NHRA Museum へ搬入

東の空がブルー＆ピンクです。今朝は昨日とうって変わって良い天気のようです。
The eastern sky is blue & pink. This morning was completely opposite of yesterday and the weather looks great.

今日USAの火曜日24日です。本日はShopとNHRA Museumを３往復して MQQN Trike, MQQNEYES Dragster, そして Chico's LSR 533 Roadster ３台を運び込みました。
と言ってもこの Blog がアップされる JPN 土曜日には MQQN Exhibit Kick Off Party が丁度始まる時間くらいですから続きは Twitter に入れておきます。
On Tuesday Jan. 24, the MQQN Trike, MQQNEYES Dragster and Chico's LSR 533 Roadster were delivered to the NHRA Museum. At the time of this blog post, Saturday in Japan, there's a MQQN Exhibit Kick Off Party being held at the NHRA Museum. I'll post pictures via my Twitter account.


月曜日の大雨で山はすっかり冬景色になりました。
昨日は異常な雨だったのでFWYでは事故多発、 朝 3台前を走っていたシビックはいきなり右を向いたかと思ったらそのままガードレール (コンクリートの壁) に激突、 エアーバッグが開き室内が真っ白になっていました。 5回は事故を見ましたが横転、 激突、 追突等どれも激しい物ばかりでした。 日本ではまず見られない光景でした。
After Monday's heavy rainfall, the mountains have a winter scenery feel. It was an unusual amount of rain and the FWY had many accidents. In the morning, just three cars in front of me a Civic suddenly turned sideways and then crashed right into a guardrail (concrete barrier). You know the airbag opened because the interior was all white. I saw as many as 5 accidents that day, spin outs, median/barrier crashes, and rear end collisions, all are violent. Not something you see everyday.

FWY では　Historical Vehicle ライセンスプレートをつけたセリカが我々を抜いて行きました。
セリカにこのプレート ピントきません。
On the FWY, this Toyota Celica had a Historical Vehicle license plate.
For some reason, the Celica didn't hit me as a historic car.

HCS2011 Show is Over

騒音/暴走行為の問題も無く、 皆様の協力のお陰で 20回目の Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 無事終了しました。
色々不手際もありましたがお許し下さい。 ご協力ありがとうございました！！
さすが寄る歳には勝てず体のあっちこっちが痛いです。
詳しいショーの内容は近々 Website にアップされますのでお楽しみに！！

It was with everyone's cooperation and support that the 20th Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show was a great success! There were no issues or complaints about noise or street chaos from the neighbors too.
There were some awkward moments on our part, sorry. But thank you to all for your cooperation!!
As one would expect, as the body gets older each year, the pain in various places increases.
Show details and galleries will be posted to our website soon. Don't miss it!!

22nd Crown Picnic

10月30日 (日) 22回目の Crown Picnic が本牧山頂公園駐車場で開催されました。
幸い天気も良く沢山のクラウンが集まりました。
最近では TV コマーシャルにも出る位、 メジャーな旧車になった Toyota Crown, 良い車です。

It was the 22nd Annual Crown Picnic on Sunday October 30th in Honmoku Sancho Koen (Honmoku Hilltop Park).
The weather was great and a lot of Crowns showed up too.
There's a recent TV commercial that features an old Toyota Crown, which has made the car gain some popularity.


今週末は桐生で旧車のイベントがあります。
その宣伝の為 Dr. Maehara はタキシード姿で参加して下さいました。

This weeked there's an old Japanese domestic car event in Kiryu.
As a special promotion of the event, Dr. Maehara was dressed in a tuxedo.

この年代の車で浜松からも結構大変な距離です。もしStandard使用で３速だとあまり飛ばす事も出来ません。
This era car drove a far distance to get to Yokohama. If it's still using the original 3-speed, there's no speed.

年式別のタバコケース、昔は応接間には必ずあった一品です。

Hellaflush Japan

「10月1日に富士スピードウェイにて、 Fatlace にとって初となる日本でのイベント、Hellaflush Japan が行われます。」
と言う情報を頂戴したので富士スピードウエイに Blue Panic の金子社長と行ってきました。
若者の車離れと巷では騒いでいますが ここには若者が沢山いました。 それも思い思いの車と一緒にです。
"On Oct. 1st at Fuji Speedway, Fatlace will have their first event in Japan, called Hellaflush Japan." That was the message I received and so Mr. Blue (owner of Blue Panic) and I headed for Fuji Speedway.
I expected to see something very different there but there were a lot of younger generation people at the event and a lot of nice cars that were very similar in some aspects.



しかも若者しかいませんでした！ 限定商品を販売するブースは長蛇の列！！
今時こんなイベントあったかなっと驚きのイベントでした。
どうも昔の BBS ホイルが流行の様です。
また Wink Mirror 装着車も多かったです。
たまには違う世界を見るのも大切ですね！
勉強になりました。
But there were a lot of youth there! There was a long line for limited edition event only items that were for sale at their booth!!
Presently, I don't think there are any events like this here. I was surprised.
Looks like old BBS wheels are currently a popular item again.
Also, there were a lot of cars with Wink Mirrors.
Once in a while it's important to check out the different scenes.
You can learn a lot.

Family Pet Toyopet Crown Pick Up

30年前の 1981年6月 Doug と二人で Oahu島へ知り合いを頼りに行った時買った雑誌 「Hawaiian Hot Rod」, 今ハワイで車雑誌は存在しているのでしょうか？
残念ながら Magazine Stand では見つけられませんでした。
色々興味深い記事の中に何と "Family Pet" と言うタイトルで Toyopet (昔の TOYOTA の呼び名) 観音 Pick Up を発見！
それも Chevy SB V-8 が載っていてカラーリングがいかしている 70s 風の車。
以前 Santa Monica で見た同系車をいれて USA ではこれで２台目の観音 Crown Pick Up。
「ハワイにもあったんだ」 「これも是非見てみたい」 と思ってもなかなか叶う物では無く島を離れました。

ちなみに Santa Monica にあったのは 2年前の Hot Rod Custom Show で衝撃のデビューをした車です。
話を元に戻し、30年経ったある日、 Oahu の友人にこのページを送ったら何と何とですよオーナーを見つけ出してくれたのです。
しかもまだこの車を所有していると言う話、それから色々あって今回やっとお宅をお邪魔し、実車を拝見させて頂いたのでした。
ガレージには Transmission, Engine 等が所せましを置かれ足の踏み場も無い感じ、車はバラバラ状態でしたがペイントもインテリアも当時のまま、ホイルは Ansen Slot から Centerline に変わっていましたがこのホイルもしっかり似合っていました。
「ワイキキをクルーズすると人気が抜群だったとか」
クルーズをしていると沢山の人に見られて恥ずかしいと言う奥さんに
「君が見られているのでは無くてこの車が見られているんだ」とか
Lanai で昔の話を沢山聞かせて頂きました。
この機会を作ってくれた友人の Hawaii Five O に感謝、感謝です。
是非ともこのままの姿でもう一度走る姿を見たいものです。

30 years ago in June 1981, my friend Doug and I went to the island of Oahu to visit friends there. I bought this magazine called "HAWAIIAN HOT ROD", a quarterly magazine just started that year. I wonder if they are still around?
While I was there recently, I looked but didn't see any on newsstands for sale.

It was filled with great content and articles and one article was titled "Family Pet" and then I realized it was a Toyopet (old name for Toyota) 1st generation Pickup! It was stuffed with Chevy SB V-8 and was painted with a 70s theme.
I remember seeing the same model 1st generation Crown Pickup in Santa Monica back in the late 70s, so that makes 2 that still exist in the USA.

I remember thinking to myself, "They exist in Hawaii too" and, "Sure would like to see it in person," but I eventually left the island and returned to Japan.

By the way, the one from Santa Monica made a shocking debut at the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show a few years ago.

Back to the topic at hand, and 30 years later to the present time. I had sent this article to my friend in Oahu and next thing you know, he told me he found the original owner!

Not only did he find the owner, the owner still has the car in his possession. After they talked several times, he agreed for us to come and look at the actual car in person.

In the garage there was barely anywhere to walk because the engine and transmission were out and there were stuff all around. The car was taken apart but the paint and interior were still exact as the magazine article. The wheels which used to be Ansen were swapped for Centerlines which still look great.

"This was a popular car to cruise around Waikiki." His wife said that while going for a cruise, so many people would stop and look. It was embarrassing. He replied with, "They weren't looking at us, they were looking at the car."

We all sat around "talking story" about old times on their Lanai.
If it wasn't for my friends Hawaii Five O action, we wouldn't have been able to do that and I am grateful. Thank you!

SCN 無事終了しました - SCN Finished Smoothly

25回目の Street Car Nationals 無事終了しました。 ありがとうございました。
天気予報では当日は晴れ、 しかし前夜まで激しい雨が降り 「本当に晴れるの？！」 って感じでしたが
みんなの思いが通じ、 当日は早朝から快晴、 朝のうちあった風も無くなり大変過ごしやすい小春日和のSCNでした。
今回は 25回目と言う事もあり 「何か特別な事を」 と思っていましたが 3月11日を境にもっと特別な事態となり 4月末の開催とは言え色々検討をしました。 25回記念ではなく被災された方々に第 25回目の SCN として何か出来るか？
結論としては、 会場に集まって下さった方々 一人一人が何かの形で参加できる、
25回目の SCN はチャリティーイベントとして開催する事にしました。

25回目なのでエントリーして下さった方々のエントリー代金の 25%を義援金とさせて頂き、
MOONEYES と関係の深い USA の友人達から預かった物でチャリティーオークションを開催しそこで集まったお金を義援金にする 「MOONEYES & Friends Charity Auction」 を開催、
資源を大事にしようと 「もったいない」 ステッカー 2,000枚の売り上げ全額、
過去に MOONEYES が主催した Event の記念 Tシャツ等 576点の販売金額全額、
SCN 会場及び MOONEYES Area-1 & MOON Cafe に設置した MOON Tank 募金、
また当日のケータリングの方々にもご協力頂き、出展料の5%を義援金として提供して下さいました。
その合計金額 5,444,800円 を義援金として 「日赤義援金口 東北関東大震災義援金」 へ昨日納めさせて頂きました。

皆様の気持ちが一つなり多くの金額になった事に感謝致します。 ありがとうございました。
また被災地で今なお大変な思いをされている方々へ 一刻も早く平穏な日々が過ごせる様になる事をお祈り致します。

The 25th Annual Street Car Nationals finished without any major situations. Thank you very much.
The weather forecast was calling for sunny skies, however the night before was raining very hard I started to ask myself, "Is it really going to be sunny on Sunday?!" but after that, the next morning was nice and clear with occasional strong winds. By the time we started the event, the weather was perfect.
With this being the 25th time holding the event, there was a need to have "something special" for the occasion. However, with the disaster of March 11 and being not too long after, it wasn't the right mood for something to celebrate. After much consideration, it was decided that instead, we would do something special for the victims of the tragic events from 3/11. So, it was a matter of, what could SCN do?
After much consideration, we felt that each individual person coming to the event could contribute. Not only that, in all aspects of the event and at the 25th SCN we would hold a charity auction as well.

In all aspects of SCN, everyone contributed, even without knowing at first. First off, 25% of all Car Show & Swap Meet registrations were going to charity. So many MOONEYES Friends from USA contributed gifts to be auctioned, we were set for a complete day of auctioning and raising money for the charity as well. That's what became "MOONEYES & Friends Charity Auction". Considering how we all started to realize the value of electricity (from the power plant failure), we made a limited edition sticker MOTTAINAI which sold out 2,000 stickers before the end of the day. All proceeds went to charity. Treasure hunters were digging for old MOONEYES Event-Only T-shirts in a huge pile. These also sold out and sale went to charity. We also collected MOON Tank one-coins at the event and at MOONEYES Area-1 and MOON Cafe in Honmoku for charity. The catering services at the event also contributed by 5% of their registration fee going to charity. Overall, the grand total was just shy of 5.5 million yen, about $65,000 USD. This amount was donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

With everyone contributing a little and a few others contributing a lot, it's amazing how fast it adds up. We are grateful for everyone that came to the event and for contributing support. Thank you very much. This is surely making a big difference to the people affected by the disaster of 3/11. We hope the recovery is as fast as possible and everything gets back to normal real soon.

MOONEYES Area-1駐車場 - Parking

MOONEYES Area-1 の道をはさんだ反対側、 日、 祭日等に使用していた臨時駐車場が 2月一杯で使え無くなります。

この広大な土地は国の管理となるそうで、 近い将来売られるそうですからここにも大きな集合住宅が出来るでしょう。 横浜の街の 中心でこんな空き地がいつまでも残っている事が不思議なくらいだったので仕方ありません。

が
さてこれからお客様 Parking をどうするか大きな課題が残りました。
あと 1ヶ月で結論を出さないと行けません。

Across the street behind MOONEYES Area-1 is a large open parking lot that we have used on Sundays and holidays, however at the end of next month (Feb) it will no longer be available for use.

This huge area of land maintained by the government will most likely be sold for development in the near future and will become a large apartment structure or something. We have been very fortunate all this time to have such a large open area for our use in the heart of Yokohama. It's been a miracle that we have had access to it all this time so we really can't complain.

However, this brings up customer parking. Now we have to figure out a new parking plan. At least we have one month to figure out what to do.

2010年も色々ありました。

今日はXmas. そしてMOONEYES Area-1では恒例のCurise Night.
今年も沢山のイベントを開催しました。

Today is Xmas. Plus our popular Cruise Night at MOONEYES Area-1.
We have hosted many event again this year.


2月のRazzle Dazzleから始まり4月のSCN, 8月Motorcycle Swapmeet,

Starting from "Razzle Dazzle" in Feb and "Street Car Nationals" a.k.a "SCN"
on April, Motorcycle Swapmeet




9月はVW T-2 Party, All Odds Natinals, 10月今回初めての開催となった Muscle Carだけを対象にした
Muscle Manic、21回目になったCrown Picnic,

On August and VW T-2 Party and All Odds Nationals on September,
First Muscle cars only event called "Muscle Maniac" and 21st year for "Crown Picnic" on October,



12月は毎週の何かがあり 5日にPacifico YokohamaでHCS、6日後の11日にはUSAでXmas Party Show & Drag,

Motorcycle Swapmeet on August and VW T-2 Party and All Odds Nationals on September, First Muscle cars only event called "Muscle Maniac" and 21st year for "Crown Picnic" on October, Every week various events were on December, "Hot Rod Custom Show" a.k.a HCS at Pacifico Yokohama, 6days later on 11th "Xmas Party Show & Drag" in USA,



そして翌日12日はMOONEYES USA Xmas Company Dinner,

Next day was "MOONEYES USA Xmas Company Dinner",



18日はDuece Factory Japanの25周年記念PartyがYokohama Seaman's Clubであり翌19日はInvitational Onlyの MOONEYES Xmas Party と やっと一息ついた感じです。

18th was 25th anniversary party for Deuce Factory Japan at Seaman's club in Yokohama, next day on 19th was invitational only "MOONEYES Xmas Party"
and finally little break to catch up with breathing.





あとは31日、New Year's EveのCount Down Partyだけです。

We have only one more to host on 31st, New Year's Eve Count Down Party! at MOONEYES Area-1.

そして来年2011年、SCNは25回目、しかし会場が2/3位の大きさになりそうです。
HCSは20周年、1992年12月Rat Fink Reuionとして始まったMOONEYES USA主催のMOONEYES Xmas Party Show & Dragも20周年です。
来年は色々とありそうです。

As for next year on 2011, SCN will be on its 25th anniversary, though space may be smaller as 2/3.
HCS will be on its 20th anniversary, "MOONEYES Xmas Party Show & Drag"
hosted by MOONEYES USA
will also be on its 20th Anniversary which started on December 1992 from "Rat Fink Reunion".
Looks like Various things will be happening next year.

明日は２１回目のCrown Picnic, 21st Crown Picnic Tomorrow

明日は２１回目のCrown Picnic, 天気が気になります。
Crown Picnic は過去 ２０回で雨は１回くらいだったと思います。
今回は ６５台ものエントリーがあるので何とか天気が回復してくれると良いです。
It's the 21st Crown Picnic tomorrow and the weather has be thinking.
In the past 20 meetings of the Crown Picnic I think it may have rained once.
This year we have about 65 Crown Entries and it would be nice if the weather would make a quick change and clear up.


Crown ではありませんが　1970 Toyota Hi Lux 左ハンドルがFor Saleです。
ラックにSurfboard積んでサーフィンへ、長い釣り竿積んでフィッシングにと このラックは便利そうです。
Although not a Crown, but a Toyota nonetheless, we have a LHD (left hand drive) 1970 Hilux for sale. The pipe rack make this a potential surfboard rack and a cool truck for outdoors like fishing and such. These racks are very useful for all kinds of things.

Japanese Classic Car Show at Long Beach

昨年まで Orange County, Irvine で開催されていた JCCS 旧車日本車のイベントが Long Beach に戻り開催されました。
Last year it was held at Irvine in Orange County, but this year the JCCS (Japanese Classic Car Show) has returned to Long Beach.


海の隣で Queen Mary もあり横浜なら山下公園で Car Show 開催する感じです。山下公園で開催で来たら気持ちいいでしょうね〜。
The event in next to the bay with Queen Mary sitting in the port, just like having a car show in Yamashita Park in Yokohama, Japan. It woud actually be really cool to have an event like this in Yamashita Park.


今回も右ハンドルの Toyota Crown Pick Up RS46 を持って行きました。勿論 Booth も出したました。
We brought the RHD 1964 Toyota Crown Pickup (RS46) and had a Booth too.


RS46 なら Masterline だと思うかもしれませんがこの車は オーストラリア からの日本経由で California は送ったので オーストラリア 物なので Crown なんです。
As for RS46, it would normally be called a Masterline in Japan but since this car was originally an export to Australia, it was badged as a Crown. It went from Australia, back to Japan and now it's in California.


Booth に居ると MOON T-shirt を着ている 3人兄弟がご両親と寄ってくれました。ありがとうございます。
At the booth, there were three young enthusiasts that stopped by sporting MOON T-shirts. Thank you very much.



今回一番気になったのはこの Dodge 達です
The cars t hat really got my attention this time were the Dodge cars.


そして何時もカッコイイのは Mazda RX-2。
And of course, as always, the Mazda RX-2 is cool.


これは Toyota の Hemi、この Century の Motor です。
This is a Toyota Hemi (left), that is standard in the big 1970 Toyota Century (right).


この Toyota Hi Lux も気になった一台です。
This Toyota Hi Lux also got my attention looking real good.


もう何回同じ車の写真を撮ったでしょうか？ と思っても BRE カラーは何時も気になります。
I always think, everytime I come to the car show I see these same cars but anytime you see BRE colors it doesn't matter because they are awesome.


このショーの為に Wildman が制作した Award Disc はこの Show の Best of Show に渡されます。
For this show, WILDMAN made a MOON Disc for the "MOONEYES Pick" and it went to the winner of the "Best of Show" award too.


そして Winner はこの Toyota Sports 800 のオーナーでした。
おめでとうございます。今回このイベントにはルイジアナとかマイアミ等 East Coast から沢山の人は来ていました。USA の日本旧車はちょっとしたブームの様です。
The winner was the owner of this Toyota Sports 800.
Congratulations. I noticed there were a lot of people that came to the show from the East Coast like Louisiana and Miami. Maybe old Japanese cars are getting more popular.

大雪！

Major Snow


このクラウンを見て下さい。屋根の上には何センチ雪が積もっているのでしょうか。もうクルマがつぶれそうです。
Take a look at this Toyota Crown. I wonder just how many inches of snow is piled on the roof. I think it's about to crush the roof of the car.

ここ数日、北海道や日本海方面では大雪になっているとの事ですが、フィンランドも大雪のようです。
なんでも寒い時はマイナス30度くらいになるとの事、最近はマイナス15度なので結構過ごし易いそうです。
In recent days, Hokkaido (Northern island of Japan) and other parts of northern Japan have been getting a lot of snow. I heard that Finland was getting a lot of snow too.
During this time of the year, cold is around -30 degrees (celsius) which is about -22F. Lately it's been about -15 degrees (just above freezing) so I suppose it's easier to handle.

マイナス15度、フィンランドは℃（摂氏）ですよね！
今朝の横浜は+16度（1月21日）暑かったです。
Minus 15 degrees (C) in Finland is the high!
Last week (1/21) the morning temperature in Yokohama it was +16 degrees (C). It was hot!

20回目の Crown Picnic

20th Annual Crown Picnic

Crown が好きだからと言うだけの理由で 1990年に始まった Crown Picnic も今回で20回目を迎える事になりました。
It was the 20th anniversary for the CROWN Picnic this year which started in 1990, simply because I like Toyota CROWN.

こんな素敵なケーキを頂戴したりで感謝です。下はエントリーに配った、記念ポスターです。
Thank you very much for this special anniversary cake!! Its great to receive such a present. The cake is on a commemorative poster we handed out to entrants.

この所、問題があり過ぎ姿を見せなかった Mr. Blue も来てくれました。Mr. Blue は １９７０年の Crown Pick Up を所有しているはずでが乗って来たのは？？？とても言えません。もしかしたら色々な事情からもう手元にないのでしょうか？引き続き彼のピックアップの情報は募集中です。
Mr. Blue owns a nice 1970 Toyota CROWN pick up but he showed up with??? another car that I just can't mention here. Mr. Blue has been away recently with many problems he makes. Maybe it is already gone with many reasons. If you have any info regarding his pick up we appreciate it.

何とMr. Blueは　ブルーのジャンパー（ジャケット）、色が落ちた ５０１ ジーパン （ジーンズ） そして白のナイキの運動靴 （スニーカー） ８０ｓ を意識してかそれともこれしかないのかいずれにしても最近あまりお目に掛からないでたちです。
Mr. Blue appeared in rare style, jeans jacket, 501 blue jeans with faded color and white Nike sneakers that looks like he came out from 80s, not sure if he planned or only had these outfit.

５０歳を越したオッサン達は手のやり場に困るのです。
3人とも腕を組んでいますが別に偉ぶっているのでは無く手のやり場が無いのです。手のやりば困る最近です。
I noticed that while everyone was enjoying the show, three of the elders including myself over the age of 50 had their arms folded in front. It's not that we want to make a pose like that but we don’t know where to put our hands.

Isky Camshaft の Mr. Isky に会えました。今までは会う機会があれば必ず 「誰が今のMOONをやっているんだ？」 と毎回同じ質問をされそのたびに 「僕です」 答えていましたが、今回は 「Shige」と ちゃんと名前を覚えていてくれました。嬉しいです！あの Cam Fathers "Isky" です。Dean MOON, Ed Big Daddy Roth, Jim Diest等沢山の Hot Rod のパイオニアが神に導かれる中彼には何時までも元気でいてほしいです。この後 Hot Rod は誰に導かれどこに向かうのでしょうか？

I met Mr. Isky of Isky Camshaft. This time I was so happy to hear that he remembered my name when he said, "Shige!"
Every other time he would ask, "Who runs MOON now?" and I would always answer with, "I do."
It's great honor for Isky Cam’s legendry Mr. Isky to know my name.

1970 Toyota Crown 4WD??

狂っていますね！
Big Isalndに住む友人が送ってくれた１９７０年型トヨタクラウン　それもステーションワゴンの４WDです。
ボデイーもそんな程度悪そうではないしもったいないな！

A friend from the Big Island (Hawaii) sent these photos and wrote:
This weekend I finally was able to catch up to this MS50 series Crown on the Big Island. I have seen it for years, but it was always driving the other way. It is really weird with it sitting on top on 4wd frame chassis. This is the only other Crown I know of in Hawaii today, that is actually driven other than mine.

Running up in front in Blue is the "Glory Rod" a 1971 Nissan Gloria with a Chevy V-8. The yellow small car is a 1970 Toyota Crown Pick Up, also with a Chevy V-8.

もう一枚はなんと　"MOON Glow" 1975 Mitsubishi Debonair です。
The other one is none other than "MOON Glow" an 1975 Mitsubishi Debonair.

3台共それぞれ健在です。
何時か集まってほしいです。
All three are still alive and well. I would someday like to get all three
together.

昼休みにFly Wheel 誌の及川君のブログを見ていたら
「飛行機が雨漏りで飛ばなかった」ってありました。
During lunch I was reading Fly Wheel magazine's blog by Mr. Oikawa and read about the airplane he was flying being canceled because rain was leaking into the cabin.

10年以上前の事ですが、僕の時は大雨の中、成田空港をLAに向けて滑走し飛行機が上昇し始めた途端、頭上の荷物入れ付近から隣の席へ、ドバーっとバケツをひっくり返したみたいに大量の水が落ちてきました。
It reminded me of a time about 10 years ago when a plane I was on got caught
in a rain storm on the way to LAX from Narita Airport. The plane climbed up
above the rain and all of a sudden from the overhead compartment above the
seat next to me, SPLASH! Like a bucket of water came pouring down.
本当にビックリ！でした。
That was really scary!

