これは Driveway Safety Marker って言いまして、 リフレクターが付いた棒を視界の悪い所に差しておく為にあります。
どうです Blue Sky に合うでしょう。

Driveway Safety Marker [HKDM100]

This is called a Driveway Safety Marker. It's a long rod that has a reflector attached to the tip for visibility.
Doesn't the blue sky match with the reflector.
The colors available are amber, red and blue. Made in USA

ベイスターズの前身 大洋ホエールズ当時から大ファンの Wildman 石井の魂が込められた
デザインです。勿論それぞれのデザインには「優勝」と言う気持ちが込められています。

Designed by Wildman Ishii, this is a Yokohama Baystars (professional baseball team) & MQQNEYES collaboration that goes on sale starting July 12 exclusively at Yokohama Stadium, home of the Baystars. Wildman has been a big fan of the team, going back to when they were called Taiyo Whales. Naturally, the designs have that winning spirit in them all.

Rock & Roll Independence Day at YC&AC on Sunday, July 8th

横浜にある YC&AC で開催された１回目の"Rock & Roll Independence Day" 朝のうちは雨模様でしたが
次第に天気も回復に向い午前中には青空となり熱い程の日差しの中 素晴らしい盛り上がりとなりました。

OCSA と MOPAR の方々の展示、 ライブは何と６バンド！ パイの早食い競争や、 Kids コーナー、
そして YC&AC Catering による Great Food, MQQNEYES Staff はいったい何皿食べていたのでしょうか？
8月には　Bon Festival (盆踊り) もありますので遊びに来てみては？
日程は発表されましたらアップします。

It was the 1st Annual "Rock & Roll Independence Day" event held at YC&AC located in Yokohama this past Sunday. In the early morning it was overcast with drizzling rain but gradually the skies cleared and the weather turned before midday. It turned out to be a wonderful hot day and everyone had a good time.

OCSA and MOPAR cars were on display until the afternoon and there were a total of 6 live bands! There was a pie eating contest, kids corner, and great food offered by YC&AC catering. I wonder how much the MOONEYES Staff eat that day?
In August is their annual Bon Festival (Matsuri) so be sure to join in if you have the chance. Once we have the details, we'll post it online.

Roast Pork!! ブタの丸焼きです。 朝9時から焼き始めて3時頃には焼き上がりました。
ゆっくり６時間かけて焼いた肉はソフト＆テンダー！ 最高です。
Roast Port!! They roasted this pig from 9AM until about 3PM.
Slowly for six hours the meat was soft and tender! Excellent.

This chili was so good too!


ビールやワインそしてソフトドリンク。
There was beer, wine and soft drinks.


Wildman は Kids に Pinstripe を講習中です。
Wildman was training the kids at pinstriping.


Pie Eating Contest, パイの早食い競争に挑戦の Pan君　
この上にホイップクリームを掛けます。

The pie is covered in whipped cream before the contest begins.


最初の2分間は手を使ってはいけません。
For the first two minutes you couldn't use your hands.


早食い競争では負けた事が無いと言うPan君、早いです。
Pan never lost any kind of eating contest before. He's fast.


やった！！ と思いましたが わずかの差で負けてしまいました。
残念！！
Yes!! He thought he won but actually, someone finished before him.
Bad luck...


MOPAR の方々も参加してくれました。

素晴らしい車に見に来た方々もビックリでした。

So many superb cars on display, viewers were amazed.


このグランドで一日ゆっくりビールを呑んだり、子供と遊んだり、来年は参加しましょう！
To spend a day on these grounds, taking it slow, drinking a beer, kids playing, listening to live music, I look forward to next year's event!

HCS2011 Show is Over

騒音/暴走行為の問題も無く、 皆様の協力のお陰で 20回目の Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 無事終了しました。
色々不手際もありましたがお許し下さい。 ご協力ありがとうございました！！
さすが寄る歳には勝てず体のあっちこっちが痛いです。
詳しいショーの内容は近々 Website にアップされますのでお楽しみに！！

It was with everyone's cooperation and support that the 20th Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show was a great success! There were no issues or complaints about noise or street chaos from the neighbors too.
There were some awkward moments on our part, sorry. But thank you to all for your cooperation!!
As one would expect, as the body gets older each year, the pain in various places increases.
Show details and galleries will be posted to our website soon. Don't miss it!!

Santa Maria 2011

Santa Maria へ行って来ました。少し風が強かったですが Kustoms & Hot Rods が沢山参加していました。
写真をお楽しみ下さい。
I went to Santa Maria (West Coast Customs, Cruisin' Nationals). The were some strong winds but the weather was nice and there were tons of Kustoms & Hot Rods everywhere.

大変珍しい車を発見、1953 Nash-Healey です。早速画像をマニアのWildmanに送るとこんな返事が帰ってきました。
I saw this very unusual car, a 1953 Nash-Healey. I immediately sent these photos to auto enthusiast Wildman and this is what he responded with. 

"Nash Healey 凄いクルマですね・・・・・
Nash-Healy, what a wonderful car...
This car was created in the 50s when Austin-Healey was successful with Donald Healey in the U.K. and they decided to do a collaboration with Nash in the U.S.A. to make a high-class sports car.
This car looks to be the second model which was a Pinin Farina body, Nash supplied straight-six engine, I believe.
Since its inception in the 50s to now, I am quite positive that there has never been one here in Japan, it's that rare and there are many that don't know of this car.
This cars appearance from behind is extremely rare as it was rarely shown in magazines at the time so it was valuable data to see. Indeed it's a rare car, possibly as rare as a Dual Ghia L6.4 and the fact that you [Shige] got to see one in person, I'm quite jealous.

