the right time to buy it. Back in the day,
you could only buy what was within literal reach.
The fin and tappet cover, the point cover, etc. were collected overtime.
The handlebar is original stock that was shortened 1-inch on bothsides (what a waste),
the light & gauges are original stock and left inplace.

特にノーマルのヘッドライトはやたら大きいけど70sのDrag Bikeはここに丸いプレートでナンバーが
書いてあったりしたのでその雰囲気を残したかったのとアンバランスのバランスが好きなので
定番の小型ヘッドライトは見送った。
The stock headlight is actually a bit too big but for a 70s Drag Bike,
it would have a large round number plate right there so it hasthat feel to it.
Trying to balance something that is unbalanced, I did try on a smaller headlight to see how it looked.

シートはまったくオリジナル。フレームの幅に細見にマッチしたBest Seat。
Paintは今回のショーにも参加したHarpoon(詳しくはMOON IllustratedMagazine#4に彼の事は
詳しく紹介されています)、 見た人がFreak OutするようなCustom Paintを得意とする彼らしい作品に
仕上がった。
アルミ部分はPolishで磨きあげクローム、Custom Paint, 日本のバイクもカッコいいね!

The seat is completely original.
I wanted a seat the fit flush as possible to the frame and this was the Best Seat.
The paint, as mentioned before, was handled by Harpoon, whom was featured in MOON Illustrated Magazine #4.
I wanted a paint job that people would see and Freak Out so I turned to someone that had the ability
and I've seen and liked many of the bikes he has painted.
Aluminum parts were polished chrome, Custom Paint, and a Japanese bike so it looks cool!

ショー会場では1974年に製作されたHonda Step Vanと展示、このStep Vanは2年前他界した
Specialty Auto Worksの故鵜川淳氏が製作した物で当時としてはこのPaintで僕らはFreak Outした。
と、70sも悪くないね!　　　

At the show, it was on display with a 1974 Honda Step Van.
This Step Van was built by the late Jun Ukawa of Specialty Auto Works
who passed away two years ago. When I first way this paint job, I freaked out,
so it was perfect to show them together. See, the 70s weren't too bad!

Gabe's Slag Lamp

友人が製作販売している Slag Lamps です。
A friend of mine makes and sells Slag Lamps.

吊るすタイプがメインですが　僕は無理をお願いしてスタンドタイプにしてもらいました。
The main types are hanging lamps but I pleaded for a stand type and got one made.

早速 Fire Place の前に置いてみました。良い感じじゃありませんか！
I immediately set it up in front of the Fire Place. And it really looks great!

そして、これは彼の Chopper の Gas Tank です。
And this is my friend's Chopper Gas Tank.
Amazing!！！

Freeway　そしてついに完成2009年MOONEYES Catalog/MOON Illustrated Magazine #3

15日（水）日本へ帰るため、まず 1985 El CaminoでMOONEYES USAへ寄ってからLAX(LA Int'l Airport)へ向いまいした。
Returning back to Japan on the 15th (Wed), first I made a visit to MOONEYES USA in this 1985 El Camino then headed to LAX (LA Int'l Airport).

会社へ向かうFreeway(FWY)上でDodge Challengerを発見。最近こう言う人気ないMuscle Car見かけなくなりました。
On the Freeway (FWY) heading for the shop, I saw this Dodge Challenger. You don't see very many of this type of Muscle Car anymore.

このタイヤの細さとかサイドモールデイング、レザートップ、70年代していますね。もしかするとベンチシートでコラムA/Tかも知れないなんて勝手に想像しながら写真を撮りました。
The narrow tires, full side molding, black vinyl top, it's totally 70's era. As I took pictures, the thought of it having a bench seat and column A/T came to mind.

サイドミラーに映った姿が映画みたいです。
The picture of the car in my side mirror looks like something from a classic movie.

会社からLAXに向うFWYからはこれから乗る予定の飛行機が着陸態勢に入っていました。
From the shop I headed for LAX and while on the FWY I saw the airplane I planned on flying coming in for a landing.

LAXで下ろしてもらってチェックイン、一路成田へです。
I was dropped off at LAX check-in, for a one way flight to Narita.

成田到着は翌日の16日（木）、この日はMOON Illustrated Magazine(MIM)#3が会社に納品される日、そしてこのMIM#3の完成打ち上げDinnerをMOON Space Agency（広告部）関係者と一緒にSoy Sauceステーキで有名な Jack's レストランで開きました。
Arrival in Narita is a day later on the 16th (Thurs), which is the day that MOON Illustrated Magazine (MIM) #3 stock will be delivered. In the evening that night, to celebrate the completion and launch of MIM#3, Moon Space Agency (Advertising) had Soy Sauce Steak Dinner at the famous Jack's Restaurant.

Jack'sはMOONEYES Staffにとって特別な響きを持つレストラン、Specialな時に利用しています。Jack's初参加のPan君とSteveはそわそわ、夕方は仕事も手に付かなかったそうです。
Jack's has always catered to MOONEYES Staff very well so for special occasions we like to go there.First timers to Jack's was Pan and Steve. Apparently, they were so restless they couldn't concentrate on any work from the afternoon.

Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet

Southern California , Long Beachで毎月開催される（今年から毎月）Long Beach Swap Meetに
MOONEYESも出店していますがこの所少しづつではありますが認知されてきたようです。
Held each month (once a month started this year) in Long Beach, southern California is the Long Beach Swap Meet. MOONEYES has a space there and although small it’s been getting noticed more recently.

と思っているとはるかかなたにMOON Cafeのパーカーを着た人が歩いているではありませんか！
結構　日本製製品が人気あります。嬉しい事に「これ日本製？」って良い響きで尋ねられのです。
Just as I thought this, off in the distance I spotted someone wearing a MOON Cafe hooded jacket! Japanese products are reasonably popular right now. I heard the question, "Is this made in Japan?" being asked quite a bit.

まずMOONEYES Wildman石井デザインのMotorcycle Tシャツの人気は凄い！
However, MOONEYES Wildman designed Motorcycle T-shirts were amazingly popular!

そしてこのハンドル実は、IM Factoryさんが作ってくれているのですが、注目度かなり高いです。
These handlebars were also popular. These are made by IM Factory in Japan and get a lot of attention.

Brat Style製のハンドルの人気がありますし、このRat Fink SkateboardやBull Original製のMOONEYES SeatやRat Fink Seatも大人気でした。
Brat Style in Japan made handlebars were also popular as well as the Rat Fink Skateboard and these Bull Original, handmade, MOONEYES and Rat Fink seats are also from Yokohama Japan.

そうしたら目の前にさっきのMOON Cafeパーカーが反対側の店で何か見ていたので
「それどうしたの？」と聞いたら「昨年のHot Rod・Custom Showに行った際に購入した」との事。ありがとうございます。
All of a sudden, right in front of me at a table across from us was the person wearing the MOON Cafe hooded jacket from earlier. I got a chance to ask him about it and he said it bought it when he was at the Hot Rod Custom Show last year. Thank you very much.

今回サンプルで持って行った5.5QTのChopper Oil Tankも注目を集めていましたし、
勿論、通常のChopper Oil Tankは根強い人気でした。
We brought a sample with us this time of the new 5.5qt Chopper Oil Tank and it got a lot of attention, of course, like a general Chopper Oil Tank would get.

USではまだ正式には発売していないEmergency Fuel TankはSampleをどうしてもと言う人が購入してくれました。
Although it's not officially released in the US, we brought our Emergency Fuel Tank and aluminum bracket sample and someone purchased it.

会場にはあふれんばかりのハーレーだったので、気になったCB500とモンキーです。
At the swap meet there was an overflow of H-D bikes but this Honda CB500 caught my eye as well as this Honda Monkey.

Swapt Meetでは昨年HCSに来日したMarkがブースを出していました。
Mark, a guest from HCS last year, had a space setup at the swap meet too.

初めのころはあまりパッとしなかったMOONEYESブースをめげることなく出店し続けてくれたYoshi君、ありがとう。
今年からこのSwap Meetは毎月になりました。数年前まで閑古鳥が鳴いていたような状況でしたが
やはり「継続」ですね。今は入りきらない位の状況です。
At first, the MOONEYES table wasn't very popular but we are thankful that Yoshi didn't run away and stuck it out.
Beginning this year, the swap meet is held once a month. A number of years ago it was struggling but they continued on. Now, it's like there isn't enough room for everyone to enter.

MOONEYES USA Machine Shop

MOONEYES USAのMachine Shopの中です。
使っている機械はすべて古い物です。Computerで動く物は一つもありません。Machine Shopで一番新しいテクノロジーはプッシュボタン式電話です。

The machines that are used are all old. There are no computers connected or running the machines. The newest technology being used in the Machine Shop is the push-button telephone.

これはMOON DiscsやMOON Tankを作るためのSpining Machineです。日本では「シボリ」と呼ばれていますね。今MachineにセットされているのはMOON Discを作る出すための金型です。
This is the Spinning Machine which is used to make MOON Discs and MOON Tanks. In Japan, the process is called "Shibori". Right now, the machine is setup with a metal mold for making MOON Discs and the rods and dies are used for shaping.

長い２台はエンジン旋盤機で、１台はMOON TANKのボディーを 「SUN RAY」加工したり、カムシャフトを「トルーイング」加工するために使います。もう1台は、バングなどを加工するのに使うものです。
2 long ones are engine lathe and one we use to sun ray tank bodies and camshaft trueing. other we use to machine parts such as bungs,.

壁側に並んでいる２台のマシーンは 「ブリッジ・ポート ミリング マシーン」といって、 ボール盤の基本機能に加えて、アングルをつけてドリルしたり、表面を削るなどができるものです。
2 against wall are bridge port milling machine. it's like drill press, but with more functions and angles to drill or cut surface.

今日はFinlandからPinstriperのPekkaが立ち寄ってくれたので、Dean MOON Jr.がShopツアーをしてくれました。

HONDA Dream CB500

Honda Dream CB500、ホンダドリームです。名前がいいですね。
70年代は夢に向かっていた時代だったのでしょうか？
僕はまだ高校生だったころですから　毎日が楽しくてしょうがない時代でした。
This is a Honda Dream CB500. What a great name, isn't it.
Was the 70s an era about reaching your dreams?
I was still in high school around that time there was nothing to do but enjoy each day.

色々なバイクを所有したり、友人から借りたりして原宿、青山、赤坂周辺を毎日走り廻ったその時代　唯一転ばなかったバイクはこのCB500と友人から長期拝借していたXS-1でした。
I owned various bikes, even borrowed from friends and rode around Harajuku, Aoyama and the outskirts of Akasaka in Tokyo everyday - those were the days. One of the only bikes I didn't fall down on was this CB500 as well as an XS-1 that I had borrowed for a long period from a friend.

このCB、ヨシムラの手曲げ製集合マフラーにサイレンサー代わりにグラスウールを突っ込んでいましたが、加速するたびに燃えてしまい、すぐ直管になってしまったのでこのサイレンサーを作ってもらったら
少し長くなってしまったのです。ホイルはボラーニ、エンジンはヨシムラでボアアップ、コンチネンタルハンドルにカワサキのヘッドライトステー、昔はこの程度でもCafeなんて言っていたのです。
The CB was equipped with the famous 4-into-1 hand bent exhaust by Pop Yoshimura and used an "SOS" as a silencer, but didn't work well. Each time the bike accelerated, it would burn and quickly resulted in a straight pipe. So I ended up getting a silencer made for it although it was a little too long. The bike also had Borrani Aluminum rims, the engine was souped up by Pop Yoshimura, it had Continental handle bars and a Kawasaki headlight bracket. Back then, even this slight degree angle was considered Cafe racer style.

この後すぐバーエンドミラーがポピュラーになりましたがその頃には僕は1967 VW T-IIに乗っていました。このCBで中央高速をスっ飛ばし八王子にあったヨシムラを訪ねたものでした。
Just after this time period, bar-end mirrors became popular but around then I was riding a 1967 VW T-II. I used to take the CB on the Chuo Expressway and fly over to Hachioji where Yoshimura Racing was located.

そしてそれから約36年経ってまたCB500を買ってしまいました。　
So then, approximately 36 years later, I bought another CB500.

と言ってもこのCBどこから来たと思います？The Netherlands-オランダからです。　
昨年７月、European Bug Inに行った際見つけてしまったのです。
Flat-4の小森社長と藤田Naoさんに無理をお願いし　物を運ぶコンテナに入れて頂き日本へ運んでいただきました。ありがとうございました！
Where do you think this CB is from? It's from the Netherlands. I found it last year in July while on my trip to the European Bug In. I requested the impossible from Flat-4 president Mr. Komori and Mr. Nao Fujita and had it put into a container with other things that was heading back to Japan. Thank you very much!

このPaint, Seat, 4 into 1 muffler何とも言えませんね。　
そしてこのタペット調整用ホールの飾りボルト、当時は当たり前にあった物が今では手に入り憎いのでこんな物でも付いていると感動です。まずは　走るようにする事が先決のようです。
I love the 70s era Paint, Seat and 4-into-1 muffler though. The decorative bolt on top of the head, at the time, of course there were many everywhere but now a days it's difficult to get one's hands on so seeing this kind of stuff on a bike is really impressive.
First priority is to get it running and registered.

古い写真を整理していたらもう一枚、これは友人のCB750
As I was sorting through old photos, out came another one.

これでも天現寺周辺（現山王ホテル前）でトラックの後ろに突っ込み転んでいます。
このシートですがシート屋にアメリカのChoppeｒ雑誌を持って行き、段が付いたシートを作ろうとしたのですが理解されずなぜか和式トイレみたいのが完成。
その後、この後ろ部分がどんどん伸びたのが族バイクのシートにある背もたれが長ーい奴に変化したのです。このシートがその起源ですね。これの前にはそんなシートありませんでした。
This was my friend's CB750. I rode it into the tail end of a truck near Tengenji, Tokyo (in front of the Sanno Hotel).
The seat was custom made. We took an American Chopper magazine to a seat shop and requested one like the picture but for some reason they didn't understand and the final result was a Japanese style toilet looking thing. Later on, the rear portion of the seat started stretching out.
It eventually turned into a back rest like the Bosozoku (Japanese biker gangs) bikes. It was the beginning of that style of seat too. Before that, those seats did not exist.