それでもそのままLAに飛んで行きましたが。（途中下車できない！）
「いったどこからあの水が室内に入って来たのか？」
LAまでの約9時間、機中でズーっと考えていました。やはり雨漏り以外考えられませんでした。
でも乗務員は慣れっこなのか「すみませーん今拭きますねー」って冷静だったのを覚えています。
ちなみに飛行機会社も及川君を同じでした。
However, it wasn't like we could stop anywhere as we were in-flight so the
plane continued to LA. "Where exactly did all that water come from?"
It takes about 9 hours to LA and after that incident I couldn't think of
anything else but the water leak. Maybe because of practice, I don't know,
but I remember the flight crew being very calm and helpful. Interestingly
enough, that flight was the same airlines as the one Mr. Oikawa was one.

検品 - taking QC

台湾から大量のHub Capが入荷、今朝は8時からスタッフ総出で検品です。
A large shipment of Hub Caps arrived from Taiwan, so the staff get together at 08:00 for inspection.

Hub Cap 一枚一枚、手と目で確認です。必ず数枚、場合によっては数十枚の不良品がこの作業で見つかります。もうこの作業を20年以上やっていますが今だにはじかれる商品があるのは作る側に問題ありですね。
One by one, each Hub Cap is confirmed both visually and physically. Without a fail, depending on the situation, there are several to dozens of inferior items discovered during this process. This particular duty has been done for over 20 years. Even now, the fact that defective items are present is because the manufacturing process hasn't changed.

それとも我々日本人がうるさいのでしょうか？ちなみにMOONEYES USAではやっていませんが、販売先からのクレームもありません。　
Or perhaps it's us Japanese that are too picky?
Incidentally, MOONEYES USA doesn't do this process but hasn't had any sales claims either.

久しぶりに天気も良くなったので冬の間に枯れつつあったバナナの葉っぱを切り落としました。
葉っぱを切っているのはMonkey村上君です。
It's been a while since the weather was this nice so we cut down the banana leaves that had withered over the winter. Cutting the leaves by Mr. Monkey Murakami.

昨年の冬はほぼ全壊に近く枯れてしまったのですが、今年は結構緑が残っています。
これも暖冬の影響なのでしょうか？
Last winter it almost withered entirely but this year a lot of green remains.
I wonder if this is the result of the mild winter as well?

そして17インチタイヤに入れて一安心のPan君です。
Lastly, Pan is feeling safe and sound inside 17-inch tires, look like Michelin Boy!

70's

水曜日からChallengerがピンストライプの仕事でMOON Garageに入っていました。
車を見ながら派手だなーと思っていたら、木曜日にはArea-1の駐車場に懐かしいカローラが止まっていました。
Since Wednesday, this Challenger has been at MOON Garage for pinstripe work.
While looking at the car and thinking how flashy it was, on Thursday this nostalgic Toyota Corolla was parked at Area-1.

一瞬の70年代でした。
It was a 70s moment.

Mr. Blueのブログを見たら、「三重県の SHOE BOX の川村社長が、わざわざ横浜の田舎まで来てくれて・・・
I saw the following on Mr. Blue's blog: "Mr. Kawamura, the owner of SHOE BOX located in Mie-ken south of Osaka, made a special visit all the way out to the Yokohama ...

それもなんと、Hemi 1/2 カローラで！ほぼ毎日、足として使っている様で、流石！「旧車は出来るだけしょっちゅう動かしている方がいい！」と言っていますが、
On top of that, he came with the 1969 Toyota Corolla 1/2 Hemi!　which was build by MOONEYES about 6-7 years ago. He has been using this to get around almost everyday, which is good! It's important that owners of old cars move them around as much as possible."

彼に譲ったこの旧車Crown Pick Upは今どうなっているのでしょう。
Although that was said, this 1970 Toyota Crown Pick Up was turned over to his care and I wonder what state it's in now.

「旧車は出来るだけしょっちゅう動かしている方がいい！」　なんて言っていますが最近は軽トラしか乗っている姿を見た事ありません。
"It's important that owners of old cars move them around as much as possible." Mr. Blue says that but I've only seen him driving his Japanese size small-truck and nothing else.

「要らなくなったら戻します」との約束で持って行きましたがもう返してもらってもしょうがない状態なんでしょう。誰か画像あったら送ってください。
I said, "When you don't want it anymore, bring it back." He promised and left with the car but it's probably not in any usable condition to even return now. If anybody has a picture of it, please send it to me.

ところでこのCrown Pick Up、まだMOONEYES Open前　Mr. Blueから購入しかけたのですが
Mr. Blue、昔も今と変わらずのゴウツクバリ、結局値段が合わず購入できませんでした。
Incidentally, I wanted to buy this 1970 Toyota Crown Pick Up from Mr. Blue before MOONEYES opened for business in 1986. A long time ago, not much different than now, Mr. Blue was very stubborn and wouldn't come down on the price so I didn't buy it.

もう一台は、昔のMr. Blueの廃車置場（あれ販売車だったのかな？）にあったCrown Pick Up。
これも値段が合わず購入できませんでした。こうしてMr. Blueは車を皆、土に返して行くのでしょう。
He had another one, a delicensed 1970 Toyota Crown Pick Up that was parked in the back (I wonder if that was even for sale?) but a price couldn't be agreed on and it wasn't purchased. Just like this, Mr. Blue would rather return all the cars to the earth.

あのPick Upも土に帰っていないとは保障の限りではありませんね。
If that Pick Up wasn't returned to the earth, it would only be because of someone saving it.

Wildman's Pinstriping （ワイルドマン's ピンストライピング）

先々週のWildmanのブログで紹介されたCrown 2台をお見せします。
Pick Upが「Magic of the Blue」、Stationwagonが「Black Magic」
Wildmanの初期の作品ですが、まだ描き出しの頃です。
良くここまで描いたと思います。。
秘話ですが、この2台結構書き直しをした事がありました。
一度描いた物を消すのは本人にとって大変なストレスですが、それが出来たWildman。
だから今の彼があるのですね。

この2台から日本でのPinstripeが始まったと言っても決して過言ではありません。
Mack Brushを手に入れピンストライプに僕もトライした時期がありましたが、「タバコ、酒をやめて、残るはひたすら練習するだけ」だと当時務めていた会社の人に言われ結構簡単に諦めました。
たばこは吸わないからOK、でも後の2つは。。。。
その時のMack BrushをWilｄmanが使い描いたのがこの2台でした。

I want to show the two Toyota Crowns that appeared on Wildman's blog the week before last.

1970 Toyota Crown Pick Up was called "Magic of the Blue" and 1966 Toyota Crown Station Wagon was "Black Magic".
Both were early works of MOONEYES Official Pinstriper Wildman Ishii when he first started to draw.
I think it was drawn really well...
The secret story behind these two cars is that there were many corrections.
Wildman was stressed out for having to erase his work, but that is why he is what he is now.

It is said that from these two cars, Pinstriping in Japan was born and that's no exaggeration.

With a Mack Brush in hand, there was a time when I even tried pinstriping but, I was told by one of Disney artist "Quit smoking, drinking and dedicate to practice" and at the time, I was quick to give up.
I didn't smoke so that was OK, but the other two parts well...
That being said, with the same Mack Brush, Wildman striped these two cars.

Hawaii へ行った TOYOTA Crown Hard Top

Big Island of Hawaii へ渡った1970 Toyota Crown H/T。
遂にHawaii License Plateが付きました。
The 1970 Toyota Crown H/T that was sent over to the Big Island of Hawaii finally got a Hawaii License Plate.

とてもあの車とは思えませんね。
It totally doesn't look like the same car anymore.

寒い所より暖かい所ですよね。環境が変われば人も車も生き返りますね。
Not as severe as the cold, the warm climate and the environment has an impact on living conditions.

CROWN Classics Report

そのHawaiiですが、新聞によれば1997年に220万人を記録したHawaiiへの日本人観光客は、2007年には130万人に減ってしまい「日本人の心、Hawaii離れ、あこがれの島 今は昔」との事です。
Also in Hawaii, according to a newspaper, in 1997 the number of Japanese tourists was recorded at 2,200,000 compared a declined amount of 1,300,000 in 2007.

2009年東京オートサロン/Auto Salon 2009

会場広しと言っても、僕の今年のAuto Salon1番はこのToyota 2000GTでした。
Out of everything at this year's Autosalon, my No.1 Pick would have to be this Toyota 2000GT.


歩きながらこの車を見かけた時は「2000GT」だと思ったくらいでしたが、見るとNISSAN RB26 Motorが載っているから、「へー換装したんだ」なんて程度にその時はまだ軽く考えていましたが、隣で説明を聞いている人の話を聞いているとなんとNISSAN Fairlady Z S-30がベースと言っています。
When I first saw this car while walking around I thought, "2000GT" but when I saw the engine, noticed it was equipped with a NISSAN RB26 Motor. As I silently thought about the engine swap idea I could hear a person giving the description of this car explaining things - then said the base vehicle is actually a NISSAN Fairlady Z (S-30), also known as a Datsun 240Z!

そう言われて色々、色眼鏡で見ると「なるほどレプリカだ」と思う箇所のありましたが、言われないと分からない位良く出来ていました。
From a biased point of view it is a logical replica but without someone explaining all this, it would be difficult to tell because it built so well.

その晩あった友人にこれらの写真を見せました。写真を一通り見た彼は何事もなく写真をテーブルに置きましたが「これS-30ベースだよ」って説明すると「えー」っと、もう一度よく写真を見直し「そう言われればRear QTRの当たりが　。。。。」となった程。
Later that evening I showed a friend all the photos I took of the car. He looked them over then put them on the table. I told him, "This is an 240Z base" and he had to look at the photos again. "What?" As he looked again he remarked, "Now that I looked again, the rear QTR panel..." see how the viewpoint changes only after you know.

ザーと見ただけでは「2000GT」にしか見えない仕上がりでした。いったい幾らで販売するのか楽しみです。
First impression, it's a "2000GT" - that's how nice it's built. It will be interesting to see how much this will cost.

次は太いDrag Slick Tireの入った NISSAN Fairlady Z, リアタイヤの位置がPerfectですね。
この様な太いタイヤを入れるとなると、どこにタイヤの中心が来るかで車のカッコ良し悪しが決定されてしまうのと、タイヤがBodyの内側に入りすぎないようにするのも大変です。
Next up was the NISSAN Fairlady Z with the thick Drag Slick Tires. The location of the rear tires perfect.
When you put these kind of fat tires on a car it is difficult to find the proper location. Sticking out from the sides won't work and being too far under the fender doesn't have the right look.

このZは良い位置にうまい出具合でタイヤが入っています。
This Z has the right look and its location of the tires are right on.

そしてこんな凄い？Mercedsも。
And then there were these incredible? Mercedes.

歩いていると後ろから「お！このCrownカッコ良い！」って声が聞こえたので1枚撮りましたが、ナゼカッコ良いのかわかりませんでした。
As I was walking I heard someone from behind me say, "Oh! This Toyota Crown is cool!" So I took one photo as I didn't see what was so exciting about it.

Toyota BoothではBrand NewのToyota "IQ" 1000cc 4人乗り、これに4人！凄い！！
昔Mazda Carol 360ccに4人乗った事がありますが、これもその位苦しいのでしょうか？
小さい小さい車に4人乗るのは昭和の再来ですね。
At the Toyota Booth, they had the Brand New Toyota "IQ" 1000cc, 4-person, 4-person?! That's incredible!!
A long time ago we got 4 people to get into a Mazda Carol 360cc which is about that size but I wonder if it is that cramped? To think, a 4-person small car. It's like the second coming of the Showa-era (50s 60s).

そのToyota IQにはMOON DiscみたいなHub Capが！海外のメーカーだと結構MOON Discをそのまま使ってくれるのですが、さすが日本のメーカーは違います。この手の車には履くホイルの選択が難しいのでしょう。
That Toyota IQ had Hub Caps that looked like MOON Discs. Most foreign makers use MOON Discs right out of the box without any problems, but not the Japanese makers. This car actually looks difficult to match a set of wheels with.

いまだにMOON Disc風が多いのは、古くも見えずむしろ未来的にも見えるからでしょうか？
これを僕は「苦しい時のMOON Disc」って言っています。
ホイルの選択に悩んだら、まずMOON Discです。
Even now, MOON Discs are widely used and don't look out of style or old. Instead they can appear to have a futuristic look to them.
I call this, "MOON Discs in hard times" It's if you have difficulty selecting wheels, first start with MOON Discs.

そして楽しいのは中国製の50ccのこの3輪車！販売価格350,000円位だそうです。
Pick UpのBedはかなり激しかったです。でもサンルーフ付きですよ。
A fun-looking vehicle was this China built 50cc three-wheeler! Selling price is 350,000 Yen (about USD $3,500) The Pick Up bed looks exciting. These are come with sun-roof.

最後にラパンベースのChevy C-10 Look Pick Up。これは出来すぎです。
CabinとBedはちゃんと切り離してあるし、全体のフォルムもPerfectですね。
そして正統派はMOON Disc screw on（ネジ止め）です。
このラパン最高！
今年のオートサロンも盛り上がっていました。
And finally, the Suzuki Lapin base Chevy C-10 Look Pick Up. They really went all out on this one. The Cab and bed are separate pieces. The overall flow and form is Perfect too.
Also topped off with MOON Disc Screw Type.
This Lapin is Awesome!
This year's Auto Salon was very exciting.

横浜 フォード

1927年～41年まで横浜それもMOONEYES Area-1のすぐ近くにフォードの横浜工場があったそうです。
There used to be a Ford Assembly Plant in Yokohama, close to MOONEYES Area-1, from 1927 through 1941.

後ろに見えるのがベイブリッジ、右方向が本牧、左方向が東京です
In the background is the Bay Bridge, on the right side is HONMOKU and to the left is TOKYO.

部品はUSAから輸入し日本でノックダウン生産していた工場がこの後ろの建物です。
Parts were imported from the USA and assembled in Japan at a Knockdown Production factory which stood behind this building.

その工場で作られた一台がこの１９３４年型フォード フェートンです。もちろん右ハンドル、キロ表示のメーターです。
One of those vehicles that was built there was this 1934 Ford Phaeton. Of course, being built in Japan, it's right-hand-drive (RHD) and the gauges are in kilometers.

第二次大戦時横浜は空襲で焼け野原になったそうですが　この土地は戦前フォードが持っていた物だったので（戦中は軍に接収されていたそうです）、米軍はやがて来る戦後を考えてか、この地域を空襲しなかったようで、当時の建物がそのまま残っていました。ですからこの建物の面構えはそれとなくＵＳ的ではありませんか？
During WWII, Yokohama was heavily air-raided and burnt to the ground. However, some area survived as this Ford was build on these very grounds before the war (it was supposedly confiscated by the military during the war).Perhaps for post-war reasons there were places that the military did not air-raid, thus some buildings survived and were used again. Maybe that is why this building has a US-look?

その横浜、2009年来年は開港150周年だそうです。
In 2009, next year, the city of Yokohama will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port.

明日は17回目のYokohama Hot Rod・Custom Show 2008

リアタイヤの出かたとフェンダーのカットの仕方、リアをNarrowedにした時の肝ですね。
カッコイイです！ちなみにギャスペダルはＭＱＱＮ製です。
右ハンドルのDrag Race Carを作るならオーストラリアですね！
Not to change the subject but my friend Paul, from Australia, sent me some photos recently of this Toyota Celica.
The way the rear tires are tucked and the method they used to cut the fenders in order to fit the narrowed rear-end is amazing.
It's really cool! By the way, the gas peddle is from MQQN!
If you plan on making a right-hand-drive Drag Race Car, Australia is the place!

ショーまであと10日

昨日　コンテナからUSからの車とバイクを引き出しました。
The cars and motorcycles that were shipped from the US were pulled out of the containers yesterday.
この時期になるとショーが始まるって感じがしてきます。
At this time of year, I always get this feeling inside, like the show is about to begin.

バイクもベンダーブースも過去最高のエントリー数となり会場はパンパンな感じです。
motorcycles and vendor booth entries reached a record high that the show space is mind blowing.

そうです、パンパンと言えばMOONEYES Mail Magazine EditorのTankはパンパンになったほほを押さえ「なぜこんなに？！？！」って感じでボーゼンとしていました
Yes, speaking of mind blowing, MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editor TANK, that handled the floor plan, felt the same way. "How could this be?!?!" Seen here in a daze.

Crown 三昧

19回目のCrown PicnicにHawaiiからKirkがやって来ました。
先日、日本から送ったMS51がHonoluluに到着した画像を貰いましたので皆さんに紹介します。　
Kirk from Hawaii came to the 19th Annual Crown Picnic. He gave me a photo, that I am posting here, of the MS51 (Toyopet/Toyota Crown) that was shipped from Japan, arriving in Honolulu.

彼の住まいはBig IslandなのでまたHonoluluからBig Islandへ車を運ばなければなりません。
気候のよい所に移ればきっと車も長生きできますね。車のためには幸せな事かもしれません。
これから板金、そして登録するそうです。Hawaiiﾌﾟﾚｰﾄが付いたMS51なんてカッコ良さそうですね。
ぜひまた画像を下さい。
He lives on the Big Island so it still needed to be transported from Honolulu to the outer islands.
Living somewhere in a mild climate, I bet the car will last a long time too. It might be for the cars that brings happiness. Now, all it needs is registration and a license plate. It must be really cool to see an MS51 with a Hawaii plate. Anytime, please send me photos!

会場では　MOONEYES/BOYDS Daisy Wheelを履いたCrownを多数見ました。
Daisy復活でしょうか？10種類くらいあったMOONEYES/BOYDS ホイルで今も見られるのは
Daisyだけです。5本スポークホイルはやはり永遠に不滅なのでしょうか？

Could this be a Daisy revival? There were at least 10 different MOONEYES/BOYDS wheel designs but Daisy wheels are all you see today. It seems the 5-spoke wheels are forever immortal. The Daisy wheels match Perfect on the Crown.

こちらの56は仕事のOFFを利用し久しぶりに参加してくれたSさんです。
It's been a long time but Mr. S participated this year in this 56 that he uses only when OFF work.

40系丸テールが3台壮観です。
There were three spectacular Round Tail Model-40s

会場で珍しく真剣な表情のMr. Blue。この不景気、どこかに逃亡でも企てているのでしょうか？
その相談に載るのは高速有鉛Editor。
An unusual appearance at the meeting was Mr. Blue with a serious look on his face. In these hart times, could he be thinking of a plan to escape somewhere?
Up to the task of consulting him was the Kousoku Yuen Editor.

今回のCrown Picnicは、北海道、富山、岐阜、山形とか遠方から沢山の方々が参加してくれました。
来年遂に20回目となるCrown Picnic。今から楽しみです。
This year's Crown Picnic saw many participants from far distances like Hokkaido, Tomiyama, Gifu, Yamagata and more.
Next year's Crown Picnic with be the 20th anniversary and will be exciting.

2008 MOONEYES Catalog

2008 MOONEYES Catalogは　Cruisin' Magazineの別冊となり、名前も「MOON Illustrated　・　ムーン　イラストレイテッド」　に変わり4月25日(金）発売開始です。

東京オートサロンに行ってきました

New Jackets & New Dickies Pantsの金子社長 ⇒Mr. Blueのひとり言

先週末は東京オートサロンでした。感想としてはセリカ、フェアレディーZ、箱スカといった俗に言う国産旧車が結構多かったです。これも時代の流れでしょうか。



MOONEYESも1-JZ換装のクラウンMS50セダンを展示したので、今年は少しは流れに乗れた感じでした。

沢山の車が展示される中、夢があったのは静岡工科自動車大学校の生徒さん達が製作した、マツダキャロルベースにカスタムされた「紲-KIZUNA」でした。



日本自動車大学校（NATS） ブースに展示されていたNISSAN 720 トラックのボンネットには何と！Truck Mastersの記念Tシャツまで飾られ、主催のBlue Panic 金子社長の喜びようと言ったらありませんでした。



その他、会場で気になったのは　ホンダ バモス ベースのStep Vanにそっくりなポケットバン。


日産 ラシーン ベースのハマーならぬLummern H4、よく出来てますね。


そしてスズキ ラパン ベースのChevy Suburban LOOK、これもよく出来ていました。K-carは楽しいですね！


Last weekend was Tokyo Auto Salon. My impression was that many of those called Japanese Domestic Classics called as JDC like Toyota Celica, Nissan Farilady Z and Nissan Skyline called "Hako-Ska" in Japanese were displayed inside the show. May be this is due to current popularity of the JDC style.

MOONEYES had late Toyota's Twin Camed 1JZ Motor swapped Sleeper 1970 Toyota CROWN MS50 Sedan displayed so felt like was on the current move this year.

Among many cars in display, ones with Dreams were the 1960 something Mazda Carol based Hot Rod called "Kizuna" build by students of Shizuoka Professional College of Automobile Technology.

At booth of Nihon Automobile Technology School(NATS), very surprised to find Nissan 720 Mini Truck which had "Truck Masters" Special Show T-shirts displayed on hood, and how happy the president of Blue Panic Mr. Kaneko who is the organizer of Truck Master was well more than anyone expected.

Other than that was HONDA Vamos based "Pocket Van" look a like Old HONDA Step Van.

NISSAN Lasheen based "Lummern H4" look a like Hummer, build very well.

And SUZUKI Lapin based Chevy Suburban LOOK, This was build very well too. K-cars(Japanese Small Cars) are fun too!

左ハンドル 1970 Toyota Crown Van 1-JZ Motor 換装 完成

左ハンドルのクラウンにも1-JZ換装しました。元々はマニュアルフロアシフトでパワステ（PS)無し、クーラーも無しの仕様でした。



左ハンドル車は多分構造上の問題からベンチシートでもフロアシフトが多く、クラウンを望む人は比較的コラムシフト希望が多いのでそれをコラムATに変更し、更にPSも装着しました。エンジンの構造上、左側にエキゾーストやインテークがきているので、PS ポンプやコラムシフト用のブラケット等の装着が可能かどうか、かなり苦労しましたが、この通りまったく問題無く収まり、まるでノーマル車の様な出来上がりです。



クーラーは今回、国産製左ハンドル対応のユニットを試してみました。これで左ハンドルにも問題なく対応出来るので、輸入クラウンでもラクラクドライブが可能となりました。今は右ハンドルのバンを製作中です。　その次にもう一台、左ハンドルワゴン（販売車）が製作に入ります。今ならこの左ハンドルワゴンを希望のクルマに仕上げる事も出来ますので、興味のある方はCrown Classicsまでご連絡下さい。

Funny car that's too fast for beginners to take a picture, like me.
1JZ Motor swap was done on Left Hand Drive 1970 CROWN too. It was originally the manual floor shift without power steering and no cooler.

Many Left Hand Drive ROWN came with floor shift even with bench seat as left side wheeling probably caused problem for structure and linkage. Since most people who want to own CROWN in Japan prefer column shift, this one was equipped with AT on COLUMN with power steering. As motor is design with exhaust and intake on left side, having all extra component like power steering pump and column shift bracket was questionable and was a real task but managed to fit all in and looked like originally equipped.

The domestic A/C unit for left side steering was used this time. This first Left Hand Drive CROWN is completed and made it clear that imported CROWN can be also made in to comfortable driver. Now we have Right Hand Drive 1969 Crown Stationwagon is under process. The left hand drive wagon MS53(for sale) is on the way after that. Now we can still make this left hand drive wagon MS53 to desired specs, so please feel free to ask CROWN Classics about it if you have interest.