Wildman Goes to オアフ島/WILDMAN Goes to Oahu, HI

先週末、 オアフ島にある Ron's Performance Center で開催された Cruise Night に Wildman が参加しました。
今回は MOONEYES, Hawaii Dealer の Pacific Rod & Custom のお手伝いですので Mainland からも Chico と Bob も手伝いに来ました。
Wildman は車 2台、 バイク1台、 ミニカー 2台、 ヘルメット 1個、 携帯カバー 1つ、 それに魔法瓶 3個を仕上げ大忙し、 本来 9:30pm 終了でしたが Wildman の仕事が多く、 終了は 11:00pm を廻っていました。
Last weekend, Wildman visited the island of Oahu and took part in the Cruise Night held by Ron's Performance Center. MOONEYES Hawaii Dealer, Pacific Rod & Custom helped out with the event, so Chico and Bob from the mainland flew over to help out as well.
Wildman had a full plate with 2 cars, 1 bike, 2 diecast cars, 1 helmet, a mobile phone and 3 thermos bottles. It was a busy day and even though the the event originally ended at 9:30PM, it was closer to 11PM when Wildman was complete.

上は今回のイベント Tシャツ、 1枚につき$5を今回の震災への義援金してくれました。 下は 1977年に買った Ron's の Tシャツ
Ron's は 1977年南 California の帰り道 Hawaii に立ち寄り、 このTシャツを買ってきました。
今回、 日本から持って行き展示した所 Old Timer の方々には大変喜ばれました。
そしてこの Funny Car もカラーリングが変わり、 今は Kauai 島で走っているそうです。
The image above/left shows the event T-shirt on display. $5 from each T-shirt sold will be donated to relief efforts in Japan. The faded yellow T-shirt shown at the bottom was one I bought in 1977 at Ron's here in Hawaii. I was on a return trip from California with a layover in Honolulu and purchased the shirt.
I thought it would be interesting to have it on display so I brought it with me. A lot of the old timers noticed with delight. The actual Funny Car is said to be in a different color scheme but still running in Kauai.

MOONEYES Pick は親子で 2年以上掛け自宅ガレージで完成させた 1949 Merc。
MOONEYES Pick went to father & son garage built 1949 Merc that took over 2 years to complete.

今回泊まったホテルは The Breakers at Waikiki, 一度泊まってみたかったホテルです。
2階建ての古くさい (実際に古い) ホテルですがこれは Waikiki のど真ん中にあるのが驚きです。
キッチン等も付いていますので長期滞在に良いと思います。 ちなみ僕らは 2泊 4日でした。
何ともいい感じのホテルでしたよ。
On this trip to Hawaii, we picked The Breakers at Waikiki, as I had always wanted to stay at this hotel.
It's a 2-story hotel that has an old nostalgic smell (almost all old) but surprisingly it is smack in the heart of Waikiki. Room is complete with a kitchen so it would be very suitable for long period stays. Although I only stayed for two nights as our trip was only four days. However, I highly recommend this place, it was such an excellent hotel.

Wildman's Pinstriping （ワイルドマン's ピンストライピング）

先々週のWildmanのブログで紹介されたCrown 2台をお見せします。
Pick Upが「Magic of the Blue」、Stationwagonが「Black Magic」
Wildmanの初期の作品ですが、まだ描き出しの頃です。
良くここまで描いたと思います。。
秘話ですが、この2台結構書き直しをした事がありました。
一度描いた物を消すのは本人にとって大変なストレスですが、それが出来たWildman。
だから今の彼があるのですね。

この2台から日本でのPinstripeが始まったと言っても決して過言ではありません。
Mack Brushを手に入れピンストライプに僕もトライした時期がありましたが、「タバコ、酒をやめて、残るはひたすら練習するだけ」だと当時務めていた会社の人に言われ結構簡単に諦めました。
たばこは吸わないからOK、でも後の2つは。。。。
その時のMack BrushをWilｄmanが使い描いたのがこの2台でした。

I want to show the two Toyota Crowns that appeared on Wildman's blog the week before last.

1970 Toyota Crown Pick Up was called "Magic of the Blue" and 1966 Toyota Crown Station Wagon was "Black Magic".
Both were early works of MOONEYES Official Pinstriper Wildman Ishii when he first started to draw.
I think it was drawn really well...
The secret story behind these two cars is that there were many corrections.
Wildman was stressed out for having to erase his work, but that is why he is what he is now.

It is said that from these two cars, Pinstriping in Japan was born and that's no exaggeration.

With a Mack Brush in hand, there was a time when I even tried pinstriping but, I was told by one of Disney artist "Quit smoking, drinking and dedicate to practice" and at the time, I was quick to give up.
I didn't smoke so that was OK, but the other two parts well...
That being said, with the same Mack Brush, Wildman striped these two cars.

Honda CB750 K-3 Cafe Racer

CB750のCafe Racerです。
７０年代、Cafe Racerって流行りました。
このビルダーはイギリスの人ですが、日本ではヨシムラ集合にコンチネンタルハンドルとか多かったですね。今回Pomonaで開催されたショーに出展されていました。
This is a CB750 Cafe Racer.
Cafe Racers of the 70s era are currently popular.
The builder of this bike is from the United Kingdom but back in the 70s in Japan, we used to use a lot of Japanese parts like Yoshimura 4 into 1 hand bent muffler, Continental Style handlebars etc.
This bike was on display at the event held in Pomona, CA.

ベンダーブースは大混雑、正面はちょっとすいているデトロイトジャンク。
それを見てSteelのMr. Kuwasawa氏は大喜び、
右隅でサングラスをかけているのはKustom Kultureの伝道師NASH君・・・The vendor booths were The vendor booths were really crowded with a slight clearing in the front at Detroit Junk. Seeing that, Mr. Kuwasawa of Steel was overcome with joy. In the right corner wearing sunglasses is Kustom Kulture missionary NASH.

ショーまであと10日

昨日　コンテナからUSからの車とバイクを引き出しました。
The cars and motorcycles that were shipped from the US were pulled out of the containers yesterday.
この時期になるとショーが始まるって感じがしてきます。
At this time of year, I always get this feeling inside, like the show is about to begin.

バイクもベンダーブースも過去最高のエントリー数となり会場はパンパンな感じです。
motorcycles and vendor booth entries reached a record high that the show space is mind blowing.