ついでにもう一枚、Blue Maxのダイゴこと中村大吾はこのSuzuki ハスラー250 モトクロッサーで川崎から青山まで通学していました。後ろは僕のDT250。
当時でもモトクロッサーで街を走ると捕まりました。
昔も今も変わりませんよ。
And just one more, a friend of mine, DAIGO of Blue Max, Daigo Nakamura's Suzuki Hustler 250 Motocrosser. He would commute to school from Kawasaki to Aoyama in Tokyo. In the back is my Yamaha DT250. Even in those days, you could be arrested if you drove a motocrosser on the streets.
That hasn't changed even today.

Honda CB750 K-3 Cafe Racer

CB750のCafe Racerです。
７０年代、Cafe Racerって流行りました。
このビルダーはイギリスの人ですが、日本ではヨシムラ集合にコンチネンタルハンドルとか多かったですね。今回Pomonaで開催されたショーに出展されていました。
This is a CB750 Cafe Racer.
Cafe Racers of the 70s era are currently popular.
The builder of this bike is from the United Kingdom but back in the 70s in Japan, we used to use a lot of Japanese parts like Yoshimura 4 into 1 hand bent muffler, Continental Style handlebars etc.
This bike was on display at the event held in Pomona, CA.

1966 Harley Davidson FL Police Special

1966 Early Shovel Police Special 元はRobのＨＤです。　縁あって日本へやって来ましたが完成したのでFor Saleです。
1966 early Shovelhead Police Special used to be Rob's H-D. Destiny brought
it to Japan and now that it has been completed, it's For Sale.

ショーまであと10日

昨日　コンテナからUSからの車とバイクを引き出しました。
The cars and motorcycles that were shipped from the US were pulled out of the containers yesterday.
この時期になるとショーが始まるって感じがしてきます。
At this time of year, I always get this feeling inside, like the show is about to begin.

今年のショーは車も、

バイクもベンダーブースも過去最高のエントリー数となり会場はパンパンな感じです。
motorcycles and vendor booth entries reached a record high that the show space is mind blowing.

カスヒルってなんだ？？

先週末は10回目のカスヒルこと「カスタムヒル」でした。
Last weekend was the 10th Custom Hill meeting.

当日の天気は富士山を一望できる快晴！
The weather on this day was excellent with an unfiltered shot of Mt. Fuji.

早朝、横浜を出発したスタッフも合流し会場へGO！
We met up with other MOONEYES Staff that left Yokohama in the early morning and together to the event area it was GO!

グリーンが綺麗な会場は最高です。
A meeting place with clean and beautiful green is so perfect.

ほぼ一日中、富士山を見る事ができました。
There was an excellent view of Mt. Fuji almost all day long.

農家のオジサンではありません。Deuce Factoryの笠井さんです。

10月31日(金）、いよいよMOON Illustrated Magazine(MIM) 2号目が全国書店で発売開始となります。今回は総ページ約150、そのうちおよそ2/3が読み物、1/3はMIM1号発行以降発売された新製品と冬・春物の新製品が掲載されています。

31 October (Friday) is almost here and MOON Illustrated Magazine (MIM) vol.2 will be available across the nation at all bookstores. This issue has a total of 150 pages and 2/3 is featured articles with 1/3 including products that were released after MIM#1 plus new products for Fall and Winter. The main focus around most of the content and featured articles is Southern California centric as well as Wildman's Hentai page among other content.
And it's bilingual English and Japanese!

We are now taking advace order for the catalog's(MIM#2) release through our mail order.

2008 MOONEYES Catalog

2008 MOONEYES Catalogは　Cruisin' Magazineの別冊となり、名前も「MOON Illustrated　・　ムーン　イラストレイテッド」　に変わり4月25日(金）発売開始です。

新人のバイク

MOONEYESの広告部の正式名称は"MOON Space Agency"、略してMSAと呼ばれています。そのMSAに最近加わった新人の渡辺君、彼のバイクはファンキーです。



ここに1970年5月発行のオートバイ・Chopper特集という雑誌があります。


掲載されているChopperを数台紹介しますが、渡辺君のバイクはこの当時のバイクにそっくり、彼のバイクを見たとき思わず「オーッ」と唸ってしまいました。


「とうとうこんな奴も出てきたか」って感じです。まさに「ファンキー」なんて今や死後に近い言葉がぴったりな、イカシたChopperです。日本製バイクでChopperと言えば昔はこのスタイルでした。原宿でSuzukiバンバンとかW-1のChopperが走っていたあの時代、まさか今のようにカッコいい国産Chopperが作れるとは思わなかったな～。

このスタイルからBrat Styleが作り上げた現在の国産Chopperの定番スタイルになるまで40年近く、誰もやれなかった事をやったBratは凄い！



The formal name of MOONEYES Advertisement Dept is "MOON Space Agency" called "MSA" for short. Watanabe who has joined MSA recently has a funky motorcycle.

Here is 1970 May issue of Japanese magazine called "Auto Bike/Chopper special issue". There are several choppers introduced inside and Watanabes bike is exactly same as these years bike, I was impressed and had "Ohee" when I first saw his bike. Makes me feel "finally this kind of guy has appeared". "Funky" is phrase not really used anymore in Japan and this Chopper is neat just like the word "Funky".

Japanese bikes based Choppers were this style back then. The days when Kawasaki W-1 chopper was seen riding Around in Harajuku, Tokyo, I never imagined to see any one making cool Chopper of Japanese bikes like we see now. After 40 years from this style, no one made other style but Brat Style did. The Brat Style has made current standard of the Japanese Domestic Chopper, That's really something.

DicE MagazineのParty

先週末はCulver CityでDicE Magazine #19 Issue Partyでした。



内容はGrand National Roadster ShowにエントリーしたHamans Chop ShopのHDや、僕のブログで紹介してきたYoshi君のTriumph [ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 ]、Japan情報など、盛り沢山の素晴らしい内容です。来週入荷予定です。

会場には19時頃に着きましたが、今CaliforniaはSummer Timeが始まり、この時期のこの時間でもまだ明るかったです。日が長いと夕食を取るチャンスを多々失うこともありますが、日が長いと楽しいですよね。



Culver Cityと言う場所柄、多くのCity Bikersが参加していました。



Garage Company オーナーのYoshiさんもレアパーツ満載のCB750 Cafe Racerで参加していました。



HDが多いのは勿論ですが、



そこはDicE Magazineの懐の深さでしょうか、Japanese Bikeや



Triumphも大変多かったPartyでした。



帰り道、Isky Racing Cam発祥の地の前を通りました。まだ当時のビルがそのまま、サインもそのままです。



Southern Californiaで創業当時からの建物で商売を継続しているのはIsky、DeistそしてMOON位かもしれません。



DicE Magazine hosted #19 Issue Party on last weekend at Culver City. This issue covers HD by Hamans Chop Shop in Kyoto Japan who made entry to Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, Yoshi-kun's Triumph[ 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 ] which was mentioned in my blog, All report from Dice trip to Japan and just full of great contents inside. This issue will arrive on next week to Area-1 Shop in Honmoku JAPAN.

Summer time has already begun in California and it was still blight for this season and time when I arrived around 7pm at the Party. When day light saving time are long sometimes loose chance to eat dinner but at same time its more fun to enjoy long day light hours.

Since it was hosted in Culver City, many City Bikers had joined the party. "Garage Company" owner Mr. Yoshi was there too with his CB750 Cafe Racer loaded with bunch of rare parts. Many Harley Davidson were there but many Japanese motorcycles and Triumphs were there too, Party showed how widely "DicE Magazine" have attracted interest to all kinds.

Drove by the originated Place of Isky Racing Cam on the way back. The building is same building as back than and the Sign is same too. There are only few company existing in same building as founded in Southern California and probably just Isky, Deist and MOON in our business.

世の中そううまくは行かない

営業のマッチャンこと松浦君、得意の1969 Triumph Chopperに乗ってKruise Knightに参加したのは確か先々週の事。ところが昨日、家庭に内緒でTriumphを買った事がばれてしまいました。



上は意気揚々の時/下はバイクを買って怒られている高校生みたいな30オヤジのマッチャンです。うーん、次はどうするマッチャン！



という事でこのTriumphは138万円でFor Saleです。興味のある方はメールをお願いします。マッチャンを助けて下さい。

Map of sale dept is the nick name for our staff "Matsura" who was proudly riding on Triumph Chopper on Kruise Knight two weeks ago but yesterday the secretly purchased Triumph Chopper was leaked to his family.

Before picture is when he was fine and lively, After picture is over 30 and old man Map who is looking like a high school boy scold for buying a motorcycle on his own. Mmm, what are you going to do next, Map? Now, this Triumph is for sale. He is asking for 1,380,000 Yen. If someone has interest, please send us e-mail.

まだ先が見えないModified Roadster

どうですか？画像を見る限り「今年こそBonnevilleを走るんだ」っていう本気が見えてきませんか？ここ2週間でちょっと進んだようです。



今「雨のロスアンジェルス」というDVDを観ながらブログを書いています。邦題は「雨のロスアンジェルス」ですが、原題は「Aloha Bobby and Rose」、主人公のGirlが「Take me to Hawaii」なんですが、雨のLAなんです。雨のLA、雨のLAはカッコイイですね。昔は好きでしたが最近のLAは雨が降りすぎます。先週末はPomonaで59回目になるGrand National Roadster Showは開催されていましたが、ズーッと雨でした。雨季には違いないのですが本当によく降ります。

昔、USA車の多くはドラムブレーキで、カックンブレーキと呼ばれるほどカックンと効き、特に雨の日はカックンって効いてスピン、あっちこっちで車が大破していましたが、最近は車の性能も良くなっているので昔程事故は見なくなりました（ブレーキが良く効く？ハンドリングもいい？）。それでも雨だっていうのにスピードが速すぎます！この映画は1974年当時らしいですが、今でも思い出深いのは'69 Camaro RSで走った雨のLAです。主人公のポール・ラマット（American Graffitｙのジョンミルナー役）が'68 CamaroでLAを走るシーンは最高、昔は街に出ればこうだった、車と街の電飾がマッチしていたんですね。30代後半の人達が横浜山下公園のクルーズを忘れられないのと一緒ですね。そのポール・ラマット、先週末のショーでサイン会をやっていました。おっと、Modified Roadsterの話がそれてしまいましたが、時間との戦いには間違いありませんね。Tim次第かもね。

話は飛びますが、ショーには沢山の日本人がエントリーしていました。イクラさんはコルベット、Wheels Unlimitedの桜木さんはChevy 3100、バイクでは名古屋のKen's Factory、何か賞を受賞したようでした。また京都のHamans Chop Shopも賞を受賞したようでした。「受賞したようでした」と確かでないのはブースの撤収で忙しかったので「ようです」なんです。Cole FosterのMOON RocketはMild Custom部門で一等賞だったようです！

How about this, doesn't picture show seriousness on "Must make it to Bonneville this year". The work progressed in last 2 weeks.

Now writing Blog as watching DVD with Japanese title "Rain in Los Angels" the English title is "Aloha Bobby and Rose" the heroine of a movie wish to "take me to Hawaii" but its raining in LA. LA looks cool in rain, used to like it but now its raining too much. The 59th Grand National Roadster Show was hosted on last week end at Pomona and it was raining on all hosting days. Even though its rain season, its too much rain for California.

Still think driving speed is too fast, and even on raining day too. This movie was filmed in 1974. I remember well about driving my 1969 Camaro RS in rain. The scene when hero Paul LaMat ( Actor played roll of John Milner in American Graffiti ) drove 1968 Camaro in LA was great. It was like that back than, car was matching with city light and decoration. Its like how people in the late thirties cant forget about cruise night in Yamashita Park in Yokohama, Japan. That Paul LaMat was signing autograph in last week ends show. Oh topic has warped from the Modified Roadster but sure it will be the race against time. It's up to Tim.

The topic changes again to the show and there were many entries from Japan. Mr. Ikura with Corvette, Mr. Sakuragi of "Wheels Unlimited" with Chevy 3100. For Motorcycle, Ken's Factory from Nagoya seem to received award, "Hamans Chop Shop" from Kyoto also seem to received award too. The reason for unsure "seems" was because I was too busy packing up to withdraw shop and missed the scene. The MOON Rocket build by Cole Foster seem to receive 1st prize award in Mild Custom Class!

結構気になるスタイルのハーレー

最近気にして観ていると、このスタイルを街で見る事が多いのですが、どういうジャンルになるのかまったく分かりません。



ボクが感じるのは大変Low Riderに近いと思います。Low Riderって言えばまず綺麗ですね、HDもその通り綺麗、ピカピカです。HDを同じ大きさで乗るならこのスタイルがいいですね。フロントタイヤが大きいいのがミソです。こんなHDって日本にありませんね。

Recently I was watching this style being around on street many times, but I am not sure what kind of style this is called and recognized as.
I think its very close to Low Rider. First impression of Low Rider is clean, these HDs are also clean and shinny. I think this style is good if I was to ride this size HD. The 21"front wheel is point.

友人のアイアンスポーツ 1974 HD Sportstar XLCH1000が遂に完成しました。



といってもノーマルである訳がありません。Kフレームにリジットフレームを追加したChopperです。PaintはCandy Green＆Pearl White、クローム＆ポリッシュで光る所は光らせた綺麗な仕上がりです。



MOON Original Shovel用 Point Cover、Air Cleaner、MOONEYES/Bull OriginalのLeather Seat、そしてシートの下にはIM Fatoryの為に生産しているMOONEYES Chopper Tank、IM Factory 仕様が装着されています。　注：IM Factorｙとは横浜反町にあるHD屋さんでMOONEYESのPan & Shovel 2台を製作し、メンテナンスもお願いしているShopです。

My friend's Iron Sports 1974 HD Sportstar XLCH1000 has finally completed. But its not original, it's a chopper with K frame and added rigged frame. Paint is candy green and pearl white, chrome & polish has been done for beautiful finish.

MOON Original Point Cover for HD Shovel, Air Cleaner, MOONEYES/Bull Original Leather Seat, under the seat is the MOONEYES Chopper Tank made for IM Factory special version. Notice: IM Factory is HD shop located in Yokohama, where MOONEYES Pan & Shovel HD were build and maintenance by. Narrowed front folk, small front brake, it is beautiful and sleek.

This weekend is this year's last Area-1 Kruise Knight, I thought about joining cruise night with him on 2 bikes but I guess we will be drinking beer in MOON Cafe instead. From owner's request this bike will be displayed at MOONEYES Area-1 during cold season.

By the way the 2007 YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show DVD which will be released on end of January is produced by Garage Production who received great response from the audience of last year's MOONEYES USA Xmas Party DVD. Please look forward to it.