カリフォルニアの日本車旧車、620や510そして・・・

10月6日（土）はCalifornia Long Beachで"3rd Annual カリフォルニア旧車集会 Japanese Classic Car Show(JCCS)"が開催されました。

今年も沢山の旧車がエントリーしていました。320、520、521、620とDatsun Pick Upも沢山エントリーしていたのですが、その中で気持ちよかったのが620の集団でした。

この620ですが四角のヘッドライト、グリル、ホイル、ミラー、バブルウィンドウ、5ピースのフレアーセット、トラクションバーに太いリアタイヤ、でもフロントタイヤは細い、70年代Truckin'を忠実に再現しています。このスタイルには青空しか似合いませんね、それもカリフォルニアの空でないと駄目です。


この620はアリゾナバンパーですが良い感じですし、テールゲートのDATSUNと青い空が70年代しています。


CB450が一台ポツンとありますがこれもいいですね。日本製の古いのはいいですね。


320は昔のCalとか読んでいるのでしょうか？何となく日本の香りがするカスタムが施されていました。CalはUSAのこの手の車マニアの間では結構人気があるそうです。


日本車が見直され、古い日本車も注目を集めるようになり、Calが散々扱って来た日本車カスタムも注目されたり、他誌ではありますがオーバーフェンダー、オイルクーラーをグリルに取り付け、八の字をきったリアタイヤの日本車カスタムなどが同様に注目され、今回のイベントでもローレルやスカイラインが日本から輸入され、出展されていました。日本特有のカスタムが海の向こうに渡るのは分かる気もしますが、僕らの「日本車をUSA風のカスタムしましょう」がUSAで見られるのも何とも変な気持ちがします。


この2台の510ワゴンはまさしく日本風カスタムではないでしょうか？ホワイトリボンにブレットセンターキャップ、そしてClay Smith Cams ステッカーのこの510。


そしてもう一台もスキニーホワイトリボンタイヤ、ダイスドアロックノブ、グラントハンドルにGT500ミラー、そしてMOONステッカーです。ありがとう！


BRE仕様やSCCAに代表されるサーキットレース風に仕上げられる事が多い510ですが、このナローデフの510は珍しいです。


昔のUSA的な香りが一番したのがMazda車です。RX2、RX3とか名前で呼ばれなかったのも理由かもしれませんが、僕はRX2（カペラ）が好きな一台です。


このロータリートラックもどんな走りをするのか興味あります。今、どういう訳かMazda旧車はこの様に大径ホイルを履いたスタイルがＬＡでは流行っているようです。


最後に、Wildmanの手により製作されたMOON Discは、この日のBest of Showを獲ったセリカのオーナーに渡されました。数年前はUSAから沢山のUSA車が日本に輸入されましたが　これからは日本車旧車が海を渡りUSAに行くのでしょうか？車は世界を廻りますね。


Saturday October 6th the 3rd Annual California Classic Domestic gathering, The Japanese Classic Car Show (JCCS) was hosted in Long beach California.

There were many classics showed up again this year with 320, 520, 521, 620 DATSUN Pick Ups and group of 620 looked nice.

This 620 has quad square head lights, custom grill, wheel, mirror, bubble window, 5 piece flare set traction bar and wide tires but narrow on front, recreation of the true 70s' trucking style. This style looks good with blue sky and must be California sky.

This 620 has Arizona bumper but it looks good, DATSUN on tail gate and blue sky is appealing the 70s'. One CB450 was left alone. Old Japanese made looks good. 320 may be reading old Japanese custom magazine called "Cal" it has Japanese taste custom. "Cal" magazine is getting popular to these manias in USA.

Japanese cars are now getting attention, especially the old classics and Japanese car customs which cal had been taken for years are now starting to get attention, and in other magazine Flares, oil cooler on grill, Rear tires spread low with faces up (called HACHINOJI in Japanese as it looks the way they write Eight/Hachi) are also getting attention too. In this show NISSAN Laurel and Skyline (both were never imported to USA) which were imported from Japan currently were on display. The original Japanese custom has now gone to overseas which is understandable but it was our "make Japanese cars look like US cars custom" are now seen in US which is pretty nice thing for me.

These two 510 wagon is really taking Japanese taste custom. White ribbon tires with bullet center cap, Clay Smith Cams sticker on this 510 and other one has skinny white ribbon tire, dice door lock knob, Grant steering wheel, GT500 mirror, and this MOON Stickers. Thank you!

BRE and SCCS Circuit Race looks are popular way for 510 finish in US but this narrowed 510 is rare way of finishing. Mazda look most like American cars among old cars. May be one of reason is it was called by RX2, RX3 without name and just numbers but RX2 is the most one I like. This rotary truck is interesting to see how it runs. Some how, the Mazda classics in USA seems to have large wheel in style for now. Lastly the MOON Disc pin striped by Wildman went to owner of this TOYOTA Celica. Couple years ago many American cars crossed ocean to Japan but may be Japanese classic cars are crossing ocean to be imported by USA from now. Cars go around the World!

3台目の1-JZ換装車は左ハンドルのクラウンバン

明日、東京お台場で開催のALL ODDS Nationalsに向けて製作中の1-JZ換装のクラウンバンです。

この車は左ハンドルでフロアの3速だった為、それをコラムATに変更し、さらにパワーステアリングに対応する為、ステアリングギアボックス等も左ハンドルに使える物を調達するなど、


色々試練がありましたが、


何とか格好も付いてきました。勿論AC付きです。


このブログを書いている時点ではまだ完成していないので、完成車の画像をアップできませんが、ショー会場では見れる事でしょう。楽しみですね。では、ショー会場でお会いしましょう。

This is 1-JZ swapped 1970 Toyota Crown Van LHD which we are making for All Odds Nationals on tomorrow, in Tokyo Odaiba. This one was hard one with left side steering with floor 3 speed, which were changed to column AT with power steering and different gear box and finally got to shape. AC is already equipped too. It is not complete while I am writing this blog so can't have picture of completed car but should be able to see it at the Show. Something to look forward to. See you at the show!

The 3rd Crown Party

先週、トヨタ博物館に行ったのも、MAX's Yardにお邪魔したのも、実は"The 3rd Crown Party"という1967年から70年までの3代目クラウン MS50系のMeetingがトヨタ博物館の駐車場で、MS50 クラウン・オーナーズ・クラブの主催で開催されたからです。

朝、Crown Pick Up 1-JZ換装の高速有鉛号と一緒に走りましたが、この車、速い事を良い事に、友人の黄色のノーマル ピックアップをぶっちぎり、飛ばす、飛ばす。


とうとう最後まで高速有鉛号の前に出る事が出来なかった為、残念ながら後方からの画像しか撮れませんでした。


決して綺麗ではありませんが、このピックを見たら要注意です。君はこの角度からしかこの車を見れないかもしれませんよ。


当日は雨は激しく降ったり、やんだりと不安定な天候にも関わらず、30台近いMS50系が集まったのでした。会場は名古屋ですから東京からでも結構距離があり、40年近く前の車には厳しい距離、しかも悪天候と参加者のガッツを感じたイベントでした。



久しぶりにDr. 前原のクラウンワゴンも見ることが出来ました。Dr.も車もお元気そうでなによりです。今度は10月28日（日） Crown Picnicで集まりましょう！その前に、9月30日（日）はALL ODDS Nationalsをお台場で開催します！



"The 3rd Crown Party"
Last week I went to TOYOTA Museum and Max's yard because I was there to "The Third Generation Toyota Crown Party" was hosted for 1967 to 1970 Third Model TOYOTA Crown by MS50's Owners Club at parking lot of TOYOTA Museum. In the morning cruised with 1-JZ swapped 1970 TOYOTA Crown pick up owned by "KOUSOKU-YUEN" magazine was fast and left original drive train yellow TOYOTA Crown Pick Up owned by friend behind and never had chance to take a picture from front so there is only rear view picture. This is not clean one but be careful when you see this one. You may not be able to see other angle of this car.

It was raining on and off with unstable weather but 30 MS50 series TOYOTA Crown had gathered. The event was held in central Japan Nagoya so it was far from east side Tokyo to drive the 40 years old cars but in bad weather the owner showed there will to join the event. I saw Dr. Maehara's Crown Stationwagon which I haven't seen for while and grad to see that car and Dr. were looking well. Next see you all at Crown Picnic on Sunday October 28th. But before that we have ALL ODDS Nationals on Sunday September 30th.

トヨタ博物館

Max君の広場を見た後、トヨタ博物館にも行ってきました。

トヨタ博物館というとトヨタ車しか展示していないように思いますが、さすがトヨタの博物館です。トヨタ車は勿論、外車もあればライバルの日本車もしっかり展示してあって、内容が濃いです。2Fは外車が中心ですが、3Fは日本車中心。1936年 トヨタAB型フェートンから始まり、1943年 AC型乗用車、1938年 日産70型フェートンも展示されていました。



戦後に入り、どことなく北欧の香りがしないでもない1953年 トヨペットスーパーRHN型、


クラウンの初期モデルの1995年 トヨペットクラウンRS型、RSD型、


そしてタクシー向けに作られたトヨペットマスターRR型、


コロナの初期モデル 1957年 トヨペットコロナ ST10とか、


1958年 北米に初めて輸出されたトヨペットクラウンRS-L型。USAのマーケットではパワー不足が露見し一時輸出を断念せざる得なかったという今では考えられない話ですが、これはその当時に輸出された車だそうです。


今年、アメリカトヨタは50周年。友人がこんな貴重な記念Bookをくれました。


KIKKOMANも50周年という事で記念Soy Sauceを販売しています。


僕の一番すきなクラウンは通称 "涙テール"と呼ばれる1962年型RS41。


クラウンエイトがないのがちょっと寂しいですが、その後継車のセンチュリー。そしてそのセンチュリーに搭載されていたのがこのHemi Head V-8。USAでもこのHemiは一部マニアに人気があり、このMotorを使ってStreet Rodを製作している人もいるくらいです。Hemiというだけで価値が違うのです。


「フルチョイスカー」という触込みで発売された通称 ワンテールの初期型セリカや、有名な2000GT。空冷エンジンを積んだToyota Sports 800。


何よりも嬉しいのは1970年代、Cam Am出場を前提に造られたというTurbo無しとTurbo付きのTOYOTA 7が展示されている事です。


最高にカッコいいです。最近になってやっと日本でも、昔のレースカー等を走れる状態でレストアする事が盛んになってきましたが、あまりにも時間が経ちすぎているので、無くなってしまったレースカーは沢山あると思います。HINO SamuraiもCaliforniaのどこかに眠っているという話ですし、往年のレースカーが復活するのは嬉しい事です。日本も心にゆとりが出てきたという事でしょうか。


隣のビルに行くと今度は生活に密着した商業車が展示されています。商業車はその性質上、使い終われば廃車されてしまうのが殆どですが、デザインは乗用車以上に奇抜な車が多いと思います。この1956年 マスターラインバンや、


1953年 SG トラック、


1959年トヨエースと消防車、


1950年製の薪を焚いて走る「薪トラック」とか、奇抜ですよね。


最後に、戦前 フォードは横浜で、シボレーは大阪で車を生産していたのはご存知でしたか？フォードは1925年創業開始、これは1929年に横浜工場で造られたモデルAです。


シボレーは1927年に大阪で始まり、このフェートンは1931年製です。


勿論右ハンドル、MOONEYESにも横浜工場製の1934年 Ford Phaetonがありました。


今年のヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタム ショー 2007には横浜工場製の1932年Ford "Deuce" Pick Upが展示される予定です。Toyota博物館はこの他にライブラリーもあり、車関係の貴重な資料や本やらが沢山あって、本当に凄いところでした。さすが世界のTOYOTAです。

"TOYOTA Museum"
After looking at MAX's yard, went to the TOYOTA Museum.

The TOYOTA Museum sounds like only TOYOTA cars are exhibited but that's TOYOTA there were great line up of imported cars and other domestic rival brand cars exhibited inside which really makes this Museum a valuable one. Second floor is mainly imported cars and Third floor is Japanese cars, starting from 1936 TOYOTA AB type Phaeton, 1943 TOYOTA AB type Sedan and 1938 NISSAN 70 style Phaeton was in line up too.

They were all pre war cars. After war period begun and with some what like Scandinavian taste 1953 TOYOPET SUPER RHN style, CROWN first model 1953 TOYOPET CROWN RS style, RSD style, TOYOPET MASTER RR style made for TAXI, CORONA first model 1957 TOYOPET CORONA ST10, 1958 first exported to USA TOYOPET CROWN RS-L style, not enough power was its problem in USA and decided to stop export, which is unbelievable for now but this car was the export model of that time. This year TOYOTA has 50th anniversary in USA and my friend gave me this anniversary book. KIKKOMAN has 50 years anniversary too and anniversary soy sauce are sold now.

My most favorite CROWN is so called "Tear Drop Tail Lamp" 1962 RS41, sad that CROWN eight was not there, but the later model CENTURY had this Hemi Head V-8, this Hemi is popular among the Hemi manias in USA and some people make Street Rod using this motor. HEMI makes different values.

"Full Choice Car" was the catch phrase when this "Single Tail Lamp" first model CELICA, famous 2000 GT, air cooled TOYOTA Sports 800, very please to see the 1970 TOYOTA 7 with Turbo and without Turbo tried to race on Cam Am Race in 1970s, but couldn't make it. Very cool. Now days even in Japan the old race cars are restored to run as they were, which is getting very popular but too many hours and times passed by so there are many race cars that were gone. 1967 HINO SAMURAI is said to be somewhere in California and great old days race cars return is really pleasing to see. May be Japan has some better business economy.

The building next one has life style oriented business and company used cars. Commercial vehicles are usually through away after use for 10years(depreciation) or so, but some designs are eccentric than passenger cars. This 1956 Master line Light Van(Wagon), 1953 SG Truck, 1959 TOYOACE, and fire station vehicle, 1950 fire wood selling car firewood truck, eccentric isn't it?

Lastly did you know Ford build cars in Japan before War in Yokohama and Chevrolet build cars in Osaka? Ford founded in 1925, this is 1929 Model A build in Yokohama factory. Chevrolet started in Osaka on 1927 and this Phaeton was made in 1931. Of course it was right hand drive, MOONEYES had 1934 YOKOHAMA build Ford Phaeton.

This year's YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007, The 1932 YOKOHAMA build Ford "Deuce" Pick Up Will be exhibited at the show. TOYOTA Museum had library and other important information and sources and was really amazing place. That's World TOYOTA.

Super Weekend 長野

長野市の元オリンピック施設 M-Waveで開催された、Flat Head主催のSuper Weekendに行ってきました。（敬称略）


30年位前は電車でも4時間、車だったら6-7時間位は掛かったでしょうか。昔、クラウンでスキーに行った時、スピンして雪の壁にぶつかったのを覚えています。今は東京駅から長野まで新幹線で2時間、車だと4時間位。近くなりました。

さて何十年振りかの長野です。多分30年以上かな？その長野でインドア カーショーが開催されたのは昨年、今年で2回目です。

"Super Weekend 2007"
I went to City of Nagano last weekend where car show called "Super Weekend 2007" was held by Flat Head at X-Winter Olympic facility called "M-Wave". I've never been in Nagano since when I was in University which is about 30 some years ago. I used to go there for skiing almost every winter, because ski was very popular back then like snowboard now. It took about 4 hours by train and 6 to 7 hours by car to get Nagano back then. Narrow one lane road always up to Nagano, it's almost impossible to pass the car ahead of you. It was long, long and slow move traffic. I still remember that I took my 1970 Toyota Crown and crash into snow wall. Now, it only takes 2 hours by bullet train and about 4 hours on highway by car.

It was 2nd Annual Show this year and it is very interesting to having car show in this area. Because there is no big car show in Nagano before this show was held in 2006. Show Cars, Motorcycles, Bands, Raffles, a lots vendor booths and awards, it was great show. Thanks to Flat Head! Hope, we can see you again at Nagano in 2008!

Finlandの日本車達

先導役をしてくれたMr. & Mrs. Mikaelと彼らのクラウン

先週末、ムーミンの国 Finlandで開催された日本車のイベントに行ってきました。一年の半分以上は雪があり、また夏には太陽の沈まない白夜になり、冬には太陽がまったく昇らない地域もあるというFinland、人々は7月・8月に思いっきり夏を楽しむそうです。

雪が多いので車には条件が良くありませんが、古い日本車を見ることが出来るのがここFinlandです。日本の自動車会社は昔から世界中に車を輸出していたのですね。1960年代に日本製品を世界に売り歩いた日本人セールスマンは大変だった思います。

来週水曜日のブログでは、FinlandのHot Rodderを紹介します。お楽しみに！

The Japanese cars in Finland
Last weekend went to the Japanese car show in Moomin's country Finland. They have snow in half of a year, sun doesn't go down in summer and some has no sun in winter the people in Finland is said to enjoy summer in July and August.

The too much snow is not good for cars but old Japanese cars can be seen in Finland. The Japanese car makers were exporting cars through out the world from old days. I think Japanese sales men who went across the world in 1960's to sell Japanese products must have been very hard. On next Wednesday's Blog I will introduce "Finland" Hot Rodders.

第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007

12月2日(日)に開催される第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007(HCS)の内容がおおよそ決まりました。


USAからKennedy Brothers製作の32年 Devile Deuce。


Classic Trucks Magazine編集長であり、HCSの開催にいつも多大な協力をしてくれているRob Fortieの愛車で、Cole Foster制作のChopped 53 Chevy。



南カリフォルニアのバイクシーンに新たなシーンを作り、East LAにShopを構えるSuperco CustomsのTrevelen。
Super Co. Customs Trevelen's KIWI Indian "CRAZY HORSE"は、諸事情により展示不可能となりました。ご了承下さい。

関西弁が冴えまくり、USAのTV等で大変人気のあるChica Custom CyclesのChica。


Cole Fosterも彼の最新作「MOON Rocket」を持ち込み、


2年前に来日したKutty。

3回目の来日となるJeff Decker、そしてChoppertown DVDの中で主人公的役柄のRico、Danny Takahashi君も遊びに来るそうですから、Sinnersの中心的メンバーがヨコハマに集合って感じになるようです。



アーテイストではLine Dr.、Keith Weesner、Pizz、Harpoon、Dan Colins（？）、アルミ職人のRon Covel、AustraliaからTikiのカービングをするTiki Beat-Marcosも参加します。Trophy QueenやDicE Magazineも来ますし、ヨーロッパからはWild Motorcyclesも来日予定です。今の段階では以上ですが、日が経つにつれ話がどんどん膨れていくので、10月くらいまではハッキリした内容が確定できないのが毎年の事なのです。世界からナゼか注目される日本のショー、今年もきっと楽しくなるでしょう。HCS情報はMOONEYES WebsiteでUpされますのでマメにチェックして下さい。

The 16th Annual Yokohama HOTROD CUSTOM SHOW 2007(HCS) will be hosted on Sunday December 2nd and almost all contents has been fixed.

The Trevelen from Superco Customs. who has shop in East L.A., and Making new Scene in the Southern California Motorcycle scene. Chica from Chica Custom Cycles with dry West Japan accent and popular from the TV program in USA.

Cole Foster will bring his brand new bike called "MOON Rocket", Kutty who was here 2 years ago, Third time for Jeff Decker, first time for Rico who is one of main feature from the Choppertown DVD, Danny Takahashi will be here too, so all core members of "Sinners" will meet up in Yokohama.

Artists are Line Dr., Keith Weesner, Pizz, Harpoon, Dan Colins(?), Aluminum craft man Ron Covel, Tiki Beat - Marcos for Tiki Carving will be here from Australia. Trophy Queen and DicE Magazine will be here too. Wild Motorcycles from Europe will be here too.

That's all for now, but usually gets increased as the day goes by, so we can not say for sure until October. For some reason this show in Japan is getting a lot of attention from all over the world. 何で6月で冬？南半球は日本の夏が冬、でもGold Coastは暖かくてBlue SkyにPalm Tree、そしてBeach。Californiaみたいなんです。そのGold CoastでショーとDrag Raceが一度に同じ週末に開催されるので、ファンにとっては絶対にミスできない週末です。

USA車の多さにびっくりしますが、USA4ドアはオーストラリア国内でノックダウンされた車も多くあるようです。それらはちゃんと右ハンドルでも左側にコラムシフトレバー、そしてウインカーレバーが右側にあります。しかし右ハンドルでもウインカーレバーが左側にあり、コラムシフトレバーが右側にあるのがUSAから個人輸入され、右ハンドルにコンバートされた車だと勝手に解釈しています。日本ではお目にか掛かれない車がカスタムされていたり、Hot Rodになっていたり、楽しいですよ。欧州車好きな日本の人の誰がボックスホールがKustomされると思いますか？！環境が違えば何でもKustomの対象になるってことですね。

日本車のDrag Race Carが見たくてWillowbank Racewayで開催されたWinter Nationalsに行きました。行った日が決勝戦の日でしたので大多数の予選落ちた車はすでにピットをあとにしていたのですが、10.19秒で走るというこのハイラックスを見れたのが最大の収穫でした。

"Australia Gold Coast Car Show & Drag Race."
I went to the Gold Coast where I haven't been there for a long time. The Wintersun Cruise is the car show event at Coolangatta beach in Gold Coast Australia, why winter in June? That's because Australia is in southern hemisphere but even in winter Gold Coast is warm with blue sky, palm trees and beach just like in California. That Gold Coast has Show and Drag Race on same weekend so it something not to be missed for funs.

Surprised to see so many USA cars, the old USA four door cars were made in Australia as knock down. They have handle on right side and column on the left side and winkers on right. I am guessing that there are private import cars converted from left handle which has shift on right side and winkers on left. There are cars that we don't usually see in Japan and they were customized or made into Hot Rod and its fun to see. Vauxhall, England car is not Kustomised in the Japan as only they have image of Euro car only. When background changes anything can be base for customizing.

I wanted to see Drag Race Car and went to the Winter Nationals at Willowbank Raceway but it was final day the elimination was held and many cars probably dropped before finals and this Toyota Hilux mini truck was there which runs on 10.19 seconds. That was great to see, Japanese base car Drag race machine is really cool isn't it.

オーストラリア Gold CoastのToyota Day

3年ぶりにオーストラリア ゴールド コーストで開催されているToyota Dayに行ってきました。このToyota Dayが開催される週末、Gold CoastではWintersunというCar Showもあり、Drag RaceのWinter Nationalsもあり、ショー、レース&トヨタが見られる非常に効率的なWeekendなのです。Gold CoastのHot Rod関係の知り合いには「明日はトヨタに行くのか」とかちょっと変な奴に思われているような（サイコ？）ニュアンスで言われるのが毎回気になりますが、今日のブログではToyota Dayに触れたいと思います。

コロナ好きが開催しているToyota Dayですが、なぜか今回はクラウンが多く、オーストラリア現地生産の50系セダンが2台、50前期ワゴン2台、後期ワゴン1台、50後期ピックアップ1台、それに60系（クジラ）が3台も参加していたのですが40系が一台も無く、ちょっと寂しかったです。しかし、カローラやコロナ、特にコロナは大好きな1台 HTのSが来ていました。

"Toyota Day in Gold Coast in Australia"
With 3 years of blank, I went to the Toyota Day in Gold Coast, Australia. This Weekend when Toyota Day was hosted, Gold Coast has Car Show called Wintersun Cruise and Drag Race called Winter Nationals, Yes, Australia is Winter now. And Its very efficient as Show, Race and Toyota can be seen. Gold Coast Hot Rod People I know of will ask "Are you going to Toyota Day Tomorrow?" which sounds like asking to some strange behavior (Psycho?) makes me anxious about, anyway I wanted to write about Toyota Day for today's Blog.

Toyota Day is hosted for like of Corona but this time many Crown was there, 2 of Australian manufactured 50 series sedan, 2 of 50 series early model Stationwagon, 1 of 50 series late model Stationwagon, 1 of 50 series late model Pick up and 3 of 60 series KUJIRA Crown but none of 40 series were there which was little sad, Carolla and Corona were there specially the Corona, There was a 1600 HT "S" there which is one of my favorite.

The Location was in Australia Toyota Dealer and Training Center for mechanics teaching place was open to show, It was a "World's Toyota".

It was coincidence that we had Australian manufactured Toyota "Aurion" for rent a car which was new and great car to drive and driver Goshu had received a ticket for speeding.

第11回 Hot Stuff主催 鈴鹿ストリートカーナショナルズ

先週日曜日はHot Stuff主催 第11回ストリートカーナショナルズ（SCN）でした。MOONEYESのSCNは今年で21回目、北海道のSCNは第11回目です。昔は大阪SCNや九州SCNもありましたが、残念ながら今はありません。Truck Mastersは横浜のMr. Blue率いるBlue Panicが全国で開催していますが、SCNはそれぞれの地域のMOONEYES Dealerｓが主催で開催されています。 あ！明日はTruck Masters 北海道です！近郊の方、是非 岩見沢へお出かけ下さい。

今年の鈴鹿SCNはエントリー台数 なんと700台オーバー！また、エントリー車の内容が大変濃い素晴らしいイベントでした。今回はその素晴らしいイベントにエントリーしていた日本車を紹介します。そしてMOONEYESアワードに輝いたのは、Speed Shop Fix製作のRBモーター換装、オーナー河尻さんの1968 グロリアバンでした。ストレートなBody、綺麗な内装、そしてエンジン換装、クルマは綺麗でなくては、っていうお手本のようなグロリアです。やはりクルマは光っているのが一番ですね！

今日はカナダからPoor Boys Car Club, CanadaのMr. Craman Hetherington氏が電車・バスを乗り継いで来店してくださいました。


The 11th Hot Stuff host Suzuka Street Car Nationals
Last Sunday was the Hot Stuff hosted the 11th Suzuka Street Car Nationals(SCN). MOONEYES SCN was 21st time this year and Hokkaido SCN was 11th time this year. There used to be Osaka SCN and Kyushu SCN, before but too bad they don't have them anymore. Truck Masters is hosted across Japan by Blue Panic lead by Mr. Blue but SCN is hosted by local MOONEYES Dealer. Tomorrow is Truck Masters in Hokkaido North side. For people close by please join at Iwamizawa.