そうです、パンパンと言えばMOONEYES Mail Magazine EditorのTankはパンパンになったほほを押さえ「なぜこんなに？！？！」って感じでボーゼンとしていました
Yes, speaking of mind blowing, MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editor TANK, that handled the floor plan, felt the same way. "How could this be?!?!" Seen here in a daze.

ホット ロッド・カスタム ショーまであと２週間

エントリー締め切りから２週間、やっとレイアウトも決まり、今日はHot Rod Custom Show(HCS)の受理書を郵送する日です。
Two weeks after the entry deadline and the layout is finally set. Today is also when we start sending out acceptance letters for the Hot Rod Custom Show (HCS).

17回目になるHCS,今回も過去最高のエントリーを頂戴しました。
This year is the 17th HCS, and another record setting number of entrants.

2007年MOONEYES USA Xmas Party

今年のMOONEYES USA Xmas Partyは奇跡でした。まさにミラクル！です。

日本で聞いた当日の天気予報は雨、しかもよりによってストームが来ているという。最悪な話、「南カリフォルニアだぜ、そんな事ある訳無い」なんて否定していましたが、実際木曜日から怪しい雲行きとなり始め、金曜日は降ったりやんだりの何とも嫌なムード。しかも強烈に寒い！ショー会場での準備もまともに出来ない状態でした。


金曜、ショー準備をするTANK

夜は夜で雨が本格的に降りだし、「明日は絶対に雨だ～」って感じ。イベントの前日に雨が降り、明日を思う脱力感。日本ではしょっちゅうですが、ここ南カリフォルニア、晴れて当たり前の土地でその気分を味わうのは何とも憂鬱です。

朝3時に起きて外を見ると道路はWet、「Oh, man!」。会場へ向かう車の中は何となく重たい空気が流れていましたが、Racewayに近づくに従い空は明るくなり、星も見えてきました。「ひょっとすると今日は化けるかも」という期待が膨らみ始め、実際、そうなりました！何と快晴です！ミラクル！風は冷たかったけど、最高の天気になったのです。

Live Music、Pinstripe、Pinup Girls Contest、Choppers & Bobbers、Hot Rods、Customs and Drag Raceが一度に楽しめるイベント、MOONEYES USA Xmas PartyはSouthern CaliforniaのカルチャーがすべてIrwindale Racewayに集まり、まさに南Californiaです。これにSurfin'が加わればまさに1960sのSouthern Californiaがそこにあります。

Blue Sky、Palm Tree、Hot Rods and MOONEYES、南カリフォルニアです。天気が影響して出だしは遅かったですが、素晴らしい一日になりました。横浜のショーで会った人達に会えたのも大変嬉しかったです。詳しくは来週、MOONEYES Mail Magazine 特集ページでお送りします。Thanks Dean MOON！来年もIrwindaleで会いましょう！

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party 2007
This year's MOONEYES USA Xmas Party was like a miracle. In fact it was a real miracle.

The weather forecast said rain on show day, plus the storm was coming too. It was the worst story, "It's Southern California, That can't be true." So we denied but the weather was really going down fall from Thursday and Friday was worst with on and off rain, plus on top of that it was really cold. Couldn't even do good set up at show space.

On the previous night it rained on hard, "looks like its going to rain tomorrow", rain on previous day of event looses all our up tension for next day. That happens in Japan often but not in Southern California where weather is expected to be fine and sunny, it makes me depressed.

At 3am in the morning, I looked out side, the road was wet, "Oh, Man!" It was heavy atmosphere on the way to the show, but as getting closer to the raceway the sky was getting clear and even stars appeared. "May be weather will turn around today." So our expectation grew, and really it turned out to be like that. It was clear sky, like a miracle, The wind was cold but the weather was great.

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party is really event of Southern California, with all Southern California Culture, at Southern California Irwindale Raceway. If " Surfin" is added it will be Southern California of 1960's. Blue Sky, Palm Tree, Hot Rods and MOONEYES, its all Southern California.

The weather had effect on slow start but it turned out to be a great day. It's nice to see all people we saw at YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show. Will have more on next week's MOONEYES Mail Magazine special page. Thanks Dean MOON!

Chevy Nova

こんな感じで完成した1972年Nova、502/502 Crate Motor、MOON Racing Cam（Roller Camですよ）にRoller Rocker、OffeyのTunnel Ramインテーク、725cfmキャブが2個。この時代に2個です。なんて非常識なんでしょうか！



おおよそ600HPはTH400 ATトランスミッションに3,000rpm Stall Converter、アルミ製Drive Shaft、そしてCurrie製Ford 9" with 4.10 to 1 and Positractionで何時でもバーンナウトが可能です。あとロールケージとシフター、その他少々をやれば4月の仙台で走れるかもしれません。Wildmanに色々と描いてもらい、雰囲気最高のHot Rodが完成です。

The 1972 Nova, 502/502 Crate Motor, MOON Racing Cam, Offey Tunnel Ram Intake, Double Quad 725cfm caｒbs, double caｒbs in this high gas time. How unreasonable. Estimated 600HP runs through TH400 AT Transmission with 3,000rpm stall converter, Aluminum drive shaft and Currie Ford 9" with 4.10 to 1 and Positration which makes Burnout possible at any time. Now if Rollcage, shifter, and if other little things are done, may be able to run Drag Race soon. Wildman Ishii draw many things and one great looking Hot Rod is completed.