Xmas Showの翌日

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party Showの翌日はLong BeachでSwap Meetがあり、Ventura CountyのSeaside Parkでは"Chopper Fest"というバイクのイベントがありました。

エントリーの大部分は勿論ハーレーですが、


トライアンフも結構来ていましたし、


Honda CB750や


日本車ベースのChopperも数台確認できました。


会場では九州 ジンギーズのMr. Asakawaにお会いしました。

Next day of MOONEYES USA Xmas Party Show, there was a Long Beach Swap Meet and also motorcycle event called Chopper Fest at Ventura County Seaside Park. The most portion of Entry were Harley Davidson but some Triumphs were there too and some Honda CB750 and other Japanese base choppers were seen. Met Mr. Asakawa of Zingys from Kyushu Japan at show space.

2007年MOONEYES USA Xmas Party

今年のMOONEYES USA Xmas Partyは奇跡でした。まさにミラクル！です。

日本で聞いた当日の天気予報は雨、しかもよりによってストームが来ているという。最悪な話、「南カリフォルニアだぜ、そんな事ある訳無い」なんて否定していましたが、実際木曜日から怪しい雲行きとなり始め、金曜日は降ったりやんだりの何とも嫌なムード。しかも強烈に寒い！ショー会場での準備もまともに出来ない状態でした。

夜は夜で雨が本格的に降りだし、「明日は絶対に雨だ～」って感じ。イベントの前日に雨が降り、明日を思う脱力感。日本ではしょっちゅうですが、ここ南カリフォルニア、晴れて当たり前の土地でその気分を味わうのは何とも憂鬱です。

朝3時に起きて外を見ると道路はWet、「Oh, man!」。会場へ向かう車の中は何となく重たい空気が流れていましたが、Racewayに近づくに従い空は明るくなり、星も見えてきました。「ひょっとすると今日は化けるかも」という期待が膨らみ始め、実際、そうなりました！何と快晴です！ミラクル！風は冷たかったけど、最高の天気になったのです。

Live Music、Pinstripe、Pinup Girls Contest、Choppers & Bobbers、Hot Rods、Customs and Drag Raceが一度に楽しめるイベント、MOONEYES USA Xmas PartyはSouthern CaliforniaのカルチャーがすべてIrwindale Racewayに集まり、まさに南Californiaです。これにSurfin'が加わればまさに1960sのSouthern Californiaがそこにあります。

Blue Sky、Palm Tree、Hot Rods and MOONEYES、南カリフォルニアです。天気が影響して出だしは遅かったですが、素晴らしい一日になりました。横浜のショーで会った人達に会えたのも大変嬉しかったです。詳しくは来週、MOONEYES Mail Magazine 特集ページでお送りします。Thanks Dean MOON！来年もIrwindaleで会いましょう！

日曜日、山は雪になっていました

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party 2007
This year's MOONEYES USA Xmas Party was like a miracle. In fact it was a real miracle.

The weather forecast said rain on show day, plus the storm was coming too. It was the worst story, "It's Southern California, That can't be true." So we denied but the weather was really going down fall from Thursday and Friday was worst with on and off rain, plus on top of that it was really cold. Couldn't even do good set up at show space.

On the previous night it rained on hard, "looks like its going to rain tomorrow", rain on previous day of event looses all our up tension for next day. That happens in Japan often but not in Southern California where weather is expected to be fine and sunny, it makes me depressed.

At 3am in the morning, I looked out side, the road was wet, "Oh, Man!" It was heavy atmosphere on the way to the show, but as getting closer to the raceway the sky was getting clear and even stars appeared. "May be weather will turn around today." So our expectation grew, and really it turned out to be like that. It was clear sky, like a miracle, The wind was cold but the weather was great.

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party is really event of Southern California, with all Southern California Culture, at Southern California Irwindale Raceway. If " Surfin" is added it will be Southern California of 1960's. Blue Sky, Palm Tree, Hot Rods and MOONEYES, its all Southern California.

The weather had effect on slow start but it turned out to be a great day. It's nice to see all people we saw at YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show. Will have more on next week's MOONEYES Mail Magazine special page. Thanks Dean MOON!

MOONEYESのChoppers

以前、Tankのブログで大型二輪免許証取得とありましたが、4名が教習所に通い、3名が大型を取得し、1名が奮闘中です。その3名もそれぞれバイクを購入し、乗り廻すようになって来ました。



広告のManager、MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editorであり、カタログ等を作っているTankこと大津君は、Brat Styleに依頼していたSR Chopperが先週末完成しました。



営業のManagerのMapこと松浦君も、Bullのヨネ君を手こずらせながらも1969年のTriumph Chopperを手に入れました。70s丸出しのChopperです。彼はこのバイクで相模大野から、いつでも渋滞している16号・保土ヶ谷バイパスで通勤するつもりのようです。今までは車通勤でしたから何とか遅刻しても たどり着けましたが、このChopperでは途中で故障の為「欠勤」なんて事もありそうです。今後の彼の社会人人生を左右する一台になるかもしれません。



仕入れ関係のManagerのOチャン角谷君は、Deluxieから1947年Triumphを購入。先日はお台場で開催されたトラックマスターズに参加したのですが、帰り道飛ばしすぎてバイクの調子が悪くなったようです。

さて、最後にいまだ免許取得に奮闘中の松井君は事故で潰れたHot Rodを直すか、Harleyを購入するか、どっちか一つにしないと厳しい現実になるかもしれません。

と言う事で、この3台、週末のショーに展示します。

最後にリアルバイカーのMasaとHiro佐藤は毎日バイクで通っています。これからは寒いので、暖かくなったら本牧山頂公園へツーリングです。



さて、進行中のPorjectはMax君に依頼していたScoopの延長も完成し、Currie製Ford 9インチデフに4.10を組み、Tractionbarも装着しました。



Previously "Tank" has mentioned in his blog that He was getting his driver license for unlimited size motorcycle but 4 of employee went to the Driving School and three achieved license and one is still taking class. That Three bought bike and started to ride around.

MOON Space Agency(Advertisement) manager, MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editor and Catalog Producer, Ohtsu who is called "TANK" has received his custom buit Yamaha SR 400 Chopper from Brat Style last week. As might have expected Brat Style made it with beautiful finish.

The Sales Manager "MAP" Matsuura managed to have 1969 650cc Triumph Chopper with much favor from Yone from Bull Original. It's very 70s Choppers. He thinks he can use as commuter from Sagamiono through major traffic jam of route 16 and Hodogaya Bypass. He has been commuting with car so he was able to reach even though he was late but with this Chopper he may not be able to reach to office as it may break down in some where. This may be the one bike that makes change to his career.

The purchasing Manager "O-chan", Sumiya has bout 1947 Triumph from Deluxie Customs. He went to Truck Masters last weekend at Odaiba in Tokyo by highway, too much speeding on way back and its running rough now.

Then lastly Matsui who used to be called "Kid Rocker" is still going to class and has to decide if he will fix his Hot Rod or buy Harley, must to choose one to afford.

So these three bikes will be on display at Show on this weekend.

And REAL biker MASA and HIRO SATO are commuting with motorcycle everyday.

Now its getting cold so when it gets warm we will go for ridding to Honmoku Sanchou Park, it's few miles away from us.

So the project in progress has completed scoop extension by Max-kun and Currie Ford 9 inch rear end with 4.10, traction bars and sub frame connector are added too.

YOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Show 2007

遂にYOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Show 2007(HCS)まで1ヶ月、カリフォルニア Long Beachの倉庫には日本に送るべくクルマやバイクが集まりつつあります。

一つ残念なのは、Trevelenが製作したIndian Crazy Horseが来れない可能性が高くなってきました。最後まで交渉を続けていますが、ここ2-3日で解決出来ないとShipmentをミスしてしまいます。諦めず交渉を続けるつもりです。

YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007 Information.
Finally its one month until YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007(HCS). In ware house in Long Beach, California, the bikes and cars are gathering to be shipped to Japan for the show. One thing that I am disappointed with is that "Crazy Horse" Indian build by Trevelen may not make it to the show. We will negotiate until last day but if we don't have it solved with in these 2-3days it will miss the shipment. We are not giving up yet and will continue to negotiate.

On the Cruisin' Magazine Issue #51 released on Oct 26th, the special issue introduce people coming to the show and guest invited to the HCS. [US Trip Report]

Super Weekend 長野

長野市の元オリンピック施設 M-Waveで開催された、Flat Head主催のSuper Weekendに行ってきました。（敬称略）


30年位前は電車でも4時間、車だったら6-7時間位は掛かったでしょうか。昔、クラウンでスキーに行った時、スピンして雪の壁にぶつかったのを覚えています。今は東京駅から長野まで新幹線で2時間、車だと4時間位。近くなりました。

さて何十年振りかの長野です。多分30年以上かな？その長野でインドア カーショーが開催されたのは昨年、今年で2回目です。

"Super Weekend 2007"
I went to City of Nagano last weekend where car show called "Super Weekend 2007" was held by Flat Head at X-Winter Olympic facility called "M-Wave". I've never been in Nagano since when I was in University which is about 30 some years ago. I used to go there for skiing almost every winter, because ski was very popular back then like snowboard now. It took about 4 hours by train and 6 to 7 hours by car to get Nagano back then. Narrow one lane road always up to Nagano, it's almost impossible to pass the car ahead of you. It was long, long and slow move traffic. I still remember that I took my 1970 Toyota Crown and crash into snow wall. Now, it only takes 2 hours by bullet train and about 4 hours on highway by car.

It was 2nd Annual Show this year and it is very interesting to having car show in this area. Because there is no big car show in Nagano before this show was held in 2006. Show Cars, Motorcycles, Bands, Raffles, a lots vendor booths and awards, it was great show. Thanks to Flat Head! Hope, we can see you again at Nagano in 2008!

FinlandのHot Rods & Kustoms

FinlandはScandinavia諸国のSwedenやNorwayと同様に、Hot Rod、Kustom＆Drag Race、とAmerican Car Cultureが盛んな国です。最近はDriftも大人気だそうです。そんなですからそれぞれの国にMOONEYES Dealerがあるのは勿論です。MOONEYES Dealer Finlandは新しい場所に移転し、その他2軒のShopと一つの工場をシェアしていました。



一つは"Primer Magazine"というFinlandのHot Rod＆Kustom Magazineです。今まではFinland語でしか発行していませんでしたが、最近英語版も発行し、にわかに注目を浴びている雑誌でもあります。

もう一軒はHot Rod＆Kustomを製作するShopで、そのオーナーは2004年 我々がSwedenのRat Fink Reunionに行った際、MOONEYES USA Awardを受賞した方でした。また、彼の奥様が車のインテリアを作る部屋もあり、MOONEYES FinlandでPartsを購入し、このShopで内外装を製作し、完成したらPrimer Magazineが取材してくれる、という何とも一石二鳥・三鳥の場所でした。日本にあってもいいかも知れませんね。

今回、GPS付きのVolvoをレンタカーしましたが、この日はFinlandのPinstriperの第一人者で、2004年のYOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Showに来日した事もあるPekkaが、友人のUnu Vinhavaの1949年 Cadで一日中ヘルシンキ市内のShopやCar ClubのClub House等に連れて行ってくれました。

次に向かったのはRoad Pilots Car ClubのClub House。非常時にはシェルターになる半地下のガレージには、数台のHot RodとともにDickiesを履いたメンバーが我々を待っていてくれました。しばらくDickiesを履いた人を見なかったので、この国に来て久しぶりに見るDickies。Finlandで購入するのは高いそうです。

Road Pilotsのガレージ入り口にあった34 FordはWW II 時代　救急車として使われていたという歴史ある車です。そう言えばウチにも赤坂警察が戦前使っていた34 Ford フェートンがありましたが、その後どうしているでしょうか。このガレージ奥にはClub RoomにメンバーがくつろげるBar等もあり、寒い長い冬の間にここに集まり、車を作るそうです。

Road Pilotsを後にし、オーナーのKARI SAARBLAがすべて自分で作ったというKustomed 1949年Buick RoadmasterとCadの2台で、PekkaもそしてCadのオーナー、BuickのオーナーもメンバーのTomahawk Car ClubのClub Houseへと向かったのです。

ボルボ、ベンツ、BMW等 新し目の車ばかり走る道で、2台のKustom USA車は信号待ちで歩行者に記念写真を撮られたり、並走する車からは「ZZ Topと同じ車？」とか質問されたり大変な人気でした。


TomahawkのClub Houseには、我々が行く事を事前に知ったHot Rodder達が月曜日だというのにわざわざ集まってくれて、我々を歓迎してくれました。今更のようにMOONをやらせてくれたDean MOONに感謝です。

Tomahawkのガレージは広大、しかも古い古い建物で、中には商売が出来るくらいの工作機械等が揃い、ペイントブースまであったのです。勿論、Barもあり、我々にとって適度に冷えたビールを頂きました。


彼らのClub Houseの隣にはHarleyのClub KONE MCのClub Houseがあり、こちらも商売ではないのに十分な機械があり、冬の間に色々Projectを進めるとの事でした。暖かい時期は皆Bikeに乗っているので、中がカラになってしまうそうです。勿論このClub Houseにもお決まりのBarがあります。

こんな環境で車やバイクが楽しめたらいいな～、って感じでヘルシンキの街を案内してもらいました。ほとんどの人が英語をしゃべるので比較的不自由なく過ごせ、Finlandは是非また尋ねたい国の一つです。今回、我々のHelsinki Tourに協力してくれたMr. & Mrs. Mikael、そしてPekka、Tomahawk Car Clubの方々に感謝すると共に、Road Pilots、各Shopの皆さん、Fin Toyのメンバーにもお礼を申し上げます。ありがとう！

Hot Rods & Kustoms in Finland
Finland is part of Scandinavian countries and like Sweden and Norway American car culture such as Hot Rod, Kustom & Drag Race are seen active in Finland too. Now days "D-1 Drifting" is getting popular too. Since the car culture is there, it is only natural to have MOONEYES Dealer in each country. MOONEYES Dealer in Finland has moved to new location, sharing factory with 2 shops.

One is Primer Magazine" publisher of Finland Hot Rod & Kustom Magazine. Up till now it was in Finnish only but now they have English version too and getting popular.

