Billy F Gibbons' "Mexican Blackbird"

12月6日、18th Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2009 にやって来る、
Billy F Gibbons' Mexican Blackbird、'58 Ford Thunderbird の撮影を So-Cal Speed Shopで、して来ました。
10月末発売予定の MOON Illustrated Magazine #4（MIM　#4)用の撮影でした。
I went to watch a photo session, of Billy F Gibbons and his "Mexican Blackbird" '58 Ford Thunderbird, at So-Cal Speed Shop. They will be coming to the 18th Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2009 on December 6th.
The photos will be for MOON Illustrated Magazine #4 (MIM #4) which is scheduled to be released in October.

Billy はその日の夕方には飛行機に乗りツアーに出なくてはいけないと言う忙しい中、
時間を割いて撮影に参加してくれました。　カメラマンは ZAP！彼らしい素晴らしい仕上がりだと思います。
でも1958 T-birdカッコ良かったです。
That evening after the photos were taken, Billy had to go straight onto a plane as his ZZ Top band is currently on tour. He was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule just for the pictures. Working the camera lens is ZAP! I think it perfectly matches his style.
The 1958 T-bird was really cool.

MOONEYESの倉庫゛にある1960 T-birdもこんなになるのでしょうか？やれば成るのでしょう。
MIM #4 にこの1960 T-birdのStoryが掲載されます。
Over at the MOONEYES warehouse in Japan is a 1960 T-bird. I wonder if it could look like this? I'm sure it's possible, just have to do it.
MIM #4 will also have an article about the 1960 T-bird.

Dodge Challenger

FreewayでNew Challengerを見つけたので前のブログで古い Challenger を紹介した時と
同じような角度で撮ってみました。

While I was on the Freeway I saw the New Challenger. I remember posting about seeing an old Challenger before (past blog post), so I tried to take photos the same way.

右の画像は前のブログの古いChallengerです。

真後ろから見るとやはり腰から下が大きいですね。
Looking at it from directly behind, it really does have bottom half.

この角度はカッコ良いです。
I like the angle of this shot.

Bonneville Speed Week

Wendover, Utah の Bonneville Salt Flats にいます。
初めて来てから20年、走っている車は大分変わりましたが景色はまったく変わりません。
ここが海の底だった何て信じられません。

I am at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, UT (USA).
It's been about 20 years since the first time I was here and although the cars have probably changed, the scenery is exactly the same.
It's hard to believe this used to be the bottom of the sea at one time.

Brand New Camaro! On the Salt!! (新型カマロだ！しかも、塩の上に！！)
レンタカーなのに塩付けいいのかな？
It's a rent-a-car so I wonder if I'm allowed to be on the salt?

個人的には、チャレンジャーの方がいいです。
Personally, I like the Challenger much better.

VW T-II

土曜日(7月4日) のブログを作っていたら思い出しちゃったのです。 ブログに載せた VW T-2、後日Staff の居眠り運転でこんなになってしまったのです。
While doing the blog last Saturday (July 4), it brought back this memory. The fate of the VW T-2 photo posted to the blog, would end up like this from a Staff member that fell asleep while driving.

第三京浜港北インター出口の分かれ目にまっすぐ突っ込んだのです。
Coming off of Dai-san Keihin Highway, Kouhoku Exit, right on the off ramp where it begins, the car went straight into the median.

深夜、自宅に電話が鳴り
It was late at night when my home phone rang.

スタッフ： 「もしもし・・・です。車ぶつかっちゃって動かないのでそのまま置いて帰っていいですか？」
STAFF: Hello? This is ---. I bumped the car and now it won't move so can I leave it there for now and go?

僕： 寝ぼけながら 「置いて帰るって今どこ？」
ME: (While still half sleeping) Leave it there? Where are you?

スタッフ： 「車は第三京浜の港北インターに下りる本線上にあります」
STAFF: The car is right off of Dai-san Keihin Highway, on top of the median.

僕： 「で君は今どこ」
ME: And, where you at.

携帯電話はまだそんなに普及してない時代ですから、
スタッフ： 「歩いて料金所を出た所の公衆電話からです。板金屋も近いので明日引き取りでいいですか？」

This was a time when mobile phones were still not wide spread, so
STAFF: I walked back to the tollgate where I exited, at a payphone.

ウチの車を修理してくれているAuto Connectionさんは港北インターからすぐだったのですが。。。
Our cars are serviced at Auto Connection and they are real close to Kouhoku Exit, so...

僕： 「良いわけないだろ。そこの高速機動隊へ行って事情を話し、君は捕まっていなさい！」
と言って夜中ノロノロと身柄を引き下げに行ったのです。幸い飲酒運転では無かったのですぐ帰れました。

ME: Absolutely not, obviously. Go to the Expressway Police and discuss the situation with them, you have to turn yourself in!
After saying that, in the midnight hours I when to pick the staff member up. I was grateful it wasn't a drunken driving case so it was over quite quickly and we return home.

この頃、他に２台居眠りで廃車になっています。
Around this time period, there were two other cars that were decommissioned.


その一台は Bonneville Racer、Fred Larsen が新車から乗り毎年Bonnevilleで彼のRace Car のＰｕｓｈ Ｃａｒとして活躍し その後譲ってもらった 1969 El Camino も電柱にぶつかって廃車になりました。
One in particular was Bonneville Racing Legend, Fred Larsen's, purchased and owned since new, used every year as a Push Car for his race car at Bonneville, 1969 El Camino. It was crashed into a telephone pole and decommissioned.

この時も、「も　も　もし　もし・・・・」 当時 営業時間外の電話は恐怖でした。
When that accident happened I got the call again, "Heh, h-hello?" At the time, any phone call I got after hours I already knew something was wrong.

さて引き揚げてきた T-2 は修理不能な為廃車。
Anyway, back to the T-2 story. After I picked up the driver, it was determined not possible to repair the T-2 so it was decommisioned from road use.


ハイエナのように部品を外す T-2 オーナーの２人のスタッフとぶつけた本人です。
Like a pack of Hyenas, these 3 guys took the parts off. Two of them were T-2 owners and the other was the crasher himself.

車はこんなになりましたが本人はご覧通りの筋肉派、ダメージも無くケロッとしているのがしゃくに障ります。
この本人、今は沖縄でスキューバダイビングの Ｓｈｏｐ を経営していますので良かったら行ってあげて下さい！

You can see how the car was severely damaged but the driver, physically well built, escaped without any injury and even acted as if nothing happened, which kind of made me sick.
Speaking of the driver, he now resides in Okinawa and manages a Scuba Diving Shop so if anyone is out that way, feel free to stop by!