10月4日(木)のMOONEYES USA

10月4日(木)、MOONEYES USAに着いてみるとFred LarsenのWife、Marylouが居るではありませんか。何をしてるのかと思ったら彼女の車にWildmanがサインを入れていたのです。と言うよりWildmanが来る情報を得て、彼女が尋ねて来たと言うほうが正解かもしれません。Good to see you, Marylou、です。



Machine ShopではChevy Novaのリアエンドを交換作業中でした。こうした作業風景って何とも70年代の南カリフォルニアを感じますね。



来週末、Bakersfieldで開催される"NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion"に展示するため急ピッチで仕上げられたのです。MOON Fuel Tankはフルポリッシュだし、クロームを新たに掛けなおしたり、勿論シャーシーは新品ですし、今まで以上に綺麗なDragsterとなりました。



まだカウルにEyeballなどのサインが描かれていないのでWildmanが最後に仕上げをして完成です。



MOONEYES Dragsterの写真を撮っていると、Novaのリアタイヤハウスに誰かがいます。なんとYoshi君が作業を手伝ってくれていました。



終わり際にDean MOON Jr.も出社してきて全員集合のMOONEYESでした。



On Thursday, October 4th when I got to MOONEYES USA, Fred Larsen's wife Marylou was there, I was wondering why she was there and Wildman was drawing signs on her car. To be accurate Marylou knew Wildman was coming so she came here. Good to see you Marylou!

At Machine shop 1972 Chevy Nova had rear end changed to Ford 9" with 4.10 and Posi. Even these work scene looks 70s' Southern California.

And at Garage after 2.5 year from the crash on April 2005, MOONEYES Dragster was displayed to show it was completed. It was made in great rush to attend next weekend NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield, Ca. MOON Fuel Tank is fully polished and New chromes are applied and frame is new too, looks like we have it cleaned better than before. The Eyeball signs are not on Body Panel so when Wildman completes signs, it will be completed.

While taking picture of MOONEYES Dragster, there is some one at the rear quarter of Nova, it is Yoshi helping them out. Dean Moon Jr. came to work at last minute, MOONEYES USA had everyone in house.

Summer is over?

先週の日曜日は北海道のSCN、今年で17回にもなるのです。関東の暑さ＆湿気と比べると北海道の涼しさはなんとも心地良いのですが、現地の方々は口々に「今日は暑い」と言ってたのが印象的でした。北海道もフィンランドと同様、夏は車・バイクで走り回り、冬にゆっくりカスタムするのでしょう。どうも暑さ寒さにメリハリの無い地域では毎日が同じテンポなので、そういった変化が無い事が逆にカスタムした車やバイクに乗る感動が薄れてしまうのかもしれません。

さて、ショーは快晴の下、遊園地の立地を最大限に利用し、あちらこちらにショーカーが展示され、一周するのは大変ですが周回遊覧バスがあるのでそちらを利用し、意外と楽に見れました。と言っても乗りっぱなしだったのですが。

Long Distance、God Bless賞、Best of The Showを受賞したのは愛知県から参加の佐々木さんのリンカーン ゼファーで、Low Rider Car ClubのEsmeralda Car ClubはCar Club賞、MOONEYES賞は三上さんの2007年 トヨタ カローラ フィールダー Woodyとなりました。



Swap Meetでは「車のぬいぐるみ」を作るRocket Craftが出店。どうです、実写とぬいぐるみの比較は？こんな器用な事ができて凄いですね。なかなか忠実な仕上がりだと思います。来年は避暑を兼ねて北海道SCNに参加しましょう！

北海道から戻り、MOONEYES Area-1にいると、Canada人のご夫婦でMr. & Mrs. Weldonが「日本に行ったら絶対、MOONEYESに行かなくてはいけなかった」と東京から電車とタクシーを乗り継いでわざわざ尋ねて来てくれました。



聞けば彼はBonneville Racerとの事。彼の車は#261 Watson & Welden "Swap Meet Roadster"というRace Carだそうで、今年のBonnevilleでChicoと会ったと言っていました。最近外国からお客様が本当に多くなりました。嬉しいです。



すると翌日にはMOONEYES Fanが愛車のハイエースにWildmanのピンスライプを入れに御来店。丸一日　お子さんと遊んで行かれました。何と昼食・夜食共、MOON Cafeをご利用頂きました。ありがとうございました。夏休みも今週末で終わりですね。夏休み最後のイベントは「MOONEYES Area-1 Junk Fair」。明日2日(日)に開催します。僕は土日、長野で開催されるSuper Weekend 2007に参加してきます。

"Summer is over?"
Last Sunday was Street Car Nationals in Hokkaido(North end Japan), this year is 17th year. It was cool and nice, less humid in Hokkaido compared to east side near Yokohama but how many local people were saying "Its hot today" was impressive. Hokkaido is just like in Finland too, people ride a motorcycle and drive a car around in summer and work on custom in winter. May be in place with no temperature difference in season and same tempo everyday may loose its impressive feeling of riding a motorcycle and driving a car.

Now under the sunny blue sky the Show was hosted in the amusement park premises using all the spaces which spread out and long walk to look around but using the bus going around the park was easy to look around. But actually was on the bus all the time.

Long distance, God Bless(Hi Performance shop) award, Best of the Show was given to the Lincoln Zephyr owner Mr. SASAKI from Aichi prefecture central part Japan, Low Rider Car Club "Esmeralda Car Club" took Car Club award, MOONEYES Award went to TOYOTA Corolla Fielder Woody owner MR. MIKAMI and more award were given to.

Swap Meet had "stuffed doll of your car" made by "Rocket Craft" was out there, how about this one compare doll with picture, amazing hand craft, very true to details. Next year lets go and entry to Hokkaido SCN, getting away from the hot summer heat.

Back from Hokkaido at MOONEYES Area-1, Canadian couple Mr. & Mrs. Weldon were visiting us by taking train and taxi, saying "Must go to MOONEYES when we are in Japan". Found out he was a Bonneville racer and his car was #261 Watson& Weldon "Swap Meet Roadster" Race Car and met Chico at this years Bonneville. I promise them to see you again at 2008 Bonneville. Recently many visitors from abroad has increased. I am happy for that.

Then on the next day one of MOONEYES Fan has visited Area-1 whole day with his sons to have Wildman's Pinstripe on his TOYOTA HIACE. They had Lunch and Dinner at MOON Cafe. Thank you very much!

The summer Holiday will end on this weekend. The last event of summer holiday. There is blow out sale Called "Junk Fair" at MOONEYES Area-1 on Sunday September 2nd and MOONEYES will attend Super Weekend 2007 at Nagano on Saturday and Sunday, so I will be there.