This years Suzuka SCN had 700 over Show car entry, and content of entry cars were great. I want to introduce the Domestic cars which had entry to the show. The MOONEYES Award went to Speed Shop Fix made RB motor swapped 1968 Gloria Van owned by Mr. kawajiri. This Gloria has straight body, beautiful interior, swapped motor. This Gloria is like text to show how cars should be clean. Always cars are best when they are shiny and beautiful.

Today Mr. Craman Hetherington of Poor Boys Car Club, Canada has visited us from Canada using train and bus to the MOONEYES Area-1!

クラウン そして Mr. ブルー

前回のブログでお話しましたが、1970 MS50 Crown Sedanと1970 RS56 Crown Pick UpでSCN鈴鹿に行って来ました。まったく調子が良い！トラブルなし！絶好調でした。



「古いエンジンが好きなのではなかったのですか？」とか「エンジン交換してしまったら、味が無くなるのではありませんか？」とか会場で色々質問を受けましたが、古いエンジンも好きですし、今でも充分クラウンの味はあります。僕はもう30年以上もM型モーターやR型に乗っているのです。30年です。もう充分どちらのモーターも楽しみました。でもクラウンをもっと楽しみたいので、エンジンを換装したのです。クラウンの昔の広告で「いつかはクラウン」ってありましたが、「いつでもクラウン」になる為にです。もしそのままのエンジンだったら「たまにはクラウン」で、毎日乗りたくはありません。末永く乗り続ける為にはダッシュ等に余計な物を付けてしまわない事です。そして「いつまでもクラウン」でいる為に　内装や外装はオリジナルを保つのが一番です。


Mr. Blue

今回の鈴鹿へは横浜 戸塚最大の自動車センター＆トラックマスターズの主催者、ブルーパニックのMr. ブルーこと金子社長が同乗。ピックアップの走行写真等を撮りたかったので運転を交代してもらったり大変助かりました。
鈴鹿周辺のホテルに無事到着し、全員でチェックイン手続きをしているといきなりMr. ブルー、「さっきまであったハンズフリーのイヤーフォンが無い！」と騒ぎ出し、駐車場からクルマの中まで調べてもどこにもありません。本人は「100円ショップで買える」とかいいながら意外と往生際が悪い。がその晩は諦めたようでした。
翌朝、「イヤーフォンどうした？」って尋ねると、Mr. ブルーは恥ずかしそうに「ありました」。「どこに？」と聞いたらなんと自分の靴の靴紐にくっ付いていた！というではありませんか。靴を脱ごうと靴紐を解こうとしても解けないので良く見たらイヤーフォンが靴紐に絡まっていたというのです。本当ですかね。

まぁ、これだけでは信じられないでしょうからもう一つ。これを読めば、イヤーフォンの件もあってもおかしくないと思います。ある晩、MOON Cafeに来店したMr. ブルー、2人で話しているうちにMr. ブルーの歯が抜けている事を発見。「Mr. ブルー、歯が抜けているよ」と教えると「運転中は確かにあった」と言うので、駐車場とか歩いた後を探してみたがその時は見つけられませんでした。食事も終わりMr. ブルーがクルマに乗り込む瞬間、シートベルトに歯がはさまっているのを発見！普通の人はシートベルトに歯をはさみませんよね、だからイヤーフォンが靴紐に絡まっても、Mr. ブルーの場合、何も不思議な事ではないのです。だから僕は彼を尊敬の念を持って「Mr. Blue」と呼んでいます（その時彼はブリッジの歯を付けていました）。

CrownとMr. Blueの話でした。

As I have mentioned in last Blog, went to Street Car Nationals in Suzuka, Central Japan with 1970 TOYOTA MS50 Crown Sedan and 1970 TOYOTA RS56 Crown Pick Up. Very Good condition and non trouble excellent ride.

"Didn't you like the old engine?" or "Its not same ride with different newer engine?" there were many questions asked in event place but I like old engine and still it is same ride of Crown style. I have been driving "M" and "R" engines for more than thirty years now. I think I have enough enjoyed both engine. But I still like to enjoy Crown so I swapped engine. The old advertisement of Crown said "Someday Crown" and to be able to say "Any day Crown". If I had old engine it will be "sometime Crown" and do not want to drive everyday. To drive it for almost forever, it is best not to add anything to dash and surrounding. Also its best to keep the original interior and exterior to "Forever Crown".

This time to Suzuka, Yokohama's largest second hand truck center and world famous Truck Masters event host "Blue Panic" president Mr. Kaneko as known Mr. Blue was on same ride, I wanted to take pictures of Pick up driving and he was great help driving while I was taking pictures. Then when we reached hotel in Suzuka while everyone was checking in, all sudden Mr. Blue has started to panic saying "I have lost the ear phone!" It's a hands free for cell phone. And searched inside car and parking lot but it was not found. He said he bought it at 99 cents shop but didn't seem to let go. And he gave up that night. Next morning I asked, "what happened to the ear phone?", He said "I found it" with little brushed. Asked him where and he said it was tangled in his shoe lace. He couldn't get shoe off as lace was tangled but it was ear phone tangled, now is that true? Its ify and may be if I tell another story people may believe this things can happen to Mr. Blue.

One night Mr. Blue came to MOON Cafe, while we were talking I noticed his side tooth was missing, "Mr. Blue, you are missing a tooth.". I told him and he says "It was there while I was driving!". So he walked back to parking lot to look for his tooth but wasn't able to find. Then after eating dinner, Mr. Blue got on the car and just then, a missing tooth was found, it was stacked to his seat belt. The ordinary people will not have tooth tangled to seat belt so for Mr. Blue its no surprise to find ear phone tangled to shoe laces. That's why I have decided to call him Mr. Blue with very respect(he had bridged tooth).

It was story about Crown and Mr. Blue.

1970 Toyota Crown RS56 Pick Up

1-JZ Motor換装のRS56 Pick Upが完成しました。


仕様的にはMS50セダンと同じですが、今回の車の課題はマニュアルコラムシフト車のコラムシフトをそのままAT用に活かすのとクーラーを取り付ける事でした。


特にクーラーは吊り下げではなく、オリジナルのベンチレーションをそのまま使い、しかもユニットが目立たないUSAのVintage Air社の物をトライしてみたところ、ご覧のようにダッシュの中に納まり、純正みたいになりました。


このユニットはヒーター、クーラー、デフロスター等も付いているので、この様な車にはぴったりの優れた製品です。今週土曜日、MS50セダンと2台で鈴鹿SCNへ自走して行き、調子を見る予定です。詳しいインプレッションは次回のブログで報告します。

1970 Toyota Crown RS56 Pick Up "
The Toyota Crown RS56 Pick Up with swapped 1-JZ Motor has been completed.
The specs are same as Crown Sedan MS50, but this time issue was to make AT trans shift on column using manual shift on column and adding A/C. Especially the A/C is not huge hanging type, using original ventilation and by using USA vintage air compact unit, like in picture [ 1 / 2 ] unit fits under dash and looks like stock. This unit has heater, A/C and defroster so its great products for this type of car. This Saturday, we will take this Toyota Crown Pick Up for long cruise to Suzuka central Japan with Crown MS50 Sedan for Suzuka Street Car Nationals and check how it will run. I will report on impression with detail in next issue of blog.

真っ青な空、綺麗な緑、野鳥のさえずり。そんなすばらしい環境で開催された"ナカヨシ Hot Old's Meet"に行ってきました。

天気は快晴。Mt. Fujiもキレイです。

途中でVannuysグループと合流。会場へ向かいます。

事前エントリーでは無く、当日エントリーのみの受付でカーショー500台、スワップミート100件で会場へのエントリーはストップ、主催者の方が放送で「僕ら、広々とやりたいので制限台数で入場をストップしました」と言っていました。なんとも耳が痛い話でしたが、さすがおっしゃる通りゆっくりしたスペースで一日を過ごす事ができました。


高速有鉛の影響もあるのか、国産旧車はパワーがあり、年式を問わず多くのクルマが参加していました。その中でやはり気になったのはクラウン、それも丸テールのセダンとバンです。メッキがビシッ！としているとクルマは生き返りますね。

メッキがビシッとしているといいですね。



本当は国産旧車も好きなんです。

僕は出来上がったばかりのMS50で、その他、縦目グロリアと左ハンドルのRS56ピックアップの3台で参加。MS50は暖かくなってから初めての中距離ドライブだったのでエアコンを試すには絶好のチャンス、と帰り道はエアコンを効かせ、事故渋滞にも巻き込まれましたが問題無く横浜に戻れました。

久しぶりにノンビリとしたイベントに参加出来、リフレッシュした感じです。スタッフの皆様、色々ありがとうございました。

The great blue sky, beautiful green, the birds singing, In this excellent location the NAKAYOSHI Hot Old's Meet (NHOM) was hosted. There are no pre entry and every one was to entry on the show day. 500 Show Cars and 100 Swap Meet was last call for show space, The host has announced that they wanted to make this event in good space not to be jammed so they closed entry after the capacity was filled. Its very harsh thing at same time but as they said so, the show space was big and enough to spend one day in comfortable space.

Guess the free paper "Kousoku Yuen" has made effect as the Domestic Old Cars showed strong in various years of make. Most cars I had my attention on as 1964 Toyota Crown, the Round Tail Lens Sedan and Van. The good chromes on the car makes its life back.

I went on 1970 Toyota Crown MS50 sedan which was just finished and other "Vertical head lights" Nissan Gloria Sedan plus 1969 Toyota Crown RS56 Pick up with left handle drive went in three. It was first medium distance for MS50 sedan after the weather got warm, It was a good chance to test the air conditioning, there were traffic on the way back due to car accident in TOUMEI KOUSOKU highway but made back safely to Yokohama.

It was good and refreshing to attend in this laid back event. Like to say thank you for every thing to the staff of this event.

カリフォルニア Long Beachで開催されたTOYOTA Day

5月12日(土)、California, Long Beachで"12th Anuual All TOYOTAFEST"が開催されました。

1999年に参加した時の写真が残っていますが、この時もKannon V-8で参加しました。

その後Kannon V-8は一度日本に行き、2年前にUSAへ戻ってきました。USAと日本を行ったり来たりですが、定住はCaliforniaになりそうです。当時はWoodyのイベントで有名なMoonlight Beachと呼ばれるBeachのCliffで開催されていました。参加台数もあまり多くなく、Club Meetingという感じでしたが、当時TOYOTAの集まりなんて珍しいので、1996年頃から参加していたと思います。

12回目となるTOYOTAFEST。今年は「TOYOTA北米輸出50周年」という節目なのでTOYOTAのサポートもあり、とても見ごたえのあるイベントとなりました。


エントリー車の年式は関係ない様なのでかなりの数の高年式車の参加もあり、特にTOYOTAブースではCamry & TundraのNASCARと共に、有名ビルダーによりカスタムされたCamryとAvalonが展示されていました。

最近の車は素のままで十分カッコイイですから、外観をカスタムするといっても、ドアハンドルを取り去るとかPaintするとか、ホイルを交換、グリル変更、とかやれる事の範囲が大変狭くなってきました。CamryもAvalonも、15年くらい前にBOYDSが製作していたスタイルと基本的には変わりません。ホイルはその時代を象徴しますから、ホイルが大きなポイントですね。Kannon V-8もホイルはいまだにBOYDSを履いていますから、見る人によってはいつごろ作られた車か分かると思います。1994年に製作したのでもう13年も前の車なんですね。月日が経つのが早いです。

スターレットにフェンダーミラーのクレシーダでいいのかな？フェンダーミラーは大人気、純正がほしいなんて言われても無いですよね。このクルマはGT053をうまく使っていたから合格です。


トヨタ ランドクルーザー？違います。
ICONというマーケットにある部品と自作のBody等で作られたクローン、10万ドルくらいするそうです。モーターはChevyでした。TOYOTA車の中で年式に関係なく値段が付いているのはランドクルーザーです。結構高いですが、これ程高くはありません。次はついに2000GTクローンの登場となるのでしょう。

このEventには多くの人が日本から来ていましたし、取材陣も多かったですね。

さて、1等賞を取ったのはDrag Race仕様の69年カローラ。MOONEYESが選んだのでは無く、審査員が選考した車に副賞としてMOON Discを提供しましたが、偶然とはいえまったく僕のTasteでした。Deuce Factoryの笠井氏も会場で受賞されていました。




9月29日(土)には同じ会場で、今度は"旧車集会 - Japanese Classic Car Show"が開催されます。楽しみですね！　

12th Annual All TOYOTAFEST
12th Annual All TOYOTAFEST was held in Long Beach, California on Saturday May 12th.
There were picture left from 1999 and Kannon Crown V-8 was taken as entry too then. The Kannon V-8 was once taken back to Japan and returned to USA about two years ago. It has been going back and forth between USA and Japan but looks like its going to stay in California.

Back then it was hosted at the beach cliff at Moonlight Beach where it is famous for Woody Events. The entry were not so many, it was just like club meeting but TOYOTA meeting were rare so we have been going to the show from 1996.

The 12th TOYOTAFEST showed strong support from TOYOTA as this year was 50th anniversary for US export. The year of make was not regulated for entry so there were many newer years cars at show especially the TOYOTA booth showed Camry & Tundra NASCAR and famous builder's custom Camry and Avalon were showed.

Current cars are cool as is and exterior customs are regulated to like shaving door handles, paint, wheel, grill changed and so regulated to few things. The Camry and Avalon are both same taste in what BOYDS were making 15 years ago. The wheel represent the year so its big point. Kannon V-8 still has BOYDS for wheel and some people can tell when car was made. It was made in 1994, so it has been 13 years old. Time flies by.

Starlet and Cressida with fender mirror, I think its right? The Fender mirrors are very popular, if we get asked for original pair, don't have those original pair in stock. This Cressida is great! Shows the nice way to use GT053 Mirror.

This one is called "ICON", it is a clone with own made body and market parts. ICON costs 100K dollars. The motor was Chevy. The Land cruiser is one of the value established model in any year model among TOYOTA. It is pretty expensive but not as ICON. Next release, will it be finally the clone of 2000GT?

This event has many people come over from Japan and many reporters of magazine were there too.

Now the first prize went to Drag Race style 1969 TOYOTA Carolla, MOONEYES had donated MOON Disc for sub prize and judges happen to chose the car I liked most with my Taste. Deuce Factory, Mr. KASAI has also received prize.

At same location on Saturday September 29th the "Japanese Classic Car Show" will be hosted. I am looking forward to that event.

ジャンクヤード

この写真を手に入れたのは約10年以上前の事だと思う。
2台のクラウン観音ワゴンに1台の観音セダン、それと丸テールと角テールのセダンがそれぞれ1台ずつ、店の前にはパンクしたマークII ワゴン。もっと他にもあるんじゃないかなと想像を掻き立ててくれるジャンクヤード。

頼りは建物の外観に書かれたShop名、市外局番の無い電話番号、それと番地とストリートの名前だけ。

番地があってもCityや郡が分からなければ当時は探しようがないし、電話番号があっても市外局番が無ければ掛けようがない。想像できるのはNorthern Californiaのどこか、それもタダの想像にすぎず、何度かTryしたが結局見つけられずに諦め、何時の間にか深い記憶の奥に眠っていたこのジャンクヤード。

とある時「そうだ、Googleで探してみよう」と思いつき、色々やってみると、何と衛星写真でそれらしい場所を確定する事に大成功。マークＩＩの写真後方に写っていた斜めに駐車する道路や、なにやら学校のような低く大きな建物、そしてジャンクヤードみたいな建物も確定できたが、周りにジャンクのクルマを見る事が出来ない。見えるのは広いヤードだけ、でも確かに写真に写る建物はこのShopに違いない。場所が確定できたからやはり現地を確かめ、物があればラッキーだし、無ければ諦めも付く。

そんな訳でLAから4時間くらい北上し、現地を訪ねることになった。非力なChevy HHRでFWY5の急坂はかなりきつい。1960年代当時の非力な日本車でハイスピードでのこの山越えは大変だったろうと思いつつ、現地についてみるとあった！場所は間違えていなかった！しつこく思っていればいつかはかなう時が来るもんだ！と自分のしつこさに感謝！建物もあり、かなり外観は違うが、でもこの建物に間違いない。



さてクラウンは？一台もない、それよりジャンクヤード自体が無い、やはり衛星写真のとおりか。Shopのオーナーに聞いてみると7年前まではあったが、そのオーナーが他界し、ジャンクは全て何処かへ行ってしまい、その後は現オーナーが修理屋をやり、現在に至るそうである。なんと、あのクラウンは何処へ行ってしまったのか？
でももしまだあった場合どうしたか？あのジャンクを全部を買う事になったとしたら・・・。これ以上、ジャンク クラウンを横浜に集めてどうする？と冷静に考えてみると無くて良かったのかもしれない。でも残念。10年前に来たかった！

These picture were given about 10 years ago. Two TOYOTA Crown "Kannon (Suicide Doors)" Wagon, one Sedan and one each of Round Tail Lenses and Square Tail Lenses Sedan. There was a punctured Mark II Wagon in front of shop and junk yard which probably contained more. The source was the name of shop and street name with number and phone number without an area code. There was no way to find place back than. No city name or province, no area code phone number meant no way to call. All I could imagine was that it was somewhere in Northern California.

But that was just my imagination and even though I tried few things I couldn't find it and eventually I had given up finding and it was left on my memories until I thought about trying to find it using "Google" and found some satellite pictures of the location. Same way the cars are parked on the street behind the Toyota Mark II as on picture, Short but big building which look like school or church and this building at junk yard was able to identify but the junk cars around the building was unable to find, all there was huge yard, but still the building has to be right since I have located place, I have to check the place, I will be lucky if cars are still there and even if there are none left I could give up so drove 4 hours from LA to visit the place.

The taking hike on steep uphill on FWY 5 was hustle for the weak Chevy HHR, Freeway has some steep hills to clime up the mountain and It must have been some hustle to go over the mountain in high speed with weak 1960s Japanese cars.

Finally found the place and it was there, the place was right. Extremely constantly thinking about wishes and eventually wishes come true. I had to thank to my continuous wishes the building is there but it looks they had changed some, but its definitely the same building and how about Crown?

Not even one car, junk yard is gone the satellite picture was right. Asked the shop owner and he told me that old man was there until seven years ago and junk yard was still there with many cars but when he passed away they sold place and junk was taken away, The current owner owns place from then till now and has repair shop. Well where did all that Crown go? But what if all the cars were still there, what would I do with all the Crowns from junk yard move to Yokohama, Japan? What am I going to do with more Junk Crown in Yokohama? When I think about it calmly, it was better to be all gone, even though its sad to see them all gone. I wish I was there back in ten years ago.

先週末のMOONEYES USA

先週末はMOONEYES USA（以降MUI）倉庫の引越しでした。
今度の新しい倉庫はShopの隣なので大変便利ですが、狭くなったので足場を組んで2Fを作りました。木曜日からDeanに手伝ってもらい少しずつ物を移動し金曜日に一気にと思いましたが、金曜日は生憎の雨。気温も低くこの日は倉庫内の整理で終わってしまいました。

Californiaも寒かったり暑かったりで、天候は全世界的に不順なようです。冷たい雨は夕方に上がり、レインボウが東の空にかかったのですがこの日はこれでおしまい。

土曜日、Again！この日も朝から一気に、と行きたいところでしたが、この日はVenturaで"Back to the Beach"というCar Showが開催され、一度も行った事が無かったので午前中だけ行ってきました。Shopから2時間位、Ventura Hightway 101を北上したVentura County FairｇrandでそのShowは開催されています。101をそのまま北上するとあの有名なPaso Roblesにも行けます。今年のPasoは5月27日、日本ではMotorcycle "Show & Swap Meet"（MSS）の開催日ですね。どっちに行きますか？勿論MSSですね！

このEvent、クルマとKustom KultureのEventですが、バイクも沢山参加していますし、Swap Meetでは多くがバイク部品を売っていました。

Southern Californiaで開催されるこの種類のEventはバイクの参加が当り前になり、必ずバイクを見る事ができます。ゆっくりしたかったのですが倉庫の移動もあり、10時過ぎには会場を出てShopに向かいました。

天気も良かったので出来るだけの荷物を移動。中には無くなっては困る物があるので、自分でしっかり移動しておくのが今回の大きな目的だったのは言うまでもありません。このDragsterのフレームやWoodyも、ちゃんと倉庫に保管できます。


夜、友人に誘われてSeal BeachでDinnerを取り、PCH（Pacific Coast HWY）で帰宅途中、30年近く写真を撮ろう、撮ろうと思いつつ、クルマを止めるのが面倒で何度もその前をパスしたポリネシア風レストランを今回は意を決して遂に撮影したのです。無くなる前に撮れて良かったです。

「次に撮ればいいや」と思い結局撮れなかった物も沢山あり、写真に明日はありませんね。撮ろうと思った時以外にチャンスは2度と来ません。今回は珍しくいい決断でした。Huntington Beach周辺が一番変わってしまいました。

日曜日、この日は日本に戻る日でしたがPomonaもあり、Long BeachではBikeのSwap Meetもあり、空港へ行く前にちょっとLong Beachに寄って行こうと思っていました。が、MUIはブースをPomonaに出店しているし、久しくPomonaに行っていなかったので、覗きに行ってきました。

クルマのエリアしか廻れませんでしたが、昔からみる50年代、60年代のクルマは勿論の事、Muscle Carや70年代、80年代の車も多く見かけました。

クルマってたくさん道で見かけているうちは皆、鼻も掛けませんが、一瞬全く姿を見なくなり、次に目に付くようになった時は結構な値段が付いたりしているケースが多いです。「昔はこれ沢山走っていたのに」とか「なんでこのクルマが。。」とか、無くなって来たり、何かのきっかけで廻りが騒ぎ出し、あっという間に値段が高騰してしまうクルマも沢山あります。Pomonaでは日本車も結構ありました。

日本では高くなって手が出せないクルマはトヨタ 2000GT位でしょうか？USAではChrysler系は皆高いし、カマロもマスタングも何でも高かったです。クルマはある程度高い金額で取引されていれば簡単にジャンクになりませんが、 日本のようにどんどん値段が低くなると扱われ方も値段のように低くなっていくので、その様なクルマの行く末は不安が一杯です。と思ったのが今回のPomonaでした。


Pomonaから空港へ向かうFWY605では日本VIP仕様のLexusが前方を走行していました。FWYに似合うとは思えませんが、日本車の人気が高い以上、日本車をカスタムすれば手本は日本ですからこうなっても不思議はありませんね。USAの日本車好きにとってはCoolなのでしょう。こうしてCalifornia 3泊5日は終わり、来週は上海オートショーです。

Last weekend was MOONEYES USA (MUI) warehouse moving. The new warehouse is beside the shop and very convenient but smaller so made 2nd floor. From Thursday Dean MOON Jr. has helped to move things from old warehouse and wished to make all move within Friday but it had to rain. It was cold too so clean up the new warehouse was all we could do

California is also having strange weather with mix of warm and cold days , Looks like weather is unstable world wide. The cold rain has dried up in late afternoon and rainbow has appeared in east sky so this was end for the day.

On Saturday I hoped to finish on from morning but there was an event called "Back to the Beach" at Ventura and I had to go there in morning as I have never been to it.

Two hours on Ventura highway 101 from shop at Ventura County Fairground was where the show was hosted. 101 north leads to famous Paso Robles. This year's Paso is on May 27th, in Japan we host Motorcycle "Show and Swap Meet (MSS)". Which one would you go? Of course MSS, right!

This event is Hot Rods/Kustoms and Kustom Kulture event but many bikes were there too. Swap Meet had mainly bike parts.

Southern California event with this type of event has always bikes in the show. You can always see the bikes. I wish to look around more but had to return to moving so I left the show on 10am went back to the shop. The weather was good so made things move as much as possible.

There were many thing that cannot be lost so I had to move them by myself which was the major reason of this trip. The Dragster frame and Woody are in warehouse too.

At night, friends asked me for dinner in Seal Beach and cruised on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) made stop to take picture of Polynesian restaurant which I wanted to take picture for more than 30 years but didn't stop the car to take picture. I was so please to be able to take picture before it was gone.