Deuce Factory の笠井さんから買ったカッコ良い T-2 だったのに・・・
It was such an awesome T-2 that I purchased from Deuce Factory of Japan's Mr. Shun Kasai...

そう言えば Ｅｌ Cａｍｉｎｏ を潰した奴も今沖縄に居るんだ！
Speaking of which, the "person" that wrecked the El Camino now resides in Okinawa too!

Old Men Going Racing

7月26日(日）富士Speedway で開催される Super American Festival, '69 Camaro ＆amp; Vega、2台とも Drag Race 出場に受理して頂けました！　2人の合わせて107歳　オジサンがんばります！
It's been confirmed, JULY 26 (Sunday) Super American Festival at Fuji Speedway, both the '69 Camaro & Vega will participate in the Drag Races!

Drag Race in 仙台

先週末はPRAのOpenning戦プラスIgnite Speed Trialが仙台ハイランドで開催されたので、
横浜を土曜日の4：30に出発し仙台へ向いました。
Last weekend was the PRA Opening Drags plus Ignite Magazine Speed Trial at SENDAI Hi-land, so we left Yokohama at 4:30AM on Saturday and headed for Sendai (northern Japan)

桜前線は北上し、高速代も安くなったので道路は混むだろうと予測し、早めに横浜を出ました。東北自動車道は想像通り乗用車の量が多く、大変走り辛い環境にも関わらず、仙台に9：30には到着したので悪くありません。
The Cherry Blossoms were blooming up north and the express way tolls had recently been decreased so we left Yokohama extra early assuming the roads would be crowded. Just as we thought, Touhoku Express Way was very crowded with cars. However, even with the traffic, we arrived in Sendai by 9:30AM which isn't bad timing.

土曜日はレースではなく練習走行が出来るので、調子見たりしながら3回走りました。
Saturday wasn't a race day but we made 3 practice runs to test and check the conditions.

今回の目玉はなんと言ってもVegaです。
結果はコンスタントに12秒台を出していたので、足廻りなどのセッテイングがまだの状態での走行としては上出来しょう。車が小さいから運転が大変そうでした。　
The main focus for us was the Vega. The results were constant 12 second times with no adjustments made to any settings. The car is small which made driving a challenge.

Camaroは10秒台をマークしましたが、昨年のBestには及びませんでした。
土曜日3回目の走行中1000ft辺りでハンドルの遊びが大きくなり、壁に寄って行ったため修理を試みましたが、残念ながら修理できず日曜日のレースには参加できませんでした。
The Camaro clocked in at the 10.47 mark but didn't reach last year's Best time(10.21). On Saturday during the 3rd run at about 1,000 ft the steering became loose and the car came very close to the side wall. Although we tried to work on the issue, it wasn't fixed and the car didn't run on Sunday.

次は7月、富士で開催されるSuper American Festivalに参加の予定です。
それまでに車直します。
The next event will be held in July at Fuji during the Super American Festival, which we plan to attend. The car will be fixed by then.

Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet

Southern California , Long Beachで毎月開催される（今年から毎月）Long Beach Swap Meetに
MOONEYESも出店していますがこの所少しづつではありますが認知されてきたようです。
Held each month (once a month started this year) in Long Beach, southern California is the Long Beach Swap Meet. MOONEYES has a space there and although small it’s been getting noticed more recently.

と思っているとはるかかなたにMOON Cafeのパーカーを着た人が歩いているではありませんか！
結構　日本製製品が人気あります。嬉しい事に「これ日本製？」って良い響きで尋ねられのです。
Just as I thought this, off in the distance I spotted someone wearing a MOON Cafe hooded jacket! Japanese products are reasonably popular right now. I heard the question, "Is this made in Japan?" being asked quite a bit.

まずMOONEYES Wildman石井デザインのMotorcycle Tシャツの人気は凄い！
However, MOONEYES Wildman designed Motorcycle T-shirts were amazingly popular!

そしてこのハンドル実は、IM Factoryさんが作ってくれているのですが、注目度かなり高いです。
These handlebars were also popular. These are made by IM Factory in Japan and get a lot of attention.

Brat Style製のハンドルの人気がありますし、このRat Fink SkateboardやBull Original製のMOONEYES SeatやRat Fink Seatも大人気でした。
Brat Style in Japan made handlebars were also popular as well as the Rat Fink Skateboard and these Bull Original, handmade, MOONEYES and Rat Fink seats are also from Yokohama Japan.

そうしたら目の前にさっきのMOON Cafeパーカーが反対側の店で何か見ていたので
「それどうしたの？」と聞いたら「昨年のHot Rod・Custom Showに行った際に購入した」との事。ありがとうございます。
All of a sudden, right in front of me at a table across from us was the person wearing the MOON Cafe hooded jacket from earlier. I got a chance to ask him about it and he said it bought it when he was at the Hot Rod Custom Show last year. Thank you very much.

今回サンプルで持って行った5.5QTのChopper Oil Tankも注目を集めていましたし、
勿論、通常のChopper Oil Tankは根強い人気でした。
We brought a sample with us this time of the new 5.5qt Chopper Oil Tank and it got a lot of attention, of course, like a general Chopper Oil Tank would get.

USではまだ正式には発売していないEmergency Fuel TankはSampleをどうしてもと言う人が購入してくれました。
Although it's not officially released in the US, we brought our Emergency Fuel Tank and aluminum bracket sample and someone purchased it.

会場にはあふれんばかりのハーレーだったので、気になったCB500とモンキーです。
At the swap meet there was an overflow of H-D bikes but this Honda CB500 caught my eye as well as this Honda Monkey.

Swapt Meetでは昨年HCSに来日したMarkがブースを出していました。
Mark, a guest from HCS last year, had a space setup at the swap meet too.

初めのころはあまりパッとしなかったMOONEYESブースをめげることなく出店し続けてくれたYoshi君、ありがとう。
今年からこのSwap Meetは毎月になりました。数年前まで閑古鳥が鳴いていたような状況でしたが
やはり「継続」ですね。今は入りきらない位の状況です。
At first, the MOONEYES table wasn't very popular but we are thankful that Yoshi didn't run away and stuck it out.
Beginning this year, the swap meet is held once a month. A number of years ago it was struggling but they continued on. Now, it's like there isn't enough room for everyone to enter.

Storage or Junkyard?

Southern California, South Bay Areaにあるストレージです。ジャンクヤードのようですがこれはれっきとしたストレージでお金を払って預けているのですが車は傷んだ物が多いです。これでも月に100ドル位は掛かりますから結構な出費になります。でもこんな楽しいストレージは見た事ありません。
A storage in Southern California, South Bay Area. It looks like a junkyard but it is a storage and each stall is being paid for although these cars are getting damaged. Each month costs about $50-100 so it's not exactly cheap. However, I've never seen such a fun storage area before.