FinlandのHot Rods & Kustoms

FinlandはScandinavia諸国のSwedenやNorwayと同様に、Hot Rod、Kustom＆Drag Race、とAmerican Car Cultureが盛んな国です。最近はDriftも大人気だそうです。そんなですからそれぞれの国にMOONEYES Dealerがあるのは勿論です。MOONEYES Dealer Finlandは新しい場所に移転し、その他2軒のShopと一つの工場をシェアしていました。



一つは"Primer Magazine"というFinlandのHot Rod＆Kustom Magazineです。今まではFinland語でしか発行していませんでしたが、最近英語版も発行し、にわかに注目を浴びている雑誌でもあります。

もう一軒はHot Rod＆Kustomを製作するShopで、そのオーナーは2004年 我々がSwedenのRat Fink Reunionに行った際、MOONEYES USA Awardを受賞した方でした。また、彼の奥様が車のインテリアを作る部屋もあり、MOONEYES FinlandでPartsを購入し、このShopで内外装を製作し、完成したらPrimer Magazineが取材してくれる、という何とも一石二鳥・三鳥の場所でした。日本にあってもいいかも知れませんね。

今回、GPS付きのVolvoをレンタカーしましたが、この日はFinlandのPinstriperの第一人者で、2004年のYOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Showに来日した事もあるPekkaが、友人のUnu Vinhavaの1949年 Cadで一日中ヘルシンキ市内のShopやCar ClubのClub House等に連れて行ってくれました。

次に向かったのはRoad Pilots Car ClubのClub House。非常時にはシェルターになる半地下のガレージには、数台のHot RodとともにDickiesを履いたメンバーが我々を待っていてくれました。しばらくDickiesを履いた人を見なかったので、この国に来て久しぶりに見るDickies。Finlandで購入するのは高いそうです。

Road Pilotsのガレージ入り口にあった34 FordはWW II 時代　救急車として使われていたという歴史ある車です。そう言えばウチにも赤坂警察が戦前使っていた34 Ford フェートンがありましたが、その後どうしているでしょうか。このガレージ奥にはClub RoomにメンバーがくつろげるBar等もあり、寒い長い冬の間にここに集まり、車を作るそうです。

Road Pilotsを後にし、オーナーのKARI SAARBLAがすべて自分で作ったというKustomed 1949年Buick RoadmasterとCadの2台で、PekkaもそしてCadのオーナー、BuickのオーナーもメンバーのTomahawk Car ClubのClub Houseへと向かったのです。

ボルボ、ベンツ、BMW等 新し目の車ばかり走る道で、2台のKustom USA車は信号待ちで歩行者に記念写真を撮られたり、並走する車からは「ZZ Topと同じ車？」とか質問されたり大変な人気でした。


TomahawkのClub Houseには、我々が行く事を事前に知ったHot Rodder達が月曜日だというのにわざわざ集まってくれて、我々を歓迎してくれました。今更のようにMOONをやらせてくれたDean MOONに感謝です。

Tomahawkのガレージは広大、しかも古い古い建物で、中には商売が出来るくらいの工作機械等が揃い、ペイントブースまであったのです。勿論、Barもあり、我々にとって適度に冷えたビールを頂きました。


彼らのClub Houseの隣にはHarleyのClub KONE MCのClub Houseがあり、こちらも商売ではないのに十分な機械があり、冬の間に色々Projectを進めるとの事でした。暖かい時期は皆Bikeに乗っているので、中がカラになってしまうそうです。勿論このClub Houseにもお決まりのBarがあります。

こんな環境で車やバイクが楽しめたらいいな～、って感じでヘルシンキの街を案内してもらいました。ほとんどの人が英語をしゃべるので比較的不自由なく過ごせ、Finlandは是非また尋ねたい国の一つです。今回、我々のHelsinki Tourに協力してくれたMr. & Mrs. Mikael、そしてPekka、Tomahawk Car Clubの方々に感謝すると共に、Road Pilots、各Shopの皆さん、Fin Toyのメンバーにもお礼を申し上げます。ありがとう！

Hot Rods & Kustoms in Finland
Finland is part of Scandinavian countries and like Sweden and Norway American car culture such as Hot Rod, Kustom & Drag Race are seen active in Finland too. Now days "D-1 Drifting" is getting popular too. Since the car culture is there, it is only natural to have MOONEYES Dealer in each country. MOONEYES Dealer in Finland has moved to new location, sharing factory with 2 shops.

One is Primer Magazine" publisher of Finland Hot Rod & Kustom Magazine. Up till now it was in Finnish only but now they have English version too and getting popular.

The Second shop is a Hot Rod & Kustom builder shop and the owner was the winner of our MOONEYES USA prize when we went to the Rat Fink Reunion at Sweden in 2004. There was a room for his wife where she makes interior (upholstery), so buy parts at MOONEYES Finland, Have interior and exterior done in this shop, then the Primer magazine can report your car when you are done. So this place is like one stop for two or three good things. Wouldn't it be nice to have place like this in Japan too.

This time we have rented Volvo with GPS but that day Pekka, Finland's first Pinstriper who came to Japan for the YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2004 and his friend Unu Vinhava on his 1949 Cadillac had taken us around the shop and club house of Car Clubs in Helsinki.

Next we headed to the "Road Pilots" Car Club's club house, in the half story below garage where it was made for emergency shelter were some Hot Rod and members with Dickies were waiting for us. I didn't see Dickies at all in Finland until I came to meet them, Dickies are expensive in Finland.

The 34 Ford in entrance of Garage has a historical back ground as it was used as an ambulance in WW II which reminds me of 34 Ford Phaeton we had before which was used in AKASAKA Police (in Tokyo) before WW II in Japan, wonder how is that car doing now. There was a lounge like bar at far inside their garage and members gather in in Winter at this garage to build their cars in long and ｃold Winter.