The Second shop is a Hot Rod & Kustom builder shop and the owner was the winner of our MOONEYES USA prize when we went to the Rat Fink Reunion at Sweden in 2004. There was a room for his wife where she makes interior (upholstery), so buy parts at MOONEYES Finland, Have interior and exterior done in this shop, then the Primer magazine can report your car when you are done. So this place is like one stop for two or three good things. Wouldn't it be nice to have place like this in Japan too.

This time we have rented Volvo with GPS but that day Pekka, Finland's first Pinstriper who came to Japan for the YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2004 and his friend Unu Vinhava on his 1949 Cadillac had taken us around the shop and club house of Car Clubs in Helsinki.

Next we headed to the "Road Pilots" Car Club's club house, in the half story below garage where it was made for emergency shelter were some Hot Rod and members with Dickies were waiting for us. I didn't see Dickies at all in Finland until I came to meet them, Dickies are expensive in Finland.

The 34 Ford in entrance of Garage has a historical back ground as it was used as an ambulance in WW II which reminds me of 34 Ford Phaeton we had before which was used in AKASAKA Police (in Tokyo) before WW II in Japan, wonder how is that car doing now. There was a lounge like bar at far inside their garage and members gather in in Winter at this garage to build their cars in long and ｃold Winter.

After "Road Pilots" we headed to the Tomahawk Car Club's club house called "Tomahawk Town" on Kustomed 1949 Buick Roadmaster built all by owner Kari Saarbla and Unu Vinhava's 1949 Cadillac where Pekka, Unu the Cadillac Owner and Kari the Buick owner are all in Tomahawk Car Club. On the road with new Volvo, Mercedes and BMW are all there is to be seen, two of Kustom USA cars were getting so much attention like taken picture by tourist and asked by the cars driving beside "Is this same car as the ZZ Top?".

At Club house on Tomahawk Car Club, some Hot Rodders has gathered to welcome us even though it was on weekday Monday. I thank Dean Moon now again for letting me inherit MOON. Tomahawk garage was very big and building was very very old, inside was plenty of machines to work on like pro shop and even had a paint booth. Of course the bar was there too and had a cold beer.

In next door to their club house was club house of Harley Davidson Club called "KONE MC". There were enough shop Machine like pro shop and they spend their winter season to do their projects. When its in warm season the club house gets empty as everyone is busy riding it. And this club house has bar too.

The tour in Helsinki was like how we imagine if we can enjoy cars and bikes. All most every one had no problem with speaking English and Finland is definitely another country we would like to visit again. I like to give my best regards and big thank you to everyone who helped us on touring Helsinki Mr. & Mrs. Mikael and Pekka, Tomahawk Car Club members and Road Pilots Car Club members, Everyone at All Shops visited and Fin Toy Car Club members ! Thank you!

第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007

12月2日(日)に開催される第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007(HCS)の内容がおおよそ決まりました。


USAからKennedy Brothers製作の32年 Devile Deuce。


Classic Trucks Magazine編集長であり、HCSの開催にいつも多大な協力をしてくれているRob Fortieの愛車で、Cole Foster制作のChopped 53 Chevy。



南カリフォルニアのバイクシーンに新たなシーンを作り、East LAにShopを構えるSuperco CustomsのTrevelen。

関西弁が冴えまくり、USAのTV等で大変人気のあるChica Custom CyclesのChica。


Cole Fosterも彼の最新作「MOON Rocket」を持ち込み、


2年前に来日したKutty。

3回目の来日となるJeff Decker、そしてChoppertown DVDの中で主人公的役柄のRico、Danny Takahashi君も遊びに来るそうですから、Sinnersの中心的メンバーがヨコハマに集合って感じになるようです。



アーテイストではLine Dr.、Keith Weesner、Pizz、Harpoon、Dan Colins（？）、アルミ職人のRon Covel、AustraliaからTikiのカービングをするTiki Beat-Marcosも参加します。Trophy QueenやDicE Magazineも来ますし、ヨーロッパからはWild Motorcyclesも来日予定です。今の段階では以上ですが、日が経つにつれ話がどんどん膨れていくので、10月くらいまではハッキリした内容が確定できないのが毎年の事なのです。世界からナゼか注目される日本のショー、今年もきっと楽しくなるでしょう。HCS情報はMOONEYES WebsiteでUpされますのでマメにチェックして下さい。

The 16th Annual Yokohama HOTROD CUSTOM SHOW 2007(HCS) will be hosted on Sunday December 2nd and almost all contents has been fixed.

From USA, 1932 "Devil Deuce" build by Kennedy Brothers, "Chopped 53 Chevy" chopped by Cole Foster, owned by Rob Fortier the "Classic Trucks Magazine" chief editor and always been great help to host the HCS.

The Trevelen from Superco Customs. who has shop in East L.A., and Making new Scene in the Southern California Motorcycle scene. Chica from Chica Custom Cycles with dry West Japan accent and popular from the TV program in USA.

Cole Foster will bring his brand new bike called "MOON Rocket", Kutty who was here 2 years ago, Third time for Jeff Decker, first time for Rico who is one of main feature from the Choppertown DVD, Danny Takahashi will be here too, so all core members of "Sinners" will meet up in Yokohama.

Artists are Line Dr., Keith Weesner, Pizz, Harpoon, Dan Colins(?), Aluminum craft man Ron Covel, Tiki Beat - Marcos for Tiki Carving will be here from Australia. Trophy Queen and DicE Magazine will be here too. Wild Motorcycles from Europe will be here too.

That's all for now, but usually gets increased as the day goes by, so we can not say for sure until October. For some reason this show in Japan is getting a lot of attention from all over the world. El Mirageのバイク達

El Mirageへ行ってみたらこんなカッコイイIndianが来ていました。



まだ完成したばかりで、今回コースを走るのは初めてという事です。何でもStreetでは2速で75mphまでしか出せなかったとの事でした。コンパクトでカッコイイですね！

そのほかに沢山バイクが参加していましたのでここに紹介します。



Lake Styleはコンパクトが基本のようです。

El Mirageの後、Pomona Swap Meetにも寄ってみました。そうしたらイクラさんと会いました。



I went to El Mirage and this cool Indians were there. It was just finished and said this run was the first trial run. According to him he could do only up to 75mph in second gear on street. Its compact and cool.

There were many motorcycle there so I will introduce some. Seems Lake Style is basically compact style.

After El Mirage, I went to Pomona Swap Meet and met Mr. Ikura there.

エンブレム発見

前回のブログで紹介したYamaha 90 HT-1のエンブレムがもう手に入ったのです。速攻、なんという速さでしょうか？しかしYahoo!オークションでもeBayでもありません。これはWildmanの作品なのです。



HT-1購入後、インターネットで色々と探しているうちに、結構長期戦になりそうな感じがしてきました。しかしエンブレムの無いタンクも何か間が抜けている感じなので、Wildmanに「エンブレム描いてくれる？」って聞いたところ、Studioにあったプラ板をカットし、スプレーでベースの黒を塗り、ゴールドで文字を入れてすぐ作ってくれました。日本車旧バイクファンでもあるWildmanの凄いところは、年代さえ分かれば現物や写真が無くてもデザイン・カラーが分かってしまう事です。ですから安心して任せられるのです。

これでゆっくり時間を掛けてエンブレムを探す事ができます。Wildmanの作品を見ていると「このままでもいいか！」って感じになってしまうくらい上出来なんです。無くなってしまったエンブレムの再製とか、高級車で消えてしまったピンストライプの補修とかWildmanにお任せ下さい。さすがWildman石井、ありがとう！

The emblems for the Yamaha 90 HT-1 which I mentioned on the last Blog has already been found. That was quick, fast isn't it? It was not even through Yahoo! Auction or eBay. It was made by "Wildman".

After purchasing HT-1, I was doing research on web but seems like looking and finding one seem to be a real long term task. But Fuel Tank looks unfinished with no emblem so I asked Wildman "Can you draw me this emblem?". Wildman cut piece from plastic board left over in his studio, sprays base black with can sprays and then he did Gold Lettering to finish. As classic Japanese bike fan, Wildman has amazing talent, he knows design and color of emblems by just informing the year of make and Wildman doesn't even need a pictures or real parts to look at. So I can trust him to do this job.

Now I can take time to find a real emblem. When I look at the piece Wildman made, its great. I felt like saying "May be its good enough to leave it like that". For remaking the lost emblems and repairing faded Pinstripe on old luxury cars, please ask for Wildman. Thank you Wildman! You are the man!!

トレール車購入！YAMAHA 90 HT-1

ミニトレGT50、HT90、DT-1、DT250と乗り継いで来たので、元々トレール車も好きなんです。特に70年代のヤマハやカワサキの2ストローク、そしてスクランブラーと呼ぶべきなのかHondaの4ストロークSLシリーズなど、70年代の日本のトレール車はカッコいいです。ここ数年、密かにミニトレを探していました。ミニトレではありませんが、なんと1970年型 ヤマハ90 HT-1を見つけてしまったのです。


しかもワンオーナー、37年前のバイクなのに走行距離はなんとたったの1万キロ。キック1発でエンジンは掛かるし、ほぼオリジナル。しかも取り扱い説明書まで付いています。所々疲れていますが、でも1970年型だから仕方ありません。



HT-1って名前がカッコイイ！この後はHT90と呼ばれるようになりますが、やはり「なんとか かんとか"ワン"」がカッコイイ。当時のヤマハトレール車兄弟の一台です。90ｃｃのHT-1に始まり、AT-1(125)、CT-1(175)、DT-1(250)＆RT-1(360)、それにミニトレの50＆60ｃｃが加わるフルラインアップ。多分HT90だったら買わなかったと思います。"HT-1" Sounds Good！これです。 このHT-1、タイヤも37年前のですから、ごらんの通りヒビだらけ。これだけは取り替えないとちょっと怖いですね。あと、タンクのエンブレムがありません。これからゆっくり探す事にします。



そういえば昔買った雑誌にHT-1が出ていた事を思い出し、書庫をあさってみたら出てきました。



昭和45年発売の、その名も「オートバイ CHOPPER特集」という、なんと今の時代にピッタリの雑誌がありました。その中にHT-1のインプレッションが掲載されていたのです。何か、70年代の日本製バイクってUSAの香りがしませんか？それは今の話で、当時はススキが生い茂る仮設コースを走り廻っていました。嬉しい1台を遂に手に入れました。ガレージの中はこんなになっています。



I have owned Yamaha Mini Trail GT50, HT90, DT-1, DT250, and originally like the Trail bikes. Specially the 70's Yamaha, Kawasaki 2 stroke, and a scrambler should I call Hondas 4 stroke SL series, 70's Japanese Trail bikes are cool. In these years I was secretly looking for Mini TrailsGT or JT but instead of Mini Trail, found 1970 Yamaha 90 HT-1. And it was one owner, 37 years old bike but only 10,000km (6,250miles) was its mileage it starts on one kick, almost all original and has instruction book too. Some part looks worn out but that's made in 1970, can't be helped.

Name "HT-1" is good, after this model it is changed to HT90, any way "something - One" is the cool one among the Yamaha Trail brothers. It had started with 90cc HT-1, 125cc AT-1, 175cc CT-1, 250cc DT-1, 360cc RT-1, and mini trail 50 & 60cc are added to make full line up. CT-1 was export only. I wouldn't buy it, if it was HT90. "HT-1" Sounds Good! That's it. This HT-1 has 37 years old tires and its all cracked on side, this is too much so they need to be changed. Plus Tank has no emblem. I will take my time to look for them.

I remember there was article on HT-1 on some old magazine I bought long time ago and looked for in archive and found it. The magazine was sold on 1970 with name "Motorcycle Chopper Special" which was just the name for the time. There was an impression article on HT-1. Doesn't 70's Japanese motorcycle have smell from USA, that’s the story now and back then I was riding around on the temporary off road course in the tall Japanese pampas grass field. I have finally got one I like in my hand. This is how it looks inside the Garage.

父の日の南カリフォルニアはイベントが沢山

Bakersfield Thunder Run

先週末の南カリフォルニアではPomonaで"L.A. Roadsters"が開催されていました。父の日に開催されるので"Father's Day"と呼ばれ、今年で50回目になる歴史あるイベントです。また同じ週末、Bakersfieldでは"Thunder Run"というバイクのイベントも開催されていました。実はこのイベントの事はまったく知りませんでしたが、Chicaさんが教えてくれたので、土曜日はPomonaで日曜日はBakersfieldへ行ってみる事にしました。


When you go up the mountain road, there are flat places to rest in the middle of the way. 30 years ago when going to San Francisco in my friends 69 Camaro all sudden the smoke filled up the car and smell of something burning and took off to exit from this one.
山をどんどん上がって行くと中腹で一息つけるように平坦になります。30年前、友人の69 Camaroでサンフランシスコに向かう際、突然車内に煙が充満して焦げ臭くなり、この出口で降りた事があります。


After going straight down the hill the air in flat land is hot you can feel it in your throat. Also 30 years ago, I have passed by my friend's Pontiac Bonneville and re-caped tires had its top peeled off by the heat.
一気に山を駆け下りると盆地となり、夏は息を吸うと喉が熱くなる感じのところです。やはり30年前、友人のBonnevilleでここを通過、履いていた再生タイヤが熱の為はがれてしまいました。

Bakersfieldまでは片道約150マイル（240キロ）あります。朝9時のゲートオープンに間に会うように出発しましたが、早朝は道も空いていて1時間半で到着できました。Pomonaで開催されている"Father's Day"は朝6時頃から人がうろうろしているのに、ここは9時にゲートがオープンしてもまだ出展者はオープンしていない所が多く、10時頃になってやっと皆準備が終わったという感じでした。"Father's Day"は年齢層が高いから朝が早いのでしょうか？

On the way back, the straight road goes right up the mountain. Its sharp hill and need enough horse power to climb up.
帰り道、真っ直ぐに続く道から一気に山を駆け上がります。結構一気に上がりますから馬力がないと大変です。

上り坂でトラックは喘ぐ様に登ってゆきます。頂上付近にはオーバーヒート等した車用にお休み所があります。

"There are full of events on the fathers day in Southern California."
The "L.A. Roadsters" show was hosted on last weekend in Pomona, Southern California. The event is called "The Father's Day" since it is hosted on Father's Day and its historical event as this year was their 50th year. Also on the same weekend in Bakersfield, Motorcycle event called "Thunder Run" was hosted. I didn't know about this event at all but The Chica Custom Cycles Chica-san had informed me that. So I went on Pomona on Saturday and Bakersfield on Sunday.