検品 - taking QC

台湾から大量のHub Capが入荷、今朝は8時からスタッフ総出で検品です。
A large shipment of Hub Caps arrived from Taiwan, so the staff get together at 08:00 for inspection.

Hub Cap 一枚一枚、手と目で確認です。必ず数枚、場合によっては数十枚の不良品がこの作業で見つかります。もうこの作業を20年以上やっていますが今だにはじかれる商品があるのは作る側に問題ありですね。
One by one, each Hub Cap is confirmed both visually and physically. Without a fail, depending on the situation, there are several to dozens of inferior items discovered during this process. This particular duty has been done for over 20 years. Even now, the fact that defective items are present is because the manufacturing process hasn't changed.

それとも我々日本人がうるさいのでしょうか？ちなみにMOONEYES USAではやっていませんが、販売先からのクレームもありません。　
Or perhaps it's us Japanese that are too picky?
Incidentally, MOONEYES USA doesn't do this process but hasn't had any sales claims either.

久しぶりに天気も良くなったので冬の間に枯れつつあったバナナの葉っぱを切り落としました。
葉っぱを切っているのはMonkey村上君です。
It's been a while since the weather was this nice so we cut down the banana leaves that had withered over the winter. Cutting the leaves by Mr. Monkey Murakami.

昨年の冬はほぼ全壊に近く枯れてしまったのですが、今年は結構緑が残っています。
これも暖冬の影響なのでしょうか？
Last winter it almost withered entirely but this year a lot of green remains.
I wonder if this is the result of the mild winter as well?

そして17インチタイヤに入れて一安心のPan君です。
Lastly, Pan is feeling safe and sound inside 17-inch tires, look like Michelin Boy!

V-8 Forever

週末MOON Garageがカッコイイ事になっていました。
MOON Garage looked really cool over the weekend.

1972 Vega Wagon、1987 Elcamino、 1973 Nova、1969 Camaro Z-28、ガレージ内は1969 Camaro RS and VW "MOON Buggy" 気が付いたらUSA車だらけでした。

ちょっと前までは1969 Elcamino SSもありました。
There was a 1972 Vega Wagon, 1987 El Camino, 1973 Nova and a 1969 Camaro Z-28 parked in front. As well as a 1969 Camaro RS and the MOON Buggy parked inside. After taking the photo I realized it was all USA Cars.
Just a little while before this photo there was a 1969 El Camino SS here too.

やっぱり、V-8は気持ちいいですね！！
この画像を見る限りGMやFORDが大変だなんてとても思えません。
Actually, V-8s are so awesome!!
Looking at this photo, it's hard to believe that GM or Ford could be in such hard times.

MOONEYES USA Machine Shop

MOONEYES USAのMachine Shopの中です。
使っている機械はすべて古い物です。Computerで動く物は一つもありません。Machine Shopで一番新しいテクノロジーはプッシュボタン式電話です。

The machines that are used are all old. There are no computers connected or running the machines. The newest technology being used in the Machine Shop is the push-button telephone.

これはMOON DiscsやMOON Tankを作るためのSpining Machineです。日本では「シボリ」と呼ばれていますね。今MachineにセットされているのはMOON Discを作る出すための金型です。
This is the Spinning Machine which is used to make MOON Discs and MOON Tanks. In Japan, the process is called "Shibori". Right now, the machine is setup with a metal mold for making MOON Discs and the rods and dies are used for shaping.

長い２台はエンジン旋盤機で、１台はMOON TANKのボディーを 「SUN RAY」加工したり、カムシャフトを「トルーイング」加工するために使います。もう1台は、バングなどを加工するのに使うものです。
2 long ones are engine lathe and one we use to sun ray tank bodies and camshaft trueing. other we use to machine parts such as bungs,.

壁側に並んでいる２台のマシーンは 「ブリッジ・ポート ミリング マシーン」といって、 ボール盤の基本機能に加えて、アングルをつけてドリルしたり、表面を削るなどができるものです。
2 against wall are bridge port milling machine. it's like drill press, but with more functions and angles to drill or cut surface.

今日はFinlandからPinstriperのPekkaが立ち寄ってくれたので、Dean MOON Jr.がShopツアーをしてくれました。
Shopツアー希望の方、スタッフまでお尋ねください。
A Pinstriper from Finland named Pekka stopped by for short visit today. Dean MOON Jr. gave him a shop tour. Whenever you visit the Mooneyes USA and you are interested in the shop, please ask one of the staff for a tour.

ダイゴ

先週のブログで紹介したBlue Maxのオーナー、中村大悟 通称「ダイゴ」
雑誌デイトナの表紙の絵を描いていたと言えば知っている方も多いと思う。
そのダイゴが先月突然他界した。　
In last weeks blog entry I introduced the owner of Blue Max, Mr. Daigo Nakamura aka DAIGO. He is also famous for the cover artwork he did for Daytona magazine. Well, that DAIGO, sadly, passed away unexpectedly last month.

彼とは中学校1年生からの付き合い、
MOON Discの発売も最初はBlue Maxだった。
We knew each other since my first year in middle school and in fact,
Blue Max was the first to carry MOON Discs from us.

[1984年頃 初めて出した広告。6ヶ月出して予算の都合中止。]
[This was the first advertisement of MOON Discs released around 1984.
It was used for about six months then stopped because of financial situation.]

ご冥福をお祈り致します。
I miss him very much.

Honda CB750 K-3 Cafe Racer

CB750のCafe Racerです。
７０年代、Cafe Racerって流行りました。
このビルダーはイギリスの人ですが、日本ではヨシムラ集合にコンチネンタルハンドルとか多かったですね。今回Pomonaで開催されたショーに出展されていました。
This is a CB750 Cafe Racer.
Cafe Racers of the 70s era are currently popular.
The builder of this bike is from the United Kingdom but back in the 70s in Japan, we used to use a lot of Japanese parts like Yoshimura 4 into 1 hand bent muffler, Continental Style handlebars etc.
This bike was on display at the event held in Pomona, CA.

Bonneville(BNI)のTrophy

昨年8月の 60th Annual Bonneville Speed WeekでWorld Recordを出した際、BNIから贈られたTrophyです。素敵ですね！
BNI awarded Chico with this Trophy for the World Record that was set last year in August at the 60th Annual Bonneville Speed Week. It sure is awesome!

BonnevilleのRaceは賞金は出ません。　
このTrophyだけのために皆走っているのです。
A Race at Bonneville doesn't have prize money, and everyone runs just for this Trophy.

今年のSpeed Weekは8月8日（土）～14日（金）です。
今年はBonnevilleに行けるのでしょうか？
This year, Speed Week will be from August 8th (Saturday) through the 14th (Friday).
The question is, will we be able to go to Bonneville this year?