After "Road Pilots" we headed to the Tomahawk Car Club's club house called "Tomahawk Town" on Kustomed 1949 Buick Roadmaster built all by owner Kari Saarbla and Unu Vinhava's 1949 Cadillac where Pekka, Unu the Cadillac Owner and Kari the Buick owner are all in Tomahawk Car Club. On the road with new Volvo, Mercedes and BMW are all there is to be seen, two of Kustom USA cars were getting so much attention like taken picture by tourist and asked by the cars driving beside "Is this same car as the ZZ Top?".

At Club house on Tomahawk Car Club, some Hot Rodders has gathered to welcome us even though it was on weekday Monday. I thank Dean Moon now again for letting me inherit MOON. Tomahawk garage was very big and building was very very old, inside was plenty of machines to work on like pro shop and even had a paint booth. Of course the bar was there too and had a cold beer.

In next door to their club house was club house of Harley Davidson Club called "KONE MC". There were enough shop Machine like pro shop and they spend their winter season to do their projects. When its in warm season the club house gets empty as everyone is busy riding it. And this club house has bar too.

The tour in Helsinki was like how we imagine if we can enjoy cars and bikes. All most every one had no problem with speaking English and Finland is definitely another country we would like to visit again. I like to give my best regards and big thank you to everyone who helped us on touring Helsinki Mr. & Mrs. Mikael and Pekka, Tomahawk Car Club members and Road Pilots Car Club members, Everyone at All Shops visited and Fin Toy Car Club members ! Thank you!

第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007

12月2日(日)に開催される第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007(HCS)の内容がおおよそ決まりました。


USAからKennedy Brothers製作の32年 Devile Deuce。


Classic Trucks Magazine編集長であり、HCSの開催にいつも多大な協力をしてくれているRob Fortieの愛車で、Cole Foster制作のChopped 53 Chevy。



南カリフォルニアのバイクシーンに新たなシーンを作り、East LAにShopを構えるSuperco CustomsのTrevelen。
Super Co. Customs Trevelen's KIWI Indian "CRAZY HORSE"は、諸事情により展示不可能となりました。ご了承下さい。

関西弁が冴えまくり、USAのTV等で大変人気のあるChica Custom CyclesのChica。


Cole Fosterも彼の最新作「MOON Rocket」を持ち込み、


2年前に来日したKutty。

3回目の来日となるJeff Decker、そしてChoppertown DVDの中で主人公的役柄のRico、Danny Takahashi君も遊びに来るそうですから、Sinnersの中心的メンバーがヨコハマに集合って感じになるようです。



アーテイストではLine Dr.、Keith Weesner、Pizz、Harpoon、Dan Colins（？）、アルミ職人のRon Covel、AustraliaからTikiのカービングをするTiki Beat-Marcosも参加します。Trophy QueenやDicE Magazineも来ますし、ヨーロッパからはWild Motorcyclesも来日予定です。今の段階では以上ですが、日が経つにつれ話がどんどん膨れていくので、10月くらいまではハッキリした内容が確定できないのが毎年の事なのです。世界からナゼか注目される日本のショー、今年もきっと楽しくなるでしょう。HCS情報はMOONEYES WebsiteでUpされますのでマメにチェックして下さい。

The 16th Annual Yokohama HOTROD CUSTOM SHOW 2007(HCS) will be hosted on Sunday December 2nd and almost all contents has been fixed.

From USA, 1932 "Devil Deuce" build by Kennedy Brothers, "Chopped 53 Chevy" chopped by Cole Foster, owned by Rob Fortier the "Classic Trucks Magazine" chief editor and always been great help to host the HCS.

The Trevelen from Superco Customs. who has shop in East L.A., and Making new Scene in the Southern California Motorcycle scene. Chica from Chica Custom Cycles with dry West Japan accent and popular from the TV program in USA.

Cole Foster will bring his brand new bike called "MOON Rocket", Kutty who was here 2 years ago, Third time for Jeff Decker, first time for Rico who is one of main feature from the Choppertown DVD, Danny Takahashi will be here too, so all core members of "Sinners" will meet up in Yokohama.

Artists are Line Dr., Keith Weesner, Pizz, Harpoon, Dan Colins(?), Aluminum craft man Ron Covel, Tiki Beat - Marcos for Tiki Carving will be here from Australia. Trophy Queen and DicE Magazine will be here too. Wild Motorcycles from Europe will be here too.

That's all for now, but usually gets increased as the day goes by, so we can not say for sure until October. For some reason this show in Japan is getting a lot of attention from all over the world. Looks like its going to be a fun again. HCS information is updated on MOONEYES Website so please check often!

29日 日曜日は仙台へGo！

（敬称略）
明日は仙台でPRAが主催するET Drag Raceです。PRAのシリーズ戦ではないのでUSA車、VW等いろいろな車が集まる予定です。しかも今回はET Race。今まではただ走りたい放題でしたが、今回はちゃんとレース形式になるので、一回戦で負けたらもう走れません。それも寂しいですが、レースとなると緊張感があって、より凄いタイムが出るかもしれませんね。



One Low/MOONEYES Racing Tシャツ

MOONEYESはVWのチューニングではダントツのOne LowとTeamを組み、ET Raceに参戦します。VW Turboで参戦していたMOON Bugが長いことお休み状態なのと、MOONEYESのグロリア グローリーロッドもリタイアして久しく、Drag RaceでMOONEYES Carが走っていないのも何となく寂しいので今回、One Lowに相乗りさせて貰う事にしました。





VW Super Street Race CarがMOONEYESに運び込まれたのは7月18日(水）、WildmanがUSA出張より戻った翌日です。USAではDeuce Coupeを仕上げ、日本に戻ったとたんにVWです。Wildmanは忙しい！Wildmanの凄いところは時間が計れる事です。これだけの仕事をちゃんと約束の日までに仕上げてしまいました。




どうです、ちょっと70ｓのようなテイストのVWがDrag Stripを走るのです。Hoodの上には勿論大きなEyeball。皆さん今週末は仙台でこのVWを見ましょう。仙台で会いましょう！僕はプリウスで行きます！

Tomorrow ET Drag Race is hosted at Sendai , Japan by PRA. It is not official PRA series race so American cars, VWs and various cars will gather for the race. And This time its ET Race so if you loosen on first run you can't run again unlike you can run as much as you like before. That's kind of sad but may be gets serious and great time may be achieved.