Bakersfield is about 150 mile one way from Santa Fe Springs. Left to reach before the gate open on 9 am but the road was empty and made it in 1,5 hour. "The Father's day" was hosted in Pomona and people were wondering about from 6 am in the morning but here in Bakersfield, some booth were not open even though the gate opened on 9am and the shops were completely opened after 10 o'clock. Father's day has more elderly people so may be that's why. I couldn't take a good look at motorcycles as I had to return to Pomona for packing, but from the many choppers on display I have again chosen the ones that I like. I will write about "L.A. Roadsters" on next issue.

2台目のハーレー

日曜日に開催されたMotorcycle "Show & Swap Meet"、晴天にも恵まれ、大変な盛り上がりとなりました。

そしてこのイベントは一年間で唯一、僕がバイクで長距離を走るイベントでもあります。



当初予定していた東京お台場での開催が、ギリギリになって会場側の都合で借りれなくなり、急遽 場所を川崎東扇島に変更。こちらも突然の変更に対応して下さった方々に感謝でした。昨年は雨だったのでバイクより車での来場が多かったのですが、今回はバイクでの来場が大変多く、1,000台は楽に超えていたと思います。会場周辺で沢山の人にご挨拶しましたが、皆Nice Guy、感じが良くナイスな人達が大変多く、バイカーって「感じいいな～」って思っちゃいました。ショーの模様は週末のMMM（ムーンアイズ メールマガジン）に大きく掲載しますので楽しみにしていてください。

以前に話しましたが「今度買うHDはセル付き」と思っていたのですが・・・。バイク屋さんから「いいのがありますよ」って紹介され、結局買ったのはショベルのリジット。何をやっているのでしょうか？


セルは付けれるそうですが、オープンプライマリーでMOON Chopper Tankを付けると云々となり、結局またセル無しとなってしまったのでした。


しかしMOONEYESには若いHD乗りのMasaがいます。彼は自分のHDとPan & Shovelの2台のエンジンを掛けるMOONEYES Official Starterとして活躍してくれているので、彼がいる時は始動に心配はありません。一つ心配なのはエンジンの掛かりが悪いとMan Power Starterが疲れて、しばらく充電が必要になる事です。

さて今回のShovel、フロント 21"、リア 16"、74 Springerを使い、なるべくCompactに作りました。Tankは3.5ガロン Genuine HD Fuel Tank、ハンドルは3"ライザー プラス 多少押さえが効きそうなハンドルバー、それに3" Peep Mirrorのステーを加工して取り付けています。Pegもいい感じのが見つかりました。

とかく目に付く配線関係はステンレスのワイヤーカバーにまとめたので見た目もすっきりし、ワイヤーの保護にもなります。

ウィンカーは小ぶりのRod Liteを使用しましたが、残念ながら小さすぎて視認性が悪いのでもう少し大きい物と交換予定です。

シートはBull Original製 MOON Equipped Original タック＆ロール ソロシート。シートの後ろがちょっと上がっているのでお尻が滑らず、ハンドルにしがみ付かなくても余裕で発進・加速ができます。

PaintはHouse of ColorのCandy Paint "Gold"、初めはラメペイントとも思いましたがFuel Tankが大きいので今回はCandyにして正解でした。


沢山のバイクを見ても比較的マフラーパイプに変化が無く、一番目立つパーツでもあるのでこれをメッキ加工し、サイレンサーを入れて使ってみると、Fuel Tankのペイントとクローム類がマッチしなんとカッコイイ！Hot Rodパーツが満載のBanana Goldの完成です。

簡単に乗れるように作っていた筈が仕上がってみると何時の間にかショーバイクに近くなってしまいましたが、車もバイクも綺麗なのが一番、特に齢も取ってきて見た目では若者に劣るのでせめて乗り物くらいは綺麗にしておきたいですね。このバイクを隅々まで色々やってくれたのが横浜のIM Factory。無理難題を笑顔でやってくれる、ナイスなオーナーがやっているお店です。

ショー翌日の月曜日、わざわざMOON Cafeに寄ってくれた名古屋から来てくれたViSEの皆さん、MOON Cafe 定休日ですみませんでした！またのお越しをお待ちしています。


The Motorcycle "Show & Swap Meet", weather was fine and it was a big turn out. It is also the once in a year time which I ride for long distance.

It was supposed to be held at Odaiba, Tokyo but all sudden the renting deal was turned down in short notice, so we had to changed to Higashi Ougijima, Kawasaki in short time which we like to Thank all people supported us. Last years show was rained on so more people came on cars to see the show than bikes. But this year people came to see the on bike and easily over thousand bikes came to see the show. I met many people at the show and they were all nice guy, very nice people to meet. The show will be reported on this weekends MMM (MOONEYES MAIL MAGAZINE) so please enjoy.

I have mentioned before that "My next HD will be with starter motor". But bike shop introduced me there was a good one and bought Rigid Shovel. What am I doing? Starter motor can be put on but with open primary and MOON Chopper Tank, it was no way to go with. But in MOONEYES, young HD rider Masa is here. He is a "MOONEYES Official Starter" working to start his HD, My Pan and Shovel. I have no worries when he is there to start. One thing worried about is when HD don't start up and Man Power Starter gets tired and needs charging for a while.

Now this Shovel , has 21" on Front, 16" on Rear with 74 Springer and made as compact as possible. Tank is 3.5 Gallon Genuine HD Fuel Tank, 3" raiser plus Handle bar which has little down force, also 3" Peep Mirror from automobile with new custom made bracket. Found new Peg that looks good too. The wires that catches eye are all covered in stainless steel wire cover so it looks less clouded and keeps clean and guard them. Turn signals are too small and cannot be seen so I will change these small Rod Lite to bigger ones. MOON Direct Oil Pressure Gauge, Air Cleaner is also for cars with small carb with new bracket, Tail Lamp is '36 Ford Tail Lamp, Ruby Red Fuel Line and Plug Wires are making appeal.

Seat is MOON Equipped Original Tack & Roll Solo Seat by Bull Original. This seat has curved swing up rear end which gives great hold in start and accelerations with out grabbing on to the handle bars. Paint is House of Colors Candy Paint "Gold", Thought of "Metal Flake" paint in first place but as the fuel tank is big, it was right this time with Candy Paint.

Looking at many bikes and exhaust pipe is same compared to the other parts, but at same exhaust pipes stands out most so this convoluted pipe was chromed and silencer was placed in and it turned out good with fuel tank paint and chrome matches cool. "Banana Gold" complete with full of Hot Rod parts. I have made MOON Custom Cycle Shop Stickers. T-shirts are available too.

I thought I will make easy one to ride but turned out to be almost show bike clean car and bikes are best, got old and looks are not offend able against the young ones so at least I want to keep the rides clean, untouchable. The IM Factory of Yokohama has done all kind of work on this HD, shop with nice owner Who Help us solve the hard task with smile.

By the way on Monday next day of the show, The crew of "ViSE" from Central Japan Nagoya has came to eat at MOON Cafe, but sorry the MOON Cafe was closed on every Mondays. Please visit again! Thank you!

"One Low Rod & Custom"

（失礼ながら敬称略させて頂きます）
Golden Week中、One Low Rod & Customの1周年記念BBQにお誘い頂き、お邪魔してきました。


One LowといえばVW、それも速いVWやカッコいいVWを製作するVWのSpecialistで、One Lowステッカーを貼りたい人が沢山いる、憧れのShopです。

レッドとブルーは店舗にて購入可能。ブラックはOne LowのクラブメンバーまたはOne Lowでエンジンを作成 or クルマを購入した人のみが手に入れられる非売品。


オーナーの田崎兄弟は3人。上2人がVW Shopをやっていて、One Low R&Cをやっているのは三男の方です。2005年のHCSで綺麗なDeuce 3 Windowを製作したのがOne Low R&C、昨年2006年はHot Rodテイストが盛り込まれたHDも展示していました。一味ちがったHD,そしてStreet Rodderの製作を希望の方は一度相談してみてはどうでしょうか。

During the Golden Week National Holidays in Japan、I have visited the First Annual Anniversary BBQ of "One Low Rod & Custom".

"One Low" who is famous shop for being a VW specialist, for the Fast and Cool looks and there are people who wish to have their One Low Stickers.

The owner Mr. Tasaki is third one of three brothers, the two elders run VW shop and he runs The One Low R&C. The Deuce Three window which showed in Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2005, and last year had entry with HD with Hot Rod taste. I suggest to drop by their shop to see the little different twist, if you are looking for HD, or thinking of building Street Rodders by some shop.

名古屋のカスタムバイクショー

先週土曜日は名古屋金城埠頭で開催されたMotorcycleイベント「JOINTS」に行ってきました。ゴールデンウィークの渋滞を予想していたのでブース出展はせず、視察って感じでした。久々に暑いくらいの天気になったのでまさにバイク日和、バイカーは皆、気持ち良さそうでした。

僕は10月にかなり激しいケッチンダメージを受けて以来、HDにはまたがっていません。そのケッチンはとんでもなく強烈なケッチンで、今だにそのツケが残っているのです。次は絶対にセル付きを買います！そんな事はどうでもいいのですが、名古屋周辺はKustom Cityと呼ばれるくらい、クルマのカスタムが盛んな地域ですが、バイクも凄い盛り上がりでした。名古屋周辺は本当のKustom Citiesです。

僕はというと、会場オープンと同時に入場し、色々な方と話をしたり、Cruisin'ブースで油を売ったりで、あっという間に一日が終わってしまい、ランチを取るのも忘れていました。


特に国産車ベースのChopperは楽しいですね。クルマも国産車ベースのカスタムが楽しいです。どちらもナゼ楽しいかって言うと、HDやUSA車はUSAに沢山お手本がありますが、日本車・バイクの場合　何処にもお手本はないので「夢」がありますね。国産ベースのカスタムはお手本が無いだけに楽しいのです。


5月27日（日）は川崎 東扇島でMotorcycle "Show & Swap Meet"です。楽しみですね！Cruisin'誌の別冊、HD以外のChopperを集めた「Another World of Chopper」っていう本、もう読みましたか？国産ベースのChopperやTriumphなど、HD以外のバイクでもChopperが沢山あります。ChopperというとHDって感じですが、HD以外でもカッコイイのが沢山ありますから、Chopperに興味のある方是非どうぞ！

"Kustom Bike Show in Nagoya"
Last Saturday went to the Motorcycle event called "JOINTS" hosted at NAGOYA KINJYOU PIER at Nagoya, Central Japan. Golden Week was holiday famous for heavy traffic so we had planned not to bring out the booth and instead took bullet train to have a look around. It was fine hot weather so good day to go out for bikers who were looking all having great time.
I have not been on HD since I had foot damaged with kick pedal hit up my heel while cranking HD in October. That was hit by kick pedal swinging up and still that damage is still left. For next time I will buy one with starter motor, that's not so important anyway the Nagoya area is called the Kustom City for its active car Kustom area and bikes also showed strong Kustom scene. Nagoya area is showing strong as real Kustom Cities.

The famous builder of Paradise Road "Shimodaira" was also at show with his proud HD called "the Gray Suspicion". He is know as builder of "Rod"riguez and Galaxian.

I was in the event space as soon as the gate opened and talked to various people, spent some time in Cruisin' Magazine's booth and the day went so fast that I had forgot to take a lunch.

The chopper made out of Japanese bike are fun. The cars and bikes both fun to Kustom Japanese ones. Why fun is that the US cars and HD has many good example in USA but there are no sample for Japanese Domestics and only "Images!" are there to Fulfill. Kustom of Japanese domestic bases are fun as no example.

May 27th is the "Motorcycle Show & Swap Meet". Looking forward to it. Have you checked out the book called "Another World of Chopper" with choppers other than HD which is released as Cruisin' Magazine's special issue for choppers other than HD. Japanese Domestic base and Triumphs are cool choppers other than HD. There are many cool choppers on this one so please note.

先週末のMOONEYES USA

先週末はMOONEYES USA（以降MUI）倉庫の引越しでした。
今度の新しい倉庫はShopの隣なので大変便利ですが、狭くなったので足場を組んで2Fを作りました。木曜日からDeanに手伝ってもらい少しずつ物を移動し金曜日に一気にと思いましたが、金曜日は生憎の雨。気温も低くこの日は倉庫内の整理で終わってしまいました。

Californiaも寒かったり暑かったりで、天候は全世界的に不順なようです。冷たい雨は夕方に上がり、レインボウが東の空にかかったのですがこの日はこれでおしまい。

土曜日、Again！この日も朝から一気に、と行きたいところでしたが、この日はVenturaで"Back to the Beach"というCar Showが開催され、一度も行った事が無かったので午前中だけ行ってきました。Shopから2時間位、Ventura Hightway 101を北上したVentura County FairｇrandでそのShowは開催されています。101をそのまま北上するとあの有名なPaso Roblesにも行けます。今年のPasoは5月27日、日本ではMotorcycle "Show & Swap Meet"（MSS）の開催日ですね。どっちに行きますか？勿論MSSですね！

このEvent、クルマとKustom KultureのEventですが、バイクも沢山参加していますし、Swap Meetでは多くがバイク部品を売っていました。

Southern Californiaで開催されるこの種類のEventはバイクの参加が当り前になり、必ずバイクを見る事ができます。ゆっくりしたかったのですが倉庫の移動もあり、10時過ぎには会場を出てShopに向かいました。

天気も良かったので出来るだけの荷物を移動。中には無くなっては困る物があるので、自分でしっかり移動しておくのが今回の大きな目的だったのは言うまでもありません。このDragsterのフレームやWoodyも、ちゃんと倉庫に保管できます。


夜、友人に誘われてSeal BeachでDinnerを取り、PCH（Pacific Coast HWY）で帰宅途中、30年近く写真を撮ろう、撮ろうと思いつつ、クルマを止めるのが面倒で何度もその前をパスしたポリネシア風レストランを今回は意を決して遂に撮影したのです。無くなる前に撮れて良かったです。

「次に撮ればいいや」と思い結局撮れなかった物も沢山あり、写真に明日はありませんね。撮ろうと思った時以外にチャンスは2度と来ません。今回は珍しくいい決断でした。Huntington Beach周辺が一番変わってしまいました。

日曜日、この日は日本に戻る日でしたがPomonaもあり、Long BeachではBikeのSwap Meetもあり、空港へ行く前にちょっとLong Beachに寄って行こうと思っていました。が、MUIはブースをPomonaに出店しているし、久しくPomonaに行っていなかったので、覗きに行ってきました。

クルマのエリアしか廻れませんでしたが、昔からみる50年代、60年代のクルマは勿論の事、Muscle Carや70年代、80年代の車も多く見かけました。

クルマってたくさん道で見かけているうちは皆、鼻も掛けませんが、一瞬全く姿を見なくなり、次に目に付くようになった時は結構な値段が付いたりしているケースが多いです。「昔はこれ沢山走っていたのに」とか「なんでこのクルマが。。」とか、無くなって来たり、何かのきっかけで廻りが騒ぎ出し、あっという間に値段が高騰してしまうクルマも沢山あります。Pomonaでは日本車も結構ありました。

日本では高くなって手が出せないクルマはトヨタ 2000GT位でしょうか？USAではChrysler系は皆高いし、カマロもマスタングも何でも高かったです。クルマはある程度高い金額で取引されていれば簡単にジャンクになりませんが、 日本のようにどんどん値段が低くなると扱われ方も値段のように低くなっていくので、その様なクルマの行く末は不安が一杯です。と思ったのが今回のPomonaでした。


Pomonaから空港へ向かうFWY605では日本VIP仕様のLexusが前方を走行していました。FWYに似合うとは思えませんが、日本車の人気が高い以上、日本車をカスタムすれば手本は日本ですからこうなっても不思議はありませんね。USAの日本車好きにとってはCoolなのでしょう。こうしてCalifornia 3泊5日は終わり、来週は上海オートショーです。

Last weekend was MOONEYES USA (MUI) warehouse moving. The new warehouse is beside the shop and very convenient but smaller so made 2nd floor. From Thursday Dean MOON Jr. has helped to move things from old warehouse and wished to make all move within Friday but it had to rain. It was cold too so clean up the new warehouse was all we could do

California is also having strange weather with mix of warm and cold days , Looks like weather is unstable world wide. The cold rain has dried up in late afternoon and rainbow has appeared in east sky so this was end for the day.