Next time and so many things I couldn't take picture as things will not be there, you never know so there are No tomorrow for taking pictures. No chance other than when you thought of taking pictures. It was rare good decision. Huntington Beach has chanted most in PCH.

Sunday, this day was the returning day to Japan but Pomona was on, Long Beach had Bike Swap Meet and wanted to stop by Long Beach before taking flight but as MUI had shop in Pomona I went to Pomona. I went around the area for cars only but from old time the 50s and 60s, Muscle Car and 70s and 80s car were seen too.

Car is not paid too much attention when they are still running on street but Once they are gone, next time to see is usually after the price has gone up. "This car was all over the street" or "Why this car?" but as soon as they are gone and some how it starts up the move and price get rocket high. There were many Japanese car in Pomona too.

How about the Toyota 2000GT which is too high priced in Japan. In USA, Chryslers are all getting high. Camaro and Mustangs were high too. Car will not be junked if the price is kept high and if price fall like in Japan and the care will be less as equal as the price and worries me how it will end. That what I thought of Pomona this time.

On the way from Pomona to LAX on FWY 605, there was Japanese VIP style Lexus driving in far front. I doubt it match with freeway but as Japanese cars are as getting popular, if some one refer to that style as a text it can not be helped. People who like Japanese car in USA may seem cool. That's how 5 day 3 nights in California has end and next week is Shanghai Auto Show 2007.

君は見ましたか Datsun 320 Pick Upを

今年のMOONEYES Street Car Nationals(SCN)で久しぶりに笠井君（Deuce Factory Owner）らしいカスタムを見ました。6穴のDatsun 320 Pick UpにVW用 Speed Master Wheelを履いてしまったのです。

まず、Speed Master Wheelには6H（6穴）は用意されていません。VW用のSpeed Master Wheelを加工しようと彼は考えたのです。VW用は5H205という大変広いピッチです。それをEarly VW to 4H用ホイルのAdapterを使って装着していました。それは本来、5H205のVWに4Hとか5Hのホイルを履く為に使うのですが、彼はそれを逆さまに使い、5H205のホイルにAdapterを合わせ4H部分を加工し、6Hに変更し、無理矢理と言えば無理矢理ですが、Speed Master Wheelを装着してしまったのです。

それとET製ノックオフタイプのスピンナーも、スピンナータワーをホイル裏側にネジ留めした上にスピンナーをつけていますから、飛び出しすぎる事もなく丁度いい感じで装着されています。タイヤサイズは聞き忘れましたが、ホイルが15×6ですから多分ミシュランの165×15をリア、フロントは145×15でしょうか。このサイズのタイヤ、国産旧車に大変良くマッチします。最近、あまり見る事がなかった何が何でも取り付ける」という彼の執念を見た一台でした。どうしても付けたい物があったら何が何でも付けちゃう、それもカッコ良く。カスタムですねー。

先週お話したCrown SedanもPick Upも完成し、SCNに展示することが出来ました。が、Pickは最終仕上げの為にそのまま工場へとんぼ返り。しかしSedanはインテリアを除いてほぼCompleteです。Metalic Dark GrayのBodyにリクロームした部品がキラキラに輝き、ホイルのMag GrayもBodyに大変良くマッチしています。大人のSedanです。

SCNの前の晩、本牧から伊勢崎町を通り帰宅の途中、信号待ちしていると、スーっとメルセデスが隣に停車。「ん？」と思ったら運転席の窓がスーっと下がって「ドキ！」。すると同年代位のドライバーの方が「30年以上前のクルマですよね、綺麗ですね、大事に乗ってください」って声を掛けられました。Californiaではちょっと違う車に乗っていると信号のたびにうるさいくらい話しかけれますが、日本ではまずないですよね。メルセデスの窓が下がった時はちょっと驚きましたが、感じよく運転して帰れました。話しかけてきた方も同年代くらい、オッサンが気にするSedanです。

This Sunny truck was cool. The Drop Kick shop from Yamagata makes nice cars which is rare shop in these days.
このサニートラックはカッコ良かったです。山形のDrop Kickさんはいい感じの車を作る、今時では珍しいお店です。

SCNでは何時も搬入口を某巨大トラック専門買取センターB/Pの金子社長、またの名をMr. Blueが助けてくれています。感謝です。今年はタイヤがバーストして金子社長遅刻してきました。苦し紛れに適当な事を言って！なんて思っていましたが帰りはベイブリッジ付近でまたバーストしたそうです。1日に2回ですよ、バースト2回もしますか？でも彼だったらあってもおかしくないです。Mr. Blue、何時もお手伝いありがとうございます。

"Did you see that Datsun 320 Pick Up"
In this years MOONEYES Street Car Nationals (SCN) I have seen custom by Mr. Kasai of Deuce Factory Japan owner with his style which I didn't see for a while. Datsun 320 Pick up with 6 lug hole pattern had VW Speed Master Wheels on.

The Speed Master Wheel doesn't have 6 lug holes. It was his idea to use the Speed Master Wheel for VWs. The Speed Master Wheel for VW has wide 205mm pitch 5 lug holes. He used Early VW to 4 lug adapter to fit. The adapter is originally used for VW with 5 lug hole 205 pitch car to Fit 4 lug holes or 5 lug holes wheels, but he used it other way around and Bolted adapter to 5 lug 205 pitch wheels and custom work was done to make 4 lug nut wheel hole to match 6lug hole and forced to fit the Speed Master Wheels on.

Also the ET manufactured knock off type spinner was also fitted. He bolted tower on from behind the wheels so spinners doesn't look too far out and looked just good I forgot to ask about tire size, front is 15X6 so I think its Michelin 165X15 on rear and front is 145X15. These tire sizes matches best to Japanese Classics. This car showed us his spirit of making things fit on cars which We haven't seen in while. Any parts that want to make it fit, will make it fit and of course it has to look good. That's Custom.

The Crown Sedan and Pick Up I have mentioned last week has finished and were able to show at SCN. But the Pick Up had to go back to factory for last adjustment. Sedan is complete except the interior. Metallic Dark Gray body with chromed parts shining and Wheels Mag Gray Color Matches to very well with body. It's the sedan for adults.

On the night before SCN, going home from Honmoku through Isezaki-cho in Yokohama, while stopping at lights, the Mercedes stopped at side. When I noticed the car had stopped the window rolled down, be given a start. Then the gentleman who was about my age said to me "That's more than 30 years old car, its beautiful, please take good care of your car". In California everyone will say something when you are driving a different car but no one does that in Japan. I was surprised when Mercedes came by and rolled its window down but It made me feel great driving the way back home. He was about same age as myself, this Sedan catches attention from old man.

In SCN, Mr. Kaneko the president of a huge Truck buying center with other name Mr. Blue has helped us at entrance gate. Very thank full. This year he was late because the tire had burst. He had chosen a bad excuse then he had second burst again on the way back. Twice in a day! Unusual but anything may be possible with Mr. Blue. Mr. Blue, Thank you for helping us all the time.

SCNに間に合うの？

年明けから進め始めたMS50 クラウンセダンとRS56 クラウン ピックアップのProjectがいよいよ完成間近となってきました。

1-JZエンジンに換装済みのMS50は全塗装・内装とホイル交換です。ホイルはSpeed Master Wheel、この機会に17×7 5H114.3 +25を製作しました。しかもセンターキャップも新たに作り、5H205 VW用のようなホイルにビス留めタイプ、高さもVWの物よりか若干低くなった特製品です。ホイルアダプター等を使わなくても130クラウンとかにジャストフィットの＋25で、4月下旬には発売開始になります。


RS56 ピックアップは快適・高速クラウンピックアップとなるべく、なんとこれにも1-JZを積んでいます。まだ完成したのを見ていないので何とも言えませんが、大変楽しみな一台です。このクルマは板金塗装と内装は既に終わっているので、換装が済めばそのまま乗り出せそうです。


2台とも明日のSCNに展示したいなと思っていますが、（このブログを書いている）今日は木曜日。現時点ではまだ2台共、目の前にありません。不安。。。。

明日4月15日(日)は21回目のMOONEYES Street Car Nationals。昨年の20回目で600台以上のエントリーがありました。20回目という事もあり、多くのエントリーがあったので21回目はきっと少なくなるだろう、なんて大方の予想は嬉しい事に裏切られ、700台オーバーとなりました。ありがとうございます！楽しい一日にしましょう。ご協力宜しく御願いします。

The project '70 Toyota MS50 Crown Sedan and '70 Toyota RS56 Crown Pick up has finally came close to completion.

The MS50 Sedan with swapped 1-JZ motor has new paint this time with new interior and new set of wheels. The wheels is Speed Master Wheel which we made new size 17X7 5H114.3 +25. We also made new center cap, center cap is not snap on but screwed to wheel style, like 5H205 VW version and the height of center cap is lowered short than 5H 205 VW version. No wheel adapters are necessary for 130 series Toyota Crown with Just fit +25 off set. They are ready at stores by end of April. RS56 Pick up has gained great comfort and Speed by 1-JZ Engine too. Can't tell much as not seen its completion yet but looking very forward to seeing it. This Pick up has new paint and new interior before the motor swap, so think it can drive right out after swapping drive train completes.

I want to display both Crowns at "MOONEYES Street Car Nationals" but as of today on Thursday both cars has not arrived in front of me. Getting worried.

Tomorrow is the "21st Annual MOONEYES Street Car Nationals", last years 20th show had Over 600 cars entry. May be 20th annual was the key so this year most expected to be less but very nice surprise the entry was more than 700 cars. Thank you very much. Lets make it one happy day. Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink

Los AngelsにあるPetersen Museumで、Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink展が開催されているので、Wildmanと行ってきました。

この日はちょっと強行軍で、早朝 Long Beach Swap Meetに行き、そこからBurbankで開催されたPaint関係の展示会を覗き、折角LA近くまで来たのでその足でPetersen Museumを訪れました。

既に"Rat Fink's Revenge"という本で皆様も御存知かと思いますが、Wildman、Shakin'、Mr. G、Enamelなどの日本人アーテイスト達を筆頭に、各国のアーティストによって思い思いにペイントされたRat Finkの人形が展示され、またEd Rothが制作した歴代の車やバイク等も展示されたイベントでした。

生前、Ed Rothは古い物をほとんど手元に残しておらず、California, La Miradaの自宅裏にあったアトリエに少々残っていたくらいです。その後、ユタ州に引越したりで彼自身は本当に古い物を持っていなかったように記憶しています。その代わりにコレクターの方が沢山いて、バイクから車まで、そのほとんどが現存しているのではないでしょうか。

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink I went to the Ed "Big Daddy" Roth "The Original Rat Fink" Exhibition hosted at Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. California with our pisntriper Hiro "Wildman" Ishii. That day was little hard on schedule as early in the morning we went to the Long Beach Swap Meet then to the Burbank for a peek on the Paint exhibition and as we came near by LA we decided to stop by the Petersen Museum. May be most of people already know by the book called "Rat Fink's Revenge" but there was Rat Fink dolls painted by each artist from Japanese artist such as Wildman, Shakin', Mr. G, Enamel to artist from various other countries at the exhibition and historical cars and bikes made by Ed Roth were gathered and displayed at this event. In his time Ed Roth didn't have any of his worked pieces left at his hand and only few were left at his work house in back yard of his home in La Mirada, California. After that he had moved to Utah State and I recall that he himself didn't have any of his old art piece left at his hand. Instead there were plenty of collectors and most of his art pieces still exist from bikes to cars. This time Beatnik Bandit、Outlaw、Mysterion、Rotor、Road Agent & Surfite were on exhibit and collection of items that were sold in the past was well worth seeing. Exhibition is on until June 3rd. Visitors #2

1月14(日)、Barracudaさん主催のDomestic CarsのMorning Cruise "MANIA CRUISE"をArea-1裏 Parking Lot.で開催しました。このMorning Cruiseは奇数月の第2日曜日に開催しています。

今回、50台近くの国産車が集まったのですが、集まったのは国産車だけでなく、USAからVisitorも2名いたのです。しかもどこかで会った事あるなーと思って話していたら、何と12月30日のブログに書いた「MarylandでMS60(クジラクラウン)を持っていて部品を探している」と言っていたSEMAショーで会った人だったのです。今回は兄弟でやって来たそうです。このCruiseの事はBarracudaさんのWebで知ったらしく、オートサロンを見て、このCruiseに来て、28日(日）のNew Year Meetingを見て帰国するそうです。凄い、日本車中心の旅です。

今USAの若者に日本車旧車が受けているようです。以前ブログで、最近、電車やバスを使ってArea-1にやって来る海外からの旅行者が増えたと書いたばかりですが、何と彼らはレンタカーでやって来ました。海外からの旅行者が日本でレンタカーを運転するのは大変だと思います。遂にレンタカーで海外の旅行者がArea-1に来店したのです。 カーナビがあるから大丈夫と言っても日本語ですし、道のサインはおまけ程度の英語しか書いてませんし、デタラメにあっちこっち繋がっている日本の道は海外の人では簡単に運転できませんね。彼らHsu兄弟のガッツに拍手です。彼らのWebサイト "Japanese Nostalgic Car"は楽しいですよ。

夕方にはBike Shop "TT & Company"さんの高橋社長一行がツーリングの途中に立ち寄ってくれました。嬉しい事にバイクの方々の来店も増えています。TT & Companyの皆さん、寒い中ありがとうございました。

"Visitors #2" On Sunday January 14th Morning Cruise for "Domestic Japanese Old cars-called MANIA CRUISE" was hosted by "Barracuda" at MOONEYES Area-1 parking lot in Honmoku, Yokohama. This morning cruise is hosted on every second Sunday of odd month. There were about 50 domestic cars at this morning cruise, not only the domestics but we had 2 visitors from USA. Plus I thought I have seen before and it was on the last blog the same guy from Maryland that I met at 2006 SEMA show looking for parts for 1972 TOYOTA Crown MS60. This time he came with his brother. He found this cruise on Barracuda's Web Site and plan was to see TOKYO Auto Salon, this Cruise and New Year Meeting on Sunday 28th. Their main trip is based on Japanese cars. Now Japanese Nostalgic cars are getting popular among young generation in USA. On the last blog, I had mentioned that there were many people from abroad visiting MOONEYES Area-1 by train and bus but they came driving rent a car. I think it's hard for visitors to drive in Japan with rent a car. Finally visitor from abroad has visited Area-1 by renting a car and driving to Honmoku, Yokohama. I don't think its easy for tourist to drive in Japan as there are only GPS in Japanese, signs on street has English with no intention to guide and road connected in various direction and places. I like to clap hands to Hsu brothers guts. Their Web Site is "Japanese Nostalgic Car" its fun to see. In late after noon, Mr. TAKAHASHI President of Bike Shop "TT & Company" came to stop by while he was touring with his crew. It is nice to know that customer vesting Area-1 Shop by bike is increasing. MS50 Equipped 1-JZ Motor

5ヶ月に及ぶBig Project、1970 TOYOTA Crown Super Delux MS50にToyota 1-JZ MotorへのSwapが完成しました。乗り易いの何のって、最高です。毎日乗ってますよ！

エンジン等の老朽化、そして修理部品がなかなか手に入らない問題とか、旧車を維持する上で沢山の壁にぶつかります。特にエンジンやミッション等が駄目になり、維持する事を諦めるケースは大変多いと思います。オリジナルのエンジンをオーバーホールするにも、ガスケットすら手に入らないような日本で、どうやって旧車を維持していけるのでしょうか？USA車のように50年近く基本的に同じ機構のメカニズム等であれば、50年前のエンジン部品でも今だに簡単に手に入りますが、日本車のようにしょっちゅう物が変わっていくと、修理部品すら入手できないのが現状ですね。 仮にこのクラウンのエンジン部品が手に入り、オリジナルエンジンを蘇らせたとしても、それは35年前のエンジンが蘇るわけですから当時の走りと何も変わらない訳です。それは辛い！その辛さはもう結構です。50年前のUSA車のV-8はパワーもあり今でも十分ですが、昔の日本車は非力でしたね。 免許を取ってからM型モーターは散々乗ったので、そのダルさは十分体験済みです。しかも当時3年落ちくらいのMS50ですから、まだNewに近いエンジン、でも遅かったな。渋滞ではクーラーを切らなければ水温上がるしね。今までに何台か1-JZにSwapしたクラウンを見ていましたが、最近はそろそろSwapをしてもいいかな？と思える位に完成度も高くなって来たのでGOしました。 条件は、太いテールパイプやこれ見よがしの大きいマフラー等は超大嫌いなので外見はオリジナル。インテリア、特にメーター廻り等は絶対オリジナル。僕はCDとかGPSとかを無神経にダッシュに取り付けするのが嫌いなので、どの車もインテリアはノーマルに近いです。一度取り付けで穴を開けたら二度と元に戻りませんからね。まあ早い話、フードを開けなければ何にも分からないくらい、見える範囲はノーマルです。 Swap後は走ると早いし、暖気運転必要ないし、最高ですね！「これもありですか？」って質問もありましたが、エンジン云々より古い車がこの様な問題で潰されちゃう事を考えたら勿論「あり」でしょう。

今朝 通勤途中、山下公園前のNew Grand Hotelに車を停め、もうじき葉が落ちそうな銀杏並木をバックにMS50を撮りました。このホテルも横浜の歴史的ホテルです。

"MS50 Equipped 1-JZ Motor" The five month big project of swapping TOYOTA 1-JZ Motor on to 1970 TOYOTA Crown Super Delux MS50 has completed. It's very easy to drive and really great. I drive it every day now. With motor getting old and less parts available for repair there are many problems that will effect maintaining an Old Domestic car in Japan. I think there are many cases where owner will give up after fatal break down of motor and or transmission. How can owner maintain the old car when no gasket is available for original motor to overhaul? Even if parts for this TOYOTA Crown's Engine came in and repaired original motor, its motor from 35 years ago and same as those days. That's pain. And its too difficult to bear anymore. The 50 years old USA cars with V-8 had enough powers for current driving condition but old Japanese cars were weak. I used to drive the TOYOTA M motors after getting my license so I have experienced enough sluggish performance. It was only about 3 years old MS50 Sedan back then so even almost new motor was slow. I had to turn off AC in traffic to avoid overheat. I have seen some TOYOTA Crowns with 1-JZ Motor but recently the quality and techniques has advanced to have decent finish job so I made decision to GO for swap. The condition is not fat tail pipe, big fat muffler is not my favorite so I want the exterior looks original. The Interior, especially around the gauges and dash panel has to be original, I don't like to have CD player and or GPS placed on dash without care so all cars have very close to original interior. So unless I open the hood, its very original that's its hard to tell that motor has been swapped. After the swap, its fast to drive and don't need to warm up the motor and its great. Someone asked me if it was OK thing to do this swap, I think its OK as not just motor performance changed but rather have saved one car from being pressed in junk yard. This morning on the way to work I stopped by the New Grand Hotel in front of Yamashita-Park and took picture of MS50 and raw of maiden hair tree with leaves almost falling. This hotel is also historical hotel of YOKOHAMA.

Crown Picnic

19日(日)はCrown Picnicでした。 前日、久しぶりに1964 Masterline Pick Upを引っ張り出してきました。俗に言う丸テールのPick Upです。このスタイル何とも言えずカッコいいですね。あまりカッコいいので脚立を持ち出し、撮ったのがこの写真です。

17回目のCrown Picnicは残念ながら雨となってしまいましたが、60台近いクラウンが集まり、

なんと観音クラウン4台、

涙テールのセダンが2台、プラス ステーションワゴンが1台と希少車が勢ぞろいしました。

今まであまり雨に降られた事がないこのEventですが、今回はほぼ一日中降られてしまいました。

Crown Classicsにベースとなる丸テール クラウン ステーションワゴン3台とピック アップ1台がオーストラリアから入荷しました。会場での模様は今週末のMMM（ムーンアイズ メールマガジン）に掲載しますのでお楽しみに！

"Toyota Crown Picnic" was hosted on Sunday 19th. On day before the show, we pulled out our 1964 Toyota Masterline (sister car of Crown) Pick Up. It's called "Crown Pick Up with Round Tail Lamp". This style is hard to describe but looks really good. In fact it was too cool that I just had to bring the ladder to take a pictures like this. The 17th Crown Picnic was unfortunately rained on but about 60 Toyota Crowns came to the show with very rare cars like four "Suicide Door" Crowns which was Toyota's first exported car to United States back in 50s. one Crown Stationwagon with "Tear drop Tail Lamp" and two Crown 4dr Sedan with "Tear drop Tail Lamp" were there. They are all hard to find now. We haven't had rain on the past Crown Picnic events but this time we had rain for most of the day. Crown Classics has new base cars arrived from Australia in stock, They are 3 of "Round Tail" Crown stationwagon plus Pick Up. カリフォルニア 旧車集会

2nd Annual California Japanese Classic Car Show at Queen Mary Park, Long Beach, CA. Meet the So Cal Old School Imports.

今回で2回目となる、"Japanese Classic Car Show"に行って来ました。 昔は肩身が狭そうにStreetを走っていた小さい日本車をこれだけ沢山Californiaで一度に観られて、何て幸せな時代になったのでしょう。 70年代、Californiaに住んでいた時はRX-2（カペラ）やRX-3（サバンナ）等を街で沢山見かけましたが、最近はまったくストリートで見かけなくなりました。

今回は会場の中でマツダ系が多いことにビックリしました。RX-2やRX-3はCaliforniaで見る方が日本で見るよりカッコいいと当時から思っていましたが、久しぶりにこれらを見てもその認識は変わりませんでした。

昔、LA, Crenshaw辺りで行われていたStreet Raceでは多くのロータリー車を見かけました。今回もマツダ系はそのノリに近い感じで、退出の際はタイヤをキーキー鳴らしながら走っていました。昔と違う所は大径ホイルになっていて、オーナーの服装が変わったという点です。彼らにはRX-2が人気のようです。

古いマツダ系はUSAで観ると今のHondaと一緒でカッコいいです。

僕が気に入ったマツダ車はこのRX-3 Drag Race Car。昔はNHRAでも良く見かけたロータリー レースカーも最近ではめっきり見る機会もなくなりましたが、今だに健在な一台を見つけました。しかもフロントホイルは今のスタイルのニューデザインです。

そしてもう一台のRX-3、Centerline WheelとTraction Barが当時です。RX-3にはUSA製ホイルが良く似合っていますね。

会場にはニッサンの歴代レースカー（510はクローンのようです）も飾られ、

Toyotaは2000GTを展示したり、マツダはR360 クーペやコスモを展示し、

このショーに対しToyota＆マツダ等のメーカーも協力的なようでした。

中にはセリカにHonda V-Tech Motorを積んだのもあります。エンジンスワップも盛ん、ブレーキも大径に変更されてました。

スバル等ももちろん、

総数293台ものエントリーがあったそうです。 今回会場では沢山の顔見知りの日本の方に会いました。2台のクラウンは前原さん兄弟の出展車で、白のクラウンには何とChevy V-8が載っていました。

各雑誌社の方も多く、そんな中、高速有鉛の発行人であり、ストリートVWs マガジンの編集長でもあるフルウチ君と、ニッサン旧車パーツをメインで扱うバラクーダの飯田さんの2人はこんなバナーを作り、クイーンメリー号バックに記念撮影です。60年代ハワイに行った日本人観光団ばりのバナーです。最近は本当に特徴ある人が多くなりました。

そしてこの人も居ました。そう、'32 Ford Deuceのオーソリティーであり、トヨタ 2000GTの大ファンでもあるDeuce Factoryの笠井さんです。 こういうイベントが増えるとCaliforniaの日本車旧車事情も良くなってくるでしょう。

	今回のショーで僕の一番はこのBonneville仕様のサニーです。当時のレースカーを発掘し、レストレーションを始めるそうで、最近USAでは古いレースカーの発掘とレストレーションが盛んになっています。 最後に、このイベントの主催者Mr.＆Mrs. 山口様、お疲れ様でした。また来年も宜しく御願いします。

一息入れて、この日はLong Beachの別の場所で、現代Californiaのカームーブメントと言える"California JAM after Dark"というイベントが夜10時頃まで開催されていたので覗きに行ったら、展示されている車と音楽の音量に圧倒され、ビックリし過ぎて帰ってきました。カスタム度の凄いの何のって、驚きの数分でした。

Back in old days the small Japanese cars were running on street with feeling small but to see that small Japanese cars in this mass number in California is cheering and what a nice time has came. When I was living in California back in 70s', many Mazda RX-2(Capella) and RX-3(Savanna) were able to see on street and hardly see any on street this days but I was so surprised to see so many Mazda cars at the show. I thought RX-2 and RX-3 were cooler to see in California than in Japan back then and that opinion is still unchanged today. Back in old days in Crenshaw, LA. There were many Rotary cars at Street Race. Old Mazda looks cool in US just like new Honda. I liked this Mazda RX-3 Drag Race Car。There were many Rotary Race Car seen in NHRA But these days we don't see still running one any more except for this one. On top of that the Front wheel is brand new design of current day. The other RX-3 was nostalgic as Centerline and Traction Bar were parts from back then. There were various years of Nissan Racecars displayed at show, Toyota had 2000GT and Mazda also had R360 Coupe and Cosmo displayed at show. Toyota and Mazda seemed very supportive to this show. With other Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru total 293 cars had entry. This time at show I saw many familiar Japanese people. The two Toyota Crowns were entry from Maehara brothers, White Crown had Chevy v8 on. There were many people magazine, "Kousoku Yuen(High Speed Leaded)" founder and chief editor of Street VWs Magazine Mr. Furuchi and Nissan NOS parts specialist shop "Barracuda" owner Mr. Iida were taking snap with this hand made banner and Queen Mary in back. This banner is like Japanese tourist group who went to Hawaii in 60s'. Also there was this man too. The authority of '32 Ford Deuce, owner Deuce Factory Japan and big fan of Toyota 2000GT, Mr. Kasai. If this kind of event increase, the California will have better deals for Japanese classic cars. The best of my favorite in the show is this Bonneville style Nissan Sunny. The restoration will take a place to renew the old real race cars which is getting popular in USA to restoration and finding the old Race Cars. Lastly like to say thanks to the host of this event, Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi. I am looking forward to the next years show. I went to another show after this event, which could be a current California movement, "California JAM after Dark" which was hosted until 10pm. It was continuous surprise of the cars at show and volume of music and I had left after looking around. It was couple minutes of surprise by the radical custom seen there.

