HCS2011 Show is Over

騒音/暴走行為の問題も無く、 皆様の協力のお陰で 20回目の Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 無事終了しました。
色々不手際もありましたがお許し下さい。 ご協力ありがとうございました！！
さすが寄る歳には勝てず体のあっちこっちが痛いです。
詳しいショーの内容は近々 Website にアップされますのでお楽しみに！！

It was with everyone's cooperation and support that the 20th Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show was a great success! There were no issues or complaints about noise or street chaos from the neighbors too.
There were some awkward moments on our part, sorry. But thank you to all for your cooperation!!
As one would expect, as the body gets older each year, the pain in various places increases.

Dean MOON, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and me.

昔々Ed "Big Daddy" Rothと夕食を取っていたある晩、「明日出かけるから一緒に行こう」と誘われ、行った先がMr. Joe "The Kustom" Morenoってオヤジの家。
このオヤジ、当時日本でも結構有名。
A long time ago, one night when having dinner with Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, he said, "I'm going out tomorrow so why don't you come with me."
He invited me to Mr. Joe "The Kustom" Moreno's ranch house.

彼の大きな家でコレクション等を色々見せてもらい、Joeから「これ」って渡されたのが、僕はガン、Big Daddyはマシンガン（どちらももちろんオモチャ）。
外に連れ出され、「俺達に明日はない」みたいなポーズを取らされ撮った写真がこれ、

僕はまだ30代、Big Daddyも50代、若かった！
His place with all kinds of collections and things to look at. Joe was like, "Here," and tossed me a gun and Big Daddy a machine gun (both, of course, were toys) and took us outside and had us pose like Bonnie and Clyde. This is the photo, I was in my 30s and Big Daddy was in his 50s, we were so young!


こっちの写真はDean MOONとSan Diegoへ買い物に行った時、途中のGas Stationで道を聞くDean。
Deanが何を買いに行ったのかは覚えていないけど　僕の用事にも付き合ってくれた1986年当時の写真。
どちらも楽しい思い出です。
This is a photo in 1986 of Dean MOON stopped at a gas station to ask directions in San Diego to buy something. I don't remember what Dean was going to buy but we did a lot of things together back then.
These are both great memories.

ショー無事終了！

ベンダーブースは大混雑、正面はちょっとすいているデトロイトジャンク。
それを見てSteelのMr. Kuwasawa氏は大喜び、
右隅でサングラスをかけているのはKustom Kultureの伝道師NASH君・・・The vendor booths were The vendor booths were really crowded with a slight clearing in the front at Detroit Junk. Seeing that, Mr. Kuwasawa of Steel was overcome with joy. In the right corner wearing sunglasses is Kustom Kulture missionary NASH.

ショーまであと10日

昨日　コンテナからUSからの車とバイクを引き出しました。
The cars and motorcycles that were shipped from the US were pulled out of the containers yesterday.
この時期になるとショーが始まるって感じがしてきます。
At this time of year, I always get this feeling inside, like the show is about to begin.

バイクもベンダーブースも過去最高のエントリー数となり会場はパンパンな感じです。
motorcycles and vendor booth entries reached a record high that the show space is mind blowing.

そうです、パンパンと言えばMOONEYES Mail Magazine EditorのTankはパンパンになったほほを押さえ「なぜこんなに？！？！」って感じでボーゼンとしていました
Yes, speaking of mind blowing, MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editor TANK, that handled the floor plan, felt the same way. "How could this be?!?!" Seen here in a daze.

ホット ロッド・カスタム ショーまであと２週間

エントリー締め切りから２週間、やっとレイアウトも決まり、今日はHot Rod Custom Show(HCS)の受理書を郵送する日です。
Two weeks after the entry deadline and the layout is finally set. Today is also when we start sending out acceptance letters for the Hot Rod Custom Show (HCS).

2008 MOONEYES Catalog

2008 MOONEYES Catalogは　Cruisin' Magazineの別冊となり、名前も「MOON Illustrated　・　ムーン　イラストレイテッド」　に変わり4月25日(金）発売開始です。





MOONEYESが20年以上に渡り提唱しているSouther California Style、Surf & Rod、Kustom Kultureをふんだんに取り入れ、またWildman石井の「Very Best of Wildman」、思いこみの強いWildmanを、これまた思いこみの強い高速有鉛編集長のフルウチ氏による独占インタービュー。

MOONEYESのNew Projects

昨日から金曜日まで、東京お台場でギフトショーが開催されています。


MOONEYESもRat Fink Feverブランドで出展し、もう数年が経ちますが、今回はRat Fink and Clay Smithブランドだけでなく、新たなライセンス契約によるRoad Runner商品のラインアップが加わりました。


また、Walt Disney Production（WDP）との契約でミッキー＆ミニー等をWildman石井がデザインし、WDPの監修により続々と新商品が発売されます。ピンストライプを多用したミッキーだったり、WildmanならではタッチをWDPからは求められていますので、今までとはちょっと違った雰囲気に仕上がる予定です。


そしてもう一つはHawaii島にHead Officeを置く、Traditiona Hawaiian Shirtsで有名なReyn SpoonerとMOONEYESのダブルネーム。