On Saturday I hoped to finish on from morning but there was an event called "Back to the Beach" at Ventura and I had to go there in morning as I have never been to it.

Two hours on Ventura highway 101 from shop at Ventura County Fairground was where the show was hosted. 101 north leads to famous Paso Robles. This year's Paso is on May 27th, in Japan we host Motorcycle "Show and Swap Meet (MSS)". Which one would you go? Of course MSS, right!

This event is Hot Rods/Kustoms and Kustom Kulture event but many bikes were there too. Swap Meet had mainly bike parts.

Southern California event with this type of event has always bikes in the show. You can always see the bikes. I wish to look around more but had to return to moving so I left the show on 10am went back to the shop. The weather was good so made things move as much as possible.

There were many thing that cannot be lost so I had to move them by myself which was the major reason of this trip. The Dragster frame and Woody are in warehouse too.

At night, friends asked me for dinner in Seal Beach and cruised on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) made stop to take picture of Polynesian restaurant which I wanted to take picture for more than 30 years but didn't stop the car to take picture. I was so please to be able to take picture before it was gone.

Next time and so many things I couldn't take picture as things will not be there, you never know so there are No tomorrow for taking pictures. No chance other than when you thought of taking pictures. It was rare good decision. Huntington Beach has chanted most in PCH.

Sunday, this day was the returning day to Japan but Pomona was on, Long Beach had Bike Swap Meet and wanted to stop by Long Beach before taking flight but as MUI had shop in Pomona I went to Pomona. I went around the area for cars only but from old time the 50s and 60s, Muscle Car and 70s and 80s car were seen too.

Car is not paid too much attention when they are still running on street but Once they are gone, next time to see is usually after the price has gone up. "This car was all over the street" or "Why this car?" but as soon as they are gone and some how it starts up the move and price get rocket high. There were many Japanese car in Pomona too.

How about the Toyota 2000GT which is too high priced in Japan. In USA, Chryslers are all getting high. Camaro and Mustangs were high too. Car will not be junked if the price is kept high and if price fall like in Japan and the care will be less as equal as the price and worries me how it will end. That what I thought of Pomona this time.

On the way from Pomona to LAX on FWY 605, there was Japanese VIP style Lexus driving in far front. I doubt it match with freeway but as Japanese cars are as getting popular, if some one refer to that style as a text it can not be helped. People who like Japanese car in USA may seem cool. That's how 5 day 3 nights in California has end and next week is Shanghai Auto Show 2007.

今日 3月25日(日)は、Long Beach Veterans Stadiumで開催されている"So-Cal Cycle Show & Swap Meet"です。個人的には日本製バイク、それも日本ではあまり見かけなくなったバイクも見れるので好きなイベントです。

It is CB750 Chopper. Still many left. Back then in 70s', The US Navy in Yokosuka base in Japan used to ride these kind.
CB750のChopperです。まだありますね。昔、70年代横須賀の米軍兵隊さんがこういうのに乗っていました。

Like this CB750, there were many fin parts. Now its important small parts to make 70s style but they are not easy to find.
CB750用に昔はこの様なFinの飾り物が沢山ありました。今、70年代を表現するには大事な小さなアイテムですが、中々ありません。

僕ら時代のバイク達、Honda CB、MonkeyやYamaha DT250等がまだまだ沢山あります。

初めて買ったバイクはHonda Monkey。買えるお金も持っていないのに、ナゼか買う気満々で陸王を見に東京・上野に行ったのですが、結局Honda Monkey Z50Zを買って帰ってきた訳です。25,000円だったかな？それしか持っていないのに何処から陸王を買う気になったのか、若い時の考えは分かりません。買おうと思った陸王は最終型で35万円くらいだったと思います。この時買ったHonda Monkeyは今だに本牧Area-1にあります。

USAでもMonkeyは結構いい値段がします。ここLong Beachでも沢山見かけました。Long Beach "So-Cal Cycle Show & Swap Meet"、数年前まではエントリーも少なく、閑散としたなかにも掘り出し物を見つけるには楽しいイベントでした。

特に日本製バイクに関しては「こんなの残っていたの？！」とか」「月光仮面のバイク？！？」とか、日本ではまず見る事が無いバイクが当たり前の様にありました。プラスHDの数が増えました。

今日、行って感じたのは、Triumphがいい感じで来てますね。それもChopperというよりBobberって感じの仕上げです。Triumph、それもオリジナルリジット（後付のリジットは何か間延びしすぎで個人的には？？）です。若い世代に特にTriumphは好まれているようです。


4月10日頃にCruisin'誌の別冊として発売される、HD以外のChopper BOOK、"Another World of Chopper"にはTriumphも多く掲載されるそうですから楽しみです。これらTriumphはSouthern California独特のStyleを形成しているようです。

以前、Yoshi君から「エンジン掛かった」と連絡を貰っていたので早速チェックに行ってみると、そこには組み立てられ、低くて、細くて、コンパクトでカッコいいTriumphがあるではありませんか！


フロントはスプリンガーをカットし、275-21タイヤだそうですが、Perfectです。7月14日(土) MOONEYES USAのOpen Houseには乗ってきてください。

"So-Cal Cycle Show & Swap Meet"
Today Sunday March 25th is "So-Cal Cycle Show & Swap Meet" at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. Personally like this event as I get to see Japanese bikes which I don't even get to see in Japan.

My generation bikes like Honda CB, Monkey, Yamaha DT250 are still many existing.

The first bike I bought was Honda Monkey. I didn't have enough money but I went to look the Rikuo (Knock down prodction HD) in Ueno, Tokyo but I ended up with buying Honda Monkey Z50Z. I think it was about 25,000yen (about US$240.00). I didn't have more money but I don't know why I was thinking I could buy Rikuo which was last model and priced about 350,000yen (about US$2,900.00). The Honda Monkey I bout back then is still at MOONEYES Area-1 in Honmoku Yokohama.

Honda Monkey is priced high in USA too. There were many out there at Long Beach too. The Long Beach "So-Cal Cycle Show & Swap Meet" had not so many entry in few years ago and it was fun to find good parts in deserted Swap Meet.

Especially finding Japanese bike parts, "still these parts exist?" or "Doesn't this look like Gettukou-Kamen (the old Japanese TV drama with main character rider on bike) ?" There were bikes that will never get to see in Japan sitting like so ordinary thing in this Swap Meet. Plus HD has increased.

Today I thought Triumphs are getting out there. And more of a Bobber than a Chopper. Triumph, with original ridged frames (the non original ridged looks too long for me). Young generation are into Triumphs.

The "Another World of Chopper" is Chopper Book other than HD made as sub magazine from "Crusin' magazine" in Japan and will be out soon around April 10th. I am looking forward to see as many Triumphs are said to be shown on this magazine. These Triumphs are making own style and scene in Southern California.

There was message from Yoshi, friend of mine that the engine was fired up so I went to check it out. There was build up with low narrow compact cool Triumph, front has springer cut to fit 275-21 tire which looks perfect. Please ride in on Saturday July 14th MOONEYES USA Open House. Thank you!

ラズルダズルでのトライアンフ

25日(日)はラズル ダズルでした。
とにかく寒い一日だったのであまり長く会場に居られませんでしたが、こんな時でもNASH君だけが半ズボンでした。

その寒い中、一台とてもカッコイイTriumphが参加していたので紹介します。製作はSo Cal Styleのバイクでいつもいい味を出しているDeluxie Customs。今回のTriumphも素敵ですね。それにMOONEYESの製品を沢山使ってくれているのがまた嬉しいです。


ルビーレッドのプラグワイヤー、ピンクのフュエルライン、Cat Tail Lamp、それにMOON Chopper TankとMOON Discです。MOON Discは車用の物をベースに中心をえぐり、貫いたりして、バイクに使えるようにしたそうです。

MOONEYES USAではそういった特別仕様にも対応していますので、自分のバイクにMOON Discを付けたい！と思った人は是非御相談下さい。どうです？このカッコよさ、しかもこのトラックに積んで走って来るところがまたまたカッコいいです。

Sunday 25th, "Razzle Dazzle" was hosted in Yokohama. It was really cold day so I couldn't stay long at the show place. Even though it was cold day, NASH was wearing short pants.

There was one cool Triumph at the show. It was built by Deluxie Customs who always has cool So Cal Style Motorcycle and this Triumph was cool too. Also it had many MOONEYES products which was really cool for us.

Ruby Red Plug Wire, Pink Fuel Line, Cat Tail Lamp, plus MOON Chopper Tank and MOON Disc. MOON Disc was specially made out of MOON Disc for a car and cut out center to use on Motorcycle. MOONEYES USA has ability to make special order size and style so please ask us if you want to have MOON Disc on your motorcycle or any thing really. How about this Triumph! Isn't it Cool ! and even more cool with this Truck to carry the Triumph. Amazing!

イタリアのカスタムショー

今回はイタリアの友人から送られて来たPadoa Custom Showの模様をお届けします。 写真からも分かりますがイタリアも盛り上がっていますね。世界中がアメリカンカスタムス漬けになっています。どうなってしまったのでしょうか？特にバイクが凄いですね。

	先日はハンガリーのバイク雑誌から日本の状況を記事にしたいと連絡があったり、日本のカスタムシーンを取材する為にドイツのケーブルTVクルーがMOON Cafeに現れたり、昨晩はDicE MagazineのEditorがやって来ました。

世界中でアメリカンバイクシーンが大盛り上がりの昨今です。そして彼らの目がUSAだけでなく、NIPPONにも向けられているのが凄いです。

"Custom Show in Italy" This issue is about "Padoa Custom Show" from picture sent from friend in Italy. You can tell from picture that Italy has heat on too. World is getting on soaked in American Customs Cultures too. McDonald, Coke, Marlboro, Hot Rod, Kustoms, Bikes and Pinstriping and so on. What really happened? Especially Bikes are extreme. Couple days ago Hungarian Bike Magazine asked us about Japanese custom scene as they want to report on their magazine. Germany cable TV crew came to MOON Cafe to take Japanese custom scene on camera. Last night DicE Magazine editor came too. Now days American Bike scene is showing strong in all over world. And their eyes are not on USA only but also on NIPPON too which is really amazing.

先週のウィークエンド

先週は木曜日からNHRA 開幕戦WinternationalがPomona, Caでありました。予選一日目の木曜日は指定席券（何処でも座れる）は関係ないし、入場券も安い。駐車場も空いていてちょっと会社を抜け出して行くには一番の日です。何処に座ろうかとスタンドを上がって行ったらHot VWs マガジンのRKに声を掛けられ、一緒に座りました。こんな広いスタンドで、なんで知り合いが座っているのでしょうか？

	会社からPomonaは30分あれば行けるので、Jim & Diane DunnとJon Dunnに挨拶しにPomonaまで行ったのです。彼らのおかげで今年もMOONロゴをFunny Carに貼ってもらいました。今年は昨年よりちょっと大きく、MOONに黄色が入って目立つようになりました。

	彼らのメインスポンサーLucas OilはBig Companyなので、トレーラー9台分のスペースを使い3台エントリー。その中にはHospitalityのコーナーもあるのです。これはLucasのお得様とかをもてなす為の場所で、食事やドリンクが好きな時に取れる、何ともレース場では恵まれた環境なんです。いいですね。

NHRAトッラク 唯一見られるMOON Discsです

昔（Kenjiの時代）、食パンにハムやピーナッツバターを塗って昼食を取っていたのとは大違いです。僕らはLucasのお得意様でも何でもありませんが、Jim Dunn Racingの関係なのでちゃっかりおこぼれ頂戴です。この日のJim Dunn Racingの予選結果は、まだ一回目でしたが23台中16台の枠に入れませんでした。

	金曜日はSouth Bayで用事があったついでにYoshi-KunのTriumphの進行状態を偵察に行きました。乗るのは大変かもしれないけどこれが出来たらきっとカッコいいですよ。

	Yoshi-kunが「これがあるとバッテリー要らない」という物をくれました。Triumphはバッテリーが丸見えで体裁悪いので丁度良かったです。持ち帰って着けてみますので、結果報告は日本でします（多分バイク関係の人にとっては当たり前の部品も、僕ら車人間からは初耳の事が多いです）。もう一つYoshi-kunが情報をくれて日曜日、RiversideでBritish BikeのSwap Meetがあるとの事。日曜日はNHRAの決勝の日です。どっちに行くか迷いました。

土曜日、今日は朝からMOONEYES USAのMakoto君とNHRAです。会場の駐車場はレースコースに近い程金額が高くなります。Pit Side $25, Prefered $20(これ日本でもやりたいですね。一般よりちょっと近い）、一般 $15、駐車場も金次第、分かりやすいです。迷わずPit Sideに駐車し、入場券は指定席なしの一般入場券、これでも$49でした。