For that ET Race MOONEYES will Team up with One Low who is famous for Air Cooled VW hi-performance motor. VW Turbo's MOON Bug has been taking days off for long time and since MOONEYES's Chevy Powered NISSAN Gloria "Glory Rod" has retired from the strip and since it looks sad without MOONEYES car not running on the strip so this time we are on with One Low for Drag Race.

VW Super Street Race Car has been brought to MOONEYES on Wednesday 18th July 2007, It was next day Wildman returned from USA trip. He finished off Deuce Coupe in USA and as soon as he was back in Japan he had to work on VW! Wildman is busy! Wildman is great that he can read time. He finished all this work on time.

How is it？We got little bit of 70's taste and this VW will run on Drag Strip. Of course we have big Eyeball on the hood, so please every one lets meet up in Sendai and watch this VW run! I will be going on Toyota Prius to Sendai!

El MirageとDeuce Coupe

カタログ用の写真を撮る為、Wildmanが2日掛かりで完成させた32 Ford 3 WindowをDry Lake、El Mirage（エルミラージュ）に持ち出しました。



この車は昨年のBonnevilleでChicoがLicense RunをしたDeuceですが、オーナー Timは今回 MOON YellowにPaintしてくれただけでなく、Logoも沢山入れてくれたのです。見るからにMOON Carですね。カッコイイ！

ChicoのModified Roadsterもタイヤ等を仮組みしたら、それらしくなって来ました。





Dry LakeとMOON Deuce Coupe、夢のようなコンビネーションです。

MOON Deuceは8月のBonneville Speed Weekでデビューする予定です。今年のBonnevilleには行けそうもありませんが、来年はSpeed Weekの60周年。今から計画を立て、行けるようにしないと、永遠に行けそうにありません。



Dry LakeがSouthern Californiaにあって良かったです。MOON Discは永遠ですね！



El Mirageで後ろ姿がDean MOONにそっくりなRacerに会いました。彼と友人はSide Winder Car Clubのメンバー。故 Fred Larsenもメンバーでした。

To take the pictures for Catalogs, the 32 Ford Three Window Coupe which Wildman took 2 days to finish was taken out to the Dry Lake, El Mirage. This Deuce is the one Chico took for License Run in last years Bonneville but the owner Tim wanted to make more than new MOON Yellow paint but had new Logo Painted this time. Looks MOON Car. Cool!

Chico's Modified Roadster looks like one with wheels and tires. Dry Lake and MOON Deuce Coupe, it's a dream combination. MOON Deuce will run first debut on Bonneville Speed Week in August. This year looks like not possible to go to Bonneville but next year is Speed Weeks 60th anniversary and need to plan this one or I will not be able to go forever. Lucky the Dry lake is in Southern California. MOON Disc is forever.

At El Mirage, we met a racer who looks just like Dean MOON from behind. He and his friend are member of "Side Winder Car Club". The late Fred Larsen was a member too.

箱根の旅館にWildmanのピンストライプが！

箱根に行ってきました。
理由は色々あったのですが、その沢山の理由の中でも一番の理由は、Wildman石井がピンストライプを描いた旅館が箱根にあって、その旅館が1年先まで予約が取れないという大人気旅館という事です。それは箱根宮ノ下、富士屋ホテルよりやや湯本よりにある、武蔵野本館「箱根吟遊」という旅館です。

ホテルか旅館か、というと旅館です。箱根の旅館と聞けば、老舗・伝統的本格旅館等、純和風スタイルを思い浮かべます。その純日本式旅館にピンストライプを入れた、と言うので大変興味がありました。勿論旅館ですから純和風という固定観念がありましたが、到着してみると外国人の従業員さんが出迎えてくれ、玄関こそ靴を脱ぎますが、フロントと呼ぶよりリゾートのレセプションと言った方が正しいのでは無いかと言うような受付（まさにここでは日本式にフロントではなく、レセプションと呼んでいました）。

そのレセプションのあるロビーはウッドの素材を上手に取り入れた、南方のリゾートホテルのよう。靴を脱いだ時から「ここは違う！凄い！」の連発。しかもその所々にピンストライプが描かれているのです。これが大変良く調和しています。

ロビーからラウンジ、部屋に行くまでの間にいくつものピンストライプが過剰にならない程度にさりげなく、上品に描かれていました。

部屋の鏡やトイレなども、シックな色使いでまとめられています。またその部屋が凄い！露天風呂があり、内風呂があり、和室に洋室、部屋から眺める雰囲気は、それこそどこかの国のリゾートホテルと言った感じです。勿論、箱根連山を堪能しながら入浴できる露天風呂も幾つかあります。こんな旅館見た事ありません。多分、日本でもここだけではないでしょうか。なんだかいい感じでした。今度は暖かい時に行きたい感じです。


Room - 客室

箱根吟遊は元々、箱根で永く旅館を営んでる武蔵野本館の4代目オーナー(若旦那さん)が建物を全て建替え、今のようなリゾート旅館に生まれ変わったそうです。その彼のアイデアで、ピンストライプと日本家屋の旅館をマッチさせたのです。旅館という「和」にピンストライプという「洋」がパーフェクトに溶け込んでいました。親切なスタッフの皆さん、美味しい食事、綺麗な施設、何をとっても最高のおもてなしを心得た「箱根吟遊」。素晴らしかったです。旅館の新たなるスタイルを打ち出した「箱根吟遊」、 英語では Spa-Resort Miyanoshita Hakone Ginyu です。

Wildmanのピンストライプはこれで完成したわけではありません。まだまだお仕事を頂戴しています。1年待っても泊まる価値大有りです。廊下まで畳敷きなので、スリッパを履かなくていいのも最高でした。

Traditional Japanese Hotel Called "Ryokan"
Traditional Japanese Hotel　Called "Ryokan"I went to HAKONE. There were many reason but most reason important reason was that Wildman Ishii has done Pinstripe work in that Ryokan (Japanese style hotel) in Hakone and that Ryokan is so popular that reservation are full up to a year. That Ryokan is in Hakone Miyanoshita, near Fujiya Hotel on Yumoto side. It is called Musashino-Honkan "Hakone Ginyu".