九州への旅 #3

23日(土) 晴れ。今日はHot Ridesの日、宿泊先から会場までは3キロ程度。もう心配無用です。

無事会場に到着

ゆっくり会場で洗車・ワックス掛けをしているとPumpkin Sallyの一行も入場してきました。彼らもまったく元気です。よくあのクルマで走ってくると思います。ガッツですね、降参です。

僕は洗車・WAX掛けの際はいつも食器洗い用のビニール手袋をしています。特にショー会場では場所によっては手も洗えないような所もあるのでこれは便利ですよ。 今回ショー会場でショーカーを磨いているオーナーを久々に数名発見しました。当たり前の事ですが最近見慣れない光景だったので、嬉しかったです。

155台のカーショー、35件のベンダーブース、快晴の下15時頃、無事ショーは閉会されました。パンプキンサリー 一行は自走で帰路に着き、僕らはクラウンを運送業者に預け、飛行機で翌日のALL ODDS Nationalsに向かいました。

クラウンの全走行距離1,740km、ノートラブル、44年前の国産車とは信じられません。それと松浦君は札幌SCNの帰り、青森から自走で横浜まで戻り、今回九州まで行ってしまったのでなんと本州横断となったのでした。お疲れ様！

今回、20件のショップを訪問しました。それもポータブルカーナビのお陰です。これが無かったらこうは走れなったでしょう。ETCも勿論の事です。

最後に、今回突然の来訪にも関わらず気持ち良く対応してくださった皆様に感謝すると共に、このチャンスを作る勇気を与えてくれた九州510クラブの皆様に感謝します。それと無事に1,740kmを走ってくれたクラウンにも感謝です。佐世保と広島はもう一度お邪魔します！

Saturday 23rd Sunny, today is "Hot Rides" event day. Our hotel is Only 2 miles from the event location, so there should be no worries about reaching the show. While we were washing and waxing the car, "Pumpkin Sally" Group came into the show from Tokyo area. They are fine too. I am amazed that they came this far with their cars. They have a lot of guts, I surrender. I always use rubber gloves for washing dishes when I wash cars and wax the cars. Its nice convenient things to have when you may not be able to wash hands at some show events. In this show I saw some owners waxing their cars, which I haven't seen for a while. It's nothing special but I was happy to see as it was getting rare to see people washing and waxing at show. 155 Car show, 35 vender booth under sunny blue sky the show closed after 3 pm. Group of Pumpkin Sally left to head home and we handed our Crown to Trailer company and took flight back to join the ALL ODDS Nationals next day. 1962 Toyota Crown traveled 1,088 miles (1,740km) with no troubles. It is hard to believe for the domestic Japanese car that's 44 years old. And MAPPA who went together has drove back from Sapporo SCN to, drove from Aomori far north to Home town Yokohama and traveled far west to Kyushu, so he has crossed mainland of Japan. Good Job! This time we have visited 20 shops. Portable GPS Navigation had helped us to manage this. Also Electric Toll Collecting System avoiding it pay toll fee at toll gate. Lastly we like to say Thank You to all shops who has kindly welcomed us even though we have visited all of a sudden and also like to say Thank You to Kyushu 510 Club who gave me the courage to make this chance. And like to thank my Crown to travel this 1,088 miles (1,740km) of long distance to far west. I will visit Sasebo and Hiroshima again!

九州への旅 #2

21日(木) 神戸を6：30に出発、まず岡山の"Domestic Customs"さんを尋ねる事にしました。Domestic Customsさんはエンジン換装などで有名、今年の鈴鹿SCNでMOONEYES Awardを取った1969 クラウン MS50もこのDomestic Customsさんの手による物でした。

そのクラウンを見た僕は自分のMS50（同型車）をすぐにDomestic Customsさんに送り、ALL ODDS Nationals（以下AON）まで換装を依頼したのです。しかしAON 3日前になっても動向は分からなかったのでチェックしに立ち寄りました。

結果はまだまだって感じですが、オーナーの河内さんは「9月末までに終わりますよ」って言うので本当ならいいなって感じで帰ってきました。

オーナーの藤原さんは3年前、原因不明の重い病気に掛かり、Shop経営を断念し闘病生活に入りました。そのためHymは閉店せざる得ませんでした。

その前に僕たちは広告等で気になっていたBlue Velvet'sさんへお邪魔しました。運よくオーナーの垣野内さんがいらしたのでショップ内を案内して頂きました。

ショップ奥には噂どおり床屋さんがありましたが、"床屋"とは呼べないおしゃれな"Barber shop"でした。

『近くに"平和モーターサイクル"というHCSにも参加したショップがある』と垣野内さんに教えていただいたのでそのまま平和さんにお邪魔し、HCSの御案内をさせてもらいました。平和モーターサイクルさんは欧州、国産、HDなどをカスタムする専門ショップで、今年のHCSにも参加予定との事です。

そしていよいよ20年来の取引先であり、MOONEYES創業当時からのクルマ友人でもあり、MOONEYES Dealerでありながらお好み焼き屋の「一休庵」さんへ向かいました。

オーナーの稲垣さんは先代のお好み焼き屋を"OKONOMIYAKI & TACOYAKI"に変えてしまい、ショップもまるで南国にあるかのような雰囲気。お好み焼き屋の隣には「Tiki Trip」というHawaiian Dining Cafeもあり、新しい感覚の"Okonomiyaki屋"さんです。

レジカウンターは何とMOON工房で作られたTiki Barカウンターが使われているというお洒落なお好み焼き屋さんなんです。ここでLEFTIE'S 山岡さんと合流、彼の先導で是非訪ねたかった"Junk Yard"さんへ向かいました。

オーナーの大後戸さんと弟さんの2人で運営されていて、お邪魔した時は丁度'59 Impala Convertibleが完成間近というところで今日、Bodyをシャーシーに取り付けるという話でした。質の高い仕事にビックリ、我々オッサンのやっている事はなっちゃいない、って感じでした。恐れ入りました。仕事の質の高さとショップとのアンバランスに少々驚きつつも広島はアツイ！と感じました。そう言えば奈良もアツかったな。 ■JUNK YARD■　広島県広島市佐伯区五日市町下小深川266　PHONE：082-927-4141

広島 最後の訪問ショップはVW専門店の"States"さん。昔からの一休さんグループなので面識はありましたが、ショップを訪ねるのは初めて。オーナーの谷重さんの先輩にあたる、50才近くでニートしている某T君の話で盛り上がってしまいました。

下関	色々話していると、LEFTIE'S 山岡社長が「今晩は広島に泊まりましょう」と優しい言葉を何度となく掛けてくれるのですが、その誘いを振り切り僕らは福岡を目指し、広島を出発したのは夕方6時過ぎ。山陽道の山とトンネルだらけに疲れ切り、この晩は下関で宿泊することにしました。

広島ではBlue MOON Cafeにも行きたかったのですが、営業時間の関係もあり断念しました。Blue Velvet'sさんの新店舗、山岡社長の怪しい誘い、そしてBlue MOON Cafe、ともう一度出直しが必要な広島です。 クラウンはノー トラブル、心配は消え「このクルマは行ける」と言う確信に変わって来たのもこの日でした。今日の走行距離618km、横浜から1,238kmです。

22日(金)朝、メールチェックに戸惑い、思わぬ時間を要してしまい、7時に下関を出発。

しかし、メールの普及のお陰で余計な作業が増え、出張に出ている時は疲れてしまいます。USAでは時差があるので日本の15時くらいはCaliforniaの夜11時頃、USAに居れば夜はメール対応、日本やアジアでは時差は少ないからホテルに戻ってからの作業。

メールに翻弄される自分にいい加減呆れてきますが、今これが無いと先にすすまないので仕方ないですね。Anyway、今日は佐世保バーガーの日です。

一気に佐世保を目指すけど、カーナビによると到着予想時刻は9時過ぎ。そんな時間にショップがやっているはずが無いので先に佐賀のチカラさんを訪ねる事にしました。

彼は8月、USA スタージスで開催された"AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building"で、何と全世界から選りすぐられたトップビルダーの中からトップの賞を取り、日本の「チカラ」はUSAで一気に有名になったといいます。

また、ウソか本当か分かりませんがUSAスターのBPがその1939U HDを1億5千万円で購入した、と言う噂も聞いていたので、オーナーの永田チカラさんの鼻がどんなに高くなっているか、確認に向かう事にしました。しかし期待は見事に裏切られ、佐賀のいつものチカラさんでした。

そのHDはタイヤ、リム、スポーク、エンジン等以外は全て手作り、CNC等は一切使わない手作り、完成までに約7,500時間を費やしたといいます。つまりLaborが1時間100ドルとしても工賃だけで750,000ドルですから1億2千万円-約1.3ミリオンダラーで売れても安い位です。このHDはCool Breakerに展示され、勿論HCSに出展されます。早く現車を見たいですね！奈良のImage Craft、広島のJunk Yard、そして佐賀のチカラ、日本人のCraftmanシップはすごくなってます。 ■CHICARA MOTORCYCLES■ 佐賀県佐賀郡川副町南里1967-1　PHONE：0952-34-7216 色々話をしていたら何と11時半、あわててチカラを後に向かった先は佐世保バーガーです。雑誌に取り上げられ知ったのですが、あれだけ露出があると是非食べてみたくなりますよね。このチャンスを狙っていたのです。佐世保は米軍基地があるので横浜、横須賀、沖縄と米軍のいる土地はどこでも雰囲気が似ています。なぜか空軍基地の横田とか厚木とはまた違った雰囲気です。そういえば米軍厚木基地内のBarが隔週週末（？）地域住民との親睦の為に一般開放されるそうです。雰囲気のいい場所で一杯！なんていいですね！ さて佐世保バーガーですが僕は「Big Man」と「ハンバーガーショップ ヒカリ」という2店のハンバーガーを食べました。MOON Cafeのとは違いますがボリュームがあり、一度食する価値はあると思います。

佐世保の次は長崎の"Shirley Mama"さん。佐世保－長崎というと近い感じがしますがそうでもないのです。Shirleyさんの入江社長は翌日のイベントに参加するクルマの整備等で忙しい中、時間を割いて頂きありがとうございました。

そして遂に、このトリップ最後の訪問Shop、"HARFEE'S"さんです。長崎から福岡に戻る行程です。クルマの使い方がまるでレンタカーのようになってきました。下関から福岡をパスし佐世保、長崎、鳥栖経由福岡そして宿泊地鳥栖へ戻るのですが、車は1962年、44年前のクラウンです。でも快調に走っているのでもう行くところまで行くようです。

という事でHARFEE'Sの旗生（はたぶ）社長に会いに一路福岡を目指しました。九州に入って気づいたのは営業車のProboxが大変多い事です。高速で目の前に3台は必ずいます。驚きです。リースアップそろそろかもしれませんね、期待できます。 HARFEE'Sさんの作るVWや国産車は楽しいというよりカッコいいのです。昔から気になっていながら一度もお邪魔した事が無かったので今回は楽しみなショップが最後の訪問先となりました。僕が思うにはVW T-1では群を抜いたアイデアとカッコ良さ、国産車でもそのセンスは十分発揮されています。昔一部のVW好き人達に一時Mini Truckが流行った時がありましたが、その時も彼らの作るMini Truckは他のとは違ってカッコよかったのです。VW好きのセンスは何かが違うのかもしれません。

そんなセンスの光るHARFEE'Sさんは、カッコいいVW&国産車販売メインのHARFEE'S CLASSICSを街道沿いにオープンし、VWのチューンアップからクルマ販売まで広く手掛けるようになりました。ここのHARFEE'S CLASSICSにも旗生さんのセンスが十分生かされています。

		九州にVW&国産旧車のHARFEE'Sありと言った感じでまた勉強になりました。

Left Kobe at 6:30 am on Thursday 21st , first headed to "Domestic Customs" at Okayama. "Domestic Customs" is famous for swapping engines, they have won the MOONEYES Award at this years "Suzuka Street Car Nationals" with 1969 Toyota Crown MS50 which was build by them too with engine swapped. After I saw that Crown I sent my same Toyota Crown MS50 sedan to have engine swapped for completion before our event "ALL ODDS Nationals (AON)". But even 3 days before the show no notice was made so I stopped by to check. Result was still far from goal although owner Mr. Kouchi said it will be done by end of September which it will be very nice if so. After that was "Hym" at Kurasiki. Owner Mr. Fujiwara had to close shop 3 years ago due to his unknown illness and left shop to fight against his illness. Hym had to be closed due to that. But he has fight against his illness and slowly getting ready to start shop again. So, I came to visit him to see his recovery. It was strange as shutter was half closed at shop, he told us that he will get fever, if he stayed out under sunlight too long. I said "take it easy" on running a shop as rehabilitation to him and was happy to see the shop reopened. For people in Kurasiki area, Hym has reopened, business hours are short so please ring up before you go to the shop. From Kurasiki we headed straight to Hiroshima. In Hiroshima I wanted to visit "LEFTIE'S", "Blue Velvet's", "Junk Yard" and Old MOONEYES Dealer and Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) restaurant called "Ikkyu-an". First we were driving through city to visit "LEFTIE'S" but found "BB Custom Factory" HD shop who had entry to HCS and quickly stop by to say hi. We then headed to "LEFTIE'S" but owner Mr. Yamaoka was out. "LEFTIE'S" staff was kind enough to contact and decided to meet up in "Ikkyu-an". We visited "Blue Velvet's" who has interesting advertisement in magazine. We were lucky enough to meet up with owner Mr. Kakinouchi and he lead us for shop tour. Far inside shop there was a barbershop which was so nice and in style that was unsuitable to call as barbershop. The "Blue Velvet's" will have restaurant open on second floor above car sales floor. Cars and foods, sounds interesting, must come to see when it opens. And thank you for welcoming us on our sudden visit. Mr. Kakinouchi told us there was a shop called "HEIWA Motorcycle" who made entry to last year's HCS, so we made a visit and introduced for this year's entry too. "HEIWA Motorcycle" is custom motorcycle shop specialize in European, Domestic and HD and they plan to make entry on this years HCS too. Finally we went to the "Ikkyu-an", we had trade history of 20 years, car friend since the foundation of MOONEYES Japan and MOONEYES Dealer but "Okonomiyaki (Japanese unsweetened Pancake)" Restaurant. He is unusual case for other MOONEYES dealers. Ikkyu-an's unsweetened pancake called "Ikkyu-an Yaki" and Mayonnaise filled Tacoyaki "MAYOTACO"! They are very good. But TACO is not TACOS, TACO means octopus in Japanese. Mayo with Octopus, very good! You'd better try it. Owner Mr. Inagaki has changed old family business OKONOMIYAKI to New "OKONOMIYAKI" and "TACOYAKI". Shop was changed to Southern Island style with "Tiki Trip" Hawaiian Dining Cafe at next door. This Okonomiyaki restaurant is so stylish with the Hawaiian Tiki Bar Counter made by MOONEYES Woody Works was used as cash register counter. Here we meet up with Mr. Yamaoka of LEFTIE'S, with his guidance we have visited long wanted to see shop called "Junk Yard". "Junk Yard" has won the Best Low Rider Award at last years HCS with 1952 Chevy Pick Up. And won COOL Award in this years "Suzuka Street Car Nationals" with 1961 Impala convertible. The shop has real ability as they collected 16 award Trophies with Chevy Pick Up in this year. Shop called "Junk Yard", but cars they build is not Junk, it's jewel! The shop is run by owner Mr. Osedo and his brother. When we visited the shop, 1959 Impala Convertible was getting close to finish and they were loading body on to frame. Surprised to see the high quality work and made us feel our old man generation recalls days without this high quality. Excuse me. I was little surprised to see the unbalance of shop verses quality of work and felt it was HOT in Hiroshima. By the way Nara was HOT too. Last shop visited in Hiroshima was VW specialist "States". He was one of the Ikkyu-an group. So I knew him well but it was first time for me to visit his shop. While talking with Owner Mr. Tanishige, we were getting good talk about Mr.T who is doing nothing with age of 50 and senior to Mr. Tanishige. While we are talking many things, Mr. Yamaoka of LEFTIE'S had kindly asked us to "Stay over in Hiroshima tonight" but we had tried to get to Fukuoka, 150 miles away and left Hiroshima after 6pm. In mountain and Tunnels of Sanyoudou highway, we were worned out and stayed over in Shimonoseki. We gave up to go to Fukuoka. We wanted to visit "Blue MOON Cafe" in Hiroshima but we didn't try due to their open hours. Blue Velvet's New Shop, Mr. Yamaoka's invitation and Blue MOON Cafe, so we need to come back again to Hiroshima. My 1962 Toyota Crown had no trouble yet, I had no worries and it was on that day I was sure that this car can travel the long distance. Today's traveled distance was 386 miles (618km), 774 miles (1238km) from Yokohama. Friday 22nd morning, Left Shimonoseki at 7am as checking my e-mails took longer than expected. The existence e-mail made more work to do during the business trip and is tiring. When I am on business trip to USA, 11pm in California is 3pm in Japan, so at night, always work with e-mails. And in Japan and Asia there is no time difference so work is done in hotel in the night. Getting tiｒed with e-mails is not good thing but cant get jobs done without it now a days. Anyway, Today's object is Sasebo Hamburger. We first try to reach Sasebo in one shot but as an estimated time of arrival is 9 o'clock and the shop must be still closed on that time, We decided to visit "CHICARA Motorcycles" in Saga first. Chicara means "Power" Japanese. He has won Top Award at "AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building" in August, 2006 at Sturgis, USA. Among all the top builders around the world CHICARA's 1939 U HD has won the Trophy. This Award has made him famous in USA in one shot. Plus we don't know if its true but we heard rumor that Some American Movie Star has bought that HD at 1.3 milion dollars, WOW!, sound good, ha! So we decided to visit CHICARA and see how much owner Mr. Nagata Chicara has gained his pride. But against our expectation he was usual CHICARA of Saga city. The HD has all hand made parts except tires, rims, spokes, Engine etc. Never used CNC and about 7,500 hours was spent to build this HD. With 100 dollars/hour labor rate, labor cost is 750,000 dollars so 1.3 million dollars selling price is actually cheap. This HD will be on display at "Cool Breaker" in Japan, and of course it will be displayed at our HCS in Yokohama Japan too. Want to see the real bike soon! "Image Craft" of Nara, "Junk Yard" of Hiroshima and "CHICARA" of Saga, like them Japanese craftsmanship is great and gaining attention and reputation. Conversation went on and It was already 11:30am when we realized time fly by. We left "CHICARA" and headed to Sasebo Hamburgers. I got to know Sasebo Hamburger on some magazine, with increasing exposure it makes me and anyone to try and taste. I was looking for this chance. Sasebo has US Navy base and its like Yokohama, Yokosuka and Okinawa all areas with US base has same atmosphere. It is strange that Air base has different taste like in Yokota and Atsugi. By the way Bar in US Air force Atsugi base will be open for Japanese public on even weekends, aim is to communicate with locals and promote mutual friendship. It will be great to have a drink at bar with nice atmosphere. Back to the Sasebo Hamburger, I tried hamburger at shop called "Big Man" and "Hikari". Its different from MOON Cafe's, they have good volume and think its worth a try. The both shops were crowded with people, probably a lots of tourist. There were more shops that have Sasebo Hamburgers but we couldn't go around all. We were so into hamburgers and passed by Sasebo's MOONEYES Dealer "CAL'S ROD SERVICE". Excuse us Owner Mr. Murashima we will come back again and please take us to good Sasebo Hamburger when we come. After Sasebo is Nagasaki, "Shirley Mama". Sasebo and Nagasaki sounds near but its actually not. We like to thank Shirley Mama owner Mr. Irie for spending time with us even he was busy on maintenance of cars going out on event on next day. In September Mrs. Irie has opened Medical Aroma Therapy Treatment & Goods "Blue Lei" in Nagasaki Isahaya city by the sea. I have visited long time ago, that shop location has great ocean view and I am sure your body and mind will feel great with great ocean view and Medical Aroma Therapy Treatment. Finally the last stop of this trip is Shop "HARFEE'S". Its on the way back from Nagasaki to Fukuoka. Its like using a rent car and going circle in Kyushu to visit major places. Entered Kyushu far west at Shimonoseki, passed Fukuoka, went Sasebo, Nagasaki, Tosu, Fukuoka and back to Tosu to stay over night, but this trip is done on 1962 Toyota Crown, 44 years old car. But as it is still driving in best condition, I think we can go as far as we can. So we headed to Fukuoka to see owner Mr. Hatabu of "HARFEE'S". I have noticed there are so many Toyota Probox driving around in Kyushu, almost all the time we saw at least 3 Probox running ahead of us every time. They were all company car and sales man carrying something and traveling around. Soon may be the lease will end and may have chance to get one for customs. HARFEE'S VW and Domestic cars are Cool rather than fun. I have always wanted to see but never stopped by. So it was pleasure to see the last shop. I think they have great idea for and made Cool VW T-1 by far. Their sense has been proven on the Domestic cars too. Back in days when part of VW enthusiast had owned Mini Trucks, they also had Mini Trucks that were cool and different from others. VW enthusiast may have something different about sense and style. That HARFEE'S with sense and style has opened cool VW and Domestic car sales shop "HARFEE'S CLASSICS" on along the major boulevard and services VW tune up to Domestic car sales. This HARFEE'S CLASSICS had shown some nice sense of Mr. Hatabu too. HARFEE'S with VW and Domestic is open here at Kyushu, it has been a great study. After traveling all the shops, there were so many things we have studied, so many surprises and impressive things seen on this trip. HARFEE'S is also event staff for tomorrows event so we will go before we take too much of their time and headed to Tosu the last place to stay. The traveled distance was 320 mile (510km) on that day, total distance traveled was 1,088 miles (1,740km). We have traveled great distance. This Crowns Odometer reads 30,000 miles (48,000km), It was like driving 5 years old with 31,250 miles (50,000km) 1962 Toyota Crown in 1967 and traveling from Yokohama to Kyushu. Hope you understand. I had this car for 18 years and I didn't know this car was this good until we traveled this far. Also like to thank NAS for maintenance. This car cruised 65 miles per hour easily on high way. Impressive, as it was luxury car back then in old days.