朝食を取っていたら、Rod MotorsのRyo-kunとその一行に出会いました。PomonaでRyo-Kunと会うのは1981年以来でしょう。その時もWinternationalでした。

さて、レーサーは今日予選を通過しないと日曜日の決勝戦に残れませんから、皆必死のはずです。土曜日は予選が2回あるのですが、1回目はHospitalityブースでランチを取ってしまったので見過ごしてしまいました。予選2回目はKenjiもいたので彼を解説者に自由席スタンドを上がって行くと、今度はFred Larsenのパートナー、Don Cumminsの孫のDannyが居るではありませんか。木曜日のRKといいDannyといい、偶然とはいえ不思議です。

予選通過TOPは4.692秒、16位が4.795秒。その差は0.1秒、この間に16台が収まっているのです。しかも今年のナイトロの量は85%とのKenjiの解説でした。Kenjiの時代は97%とかでした。ナイトロの混合比は減っているのにスピードは早くなっています。音は昔の方が良かったですね。Kenji曰く　「最近は駐車中のアラームも鳴らない」。確かに昔はレース場のあっちこっちでセキュリティーアラームが鳴っていました。ナイトロが減って音の質が変わったのは確かです。

John Forceチームは今年からFunny Carに参戦の彼の娘、Ashleyを入れて4台も予選通過です。結局Jim Dunn Racingは4.816秒で残念ながら予選通過できませんでした。

Budweiser King、Kenny Bernsteinも今年からFunny Carで参加していますが、彼ですらDNQ(Did Not Qualify)でした。厳しいですね！

決勝進出が無く、また土曜日夜半から大雨となったので日曜日はRiversideのSwap Meetに行って来ました。Swap Meetは一回目という事もあり、また雨も降っていたので小規模なものでした。ここではカッコいいテールライトが付いたBSAのリアフェンダーを買いました。

Yoshi-Kunはまだ一台目も完成していないのに2台目の部品を買っていました。僕もそうですが1台目は自分の作りたい物を作ってしまって、結局乗りづらい物になってしまい、乗れるもう一台を作りたくなるようです。彼の場合はまだ1台目も出来てないのに、もう乗れないと決めてしまったようです。

途中雨がひどく降ってきたので会場を出るとFWYは事故渋滞、しかしOrange Countyに着いた頃には雨は上がり、太陽が顔を出すくらいになったのでCar Washへ行ったら何とClosed。多分、午前中雨だとOpenしないのかもしれません。でも開けていたら忙しかったに違いありません。

自分で洗車する所も満員御礼、結局会社へ戻り洗車をする事になりました。 なんとNHRAの決勝戦は日曜日、雨が上がった後に開催されていたのです。洗車をしている場合ではなかったのです。それを知ったのは月曜日の朝刊でした。

Last Weekend From last Thursday NHRA Opening Race Winternational started at Pomona, California. Thursday was the first day of qualifying round which all seats are not reserved and free to choose where to seat, tickets are cheaper and parking space is available so its great day to sneak out of office to see the race. As I walked up the stairs on stand thinking where to seat, RK from Hot VWs Magazine called my name and so I seated with him. How come my friend is sitting right by in this huge stand? Pomona is only 30 minutes drive from MOONEYES USA, so I went to Pomona to say Hi to Jim & Diane Dunn and Jon Dunn. With their help, managed to have little MOON LOGO on Funny Car. Its little bit bigger than last year and stands out with yellow color in. Their main sponsor Lucas Oil is a big company and used 9 trailer space for entry of 3 cars and Hospitality space was made in there too. This is where Lucas's customers are treated. At here foods and drinks are available at anytime, Very good environment, isn't it good? It's a big difference compared to the lunch we had, a bread with ham and peanuts butter back in the days when Kenji was racing. We were not customer of Lucas but have connection with Jim Dunn Racing, So we got a little share of this nice environment. The result of Thursdays Jim Dunn Racing qualify first round was unable to make within 16 out of 23 entry. On Friday I had to go to South Bay, so I dropped by Yoshi's place to check on his progress on making of his Triumph. His Triumph may be hard to ride but I think it will look good when it's done. Yoshi gave me the parts for Triumph which will not need battery to run. Battery on Triumph is visible from any angle and looks bad, so it was excellent thing for me. I will take it back and try it home, so will report to you again from Japan.(I think common parts for motorcycle industry people turn out to be something I never knew before as being in automobile industry.) One more thing Yoshi gave me information that Swap Meet for British Bike in Riverside will be on this coming Sunday, NHRA Finals is on Sunday too, I couldn't decide which event to go to. On Saturday, from morning I went to see NHRA with Makoto of MOONEYES USA. The parking lot cost more as it gets closer to the race track. Pit side is $25, Preferred is $20 (I like to do same in Japan. Closer than the general parking) and general parking is $15, parking lot depends on money too, Easy to understand. I picked pit side without doubt, Ticket is non-reserved general ticket which was $49. I saw Ryo-Kun and his friends from Rod Motors in Japan while I was having a breakfast. Last time I saw Ryo-Kun in Pomona was 1981. It was at Winternational too and long time ago. He was in San Francisco with his family and I was in Costa Mesa back then. Now racer must be serious today as racers has to clear qualify today to go to Finals on Sunday. There is 2 qualify run on Saturday but we missed first one while taking lunch at Hospitality Booth. At second qualify run, Kenji was with us and him as commentator, he's good for that because of his experience! We went up the general stand we saw Fred Larsens' partner Don Cummins grand son Danny. Even though it was both coincidence meeting with RK on Thursday and Danny on Saturday it was strange. The 4.692 second was first place passing qualify and 4.795 second was 16th Place, 0.1 second difference and there are 16 cars in between that time. Plus this years Nitro mixture is 85% according to Kenji's comments. In Kenji's time it was like 97%. Nitro mixture has decreased because of safety but speed and ET has increased. Sound was better in old days, I agreed and Kenji said "Now days a car has security alarm in parking lot doesn't even go on" which is true the security alarm used go on every where in old days races. With decrease use of Nitro, sounds surely has changed. John Force Team had his daughter Ashley in Funny Car race from this year and had 4 cars clearing qualifying round. As for result of Jim Dunn Racing was 4.816 second and did not qualify (DNQ). Budweiser King, Kenny Bernstein was in Funny Car race from this year nut even he was DNQ. That's tough race. Jim Dunn Racing wasn't qualified and rained from Saturday night, I went to the Swap Meet in Riverside on Sunday morning about 5am. The Swap Meet was small in size as rain and it was first one. Here I bought BSA rear fender with cool tail lights. Yoshi was buying parts for the second bike when he hasn't even finished his first bike. I did same, I built what I liked but it was not easy to ride and decided to make second one to ride. In his case before finishing first one he decided it was not easy to ride. The rain got hard in middle of Swap Meet so we left the place and there was a traffic on FWY caused by accident in rain. An some told me that the race was postponed to Monday. Rain stopped when I came back to Orange County and sun was showing around noon. Up so I went to a car wash but it was closed. Probably closed because It was raining in morning, but it must have been busy if they had it opened. The self car washing place was full too so end up in going back to office to wash the car. Man! NHRA Final was held on Sunday after the rain dried up. I shouldn't be washing cars. I found that out on Monday newspaper.

58th Annual Grand National Roadster Show - Motorcycle

先週末開催された、第58回 Grand National Roadster Show（GNRS）に出品されていたMotorcycleを今回は紹介します。 58年の間、開催されているという事は、1949から戦後すぐにこんなイベントが始まったなんて、アメリカは凄いですね。YOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Show（HCS）はまだ15回目が終わったばかりです。GNRSから58年の歴史の積み重ねを感じます。 このイベントのTop AwardにはAmerica's Most Beautiful Motorcycle Award（AMBMC) & Hot Rod（AMBHR）があります。残念ながらブースの搬出作業が忙しく、表彰式を見られなかったのでAMBMCはどのバイクになったのか分かりません。

しかし、Bobber Classでは Gregg Coddington（Boyd CoddingtonのSon）が作ったHDが1位、

2位はCole FosterのHD、

そして3位はChopper Dave、と1位から3位までを彼らが独占してしまいました。

個人的にはScott Craigの製作したOld StyleのChopperが好きですが、残念ながら受賞は出来なかったようです。ScottのHDは2006年のHCSの時はまだ出来たてでしたが、今回は細部に至るまでしっかりFinishしていました。

この様なOld Chopperが多くなってきたのは楽しいです。

Shiftersのブースには四角いDrag SlickがカッコいいTriumphのDrag Bikeが展示されていました。この他にも沢山のHDが展示されていましたが、その中で気になったHDを紹介します。

DicE Magazine等の影響か、最近人気のTriumphはちょっと寂しく1台だけでした。

勿論 Chica Custom CyclesのChicaさんも参加していました。今年もTV出演の依頼等で大忙しのようです。

これを見てください。Speed Master Wheelの様なKidney Beanを履いています。そしてMOON Puke TankをOil Tankとして使っています。

"58th Annual Grand National Roadster Show - Motorcycle" This issue I want to report about Motorcycle seen at the 58th Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS). 58th means since 1949, makes you think How America is great with ability to do event like this right after the war. YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show (HCS) has only just finished its 15th and compared to that GNSR has the long 58 years of history. This events Top Award is America's Most Beautiful Motorcycle Award (AMBMC) & Hot Rod (AMBHR). I was busy packing to leave from the show so I couldn't see who won the AMBMC Top Award. But in Bobber Class, Gregg Coddington (Boyd Coddington' son) won the 1st place with his HD, and second was HD made by Cole Foster and third place was Chopper Dave. So from 1st to the 3rd places were taken by them. I personally like the Old Style Chopper which Scott Craig has made, but he was not awarded this time. Scott's HD was not even finished when it came to HCS but now its all finish even the details. It's great to see this kind of Old Chopper increasing. Shifters had Triumph Drag Bike with cool square rear tire displayed at booth. There were many other HD on displayed but will introduce some I thought it was interesting. With effect of DicE Magazine, the Triumph is getting popular now but sadly only one entry there. Of course Mr. Chica of Chica Custom Cycles was there too. Looks like he is going to be busy again with TV appearance on this year too. Take a look at this Kidney Bean Wheel which looks very much like Speed Master Wheel. Visitors #2

1月14(日)、Barracudaさん主催のDomestic CarsのMorning Cruise "MANIA CRUISE"をArea-1裏 Parking Lot.で開催しました。このMorning Cruiseは奇数月の第2日曜日に開催しています。

今回、50台近くの国産車が集まったのですが、集まったのは国産車だけでなく、USAからVisitorも2名いたのです。しかもどこかで会った事あるなーと思って話していたら、何と12月30日のブログに書いた「MarylandでMS60(クジラクラウン)を持っていて部品を探している」と言っていたSEMAショーで会った人だったのです。今回は兄弟でやって来たそうです。このCruiseの事はBarracudaさんのWebで知ったらしく、オートサロンを見て、このCruiseに来て、28日(日）のNew Year Meetingを見て帰国するそうです。凄い、日本車中心の旅です。

今USAの若者に日本車旧車が受けているようです。以前ブログで、最近、電車やバスを使ってArea-1にやって来る海外からの旅行者が増えたと書いたばかりですが、何と彼らはレンタカーでやって来ました。海外からの旅行者が日本でレンタカーを運転するのは大変だと思います。遂にレンタカーで海外の旅行者がArea-1に来店したのです。 カーナビがあるから大丈夫と言っても日本語ですし、道のサインはおまけ程度の英語しか書いてませんし、デタラメにあっちこっち繋がっている日本の道は海外の人では簡単に運転できませんね。彼らHsu兄弟のガッツに拍手です。彼らのWebサイト "Japanese Nostalgic Car"は楽しいですよ。

夕方にはBike Shop "TT & Company"さんの高橋社長一行がツーリングの途中に立ち寄ってくれました。嬉しい事にバイクの方々の来店も増えています。TT & Companyの皆さん、寒い中ありがとうございました。

"Visitors #2" On Sunday January 14th Morning Cruise for "Domestic Japanese Old cars-called MANIA CRUISE" was hosted by "Barracuda" at MOONEYES Area-1 parking lot in Honmoku, Yokohama. This morning cruise is hosted on every second Sunday of odd month. There were about 50 domestic cars at this morning cruise, not only the domestics but we had 2 visitors from USA. Plus I thought I have seen before and it was on the last blog the same guy from Maryland that I met at 2006 SEMA show looking for parts for 1972 TOYOTA Crown MS60. This time he came with his brother. He found this cruise on Barracuda's Web Site and plan was to see TOKYO Auto Salon, this Cruise and New Year Meeting on Sunday 28th. Their main trip is based on Japanese cars. Now Japanese Nostalgic cars are getting popular among young generation in USA. On the last blog, I had mentioned that there were many people from abroad visiting MOONEYES Area-1 by train and bus but they came driving rent a car. I think it's hard for visitors to drive in Japan with rent a car. Finally visitor from abroad has visited Area-1 by renting a car and driving to Honmoku, Yokohama. I don't think its easy for tourist to drive in Japan as there are only GPS in Japanese, signs on street has English with no intention to guide and road connected in various direction and places. I like to clap hands to Hsu brothers guts. Their Web Site is "Japanese Nostalgic Car" its fun to see. In late after noon, Mr. TAKAHASHI President of Bike Shop "TT & Company" came to stop by while he was touring with his crew. It is nice to know that customer vesting Area-1 Shop by bike is increasing. Easyriders V-Twin Bike Show Tour 2007

1月6日&7日(土・日) Pomona, Californiaで開催された"Easyriders V-Twin Bike Show Tour 2007"に行って来ました。 土曜日の朝一に会場に行きましたが、セキュリティーチェック（空港の様にナイフ等危険物のチェックです）等に手間取り、入場に30分以上も掛かってしまいました。会場で問題が起きたら大変ですから、セキュリティーチェックに時間が掛かるのは仕方ありませんね。安全第一です。この会場は3週間後に開催されるGrand National Roadster Showと同じ場所です。車のイベントの時は何ホールもある建物を使って開催されますが、今回は1ホールだけでの開催でした。

会場内は2005年のホット ロッド・カスタム ショー(HCS)の様にバイクとベンダーブースで満杯状態、観客が沢山来たら歩くのも大変そうな感じ。実際、朝のうちは余裕で歩けた会場も昼過ぎには人が増え、混雑していました。Vendorブースも沢山、販売されている商品は皮製品、バンダナ、ヘルメットとか本当のバイカーのイベントといった商品構成でした。