It is not exactly a Ryokan but still its Ryokan compared to being a hotel. An impression of the Ryokan in Hakone is old school traditional Japanese style Ryokan. It was very interesting as Pinstriping was done to that very traditional Japanese Ryokan. I was expecting Ryokan to be original Japanese style but when I arrived, the non-Japanese employee had welcomed me and took shoes off at the entrance but front check in counter was more like resort hotel reception (here it was called reception rather than Front).

That lobby where the reception was at used Wood material to look like resort hotel in somewhere in southeast Asia. Ever since taking shoes off in entrance I was repeating same line "This Ryokan is different and super" plus there were many pinstripes in many places blending in to the rest. From lobby to lounge and to the room there were many Pinstripe but not too much and very nice as in luxury. Also mirrors in room and bathroom were settled in low tone colors. And that room was great too, Japanese style out side bath, and in door bath, Japanese room and western room, the view is like some resort hotel in some country. Of course there was bath which you can enjoy the great view of Hakone Mountains. I have never seen such a Ryokan. Probably only here in Japan. It was really nice. I like to go again when it is warm.

Hakone Ginyu is originally Hakone Ryokan called Musashino-Honkan and its current generation owner had changed all building and made current resort Ryokan style. It was his idea to have Pinstripe in Japanese building of Ryokan. "Western culture style" Pinstripe was perfectly blending into "Japanese culture style" Ryokan. Well trained staff, nice food and beautiful premises everything was high end treat in mind at Hakone Ginyu. Excellent. New style of Ryokan from "Hakone Ginyu", formal full name in English is "Spa-Resort Miyanoshita Hakone Ginyu".

Wildman's Pinstripe is not completed yet. He still has more to continue. It is well worth waiting for a year to stay. Even the corridor is TATAMI floored so you can walk bear foot which was really great.

イタリアのカスタムショー

今回はイタリアの友人から送られて来たPadoa Custom Showの模様をお届けします。 写真からも分かりますがイタリアも盛り上がっていますね。世界中がアメリカンカスタムス漬けになっています。どうなってしまったのでしょうか？特にバイクが凄いですね。

	先日はハンガリーのバイク雑誌から日本の状況を記事にしたいと連絡があったり、日本のカスタムシーンを取材する為にドイツのケーブルTVクルーがMOON Cafeに現れたり、昨晩はDicE MagazineのEditorがやって来ました。

世界中でアメリカンバイクシーンが大盛り上がりの昨今です。そして彼らの目がUSAだけでなく、NIPPONにも向けられているのが凄いです。

"Custom Show in Italy" This issue is about "Padoa Custom Show" from picture sent from friend in Italy. You can tell from picture that Italy has heat on too. World is getting on soaked in American Customs Cultures too. McDonald, Coke, Marlboro, Hot Rod, Kustoms, Bikes and Pinstriping and so on. What really happened? Especially Bikes are extreme. Couple days ago Hungarian Bike Magazine asked us about Japanese custom scene as they want to report on their magazine. Germany cable TV crew came to MOON Cafe to take Japanese custom scene on camera. Last night DicE Magazine editor came too. Now days American Bike scene is showing strong in all over world. And their eyes are not on USA only but also on NIPPON too which is really amazing.

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink

Los AngelsにあるPetersen Museumで、Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink展が開催されているので、Wildmanと行ってきました。

この日はちょっと強行軍で、早朝 Long Beach Swap Meetに行き、そこからBurbankで開催されたPaint関係の展示会を覗き、折角LA近くまで来たのでその足でPetersen Museumを訪れました。

既に"Rat Fink's Revenge"という本で皆様も御存知かと思いますが、Wildman、Shakin'、Mr. G、Enamelなどの日本人アーテイスト達を筆頭に、各国のアーティストによって思い思いにペイントされたRat Finkの人形が展示され、またEd Rothが制作した歴代の車やバイク等も展示されたイベントでした。

生前、Ed Rothは古い物をほとんど手元に残しておらず、California, La Miradaの自宅裏にあったアトリエに少々残っていたくらいです。その後、ユタ州に引越したりで彼自身は本当に古い物を持っていなかったように記憶しています。その代わりにコレクターの方が沢山いて、バイクから車まで、そのほとんどが現存しているのではないでしょうか。

今回もBeatnik Bandit、Outlaw、Mysterion、Rotor、Road Agent & Surfiteまでが展示され、過去に発売された商品等、中々見応えがありました。2007年6月3日までの開催です。是非、LAに行った際は立ち寄ってください。

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink I went to the Ed "Big Daddy" Roth "The Original Rat Fink" Exhibition hosted at Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. California with our pisntriper Hiro "Wildman" Ishii. That day was little hard on schedule as early in the morning we went to the Long Beach Swap Meet then to the Burbank for a peek on the Paint exhibition and as we came near by LA we decided to stop by the Petersen Museum. May be most of people already know by the book called "Rat Fink's Revenge" but there was Rat Fink dolls painted by each artist from Japanese artist such as Wildman, Shakin', Mr. G, Enamel to artist from various other countries at the exhibition and historical cars and bikes made by Ed Roth were gathered and displayed at this event. In his time Ed Roth didn't have any of his worked pieces left at his hand and only few were left at his work house in back yard of his home in La Mirada, California. After that he had moved to Utah State and I recall that he himself didn't have any of his old art piece left at his hand. Instead there were plenty of collectors and most of his art pieces still exist from bikes to cars. This time Beatnik Bandit、Outlaw、Mysterion、Rotor、Road Agent & Surfite were on exhibit and collection of items that were sold in the past was well worth seeing. Exhibition is on until June 3rd.