横浜 フォード

1927年～41年まで横浜それもMOONEYES Area-1のすぐ近くにフォードの横浜工場があったそうです。
There used to be a Ford Assembly Plant in Yokohama, close to MOONEYES Area-1, from 1927 through 1941.

後ろに見えるのがベイブリッジ、右方向が本牧、左方向が東京です
In the background is the Bay Bridge, on the right side is HONMOKU and to the left is TOKYO.

部品はUSAから輸入し日本でノックダウン生産していた工場がこの後ろの建物です。
Parts were imported from the USA and assembled in Japan at a Knockdown Production factory which stood behind this building.

その工場で作られた一台がこの１９３４年型フォード フェートンです。もちろん右ハンドル、キロ表示のメーターです。
One of those vehicles that was built there was this 1934 Ford Phaeton. Of course, being built in Japan, it's right-hand-drive (RHD) and the gauges are in kilometers.

第二次大戦時横浜は空襲で焼け野原になったそうですが　この土地は戦前フォードが持っていた物だったので（戦中は軍に接収されていたそうです）、米軍はやがて来る戦後を考えてか、この地域を空襲しなかったようで、当時の建物がそのまま残っていました。ですからこの建物の面構えはそれとなくＵＳ的ではありませんか？
During WWII, Yokohama was heavily air-raided and burnt to the ground. However, some area survived as this Ford was build on these very grounds before the war (it was supposedly confiscated by the military during the war).Perhaps for post-war reasons there were places that the military did not air-raid, thus some buildings survived and were used again. Maybe that is why this building has a US-look?

その横浜、2009年来年は開港150周年だそうです。
In 2009, next year, the city of Yokohama will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port.

ショー無事終了！

ショーまであと10日

昨日　コンテナからUSからの車とバイクを引き出しました。
The cars and motorcycles that were shipped from the US were pulled out of the containers yesterday.
この時期になるとショーが始まるって感じがしてきます。
At this time of year, I always get this feeling inside, like the show is about to begin.

バイクもベンダーブースも過去最高のエントリー数となり会場はパンパンな感じです。

そうです、パンパンと言えばMOONEYES Mail Magazine EditorのTankはパンパンになったほほを押さえ「なぜこんなに？！？！」って感じでボーゼンとしていました
Yes, speaking of mind blowing, MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editor TANK, that handled the floor plan, felt the same way. "How could this be?!?!" Seen here in a daze.

ホット ロッド・カスタム ショーまであと２週間

エントリー締め切りから２週間、やっとレイアウトも決まり、今日はHot Rod Custom Show(HCS)の受理書を郵送する日です。

SEMA ショー 2008

新しいCamaroはSunocoカラーだし、ChallengerはHURST Challengerになっていました。
こう言う車を見ちゃうとつくづくアメリカ車はカッコイイなって思います。
さて今年もMOONEYESは、SEMA ショー Hot Rod Alleyに出展しました。
世の中の動向が悪い中　今年のSEMAはどうなるか心配しましたが　明けてみればそんな心配は無用！大変盛り上がっていました。
On display was the New Camaro with Sunoco color scheme as well as a Challenger in HURST Challenger clothes.
It's seeing cars like this that make me think about how cool American cars are.
This year, MOONEYES went to the SEMA Show and had a display booth in Hot Rod Alley.
In these current times of difficulty, there was some worry about how this year's SEMA show would be. However, once there at the show and seeing the action, the worrying was useless! Everyone there was in high spirits and having a great time.

　
さてMOONEYESブースに立ち寄られた方々を紹介します。

九州 SS Runの社長もいらっしゃいました。
and president of SS Run from Kyushu also came by.

USAでToyotaのイベントと国産旧車のイベントを運営しているMr.& Mrs.Yamaguchiさん
なぜ２人一緒に写っていないかと言うと　Babyが一緒だったため、Babyをつれて入場できないので
交代でBabyを見ていたそうです。　
Mr. & Mrs. Yamaguchi stopped by. They manage Toyota events and Japanese Old-Domestic car event in the USA. Why wasn't there a photo of both of them you ask? Well, they had brought their baby with them and children are not allowed into the area so they had to take turns.

最後は久しぶりにタケマルさんでした。
Lastly, Mr. Takemaru whom we haven't seen in a while.

たくさんの方にブースに寄って頂きましたが　話に夢中になり写真を撮り忘れたりで「僕も居たのに」と言う方、ご免なさい。と言うSEMA報告でした。
There were so many more people that came by the booth and many times I was chatting with them that I forgot to take a picture. Thank you for stopping by and sorry about not getting a photo. And that's my SEMA report.


PS. 先月のBlogでカレッジ時代の友人と会った事を紹介しましたが　今日また一人友人のArtがTomと現れました。3人とも同じ寮で3年あまりを過ごしたので、会うのは15年振りになりますが、会えば30年前に逆もどりでした。中央がそのBig Artです。
PS. In a recent blog entry I mentioned about an old college friend, Tom. Today, he brought another old friend, Art. The 3 of us shared a dormitory for three years. It's been about 15 years since we last seen each other but to meet again is like going back 30 years in time. In the middle is Big Art!

Gasser - ガッサー??

Gasser、日本ではガッサー？僕的はギャッサーの方がSound rightなんですが
当社のSteveが ”ガッサー” って言うから、どうやらそうらしい。
GASSER. In Japanese, spelling is based on pronunciation so how is Gasser spelt?
For me, I say it like [Gya-sah] which sounds right but our "native" English speaker, Steve, says [Gas-sah] without the minor Y sound. He says it's the same as GASOLINE. Perhaps a good point.

さて、Bakersfieldで見たGasser Styleのレースカー達です。
USではまだこのブームは続いています。
Anyway, here are some Gasser Style racers from our trip to Bakersfield.
This "LOOK" is still very popular in the US.

そしてGasserの肝はなんと言ってもMOON DecalとMOON　Fuel Tankです。
Speaking of GASSERS, many were equipped with MOON Decals and/or a MOON Fuel Tank, which suit this car perfectly.

カスヒルってなんだ？？

先週末は10回目のカスヒルこと「カスタムヒル」でした。
Last weekend was the 10th Custom Hill meeting.

当日の天気は富士山を一望できる快晴！
The weather on this day was excellent with an unfiltered shot of Mt. Fuji.

早朝、横浜を出発したスタッフも合流し会場へGO！
We met up with other MOONEYES Staff that left Yokohama in the early morning and together to the event area it was GO!

グリーンが綺麗な会場は最高です。
A meeting place with clean and beautiful green is so perfect.

ほぼ一日中、富士山を見る事ができました。
There was an excellent view of Mt. Fuji almost all day long.