最近のCaliforniaの車やバイクショーでは、若いピンストライパーがブースでピンストライプを描くシーンが多くなり、日本のイベントのようになりつつあります。昔、Californiaでピンストライプを入れるには何処の誰に頼んだらいいのか分りませんでしたが、今はそんな事ありません。

また、2006年のHCSに出展し、3日に日本からLong Beachに到着したばかりのIndian Larry LegacyのHD2台も展示され、無事に戻った姿を見てほっとしました。

今回、気になったのはGarage Magazineにインタビューも出ていた、LAの"Super Co. Customs"です。

特にこの1950 Indian Cheifは凄いです。このSuper Co. CustomsはLow Rider系の流れがあるようですが、Low RiderテイストのHDというのも楽しみですね。

USAのHDカスタムはその範囲はどんどん広くなり、留まるところを知りません。この綺麗なHDもそうです。

Bikeショーに行けば必ずBoothがある"Chica Custom Cycles"。今回は2006年のBiker Build OffでのWinner Bikeを展示していました。

日章旗のHDがUSAのBikeシーンで受け入れられるのは、Chicaさんだから出来た事でしょう。USAで商売をする我々にはありがたい事です。Chicaさん、今年もガンガンやってください。期待しています！

Bikeショーの隣はNHRA Museumがあり、裏口からそのまま入場できるようになっていたので、久しぶりに中を覗いてきました。展示されている物はDrag RaceやLand Speedに関係する歴史的レースカー、当時の色々な資料や当時のカークラブジャケット、ヘルメット等、一日いても飽きない位、内容は豊富です。車が殆どですが4台のバイクがあったのでここで紹介します。

HD	Triumph

この2台は日本のバイクです。HONDA CB750 OHCのカムカバーはDOHCのKawasakiと比べると言葉にならないくらいかっこいいです。Chopperベースにしてもドーンと大きいこのカムカバーが、細いフレームと妙にバランス良く見えるのです。

それにしても昔のDrag BikeはCrazyです。ここNHRA MuseumにはFred Larsenのレースカーが2台展示されています。一度、NHRA Museumを是非訪ねてみてください。

最後に、こんなWoody Bikeもショーに展示されていました。

"Easyriders V-Twin Bike Show Tour 2007" On Saturday and Sunday January 6th & 7th, went to the "Easyriders V-Twin Bike Show Tour 2007" at Pomona, California. I went early on Saturday morning but security check (for knife and other material like in airport) took more than 30 minutes to enter the show. It is understandable to take time for security at show. Safety first. It's important. This show space is same as Grand National Roadster Show in 3 weeks time. Every hall is used on car show but this show used just one hall. Inside show space it was like HCS 2005, packed full by motorcycle and vender booth, Too tight to even walk if there were many people came to see the show at once. In the morning its was still free to walk around but in the after noon it was hard to walk. There were many vendor booth, with all goods like leather goods, bandana, helmet and really showing the product line up for bikers event. Recent car and bike shows in California has young pinstripers showing pinstriping at booth like in shows in Japan. Back in the days, it was hard to find where to go to get pinstriping done but now its easy to find. The two HD that came to HCS 2006 and got back to Long Beach on 3rd of January were displayed at Indian Larry Legacy's booth and its relieving to see it came back safe. This time I was impressed by the LA "Super Co. Customs" who was on interview of Garage Magazine. Specially this 1950 Indian Chief is amazing. This Super CO. Customs has originally from Low Rider side but its fun to see this HD style with Low Rider taste. HD Custom in USA has expanded its style and seems to not end expanding. This beautiful HD is also like so. The "Chica Custom Cycles who always have booth at bike shows were there with Biker Build Off winner bike of 2006. HD with Japanese Rising Sun Flag has been accepted in USA bike scene because it was done by Chica. Its nice for people like us who does business in USA. Chica please keep it up for this year too, we are wishing all best. There was NHRA Museum at next door with entrance at back so I went in which I haven't been in for while. There were Drag Race and Land Speed related historic race cars and material from old days with old car club jacket Helmet and more. Its plenty of things to see for even taking one whole day. There were mostly cars but some bikes were there too. This is HD, Triumph is here and 2 of Japanese bikes. HONDA CB750 OHC valve cover is so cool that can't quite explain compare to Kawasaki. This big valve cover shows good balance on narrow frame. Anyway, these Old Drag Bikes are crazy. In NHRA Museum there are two Fred Larsen's race cars displayed. Please visit NHRA Museum. Lastly this Woody Bike was displayed at show too.

年末・年始

新年 明けまして おめでとうございます。 素晴らしいNew Yearを迎えられた事と思います。1月3日のブログは正月休みにしてしまったので、1週間ぶりのブログです。

慌しく過ぎ去った年末の出来事ですが、12月29日(金)、横浜中華街にある"東林"という中華店で開催された、Bull Originalの忘年会に社長のヨネさん（米澤さん）から声を掛けて頂いたのでお邪魔してきました。昨年はヨネさんやBratの高嶺さんや若手バイク関係の方々との交流もでき、また色々知らない事を教えて貰ったりで、中々充実した一年だったのです。そんな感じで今回の忘年会に声を掛けてくれたのです。嬉しかったな！

初めは「10人くらいの身内だけですよ～」何て聞いていたのですが、行ってみたらなんと30人近くの人がいて、殆どの方は初めての方ばかりでしたが、メンバーは今のYoung Bike Cultureの第一人者ばかり。活気がありました。燃えてましたね。全員は分かりませんがメンバーはざっと ○ブラット スタイル ○デラクシー カスタムズ ○クラフティー ○シェイキン スピード グラフィックス ○べガス モーターサイクルズ ○ハンティントン ガレージ ○クロスオーバー ○ガルシア ○ロビン ○ハードコア チョッパー ○ストリート バイカーズ ○アンチ ハード ワーカー 凄いでしょ。多分遠方からの人も沢山いた思いますが、わざわざ横浜まで来させちゃう所がBull ヨネさんの人望の厚さなんですね。 いやー、わさわさした年末をこんなに楽しく過ごしたの久しぶりでした。 ヨネさん＆皆さん、素晴らしい時間をどうもありがとう！ここ"東林"は中華街の西門近く、JR根岸線 石川町北口からが近いです。中華街ですから沢山のお店がある中、初めてでしたが美味しかったですよ！ビックリしたのは東林の若社長と昔 MOONEYESに居たスタッフが同級生だった事、横浜は本当に狭いです。それはともかく横浜中華街へ行っても何処へ行っていいか分からない、そんな方には東林をお薦めします。 東林（とうりん）　横浜市中区山下町221 【福建路】　TEL 045-201-8255 営業時間：11:00～21:30（LO21:10） 　定休日：火曜日

この後、PinstriperのShakin'清水さんを誘って本牧へ繰り出したのです。まずは再開店になったリキシャルームへ、そして次はIGへ。IGへ行く途中のコンビニからなんと、MOON Cafe シェフ＆マネジャーの御園君が出てきたのでそのまま一緒にIGへ行き、IGオーナーの八木さん、Shakin'清水さん、御園君＆営業マネージャーのMapこと松浦君と皆で高木紀男氏撮影の「1970年代 横浜・横須賀外車ストリート」を眺め、3:00amまで盛り上がったのでした。

年末31日は恒例のカウントダウンパーティー。MOONEYES Area-1が本牧にオープン以来、毎年開催しているので今年で15回目くらいになるのでしょうか？パーティーといっても大げさな物ではなく、店頭でBBQをし、お客様と一緒に年を越そうと言う企画です。

MOONEYESのBBQはいたってシンプル。大きくて厚めのステーキとソーセージ、それだけです。たまにチキンが加わる時もありますが、それだけで十分。色々な物を焼くのもいいですが、炭火で焼いた大きいステーキをバシっと食べるのが一番です。

23時頃から皆集まり始め、0時に港に停泊中の船の汽笛が響くと「Happy New Year！」全員でシャンパンで乾杯です。0時の汽笛の音、横浜は港町、本牧はまさにBay Areaです。シャンパンと言ってもノンアルコールのお子様シャンパンですよ。この一瞬だけの為に皆さん遠いところからわざわざ本牧へ足を運んでくれて、本当にありがとうございます。

1月2日(火）は初売り、それもMOONEYES Fortune Bag（福袋）の販売日です。11時半の販売開始予定にも関わらず、早くも9時頃から順番を待つお客様が大勢いらっしゃったので、整理券をお配りし、車の中で販売開始時間まで待機していただく事にしました。 今回のFortune Bag（FB）は15,000円相当の衣類関係が5,000円で購入でき、しかもMOONEYESのFBは特製FB用トートバックに入っている為、中身だけでなく袋も使える、という大変お得な福袋なんです。そしてトートバック自体のカラーもサイズや女性・男性・Kids等によってそれぞれ違うので、家族で購入されると色々なカラーのトートバックを揃える事ができます。 このFBは1月8日までArea-1店頭で販売する予定（売り切れ次第終了します）ですが、残念ながら一部サイズは既に2日で売り切れとなってしまいました。

年末のカウントダウン、そして年始はFortune Bagの初売り、と慌しい年末年始も7日(日）に恒例の新年ジャンク フェアー（今回は正月なのでホイールも出ます）を迎えると一段落。ノーマルライフに戻れます。Wildman石井のピンストライプデモは、常に奇数月の第一日曜日、ジャンクフェアーと同時開催です。皆様どうぞお誘い合わせの上お越し下さい。 2007年もどうぞ宜しく御願い致します。

"End of Year, Start of Year" Happy New Year! Hope you had brilliant New Year. It has been a week since the last BLOG has been off for New Year Holiday. The busy end of year season went by and on the Friday 29th December, in Chinese Restaurant called "TORIN" was the "End of Year Party" hosted by Bull Original and we were invited by the owner Mr. Yone (Mr. Yonesawa). Last year was good year as we were able to get to know the Bike scene by getting to know people like Mr. Yone, Mr. Takamine of "Brat Style" and more of young bike people. That's how we were invited to the Party. Which was pleasing for me. It was about ten people at first plan but when we reached there were more then 30 people who mostly was first time to meet. Member were frontier of Young Bike Culture, lively and exciting. Don't know everyone but much as I know. * Brat Style * Deluxie Customs * Krafty * Shakin' Speed Graphix * Vegas Motor Cycles * Huntington Garage * Crossover * Garcia * Robin * Hardcore Chopper * Street Bikers' * Anti Hard Worker Isn't that cool. There were people from long distance, far for just a party but it must have been the Mr. Yone's trust he gain from everyone and how popular he is. It was really nice to have fun in the year end. Thank you to Mr. Yone and everyone there. This "TORIN" is close to the China Town WEST Gate in Yokohama and near the JR Negishi-Line Ishikawacho station North exit. There are many restaurant in China town and first time for me and it was really nice food. The surprise was the young president of the TORIN was friend of ex MOONEYES Staff, What a small town Yokohama. Anyway I recommend to people who haven't tired TORIN in China town when you need to go. First we went to the "Rickisha Room" which re-opened recently, then to "IG" and on the way to "IG" we accidentally met the MOON Cafe's Chef & Manager Misono who joined us to IG together. With Mr. YAGI the owner of "IG", Shackin' Mr.Shimizu, Misono and Sales Manager Map Matsuura known as MAP, We were there until 3:00 am, talking about the pictures from Mr. Norio Takagi photographed "1970 Yokohama/Yokosuka foreign cars on street".

Our Count Down Party is hosted on December 31st of every end of year since MOONEYES Area-1 was opened so it must have been about 15th times. Our party is not too much of a party , we have count down with our customer with BBQ at front side of shop. MOONEYES BBQ is very simple, big thick steak and sausage that's it. Sometime we add chickens but that's really enough and various things may be nice but best is to have bite of charcoal cooked big steak. People gather after 23:00 and when the ships in port blows horn its "Happy New Year", Champaign for everyone to toast. The Horn of Ships in port, YOKOHAMA is BAY SIDE TOWN, HONMOKU is a real Bay Area. Champaign is non-alcohol Kids Champaign. Thank you very much for everyone who came to HONMOKU from long way just for this second.

Tuesday, January 2, 2007 was first day of sale and it's the 1st day of MOONEYES "Fortune Bags" are sold. There were many customers waiting in line by early as 9am, so we handed out ticket to sought out numbers and asked to wait inside their car. This time Fortune Bag (FB) contains 15,000 yen worth clothing and related items. It's very good deal for price of 5,000yen and MOONEYES' FB is in special Toto Bag which is good item to have too. On top of that FB Toto bag has different colors for size of clothing and Men's, Women's & kids are all in different colors so different color bags can be collected, if purchased by family. This FB can be purchased at MOONEYES Area-1, HONMOKU YOKOHAMA until January 8th. There are some sizes that already sold out by two days. The end of year Count Down Party, start of year by first sales of Fortune Bag and this busy end of year and new year season will end after Junk Fair on Sunday 7th, will be back in a normal life. The Wildman Ishii's Pinstriping Demonstration is always on odd month first Sunday, Same day as Junk fair. So please come with your friends. Thank you very much. We look forward to see you on 2007.

続 MOONEYES USA Xmas Party：Bike編

今回はMOOEYES USA Xmas Party（MXP）のバイク編をお届けします。 車とバイク、かなり交わってきましたね。バイカーらしい出で立ちの人よりも、Dickies等を着用している人が多いのもHot Rod系イベントの特徴だと思います。

日本から飛行機でLAX(空港）に着き、窓から外を見ているとまず目にするのがDickies等の作業服を着た空港関係の人達ですが、 同じ格好で飛行機から降りて行くと空港関係者と間違われてしまうかもしれませんね。昨今のこの現象のお陰で、昔々からDickiesを制服にしていたMOONEYESでも、Dickiesを履くのを嫌っていたMOONEYESスタッフも今では抵抗なく履いています。いい事です。 さて今回のMXPに沢山のバイクも参加して来ました。数では圧倒的にHDが多いですが、勿論Triumphもかなりいました。Hot Rod系イベントにはTirumphが無くてはならないのです。でも仕上がり方が日本のTriumph達とは何かが違いますね。それはUSAはHot Roｄから始まったからでしょうか？それとも日本はバイク系から発生したからでしょうか？作り方が微妙に違いますがTriumphはカッコいいです。取り回しも大きさも、我々日本人にピッタリではありませんか。