九州への旅 #1

岡崎へ	9月19日(火) 予定の出発時間より早く横浜 本牧をスタッフの松浦君と出発、愛知県岡崎市に向かいました。岡崎に向かった理由はMOON Cafeの御園店長の友人がタコスを提供する飲食店をやっていて、何でもそこのタコスの皮は手作りのコーン トルティーアとの事、是非一度食べてみたいと思っていたのでチャンスは今日しかない！と急遽15時頃に岡崎を目指し出発しました。

今回の九州までのロングドライブの目的は12月3日(日) 横浜で開催するHOT ROD・Custom Show（以後HCS）の宣伝と、取引がありながら今までお邪魔した事のないShopさんを訪問することでした。昔、Dean MOONが僕に「リタイヤしたらキャンパーに乗って、アメリカ中にある取引先を廻るんだ」と言ってましたが結局実現できず、その言葉が頭に残っていたので、九州 鳥栖市で開催されるHot Ridesにあわせ、東海道・山陽道を南下しながら知っているShopを訪問する事にしたのです。

岡崎でMOONステッカー発見

その一番初めのShopは"CacTuses-キャクティス"。東名からはちょっと距離がありましたが、噂通りタコス美味しかったです。岡崎には古くからのMOONEYES Dealer "Hot Company"があり、突然の来訪にも社長の五十嵐さんは快くキャクティスまで来てくれて、また、"Fellow's"の松岡社長も友人の森下さんと一緒に来てくれました。

翌日、20日(水)は名古屋地区を廻り、出来れば岡山を目指すつもりでした。

その後、昨晩ご一緒したFellow'sさんへ。実は前の晩にお邪魔する旨を話したら真剣に「来ないで下さい」って言われていたので、これは絶対にお邪魔しないといけないと思い、彼の言葉は無視してお邪魔しました。「Strongers」というカークラブをやり、HCSでは特徴ある国産カスタムで数々の賞を取っている実力ショップです。

Bordersさんは長いお付き合いでありながら、Shopに一度もお邪魔した事が無かったのです。Shopは綺麗に整理され、Kustomのクルマが何台もあり、Shop内のOfficeもこれまた綺麗に部品やHot Wheelが展示され、久々に小売商なるものを見た感じがし、来た甲斐がありました。残念ながら社長の加藤さんは不在でしたが、加藤さんの奥様が気持ち良く案内してくれました。 ■Borders■　http://www.sun-inet.or.jp/~borders/

さて次は毎年HCSにJene Winfieldと共に参加してくれる、USAホイルとタイヤの専門ショップ"Wheels Unlimited"さんです。

お邪魔して驚いたのは、よくこんなに古い、それも価値ありのホイルをここ日本で持ってますねって感じです。USAなら価値が分かる人もいると思いますが、日本でこれら希少ホイルを販売するのは？？君たちは偉い！僕も欲しいホイルが沢山ありました。ただ唖然です。こちらは桜木さん兄弟で運営しているショップでタイヤ・ホイルの事は何でも聞いてください。でもFWD車のホイルは聞かない方がいいかな？！ ■Wheels Unlimited■　http://www.kustomwheel.com 愛知県西春日井郡春日町下之郷川中159　PHONE：052-401-3848

そのまま東名阪道に乗り、四日市の"Shoe Box"さんへ。

その後、名神高速道路に戻る予定でしたが、せっかく四日市まで来たのだからそのまま東名阪道で奈良の"Image Craft"さんを目指しました。実は東名阪道は鈴鹿を越すと奈良あたりまで坂道が多くなり、1,900ccのクラウンにはちょっと無理があるかな？と思っていました。

しかしそんな心配は無用、何の問題も無くImage Craftさんに到着、Shopでは丁度Chevy Pick UpのSlammed加工の真っ最中、物凄い加工が施されていました。

On Tuesday September 19th I have left Honmoku, Yokohama early with staff Mappa and headed to Okazaki city in Aichi, a Midland city of Japan by 1,900cc (122ci), 4 cylinder, 1962 Toyota Crown Stationwagon. The reason for going to Okazaki city was to eat hand made Corn Tortia Tacos at MOON Cafe's Manager, Misono's friend's restaurant in Okazaki and I knew that chances of having that tacos was only on that day. So we headed out to Okazaki at 3 o'clock in afternoon. The purpose of this long drive trip to Kyushu the far west Japan is advertisement and promotion of this year's HOT ROD Custom Show (HCS in short ) which is held on December 3rd. and visiting customers whom we trade but never been before. Back in days Dean MOON told me "When I retire, I will travel across the United states and visit all the dealers" but this was never realized and I could not forget his word so I decided to travel across Japan to far west Kyushu City of Tosu for event called "Hot Rides" and visit the dealers on the way. The first shop of the tour was "CACTUSES" and their TACOS was delicious as said to be, a little far from Toumei Highway. In Okazaki, there is MOONEYES Dealer called "Hot Company" who has been our dealer from old days and owner Mr. Igarashi has kindly came to CACTUSES to join us in sudden visit with "Fellow's" owner Mr. Matsuoka and his friend Mr. Morishita also joined us at CACTUSES. That night we end up going back 22 miles to Tokyo and stayed near by Toyohashi station. Lost 45 miles for going back and forth. Next day on Wednesday 20th, We went around Nagoya area and hoping to visit Okayama (300miles away) too. First we visited "Cokie's AUTOMOTIVE" at Anjyo city where American cars and parts sales are main business. We have surprised owner Mr.Fujii. Sorry! Then we went to visit "Fellow's". Last night when we were eating TACOS we have asked if we can visit and seriously he was saying "NO" which we take It as means yes and visited them. Fellow's host car club called "Strongers" and has real ability as at HCS they received many trophies for unique Domestic cars. The shop has some taste and recognized why they prefer us not visiting we have headed to "Borders" who built famous Shu-Marc and J-Marc, specializing for Mercury kustoms. As you may know their Merc was modeled for Hot Wheels a while ago. It has been a long relationship between Borders but didn't have chance to visit their shop. Shop was clean and tidy with number of Kustom cars and Office in shop was also clean with parts and Hot Wheels were displayed. Every thing remind us of a real Retail store and worth paying a visit. Unfortunately owner Mr. Kato was out but Mrs. Kato kindly showed us around. Next was USA wheel and Tire specialist shop called "Wheels Unlimited" who join us at HCS every year with Jene Winfield. I was surprise to see many rare old wheels were at there in shop existing in Japan. There must be many people who understand value of these wheels in USA but in Japan that questionable. You guys are brave! There were many wheels that I wished I had too. Really just amazing. The Wheels Unlimited is run by Sakuragi brothers please ask about wheels and tires, I am sure they can be your help. But may be not wheels for Front Wheel Drive!? Next we stopped by "Good Fellows" who has many interesting US cars but unfortunately they were out. We got on Higashi Meihando highway and headed to "Shoe Box" in Yokkaichi city. I have passed by this shop every year on the way to Suzuka Street Car Nationals and always wanted to stop by, so it was great to see. Owner Mr. Kawamura is big fun of Barris and that means he loves Kustom. By looking at these shops in Toukai area are real Kustom Cities. We had planed to go back on Toumei Highway but as we came to Yokkaichi we went on Higashi Meihando Highway to Nara to visit "Image Craft". Higashi Meihando highway has steep hills after passing Suzuka and was worried if 122 cubic inch Toyota Crowns could make it on this hill but there were no need to worry as we arrived safely at Image Craft. When we arrived to the shop, Chevy pick up was in amazing process of slammed. Image Craft has made the famous Slammed 1987 El Camino and is famous for slammed pick ups. Owner Mr. Kishihara had bout us dinner and stayed at Kobe in stead of Okayama as for the Toyota Crown, There were no trouble and cruised very nicely. The distance so far was 383 miles.

横浜 Old School レストラン #2 「HOF BRAU - ホフブロウ」

ここまで来ました！ 関門橋を渡り、ついに九州に入ります。走行距離約1,300キロ、一路 佐世保バーガーの佐世保へ！

	鳥栖に無事到着。

さて、最近また食べ物のネタが多くなってきました。横浜で紹介したいOld School なレストラン・バーが、あとまだ4-5軒ありますのでお付き合い下さい。

	今回は本牧ではなく、山下公園近くの"THE HOF BRAU Restaurant & Pub / ホフブロウ　レストラン＆パブ"を紹介します。創業55年、昔は外国航路の大型客船が到着する大桟橋の入り口、シルクホテル横にありましたが、25年位前に今の場所に移転したそうです。 昔の店は外国の平屋の一軒家みたいな大変雰囲気のあるレストランでした。

今の店も内装にWoodを多用した落ち着いた雰囲気、昭和を感じるテーブル・椅子、レストランと壁一つ隔て、長いカウンターの本格的バー。レストランが一杯な時はこのバーで一杯飲みながらWaitingが出来るしゃれたレストランです。近くには中華街、山下公園、元町、ニューグランドホテル等もあるグッド ロケーションです。 昔、ホフブロウと言えばその建物と、メニューのジャーマンポテト、スパピザ＆四角いPizza。そして注文を取りに来てどっちがお客なのか分からない位緊張させられた、おっかない女性店員2名、が名物でした。この2人とにかくおっかない。感じが悪いのではなくおっかないのです。ラーメン屋の頑固親父よりおっかなかったな～。両名共随分前にリタイヤしたようなので、今はリラックスして注文できますから御安心下さい。

名物のおっかない2人と建物はなくなりましたましたが、メニューは健在です。僕のお薦めはナポリタン スパゲティーにピザのようにチーズをのせそれをオーブンで焼くスパピザです。香ばしいチーズの香りとカリカリになったチーズの食感、量も味も最高の一品です。

そして昔ながらの薄い生地で作られる横浜名物？四角ピザ。今回はガーリックピザとミックスピザを注文しました。 生地もカリカリ、チーズもカリカリ、これまた香ばしいOld School Pizzaです。ピザもどんどん日本風になり、お好み焼き化している最近ですが、正統派Pizzaに出会えるとうれしいですね！

Old School Restaurant in Yokohama #2: "THE HOF BRAU" We came this far to far west Japan! Crossed over the Kanmon Bridge into Kyushu far west. Drove 1,300 kilo/820 miles. We will head to Sasebo, origin of Sasebo Burger! ... And we have safely arrived to Tosu. More food talk to come. There are 4 or 5 more Old School Restaurants in Yokohama which I want to introduce, so please bear with me. This one is not in Honmoku Area but in Yamashita Park Area by the sea called "THE HOF BRAU" Restaurant & Pub. 55 years in business, used to be located at corner of Osanbashi (Big Pier for large vessels) beside Old Silk Hotel (now called Silk Center) where the big cruise boat land to Japan from abroad and was entrance to all Yokohama. "THE HOF BRAU" moved to current place about 25 years ago. The old location was one story house like the one seen in overseas with very nice atmosphere. The current place also has nice calm atmosphere with wooden interior, chairs and tables are from 60's and long wood counter bar separated from restaurant by wall is where you can spend a time with drink while you wait for your table. It is excellent location with famous places of Yokohama like Chinatown, Yamashita Park, Motomachi, New Grand Hotel and more. Back then "THE HOF BRAU" was famous for its architecture, menu like German Potato, Spaghetti Pizza and Square Pizza and the two old lady waitresses were scares you like you feel too tense and make you feel like not a customer. These waitresses were not impolite, but simply scarily. Scarily than owner chef of Ramen restaurant(Noodle House in Japan). The two has retired long ago so please don't worry about ordering you can order without being tensed. The famous two waitress and the architecture are gone but the menu still exist. My favorite menu is "Spa-Pizza" which has cheese on top of spaghetti like pizza and cooked in oven. Nice smell of cheese, crispy feel on oven cooked cheese and its one menu with best taste and volume. And the "Square Pizza" with that thin dough from old days, a famous food of Yokohama. This time I had Garlic Pizza and Mix Pizza. This is an Old School Pizza also comes with nice smell. Now days Pizza in Japan became more like Japanese pancake food "Okonomiyaki" and converted to suit the Japanese food style using toppings, so it's always nice to see this Genuine Pizza. Last menu is German Potato Salad, little spicy and lightly seasoned salad. In these 30 years, I always order this German Potato salad, Spa-Pizza & Pizza. This 3 menu are all I need. 遠くに行きたい？！行きたくない？！

去年、九州 鳥栖市で開催された"Hot Rides"で会った人達に「今度はCrownで来て下さい」って言われ、ズーっと気になっていたので、今回僕の1962年型 Crown Stationwagon、通称 涙テールで自走して、9月23日(土)に開催される"Hot Rides"に行く事にしました。

何年も前に一度、Blue PanicのMr. Blueこと金子大社長と2人でMOON Glowで自走した経験があります。その時はノントラブルで九州まで行ったのですが、カーナビがMr. Blue、まったく頼りにならなかったので今回はポータブルGPSを購入しました。そしてETCもあるし、あとはクルマが持つかどうかです。 夏前に静岡のイベントに行った際、電気系統がおかしくなり帰路、富士から積載車のお世話になったのですが、今回は何処までたどり着けるのでしょうか？それより修理はちゃんと出来ているのでしょうか？修理屋さん、ちょっと不安です。 予定では19日(火)の夜に横浜出発、静岡辺りで一泊し、20日(水)は出来れば一気に岡山辺りまで行きたいです。きっとこのブログを皆さんが読んでいる頃、僕は快調に東名高速を走っていると思います（？）。21日(木)中には九州のどこかに入り、22日(金)は九州をブラブラ、佐世保バーガーを食べてみたいし、今年のUSAのHDイベント、スタージスで1等賞を取ったチカラさんにも会いたいなって思ってます。そして23日(土）は1日イベントって感じです。 なぜこんなに日にちが掛かるかって言うと途中、沢山寄り道をしようと思っているからなのです。24日(日)は横浜でウチ主催のイベント "All Odds Nationals"があるので、23日(土)イベント終了後、Crownを積載業者に回送してもらい、その日のうちに飛行機で横浜に戻る予定です。九州にたどり着けば帰りは楽チンなんです。

"Want to go far?!" When I went to last years “Hot Rides” car show event in Kyushu west end Japan, so many people asked me to come to the next show with my 1962 Toyota Crown Stationwagon. I had this in my mind for long time and this year I have decided to take my 1962 Toyota Crown Stationwagon called "Tear Drop Tail Lamp" by Japanese Domestic Car enthusiast and actually drive this 500 miles long distance all the way to "Hot Rides" hosted on Saturday, September 23rd in Kyushu far west end Japan. I had once tried this long distance drive before on our 1975 Mitsubishi Debonair called "MOON Glow" with Mr. Blue the president of "Blue Panic" car sales. We reached Kyushu without a trouble but because our navigator was Mr. Blue and his direction was not always trustable. So I have learned and purchased new portable GPS for this trip. I also have "ETC" the Electric Toll Collecting system, which allows me to avoid line up at toll gate for payment. And the rest is up to "if" my car can go that far. When I went to the event in Shizuoka about 190 miles in distance before summer, there was an electric trouble on the way back and trailer was called in to pick it up in Fuji about 100 miles away from home. I wonder how far we can go this time. I am little worried if that trouble was really repaired right. According to the plan, we will leave Yokohama on Tuesday 19th night and spend one night at some where in Shizuoka, on Wednesday 20th I want to drive all the way to Okayama about 300 miles. I should be cruising on Toumei Highway while every one is reading this. On Thursday 21st I should be in Kyushu somewhere and on Friday 22nd I will be looking around and try to eat Big Sasebo Hamburger and try to meet Mr. Chicara who won 1st prize at this years USA HD event "AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building" if I can. On Saturday 23rd will be show day all day. Reason why I am taking long time for this trip is that I want to stop by many places. On Sunday 24th there is an event hosted by us called "All Odds Nationals" at Yokohama, so after this event on Saturday 23rd My Crown will be picked up by transporter and I will be catching plane back home to Yokohama. Coming back will be an easy task, if I make it to Kyushu far west Japan.

草加煎餅で有名な埼玉県草加市へ行ってきました

		9月1日、草加煎餅で有名な埼玉県草加市に日本車旧車専門ショップ、"バラクーダ"がオープンしました。オーナーの飯田さんが長年集めた貴重な部品、特にニッサン車を中心にNOSパーツを扱っています。

NOS？聞きなれない言葉かもしれません。日本では古い物で残っている物を総称してデッドストックといいますが、USAでは古いままの状態で新品の物を"NOS - New Old Stock"と呼んでいます。NOS（ノスではなく、エヌオーエスです）と呼ぶ方が価値観がある感じがしませんか？デッドストックというと何か売れ残りみたいで安くないといけないような感じがしますが、USAでNOSとして売られている部品はそれなりの金額になっています。

	Anyway、そのような貴重パーツを販売するのが"バラクーダ"です。飯田さんはこの道ではかなりな有名人、特徴あるヘアースタイルですからイベントで会っている方も多いと思います。旧車の販売からメンテナンス、カスタムまで何でもこなせる大変器用な方です。

国内旧車だけでなくUSAから左ハンドルの日本車の輸入もやっていますので、興味のある方は相談してみてください。東京都内からもそんなに遠くない場所で大変便利です。ニッサン車メインと言いつつ、店頭にはハイエースも並ぶオーナーの柔軟姿勢が"バラクーダ"の特徴です。古いパーツで困っている方には力強いショップの誕生です。 "バラクーダ"のちょっと先には、国産バイクをカスタムしたら右に出るショップは無いと言われ、2005年のHCSでBest of Motorcycle Awardに輝いたYamaha XS650 Chopperを製作した"Brat Style"があり、相談事もあったのでブラッと寄ってみました。

オーナーの高嶺さんは沖縄出身、沖縄の象徴 シーサーのシフトノブなんかもあったり、遊び心満点、でも製作しているバイクは凄い、ビックリです。

ショップは4人でフル回転、大忙し状態、国産・Triumph・HD何でもこなし、Chopper & Bobberならここ"Brat Style"が一番です。2006年のHCSにも何か素晴らしい物を持って来てください。 残念ながら草加煎餅は買えませんでした。

On September 1st, in Souka-city, Japan where is famous for Japanese rice cookies, special shop for Old Japanese Car "Barracuda" has opened. Owner Mr. IIDA has very rare collection of parts specially for Nissan NOS parts. NOS may sounds new to Japanese. It stands for New Old Stock and sounds nicer than the Dead Stock as they say in Japanese with more value to it. Dead Stock sounds kike left over but these parts at Barracuda is well premium parts. So that's kind of premium and important part is sold at Barracuda. Mr. IIDA is very famous in this field and with unique hairstyle many people recognize him at the events. From sales of Old Domestic Japanese Cars to importing Left Hand Drive Japanese export models with maintenance and custom and all round, very flexible. Please ask for your inquiry. It's not that far from down town Tokyo. Nissan sounds main but Hiace Toyotas are lined up in front of store, flexible is owners unique point which is reflected there. Very dependable store for people looking for Old Japanese Car parts. In little ahead from Barracuda there is Japanese Domestic Motorcycle Custom Shop that is said to be number one in making custom bike from Japanese bike called "Brat Style" who has won our HCS Best of Motorcycle Award last year with Yamaha XS650 Chopper. I dropped by to see his shop since I had few questions to ask. Owner Mr.Takamine is from Okinawa and uses SEACER the creature represent Okinawa for shift knobs and very fun but at same time very serious works are in his workshop. To make Japanese bike into a Chopper and Bobber there are lots of point to clear. Specially the problem was the frame was not ridged and he has cleared that point. Domestic Chopper became better looking. I wished this shop was there 35 years ago. The shop is very busy with four people working full swing, with Domestics, Triumphs, HDs and all , For Chopper and Bobber the "Brat Style" is best shop. Hope they bring nice bike on this year's HCS in December. Too bad that I couldn't try the Souka Senbei (rice cookies).

HWY クルーズ

	ブログ丸々1週間お休みを頂きました。 さて5月28日(日)、静岡県掛川で開催されたNHOA主催のNAKAYOSHI HOT OLD'S MEETに参加してきました。

朝の時点では横浜は雨、しかし天気予報では天気は西から急速に回復して来るとの事だったので、意を決して1963年型 クラウン RS46-G 通称「涙テール」 ステーションワゴンと、

	もう一台、1969年型 クラウン RS56 左ハンドルのピックアップの2台で雨降る横浜を出発しました。 東名を西に向かっても一向に天気は回復せず、御殿場周辺ではご覧のようなひどい降りとなってしまいました。

しかし富士辺りから小雨となり、富士川SAで1964年型 クラウン RS46V 通称「丸テール」と1966年型 クラウン MS46 通称「角テール」 ピックアップと合流し、4世代のクラウンで掛川を目指したのです。4台とも室内が曇ってしまうので雨だというのに窓を開けての走行となったのは言うまでもありません。

現地が近づくと曇り空となり、現地に到着した時はすっかり雨も上がって、沢山の車が集まっていました。午後には強い日差しとなり、最高のイベントとなりました。のんびりした良いイベントでしたよ。今年参加できなかった方、来年は是非参加しましょう。 実は今まで「涙テール」ではあまり長距離を走った事が無かったのです。走っても精々東京周辺のイベントくらいでした。今回は大冒険でしたが想像通りやはり壊れました。行きの足柄SAで休憩後出発するとオーバードライブに入らなくなり、ウインカーも点滅しなくなり、ライトをつけるとオーバードライブに入ったり、電気系統のトラブルに見舞われてしまいました。オーバードライブがあると100キロくらいで巡航できるのですが、それが使えないと80キロ位でもエンジンは唸り、心配になってしまいます。

結果、帰りは富士のVannuysさんまでたどり着き、そこからは積載車のお世話になってしまいました。その帰りの東名でVannuys時田さんがドライブするセドリックのショットです。雰囲気ありますね。でもこのバイアスタイヤで高速を走るのは怖いでしょう。

セドリックは1964年型ですが、涙テールの1963年型クラウンと比べると随分古い感じがしますね。時田さんと言えばUSAカスタムのオーソリティーですが、実は国産旧車も大好きなんです。

今回の写真、私がドライブする「涙テール」の走行写真はRS56に同乗するスタッフが撮ってくれましたが、それ以外の写真は涙テールを運転しながらの撮影でした。一眼レフ、オートフォーカス、ワイドレンズの賜物です。車は走っている姿が一番かっこいいですね！

"HWY Cruise" I had one week off last week. On last Sunday 28th May, I went to event in Kakegawa, Shizuoka, Japan which was hosted by the NHOA, the NAKAYOSHI HOT OLD'S MEET. It was raining in morning and with hope as weather forecast called for recovery from west side, I have made big decision to drive to event on 1963 TOYOTA Crown RS46G "Teardrop Tail" Stationwagon and one more 1969 TOYOTA Crown RS56 Left driver Pick up and left Yokohama in rain. Going west on "TOUMEI" HIGH WAY, rain was not getting better but worse. It was pouring in Gotenba area. But gradually rain became weak after passing FUJI. In Fujikawa Service Area , 1964 TOYOTA Crown RS46V "Round Tail" and 1966 TOYOTA MS46 "Square Tail" Pick up joined us and 4 generation TOYOTA Crown were lined to cruise to the event. Even in the rain all four cars had windows open to clear up the windows from mist. Weather turn to cloudy as we reached closer to the event and by the time we arrived the rain was cleared up and many cars were gathered at the show. Even the sun came out in afternoon and event turned out to be great with strong sunshine. It was relaxed event and I really recommend you to attend next year. I had not taken my "Teardrop Tail" wagon out on long distance trip. And usually up to Tokyo from Yokohama, it's about 80km or less. This event was a long trip for first time and car broke as I expected. On the way to the event, leaving out from Ashigara Service Area and going back on the free way, Couldn't shift up to Overdrive shift and turn signal didn't turn on and when the light is on the shift went up to Overdrive. It was an electric problem. The motor screams without Overdrive shift in 80 km/hour, 100km cruise was possible if Overdrive was on. Under the circumstances, on the way back I have drove car to car shop "Vannuys" and was towed from there. The Vannuys Mr.Tokita drives this Nissan Cedric Wagon. It has style. But its scarily to drive on highway with this Bias Tires. This Cedric is 1964 model but seems older than the 1963 Teardrop Toyota Crown. Mr.Tokita is famous for being authority for California style Custom in Japan but he is also big fun of Old Japanese Domestics. The picture of my "Teardrop Tail" Crown cruising on highway was taken by the passenger(our Staff) on RS56 Crown Pick up But all other picture was taken while I was driving. It was possible because of the single lens reflex camera with wide lens and auto focus. Car looks cool when cruising.