農家のオジサンではありません。Deuce Factoryの笠井さんです。
That's not a old farmer. That's the Deuce Factory Japan's Mr. Kasai.

搬出途中で会場を後にしたParadise Roadの下平さん・生井さん
Mr. Junichi Shimodaira & Mr. Namai of Paradise Road left early while the event was still going on.

久しぶりに会場を早く出たので、ヘルメットを被り帰路を急ぐドライバーのMr.Blue.
It's been a while for him to leave early but with his helmet on, driver Mr. Blue rushed out.

31 October (Friday) is almost here and MOON Illustrated Magazine (MIM) vol.2 will be available across the nation at all bookstores. This issue has a total of 150 pages and 2/3 is featured articles with 1/3 including products that were released after MIM#1 plus new products for Fall and Winter. The main focus around most of the content and featured articles is Southern California centric as well as Wildman's Hentai page among other content.
And it's bilingual English and Japanese!

2008 MOONEYES Catalog

2008 MOONEYES Catalogは　Cruisin' Magazineの別冊となり、名前も「MOON Illustrated　・　ムーン　イラストレイテッド」　に変わり4月25日(金）発売開始です。

Goodguysのショー

Goodguys主催のEventがCost MesaのOrange County Fair Groundでありました。

Muscle CarのEventではありませんが（多分）Muscle Carが多く、


「Pro Touring」を筆頭に

Jerry's GTO



USの過熱ぶりを垣間見ることが出来たようです。

昔は69年のテールが好きでしたが


最近は68年が好きになってきました



会場にはスラロームコースもあり、


68年Camaro、


69年Camaroに混ざり、

'69 Camaroは何をやってもカッコイイです

Chevelleも数台走っていましたが、Camaroはさすが、様になっていました。


このようなEventでは過去には絶対見られない企画でしたが、状況は変わってきたようです。何であれ、V-8の快調なサウンドを聴くのは刺激的ですね。

週末にArea-1へ来店されたMOON Fan、Crownはもちろん1-JZ換装車です。


そしてもう一人、MOONEYES オリジナル Reyn Spooner シャツが似合うMOON Fanも紹介します。


Goodguys hosted event at Orange County Fair Ground in Costa Mesa, CA. Guess it was not hosted as Muscle Car event but many Muscle Cars showed up and was able to see how "Pro Touring" and all kinds of car scene were heating up in US.

There was a slalom course set up at in side the show space, with 1968 & 69 Camaro on the course some Chevelles were there too and as might have been expected Camaro made perfect scene not only at Drag Race but also at road race. This type of plan was not seen in this kind of event before and guess recent situation has changed. But whatever the situation is, it is stimulative thing to hear the sound of V-8 in excellent condition.

Introducing here is one of MOON Fan who visited Honmoku Area-1 Shop on last weekend, with this 1970 Toyota Crown which of course has swapped Toyota 1-JZ motor. And one more MOON Fan who looks great in MOONEYES Original Reyn Spooner Hawaiian Traditional shirts.

Modified Roadster

LAXに着いたら八重桜？かな？綺麗に咲いていました。何度となく乗り降りしているのに、出口の目の前にこんな綺麗な花が咲いているのに今までまったく気がつきませんでした。

さて、MOONEYES USAではModified Roadsterが逆さまになり、アルミ板が張られ、Motorもバラバラになっている状態でした。このMotorはFred Larsenが300mphを記録したRecord Motorです。これから組み直しをして載せようと言うのです。何マイル出るか期待するより、まずクルマが完成する事に期待したいです。



When I arrived at LAX, beautiful cherry I think it is "Yae-zakura" was in blossom. I have arrived and departed so many times but never noticed this beautiful flower in blossom before.

Now at MOONEYES USA, Modified Roadster was set up side down with aluminum sheet fixed on to cover underneath and motor was taken all apart. This motor is the Record Motor which Fred Larsen made 300 mph record. Plan is to assemble this motor and loaded on. First hope this Roadster will be completed and then hope about how many miles per hour this Roadsters will make on top speed.

Hot Rod Magazine 1975年5月号

カタログを作る時期が来ました。と言っても遅いくらいですが、そんな事もあり古い写真をあさっていたら、1974年にCaliforniaに行った友人が1976年に送ってくれた写真が出てきました。CATの帽子、BellのJacket、電話機、そして椅子が70年代していますね！


友人のT.C君

壁に掛かっている写真はChicoの1970 Chevelle SSと、Oyabunと呼ばれていた友人のDuster 340です。場所はCoster MesaにあったChicoのハウス、このハウスには僕も大変お世話になりました。この写真を撮った場所は多分Chico's Parentのハウス前だと思います。とここまでは友人のUSA近況報告の写真ですが、この写真はただこれだけの話では終わりませんでした。

当時僕は日本で解体寸前の1960 Thunderbirdを持っていて、Hot Rodするのに何か資料はないか、洋書を扱う東京青山の島田洋書や銀座のイエナ書店、原宿のキデイランドなどでHot Rod Magazine、Hot RoddingやCar Craftを立ち読みし、気に入った雑誌だけ購入していたのです。当時、Hot Rod Magazineは750円くらい。値段は今とあまり変わりませんが、大きく違うのはアルバイトの時給。当時、時給は250円位からだったと思います。だから簡単には買えない事情がありました。またThunderbirdをHot Rodにするなんて言う人はUSAではあまりいなかったのでしょう。 どの雑誌をみてもThunderbirdは出てこないのです。対象車ではなかったのですが1960 Thunderbirdが僕に買えた唯一のUSA車だったので、これを何とかする以外他にUSA車に乗れる方法はなかったのです。

そんなある日、遂にHot Rod Magazine 1975年5月号の読者投稿欄に、1959年ですが同型のThunderbirdが載っていたのです。それも白黒の小さい写真、でもこの1枚でこの雑誌を購入しました。その後、雑誌を眺めているとThunderbirdの下にはChico Kodama、Kouichi Kurosawaって日本人の名前でHot Rodが2台映った写真が載っていて、「へー凄いなー」と思った以外、その二人が誰であるか当時は知る由もありませんでした。しかしその1年後、友人が送ってくれた写真の後ろに写っている2台を観て「あれ！」っとなったわけです。こんな事ってあるのでしょうか？って位ビックリました。





そんな事があり1977年この友人を頼りにThunderbirdの部品購入の為Californiaを訪れChicoを紹介してもらい、Oyabunとも会い、その後1978年にCaliforniaに行くきっかけにもなる雑誌だったのです。このHot Rod Magzineは僕と一緒に1978年USAに行き、3年半をUSAで過ごし、一緒に日本に帰ってきたアメリカ帰りです。なぜか分かりませんが持っていた洋書を全て（と言っても数冊ですが）USAに持って行ったのです。なぜでしょう？

The time for making MOONEYES Annual Catalog has came. But it was already little late to start, and I was looking through old pictures again and found a picture taken by my friend in 1976 at California. The CAT baseball cap, Bell Racing jacket, phone and chair are so 70s'. The picture on wall is Chico's 1970 Chevelle SS and his friend called Oyabun's 1970 Duster 340. It was taken at Chico's house in Costa Mesa and I visited this house so many times. I think this picture was taken at in front of Chico's Parents house. That was little update about my friend in USA but there is more about this picture.