Wildman石井のデザインでモンステラにピンストライプをあしらったHawaiian Traditional生地を製作。Reyn Spoonerと言えば勿論　裏生地、プルオーバーが基本。そのベーシックである半袖プルオーバーボタンダウンシャツから、プルオーバーが苦手な方にはボタンが下まであるボタンダウン半袖シャツ、季節を問わず着れるボタンダウン長袖シャツやレディース用開襟タイプのブラウスと、キッズには大人とおそろいの半袖プルオーバーシャツがあります。その他、スイムショーツ、Baby Bibs（赤ちゃん用よだれかけ）、Beachやプールに便利なトートバックもあります。Reyn Spooner/MOONEYESのHawaiian Traditional ShirtsはMOONEYESの販売商品です。こんなシャツが欲しかったという1枚です。 メンズサイズはS～XXLまであります。 今年の夏はこれを着てSurf & Rodですね。

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink

Los AngelsにあるPetersen Museumで、Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink展が開催されているので、Wildmanと行ってきました。

この日はちょっと強行軍で、早朝 Long Beach Swap Meetに行き、そこからBurbankで開催されたPaint関係の展示会を覗き、折角LA近くまで来たのでその足でPetersen Museumを訪れました。

既に"Rat Fink's Revenge"という本で皆様も御存知かと思いますが、Wildman、Shakin'、Mr. G、Enamelなどの日本人アーテイスト達を筆頭に、各国のアーティストによって思い思いにペイントされたRat Finkの人形が展示され、またEd Rothが制作した歴代の車やバイク等も展示されたイベントでした。

生前、Ed Rothは古い物をほとんど手元に残しておらず、California, La Miradaの自宅裏にあったアトリエに少々残っていたくらいです。その後、ユタ州に引越したりで彼自身は本当に古い物を持っていなかったように記憶しています。その代わりにコレクターの方が沢山いて、バイクから車まで、そのほとんどが現存しているのではないでしょうか。

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth The Original Rat Fink I went to the Ed "Big Daddy" Roth "The Original Rat Fink" Exhibition hosted at Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. California with our pisntriper Hiro "Wildman" Ishii. That day was little hard on schedule as early in the morning we went to the Long Beach Swap Meet then to the Burbank for a peek on the Paint exhibition and as we came near by LA we decided to stop by the Petersen Museum. May be most of people already know by the book called "Rat Fink's Revenge" but there was Rat Fink dolls painted by each artist from Japanese artist such as Wildman, Shakin', Mr. G, Enamel to artist from various other countries at the exhibition and historical cars and bikes made by Ed Roth were gathered and displayed at this event. In his time Ed Roth didn't have any of his worked pieces left at his hand and only few were left at his work house in back yard of his home in La Mirada, California. After that he had moved to Utah State and I recall that he himself didn't have any of his old art piece left at his hand. Instead there were plenty of collectors and most of his art pieces still exist from bikes to cars. This time Beatnik Bandit、Outlaw、Mysterion、Rotor、Road Agent & Surfite were on exhibit and collection of items that were sold in the past was well worth seeing. Exhibition is on until June 3rd. 4月22日(土)、Utah州Manti（メンタイ）市にあるMrs. Ed "Big Daddy" Rothの家を訪ねてきました。 今年で、Ed Rothがこの世から旅立ち早くも5年となります。と言っても彼は何時も我々の心の中にいる訳ですから、そんなに時間が経ったとも感じません。

今回の訪問は、実はRothの奥さんが長く作り続けてきたRat Fink Convention Center（RFCC)が遂に完成したのです。 RFCCの中にはEd Rothの作品や、Work Shop、Gift Shopもあり、PinstripersのギャザリングやArtistの会合などに使ってもらう為の施設として、十分な大きさの建物です。

この日は外でCar Show＆ライブバンド演奏もあり、午後には街のメインストリートでクルーズ、そして夜には3月にテキサス州 オースチンでプレミア試写会が開催された、Ed Rotｈの生涯を語った「TALES OF THE RAT FINK、A Film About "BIG DADDY" ED ROTH」というタイトルのムービー試写会がRFCCで開催されたのです。これは一見の価値があります。Rat Finkの生い立ちや、Ed RothとHot Rodの関係とか、興味深い内容ばかりでした。本当に小さいCity of Mantiに、まさに"Home of Rat Fink"と呼ぶのに相応しい施設が出来ました。

映画と言えば2月にブログで紹介した"The World's Fastest Indian"が8月頃いよいよ日本でも見られるようです。これも楽しみな作品です。 まったく違う事ですが、6月11日(日）東京お台場で開催予定の "Motorcycle Show & Swap Meet" と "2nd Annual Street Rod Nationals" を同時開催する事となりました。"Choppers and Hot Rods"です。楽しみですね！ぜひカレンダーに丸を付けておいて下さい。

"Rat Fink Convention Center" On Saturday April 22nd , I went to visit Mrs. Ed "Big Daddy" Roth at her house in Manti city, Utah USA. Five years has passed by since Ed Roth has passed away. But he still lives in each of our heart and doesn't feel like being away so long. This time I have visited to see the completion party of Rat Fink Convention Center (RFCC). RFCC has enough space to invite Pinstripers and Artist for gathering and has work shop, Gift shop and Ed Roth's work displayed inside. There was live band playing and car shows at out side, with cruise at main street in town and on the night, "TALES OF THE RAT FINK, A Film About "BIG DADDY" ED ROTH" premier movie of the life story of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was shown in RFCC which was shown at TEXAS Austin in March. This movie is worth watching. It contained Story behind the birth of Rat Fink, relation of Ed Roth and Hot Rod and all interesting story. Small City of Manti has brand new facility well worth to call "Home of Rat Fink". By the way, "Motorcycle Show & Swap Meet" on Sunday June 11th at Odaiba Tokyo and "2nd Annual Street Rod Nationals" will be hosted together at same time. Choppers and Hot Rods, should be cool. Please mark it on your calendar.