九州で見たクラウン

先週末、九州の大牟田で開催されたブルーパニック主催のトラックマスターズで見かけた、綺麗な通称「丸テール」クラウン カスタムです。 モールが2本のDxモール、テールゲートにもアルミのガーニッシュが付き、4ナンバーのマスターライン バンとは一味違う高級感があります。内装もオリジナルの様でした。 こんな状態の良いRS46Gはなかなか見かけません。

国産旧車をオリジナルで乗る場合、ホワイトリボンタイヤのサイズが難しいです。ホワイトリボンタイヤはUSAには沢山のメーカー＆サイズがありますが、日本車にピッタリ合うのがありません。殆どが太いか細いか、ちょうどいいサイズのタイヤが欲しいですね。やはりクラウンは丸テールのショートノーズがカッコイイですね。

"TOYOTA CROWN I saw in Kyushu Japan" I saw a nice "Round Tail Lamp" 1964 Toyota Crown Custom RS46G at Truck Masters Show at OOMUTA, KYUSHU JAPAN on last weekend. It has a Deluxe Two molding all around, Aluminum Garnish on Tail gate which makes difference from Commercial Van called "Masterline" model with more prestige. Interior was an original too. It is really rare to see this nice RS46G. To ride original Japanese domestic cars, it is a difficult task to find a matching white ribbon tire. There are many makes and size for white ribbon tires in USA market but difficult to find right size to fit on Japanese domestic. Either too fat or too thin, need just right size. Think Short Nose Round Tail Crown is coolest among the old Crowns. トヨタ スタウト - TOYOTA Staut

日本でもその大きさとUSA的雰囲気からカスタムの題材に多々取り上げられるトヨタ スタウトですが、USAに輸出していたスタウトはどうも日本のと比べると小さいようです。 Baby Staut(？)とか呼んでいるようですが、フロント足回りがウィッシュ ボーンなので日本のフロント リーフ スプリングと比べると車高下げもはるかに楽な気がします。 ホイルも5穴ですから色んなホイルが履けそうです。日本に持って来てカスタムするには好材料だと思います。
	でも良く見ると三角窓（スタウトは四角ですが）がUSAのはないのです。三角窓があった方がバランスはいいですね。 小さく見えるこのスタウトですが、フロント ガラスのサイズは日本のに合ったようですから幅は変わらないのでしょうか？日本でもこのサイズのスタウトがあったのかどうか知りませんが、大きさも丁度良い感じです。 このレッドのは交差点の空き地でFor Saleのサインを付けて長い間駐車していました。USAではこの様に売りたいクルマにサインを付け、空き地に勝手に置いておくのが昔は多かったです。買おうか迷ったのですが買いませんでした。隣のトラックもFor Saleでした。

もう一台のスタウトはV-8が入って、リアはナロード デフになり、ファットなタイヤが入ったUSA車並にカスタムされています。 昔の日本車はUSA車に比べて非力ですからV-8を積みたくなりますよね。日本車旧車はスタイル的に楽しいですが唯一非力な所が現代にマッチしてませんからアメリカ製V-8を積みましょう。 カリフォルニアで見たスタウト2台でした。

"TOYOTA Staut" Staut has been chosen as good base for custom car in Japan as its big size and USA like appeals but Staut that was exported to USA seems smaller than the ones in Japan. Export models are called Baby Staut and have wish bone in front end which is easier to lower the Car compare to leaf springs on Japanese models. Wheels are easier to choose as export models have 5 lugs. Think its good base for bringing back to Japan to Customize. But it has no vent windows which looks better with to balance off. Export models looks smaller but Japanese size windows shield fit on US models so width of Cars are the same. May be this size existed in Japan, it looks good size for Japan. This red ones had For Sale sign and was parked long time at some free land in corner at a cross road. Back in days, this kind of for sale on free land scene was often seen in USA. I decided not to buy it after lot of thinking. The truck on the next side was also for sale. Gray one was custom like USA cars with V8 and narrow rear end with fat tires. The Old Japanese Cars are not so powerful compare to USA cars so makes sense to put V8 on. They are cool in style but weak power doesn't match with current dates, lets update with V8 on. 2 Staut seen in California long time ago.

オールド日本車 in OZ

今回もオーストラリアの日本車をお送りします。今頃、南半球のオーストラリアは春でしょうか、暖かくなる頃でしょう。 ではまずGold Coast、Surfer's ParadiseのあるBrisbane近郊でSnapした2台、カローラ ＆ セリカです。
	パームツリーをバックに真っ青なブルースカイ。ライセンスプレートと右ハンドルを除けばまるでCaliforniaのようですね。日差しが強いのでサンバイザーは必需品です。 セリカが履いているのはDragwayというMade in Australiaのホイルです。このタイプのホイルとセリカは本当にGoodコンビネーションですね。他社から流用のサイドミラーもなかなかです。セリカはかっこいいですね。

次はBrisbaneから下におりて、SydneyでのSnapです。こんなバランスの良いコロナ見たことありません。表現のしようがありません。車高、タイヤの大きさ、インテリア、ペイントどれを取っても素晴らしい！日本では国産旧車をこのコロナやセリカのような仕上げ方する人がいなくなってしまいました。綺麗に仕上げれば十分エキゾティックになるのに、何か変な感じになってますね、日本の国産旧車事情は。コロナもカッコ良くなるし、昔々はこういう感じの仕上げ方が結構いたのですけどね。

最後はMelbourne(メルボルン）市内のクルーズで見かけたマツダ RX-4（日本名：ルーチェ）、ボンネット（OZはこう呼びます）にスクープが付きあやしい感じ、やはりDragway製ホイルを履き、ややロワード気味でやけにスタイルの良いRX-4です。これも日本では見られなくなったクルマですね。

もう一台は極上コンディションの日産 セドリック ステーションワゴン、これは本当にオリジナルで程度が良かったのを覚えています。 MelbourneはHot Rod Shopが沢山あるのでも有名です。もしそのタイプのクルマを見るならMelbourneが良いと思います。 Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne、何処に行きますか？

"Old Japanese Car in OZ" This issue is about JAPANESE CAR in Australia again. It must be getting warm in Australia as spring in southern hemisphere. First snap is Toyota Corolla and Toyota Celica, taken in Gold Coast, at the suburb of Brisbane where Surfer's Paradise is. It's like in California with palm tree and blue sky except the license plate and right handle. The Sun visor is must item in strong sunshine. Wheels on Celica is called "Dragway" which is made in Australia. This type of wheels go on very well with Celica. They are really good combination. Side mirrors are from other non factory and really looks good too. Celica is a really cool car. Next Snap is from Sydney down from Brisbane. This Toyota Corona is such a rare car with very good balance. Its hard to explain. The height, size of tires, interior and paint all is excellent. The Japanese Domestic classics built to this level and style has decreased in Japan. Its getting strange though it can be very exotic cars when finished in beautiful condition. Toyota Corona can be Cool too, they used to be more cars like these in Japan long time ago. Last snap is taken at cruise in Melbourne city, a very nice style Mazda RX-4 with Scoop on Hood(its called bonnet in OZ) again Dragways wheel, slightly lowered height. This too is rare to see in Japan now days. Another car is excellent condition Nissan Cedric Station Wagon which I remember was original car in superb condition. Melbourne is famous with many Hot Rod Shops in area. If you want to see those types of cars Melbourne is recommended. Out of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne where would you like to go?

横田ベースで見かけた旧車

先週、米軍横田エアフォースベースでAuto Showがあり、何かあるかなと出かけたら何とスカイラインGTXを見つけました。 ベースの中の建物は古い物が多いのでこの写真だけでは何時撮った写真か分りませんね。今の写真でも昔に見える不思議な場所です。 このスカイライン、14インチ スチール ホイルにホイル リング、純正のセンター キャップ、と当時のスタイルです。このスカイラインは、ほぼオリジナルコンディションで、しかもかなり綺麗です。ハードトップ スカイラインはカッコいいですね。 最近、細いホイルリングを探してもありませんね。特に10、12、13インチは見つけるのが難しくなってますが、昔の国産車を昔風に仕上げるには絶対に必要なアイテムです。

スカイラインを散々眺めた後　次に見かけたのは1964年型 ビスケイン 4ドアです。しかもEナンバーですからわざわざUSAから持ってきたクルマです。 最近はUSAからクルマを持って来る人も減っているようですし、ベースの中を見ても日本車が多く、このAuto Showも今風のクルマが多くて結局撮った写真はこの2台だけでした。

"Classic cars in Yokota Base" Last weekend I went to Car Show at Yokota US Air Force Base in Japan with hope to find some nice cars to look at and there was NISSAN SKYLINE GTX with Y-License Plate. "Y" means purchased in Japan. Its difficult to tell when this picture was taken as the buildings in base hasn't really changed for while. Yokota Base is mysterious place which the picture taken there looks like it has been taken years ago. This SKYLINE has kept its original style with 14inch steel wheel and Wheel ring, original center cap. The car is almost all original and in very good condition. Think this hard top SKYLINE is cool. Now days its hard to get these narrow Trim Rings, especially in 12, 13 and 14 inches but its a must item for making old Japanese domestic cars look old domestics. After taking a good look at SKYLINE, The next car was a 1964 BISCAYNE 4doors. And since it has E-License plate, it represent the fact that car is brought from USA. Its rare to see as people don't bring their car from USA as its cheaper to buy in Japan. Even inside the base, Japanese cars increased compared to class and this Auto Show had mostly new style cars late model engines. This SUBARU BRAT is owned by MOONEYES staff, Aizawa.

ODC(Old Domestic Cars) その7　"Crown Pick Up"

またトヨタクラウンの話で恐縮ですが、今回は左ハンドル(LHD)のクラウン ピックアップです。
	LHDバン・ワゴンはUSA等にも輸出されていたので日本にも逆輸入された車を見る機会もあるので今ではそれ程感動的でありませんが、LHD ピックアップ、それも56系となると話は違います。 USAへのピックアップの輸出は１960年のトヨペット クラウンが最後、その後はセダンとワゴンのみ、Pick Up大国のUSAへ当時の日本製Pick Upを輸出するのは大変だったでしょう。
今迄この年式のLHD Pick Upの存在すら分かりませんでしたが、広い世界にあったのです。初めて見た時は驚きました。日本の車メーカーが昔から世界中に車を輸出していたのを今更ながら認識させられます。 今はTVで映し出される外国の画像に必ず日本車が出てきますが当時から輸出しまくっていたのですね。

今このLHD ピックアップは板金が終わり、内装に取りかかる所まで来ました。早ければ11月のCrown Picnicに参加できる予定です。 今迄その存在すら知らなかった車を見るのは感動ですね。

Excuse me but this issue is about Toyota Crown again. This time its Left Hand Drive (LHD) Crown Pick Up. LHD Vans and Wagons were exported to USA, etc and seeing them is not so precious as some return to Japan, but LHD Pick Up especially for the 56 series it's a different story. The last Pick Up export to USA was 1960 Toyopet Crown and after that export was limited to sedans and wagon only for USA market. It must have been difficult to export Pick Up to The Pick Up country back then. Until I have seen this car, never really knew if LHD Pick Up existed but in this broad world it existed. I was surprised to see it first time. I feel that I recognize more about the Japanese car manufactures were exporting Japanese car to all over the countries. Now days any abroad TV scene has Japanese cars in it so they must have been exporting a lot from back than. Now this LHD Pick Up has finished exterior paint work and started on interior work. May be able to join the Crown Picnic in November if everything goes well. It is impressive to see the car that didn't know it existed.

ODC(Old Domestic Cars) その5 “MOONEYES Style”

	横浜元町商店街のパーキング メータを独占し、ズラっと並んだクラウン。 前の2台は1970年型 RS56、3台目は1966年型 MS46 そして4台目が1970年型 MS52、ノーマル状態のステーションワゴンです。まだこの頃はトヨタ協販から新品部品も沢山出たので先頭のピックアップはバンパー、グリルなど殆ど新品部品で仕上げる事ができました。
前回のブログではクラウンピックアップの散策を書きましたが、当時は商業車のクラウンピックアップを取り上げる雑誌も少なく、情報は耳と運しか無い時代。雑誌でもまったく見ることの出来ない商業車を特集していたのがカーマガジンで、何時の何号かは忘れましたが緑の46系ピックアップの特集を覚えています。雑誌等に掲載され「こんな車があるんだ」と人の目にでも触れなければ人の記憶に残りませんから、クラウンピックアップは当時、見つけようと思っても簡単には見つけられない車だったのです。 でもこの写真の頃になると情報は豊富になり、クラウンピックアップも珍しいと言っても決して見つからない車では無くなり出した1989年、1962年～1970年のクラウンピックアップ、バン ＆ ステーションワゴンを対象にした第1回目のクラウン ピクニックを開催しました。 ナゼ対象がこの年代に限られたかと言うと、自分の好きな年式だったと言う何とも自分勝手なイベントですが、昨年は観音クラウンからクジラクラウン、それにセダンを追加し15回目を開催しました。 私達が開催するイベントの為、ノーマル車は少なくカスタムされた車が殆ど。最近はヤレたと言うと聞こえは悪くありませんが、疲れたままの車も多くなり、「車は綺麗でこそ車」と言う事は通じなくなってきたようです。 MOONEYES Style＝California の香りがする綺麗な車です。 そんな California の香りのする国産車が集まる Event、第8回 All Odds Nationals「変な国産車集まれ！」は 9月25日(日）に川崎市東扇島で開催、Crown だけのピクニック、第16回 Crown Picnic は11月13日(日) 横浜プリンスホテルで開催予定です。 貴方の記憶の底に残っている Old Domestic Cars をカスタムしませんか？！
Along the street side parking meter of Yokohama Motomachi shopping arcade in 1988, 1st and 2nd Crown are 1970 RS56, 3rd Crown is 1966 MS46 and 4th Crown is 1970 MS52 Original Station Wagon. About 17 years ago, the brand new parts were still available from TOYOTA Parts Dept., so the 1st Crown were able to build with brand new bumpers, Grills and other for front end. On previous issue I wrote on "Search of Crown Pick Up", which was true story on about 23 years ago. It was rare to see issues about commercial vehicle like Crown Pick Up on magazine. Only magazine issues I remember is an issue on commercial vehicle by "Car Magazine". I recall seeing Green Crown 46 Pick Up on that issue. Since there was no exposure of Crown Pick Ups on magazines, most people didn't know the existence of the Crown Pick Ups. As information was limited to hearing rumors and found by luck. Finding a Crown Pick Up wasn't easy at that time. By the time this picture was taken, there were more information and Crown Pick Ups was still rare but not impossible to find. 1989 was the first year of MOONEYES hosting "Crown Picnic" for Crowns Pick Up, van and station wagons from 1962 to 1970. It was limited to 1962-1970 because these were the years that I like. Still selfish event but last year hosted 15th Crown Picnic with years from 1959 to 1973. Because we host event, entry cars are mostly custom and not originals. Common sense of "Car must be clean to be a car" is no longer accepted as warned out, beat up or tired vehicles have increased. "All Odds Nationals", event for Domestics with taste of California will be hosted "Odd Domestic Cars get together" at HIGASHI OUGIJIMA on Sunday September 25th. その4　幻のクラウンピックアップ

前回はトヨタクラウンのダブルピックを紹介しましたが、今回はシングルピックです。
	常にクランピックアップを探していた20数年前、なんとなく観ていたTVでは各地の大根特集をやっていました。特別興味も無くボーと画面を眺めていたその時、畑作業をする老夫婦の横にいきなり1970年型クラウンピックアップが見え隠れしたのです。そのバックには見覚えある私鉄電車が走っています。 TVですから詳しい住所等出るはずがありませんが、大根、私鉄電車、 大体の地名、それと画面に出た周囲の雰囲気、持っている情報はそれだけ。このチャンスを逃したら絶対に巡りあえないと思い、地図を頼りに散策を開始し数週間、画面で映った畑を発見、そして遂にTVでちらっと映ったクラウンピックアップを探す事に大成功したのです。
その時「俺は天才だ」と自画自賛、なぜ天才と思ったんだ？！ 早速老夫婦にお願いし車を見させて頂きました。仕事に使っているワンオーナーカーです。程度はほどほどですが大切にされているのはひしひしと感じました。もうほしくてほしくて仕方なかったのですが、いきなり「売ってください」は失礼なので何度か足を運んだある日、遂に意を決して「譲って頂けませんか」と切り出しました。答えはあっさり「NO」。理由はまったく同じ車を持ってくるなら売ってもいいと、つまり他のトラックでは代用にならないとの事でした。 その時の僕の車は1980年型のハイラックス（4WDではありません）だったのでこっちの方が新しいし、クーラーも付いていて乗り易いですよと強調しても答えは「NO」、散々探し回ってやっと会えたクラウンピックアップでしたが縁がなかった事と諦めました。 車の購入は縁が取り持つ何かと思っていますので　無理な買い方は しないように心がけています。全て「縁」ですね。残念ながら縁がなかったのです。 確かにピックアップでクラウンピックアップに勝る車は国産ではありません。クラウンの装備、足周り等、クラウンセダンと大差ないのですから他のトラック、トラックしたトラックでは比較にならないのは十分理解できるにも関わらずトラックトラックのハイラックスと交換しようなんて虫のいい話が通るわけないよな、と独り言を唱え諦めてトボトボ家路についたのでした。 残念ながら写真も撮っていないのです。常にカメラを持ち歩るいていたはずですがこの車は撮っていないので、まさに幻のクラウンピックアップ、もしかしたらTVから始まって探し当てるまでもクラウンピックアップ欲しさの夢だったのかもしれません。 *注：ODC-Old Domestic Cars　CROWN-CLASSICS.COM
An illusion of TOYOTA Crown Pick Up Previous issue was about Double Pick Up, this issue is about Single Pick Up. When I was searching for Crown Pick Up twenty years ago, I saw a program on TV about Various Radish farmers in different areas of Japan. Program was not even interesting but boring I was just watching it for no reason. Just then I saw that TOYOTA Crown Pick Up in back ground. TV program didn't show address. There was a railroad running at background and it was some where in Tokyo. As I thought I will never have 2nd chance to find Pick Up, my search to find the farmer with TOYOTA Crown Pick Up begun and with map and few weeks I found that farmer. I thought I was a genius! Though now I don't know why I thought I was genius. I asked farmer politely to show me that TOYOTA Crown Pick Up and he accepted. Pick Up was one owner working car. It was in a fair condition but I could tell that owner was taking a really good care of the car. I wanted car so bad but tried to be nice and avoid asking to sell on the first sight. After visiting few times I finally asked if I could buy the Pick up. The answer was "NO". Reason was that No other truck can substitute and only if I could bring the same car to trade. I offered my 1980 TOYOTA Hilux 2wd Mini Truck, told him that it was like new with AC and easy to drive But still answer was "NO". Even though I walked miles to find, I came up with conclusion that I had no "Fate" and gave up. I believe buying a car is lead by fate and try not to buy by force. All by fate. Its too bad but had no fate. There is no Pick Up better than TOYOTA Crown Pick Up in Domestic Japanese cars. Even though it's a Pick Up, it comes with features, suspensions that are not much different than of Top grade sedan of TOYOTA "Crown Sedan". Even though I knew that TOYOTA Crown Pick Up is not really a truck truck. I asked to make deal to swap with my Hilux. which was really a truck like a truck. I said to myself that was not really a good deal for him to say yes and headed home. To my regret, I didn't take any picture. I had camera with me all the time but some how I didn't take picture of this one. A true illusion of TOYOTA Crown Pick Up. 1960 Toyota Crown

速く走るODC(*注)の2回目はやはり1960 Toyota Crown Sedan。
	この車は北Californiaで見つかった貴重な輸出観音クラウンです。 ですからTOYOPETでなくてTOYOTAです。 購入後南CaliforniaのMOONEYES USAへ回送されて来ました。 日本にそのまま送るか、それともしばらくCaliforniaに置いておくか、 いずれにしてもちょっと邪魔だったのでガレージにしまいに行く途中、 あるStreet Rod Shopに立ち寄った事がきっかけでこの様な姿に生まれ変わりました。
シャシーとボディーは別々にされフロントにはMustang IIの足回り、 リアはFord 9"デフをそれぞれ移植し、エンジンはChevy ZZ3 350(5.7L)モーターにMOONEYES オリジナル Cross Ramマニフォールド、本来はWeberサイドドラフトと行く所ですがこの車はEFIを装着しました。トランスミッションはTH350AT、国産の皮を被ったUSA車です。 軽いボデイーとChevy V-8の有り余るパワーから加速感は怖さを感じるくらい暴力的です。 ODCのこんな楽しい乗り方あるの知ってました？ 古い車のままでは今の道路事情について行くのは危険が一杯ですから 新しいエンジンや足回りに変更すれば周りに迷惑も掛けず乗り回せますし、いざと言う時はアクセルをポンと踏めば急加速で追い越しも可能です。 セルシオのドライブトレインを丸テールクラウンに移植したらきっとイージードライブが可能でしょうね。 こんなの楽しいとは思えませんか？　*注：ODC-Old Domestic Cars　CROWN-CLASSICS.COM
2nd fast Old Domestic Cars(ODC) is 1960 TOYOTA Crown Sedan. This rare 4dr Export Crown was found in Northern California. So its not called "Toyopet" but "Toyota". After purchase, car was transported to MOONEYES USA in South California. Either sending car to Japan or keeping it in California, car had to be moved out to warehouse. And dropping by Street Rod Shop was the beginning of this project. Car went through body off restoration with Mustang II in front and Ford 9" at rear. Motor was Chevy ZZ3 350(5.7L) motor with MOONEYES Cross Ram Manifold and EFI instead of side draft Weber. TH350AT for trans, an American Car with Japanese Domestic on outside. Light body and Chevy V8 Power makes aggressive acceleration which is pretty scarily. Did you know fun way to enjoy ODC like this? Its too dangerous to drive a bone stock old car on today's street. With new motor and suspension, you can drive stress free and accelerate to pass. Possible to get easy drive, if you take Lexus drive train into 1964 Toyota Crown. Do you think its Fun!? 1960 Toyota Crown Pick Up

	なんだこれは！ 1960年型 観音開きクラウンの しかもピックアップ。それだけでも十分驚くのに左ハンドルで V-8 が入ってしかもデフはナロー化され、何やらリアサスペンションは4リンクの様で太い Drag スリックタイヤが収まっている本格的ドラッグレース用レースカーです。もうビックリですね。 またカラーリングがいいではありませんか、フード上のスクープも時代を感じさせます。輸出用のクラウン ピックアップはピラーの幅が国内モデルよりか若干広くなっているのが見えます？え、国内モデルも見たことないから違いが分からないって？！
めったにお目にかかれない観音クラウンのピックアップ、カッコいいですね。この姿から想像するとかなり早そうな車です。ノーマルなら4気筒1800cc ＆ 4輪ドラムブレーキ。とてもじゃありませんが今の街を走るのは大変です。 でも ODC (Old Domestic Cars) に Update な強力エンジン積み、足回りも強力に変更すれば、今の車もビックリ。皮は旧車、中身は今風、これはこれは楽しいではありませんか。 製作費用はメルセデスが買える位になるのは間違ないから、やはりメルセデスにしますか? それともやってみます？ いつでもご相談下さい。 CROWN-CLASSICS.COM
What is this! 1960 TOYOTA Pick Up! Very rare by itself but, Drag Race Racecar with left handle, V8, narrowed def, 4 Link rear suspension with wide Drag Slick Tire. Very surprised. The color is nice too, with hood scoop to match the days. Export Crown Pick Up has wider pillar than the domestic model. You can't tell as you don't know the original ones. Its cool and very hard to see them. Imagine the car is fast by the look of it. Original has cylinder 1800cc & 4 wheel drum brakes. Can't drive on today's street. But if you update ODC(Old Domestic Cars) with powerful motor and fight suspension, it will surprise today's car. New drive train with old look. But you can buy Mercedes to build one. ODC（Old Domestic Cars）は楽しい

クラウンのダブルピックって知ってますか？ 最近ではダブルピックもそうですがピックアップ自体を街で見かける事が無くなってしまいましたね。背の高い Mini Van やワンボックスの方がはるかに使い易く便利ですが、ピックアップの手軽さは捨てられません。買い物に行っても荷物を荷台にポンと置けるし、何を積むにも手間が掛かりません（雨の日を除けばですが）。

	そもそもクラウンのピックアップ自体珍しいのですが、それもダブルピックとなると尚珍しい。シングル ピックアップはそれなりに残っていますがダブルピックは商業車の匂いがプンプン。今ひとつ人気もなくイベントなどでもあまり見かけなくなってしまいました。今こうして改めて見るとダブルピックもカッコいいですね。呼び方もUSAのようにクルーキャブなんて呼ばれ方をしていたらもう少し残っていたかもしれません。
	商業車ですから4ドアの方が使い勝手はいいと思いますが、4ドアにしたら4ドアセダンのトランクを外したのと見た目が同じになってしまうので2ドアにしたのでしょうか？6人乗りの働く車がなぜ2ドアなのか疑問です。 Old Domestic Cars（ODC）は楽しいですね！ CROWN-CLASSICS.COM

天気の良い日はOld Domestic Cars

陽気も良くなり国産旧車には良いシーズンになって来ました。 そんな天気の良さに誘われ最近は1970年型クラウンMS50スーパーデラックスに毎日乗っています。街を走っていて気が付いたのですが35年も前の古いクラウンセダンが以外にも人気があるのです。 ドライバーも歩行者も沢山の人が「何て言う車だろう」って 感じで眺めているのです。 クルマっぽい四角いクルマが今では珍しいのでしょうか？そう思って改めてクラウンを見ると良いデザインしてますね。 古い車に乗っていると必ず聞かれるのが「不便ありませんか？」「通勤で使えますか？」「エアコン効きますか」　こんな方は 最初から乗ろうなんて思わないで下さいね。不便を承知で古い車に乗りましょう！ Shige 菅沼