Back then in Japan I had a 1960 Thunderbird which was on the verge of falling apart and I was looking for source of ideas to make it in to a Hot Rod at book stores like "Shimada Import Books" in Aoyoama Tokyo, "IENA Book Store" in Ginza and "Kiddy Land" in Harajuku, both were in Tokyo where they had imported magazines from USA such as Hot Rod Magazine, Hot Rodding and Car Craft which I flipped through and purchased only the one I liked. Hot Rod Magazine was about 750yen ($7.50) back then. The price hasn't change much but hourly-wage was low as 250yen per hour($2.50) and I couldn’t purchase them easily then.

And since not many people tried to make a Hot Rod out of such Thunderbird in USA, there was hardly any Thunderbird on those magazines. The 1960 Thunderbird was not suitable for Hot Rod but it was the only American car I could buy and I had no choice but making Hot Rod out of this car.

Then one day, I finally found Thunderbird on magazine, It was a picture of same style Thunderbird but a 1959 model on readers column of Hot Rod Magazine 1975 May issue. The picture was a small black & white one but that was enough to make me purchase this magazine. After while when I was looking at magazine, below the picture of Thunderbird I found picture of two Hot Rods with two Japanese names Chico Kodama, Koichi Kurosawa. I had no idea who they were then and just thought that it was amazing to be on magazine. Oh! Japanese!! But when my friend sent this picture a year later, I was amazed to find the same two cars from the magazine. How can this be possible? I was so amazed.

There was some strange co incidence but this magazine was the key for me, I went to California in 1977 and visited my friend to purchase parts for Thunderbird and met Chico and Oyabun through him and this magazine lead me to go to California in 1978. This Hot Rod Magazine went to California with me in 1978, spent Three and a half years and returned to Japan from USA with me. I don’t know why but I took all my American Hot Rods Magazine purchased in Japan to USA(I only had few back then, though). Why was that?

先週のカーショー

先週末の59th Annual Grand National Roadster ShowのMost Beautiful Roadster Award 受賞車はこの車でした。



難しい世界です。選ぶ方も大変ですが、選ばれる方は「今回選ばれなければ来年また」って訳には行きませんからもっと大変です。

さて、"MOONEYES Special" 32 Deuce Bonneville RacerはCompetition カテゴリーで1等賞を受賞しました。こいつは凄い！


そしてこんなに凄いBelair、


Nova、


そしてCamaroもありました。


もちろん、Kustom Kultureの伝道師 NASHも取材中でした。


どんどんエスカレートするUSAとは対照的に、JAPANはどんどん冷えていっちゃう感じですね。ショー会場では出展車のタイヤに注目！タイヤが汚れるのが嫌なのか、じゅうたんを汚すのが嫌なのか？目的はどっちでしょう。USAは景気がいいのでしょうか？


おっと、もしChicoがBonnevilleでStartを待っている時ならこんな感じ、


そしてもし200マイルを出してしまったらこんな感じ、とシミュレーションだけはしてみました。


The Most Beautiful Roadster Award went to this car at 59th Annual Grand National Roadster Show on last weekend.

Its difficult world. Choosing is difficult but to be chosen is even more hard as they cant just come again next year. Now the "MOONEYES Special" 32 Deuce Bonneville Racer has received 1st place award in competition category. That's definitely some hard job accomplished by.

Plus there were excellent cars like these Belair, Nova, and Camaro were there. Of course the Kustom Kulture missionary NASH was at the show to cover the scene. The USA seem to heat up further more while Japan seem to be cooling down more. Attention to the tires in show space! Don't want to ruin the tire? or the carpet? Which one is the objective. Is economy in America doing good?

Oh, if Chico went to Bonneville and waits for the start, it will be like this. Then if he went more than 200miles, it will be like this. Did the simulation just in case.

まだ先が見えないModified Roadster

どうですか？画像を見る限り「今年こそBonnevilleを走るんだ」っていう本気が見えてきませんか？ここ2週間でちょっと進んだようです。



今「雨のロスアンジェルス」というDVDを観ながらブログを書いています。邦題は「雨のロスアンジェルス」ですが、原題は「Aloha Bobby and Rose」、主人公のGirlが「Take me to Hawaii」なんですが、雨のLAなんです。雨のLA、雨のLAはカッコイイですね。昔は好きでしたが最近のLAは雨が降りすぎます。先週末はPomonaで59回目になるGrand National Roadster Showは開催されていましたが、ズーッと雨でした。雨季には違いないのですが本当によく降ります。

昔、USA車の多くはドラムブレーキで、カックンブレーキと呼ばれるほどカックンと効き、特に雨の日はカックンって効いてスピン、あっちこっちで車が大破していましたが、最近は車の性能も良くなっているので昔程事故は見なくなりました（ブレーキが良く効く？ハンドリングもいい？）。それでも雨だっていうのにスピードが速すぎます！この映画は1974年当時らしいですが、今でも思い出深いのは'69 Camaro RSで走った雨のLAです。主人公のポール・ラマット（American Graffitｙのジョンミルナー役）が'68 CamaroでLAを走るシーンは最高、昔は街に出ればこうだった、車と街の電飾がマッチしていたんですね。30代後半の人達が横浜山下公園のクルーズを忘れられないのと一緒ですね。そのポール・ラマット、先週末のショーでサイン会をやっていました。おっと、Modified Roadsterの話がそれてしまいましたが、時間との戦いには間違いありませんね。Tim次第かもね。

話は飛びますが、ショーには沢山の日本人がエントリーしていました。イクラさんはコルベット、Wheels Unlimitedの桜木さんはChevy 3100、バイクでは名古屋のKen's Factory、何か賞を受賞したようでした。また京都のHamans Chop Shopも賞を受賞したようでした。「受賞したようでした」と確かでないのはブースの撤収で忙しかったので「ようです」なんです。Cole FosterのMOON RocketはMild Custom部門で一等賞だったようです！

How about this, doesn't picture show seriousness on "Must make it to Bonneville this year". The work progressed in last 2 weeks.

Now writing Blog as watching DVD with Japanese title "Rain in Los Angels" the English title is "Aloha Bobby and Rose" the heroine of a movie wish to "take me to Hawaii" but its raining in LA. LA looks cool in rain, used to like it but now its raining too much. The 59th Grand National Roadster Show was hosted on last week end at Pomona and it was raining on all hosting days. Even though its rain season, its too much rain for California.

Still think driving speed is too fast, and even on raining day too. This movie was filmed in 1974. I remember well about driving my 1969 Camaro RS in rain. The scene when hero Paul LaMat ( Actor played roll of John Milner in American Graffiti ) drove 1968 Camaro in LA was great. It was like that back than, car was matching with city light and decoration. Its like how people in the late thirties cant forget about cruise night in Yamashita Park in Yokohama, Japan. That Paul LaMat was signing autograph in last week ends show. Oh topic has warped from the Modified Roadster but sure it will be the race against time. It's up to Tim.

The topic changes again to the show and there were many entries from Japan. Mr. Ikura with Corvette, Mr. Sakuragi of "Wheels Unlimited" with Chevy 3100. For Motorcycle, Ken's Factory from Nagoya seem to received award, "Hamans Chop Shop" from Kyoto also seem to received award too. The reason for unsure "seems" was because I was too busy packing up to withdraw shop and missed the scene. The MOON Rocket build by Cole Foster seem to receive 1st prize award in Mild Custom Class!

ケツに火がついた？！

Machine Shopを覗くとChicoとTimがRoadsterを囲んで何かやっていました。



遂に動き出したようだけど8月のBonnvilleに間に合うのか、おっとその前にテストランするから5月のElmirageまでに完成させないといけない、となると5ヶ月ではかなり苦しい。気の良いTimも手を貸してくれているけど、本当に間に合うのでしょうか？



何しろ去年の7月以来、何も進行していない状況だったので、この失われた5ヶ月は大きいです。クルマが完成して終わりではありません。まだエンジンも造らなくていけないのです。いずれにしても　やっとケツに火がついたって感じですが、少々遅かったかな？



そしてガソリンはもう1ガロン＝4ドルになろうとしています。

Finally got started.
Chico and Tim were standing by Land Speed Record Roadster and doing something When I looked at Machine Shop. Finally started to work on it but would it be finished by this August Bonneville or before Elmirage in May for Test run, five months is very tight, good man Tim is giving helping hands but will it be finished in time? As it didn't have progress from last July and lost of five months is very big. Finishing car will not be all. Still have to work to make an motor too. Anyway finally got started but may be a little late? Hope, they can make it by then. Cross fingers!
And gas price is about to hit the four dollar per gallon price range pretty soon, I guess.

2007年MOONEYES USA Xmas Party

今年のMOONEYES USA Xmas Partyは奇跡でした。まさにミラクル！です。

日本で聞いた当日の天気予報は雨、しかもよりによってストームが来ているという。最悪な話、「南カリフォルニアだぜ、そんな事ある訳無い」なんて否定していましたが、実際木曜日から怪しい雲行きとなり始め、金曜日は降ったりやんだりの何とも嫌なムード。しかも強烈に寒い！ショー会場での準備もまともに出来ない状態でした。

夜は夜で雨が本格的に降りだし、「明日は絶対に雨だ～」って感じ。イベントの前日に雨が降り、明日を思う脱力感。日本ではしょっちゅうですが、ここ南カリフォルニア、晴れて当たり前の土地でその気分を味わうのは何とも憂鬱です。

朝3時に起きて外を見ると道路はWet、「Oh, man!」。会場へ向かう車の中は何となく重たい空気が流れていましたが、Racewayに近づくに従い空は明るくなり、星も見えてきました。「ひょっとすると今日は化けるかも」という期待が膨らみ始め、実際、そうなりました！何と快晴です！ミラクル！風は冷たかったけど、最高の天気になったのです。

Live Music、Pinstripe、Pinup Girls Contest、Choppers & Bobbers、Hot Rods、Customs and Drag Raceが一度に楽しめるイベント、MOONEYES USA Xmas PartyはSouthern CaliforniaのカルチャーがすべてIrwindale Racewayに集まり、まさに南Californiaです。これにSurfin'が加わればまさに1960sのSouthern Californiaがそこにあります。

Blue Sky、Palm Tree、Hot Rods and MOONEYES、南カリフォルニアです。天気が影響して出だしは遅かったですが、素晴らしい一日になりました。横浜のショーで会った人達に会えたのも大変嬉しかったです。詳しくは来週、MOONEYES Mail Magazine 特集ページでお送りします。Thanks Dean MOON！来年もIrwindaleで会いましょう！

日曜日、山は雪になっていました

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party 2007
This year's MOONEYES USA Xmas Party was like a miracle. In fact it was a real miracle.

The weather forecast said rain on show day, plus the storm was coming too. It was the worst story, "It's Southern California, That can't be true." So we denied but the weather was really going down fall from Thursday and Friday was worst with on and off rain, plus on top of that it was really cold. Couldn't even do good set up at show space.

On the previous night it rained on hard, "looks like its going to rain tomorrow", rain on previous day of event looses all our up tension for next day. That happens in Japan often but not in Southern California where weather is expected to be fine and sunny, it makes me depressed.

At 3am in the morning, I looked out side, the road was wet, "Oh, Man!" It was heavy atmosphere on the way to the show, but as getting closer to the raceway the sky was getting clear and even stars appeared. "May be weather will turn around today." So our expectation grew, and really it turned out to be like that. It was clear sky, like a miracle, The wind was cold but the weather was great.

MOONEYES USA Xmas Party is really event of Southern California, with all Southern California Culture, at Southern California Irwindale Raceway. If " Surfin" is added it will be Southern California of 1960's. Blue Sky, Palm Tree, Hot Rods and MOONEYES, its all Southern California.

The weather had effect on slow start but it turned out to be a great day. It's nice to see all people we saw at YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show. Will have more on next week's MOONEYES Mail Magazine special page. Thanks Dean MOON!

Dragster

久しぶりにDragsterのEngineが掛かりました。 2005年4月以来ですから、実に2年半近くご無沙汰していましたが、いつ聞いてもいい音です。今はガソリンを使っていますが、近い将来はアルコールに変更します。今まで踏んでいるだけで足がグラグラするくらい重たかったクラッチも、今回軽いものに変更したのでかなり楽になりそうで。あとNHRAの検査をPassすればReady to Runです。



Dragster
It has been a while but MOONEYES Dragster Engine was fired up.
Last time was April 2005, so its about two and half years since last heard this engine but its always nice to hear this one. Now its running on gasoline but will change to alcohol soon. Clutch used to be so heavy that leg shook while just stepping on it but now its changed to lighter one so its very easy now. Whenever we pass the NHRA inspection, it will be Ready to Run.

Chevy Nova

こんな感じで完成した1972年Nova、502/502 Crate Motor、MOON Racing Cam（Roller Camですよ）にRoller Rocker、OffeyのTunnel Ramインテーク、725cfmキャブが2個。この時代に2個です。なんて非常識なんでしょうか！



おおよそ600HPはTH400 ATトランスミッションに3,000rpm Stall Converter、アルミ製Drive Shaft、そしてCurrie製Ford 9" with 4.10 to 1 and Positractionで何時でもバーンナウトが可能です。あとロールケージとシフター、その他少々をやれば4月の仙台で走れるかもしれません。Wildmanに色々と描いてもらい、雰囲気最高のHot Rodが完成です。

Chevy Nova
The 1972 Nova, 502/502 Crate Motor, MOON Racing Cam, Offey Tunnel Ram Intake, Double Quad 725cfm caｒbs, double caｒbs in this high gas time. How unreasonable. Estimated 600HP runs through TH400 AT Transmission with 3,000rpm stall converter, Aluminum drive shaft and Currie Ford 9" with 4.10 to 1 and Positration which makes Burnout possible at any time. Now if Rollcage, shifter, and if other little things are done, may be able to run Drag Race soon. Wildman Ishii draw many things and one great looking Hot Rod is completed.

Project 遂に完成

遂に完成です。

明日、パシフィコ横浜で開催される第16回 YOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Show 2007で、思い出のOCIR (Orange County International Raceway）ブ-スを製作し、この車を展示予定です。

それでは　明日会場でお会いしましょう！



Finally It is completed!

Tomorrow at Pacifico Yokohama, the reminiscence of OCIR(Orange County International Raceway) booth will be made because OCIR was my heart and displayed at The 16th Annual YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007! OCIR, it was everything there.

MOONEYESのChoppers

以前、Tankのブログで大型二輪免許証取得とありましたが、4名が教習所に通い、3名が大型を取得し、1名が奮闘中です。その3名もそれぞれバイクを購入し、乗り廻すようになって来ました。



広告のManager、MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editorであり、カタログ等を作っているTankこと大津君は、Brat Styleに依頼していたSR Chopperが先週末完成しました。



営業のManagerのMapこと松浦君も、Bullのヨネ君を手こずらせながらも1969年のTriumph Chopperを手に入れました。70s丸出しのChopperです。彼はこのバイクで相模大野から、いつでも渋滞している16号・保土ヶ谷バイパスで通勤するつもりのようです。今までは車通勤でしたから何とか遅刻しても たどり着けましたが、このChopperでは途中で故障の為「欠勤」なんて事もありそうです。今後の彼の社会人人生を左右する一台になるかもしれません。



仕入れ関係のManagerのOチャン角谷君は、Deluxieから1947年Triumphを購入。先日はお台場で開催されたトラックマスターズに参加したのですが、帰り道飛ばしすぎてバイクの調子が悪くなったようです。

さて、最後にいまだ免許取得に奮闘中の松井君は事故で潰れたHot Rodを直すか、Harleyを購入するか、どっちか一つにしないと厳しい現実になるかもしれません。

と言う事で、この3台、週末のショーに展示します。

最後にリアルバイカーのMasaとHiro佐藤は毎日バイクで通っています。これからは寒いので、暖かくなったら本牧山頂公園へツーリングです。



さて、進行中のPorjectはMax君に依頼していたScoopの延長も完成し、Currie製Ford 9インチデフに4.10を組み、Tractionbarも装着しました。



Previously "Tank" has mentioned in his blog that He was getting his driver license for unlimited size motorcycle but 4 of employee went to the Driving School and three achieved license and one is still taking class. That Three bought bike and started to ride around.

MOON Space Agency(Advertisement) manager, MOONEYES Mail Magazine Editor and Catalog Producer, Ohtsu who is called "TANK" has received his custom buit Yamaha SR 400 Chopper from Brat Style last week. As might have expected Brat Style made it with beautiful finish.

The Sales Manager "MAP" Matsuura managed to have 1969 650cc Triumph Chopper with much favor from Yone from Bull Original. It's very 70s Choppers. He thinks he can use as commuter from Sagamiono through major traffic jam of route 16 and Hodogaya Bypass. He has been commuting with car so he was able to reach even though he was late but with this Chopper he may not be able to reach to office as it may break down in some where. This may be the one bike that makes change to his career.

The purchasing Manager "O-chan", Sumiya has bout 1947 Triumph from Deluxie Customs. He went to Truck Masters last weekend at Odaiba in Tokyo by highway, too much speeding on way back and its running rough now.

Then lastly Matsui who used to be called "Kid Rocker" is still going to class and has to decide if he will fix his Hot Rod or buy Harley, must to choose one to afford.

So these three bikes will be on display at Show on this weekend.

And REAL biker MASA and HIRO SATO are commuting with motorcycle everyday.

Now its getting cold so when it gets warm we will go for ridding to Honmoku Sanchou Park, it's few miles away from us.

So the project in progress has completed scoop extension by Max-kun and Currie Ford 9 inch rear end with 4.10, traction bars and sub frame connector are added too.

ショーまで一週間！

遂にShow CarとShow Bikeの引き上げも無事に終わり倉庫で保管中です。こうしてクルマやバイクが到着すると緊張してきます。



そう言えば、DicE Magazineは会場でこの記念Tシャツを販売するそうです。若者には似合いそうなカラーですが、僕はもう少し待てば嫌でも誰かがこのカラーのシャツ等をくれるでしょうから、それまで待つことにします。



MOONEYESで進行中の企画も着々と進行中ですが、何とキャブレターがスクープの中に納まりきらず、Max君に急遽、スクープの延長をお願いした所です。

ショーまであと1週間！

Finally the Show Car and Show Bike has been pulled out safely and Kept in our ware house. Arrival of the show cars and bikes makes me nervous.

By the way the DicE Magazine will be selling this T-shirts at Show. This color looks good on young people, I might get some from some people in couple days so I will wait and see.

MOONEYES hosting plan is coming along too. But carburetor hit the scoop on hood and had asked Max-kun to extend the scoop.

ショーまであと11日

16回目のヨコハマ ホット ロッド・カスタム ショーまで後11日、あまり時間ありませんね。今日のMeetingで詳細が決定しGO！です。Long Beachからのコンテナも無事横浜港に到着し、MOONEYES USAで製作を続けてきたクルマも無事に到着です。細かいところはこれから仕上げることになりそうです。



11days left to the 16th YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show, not much time left. The details are finalized in Today's meeting and ready to go. Container has landed safely from Long Beach to Yokohama port. The car build at MOONEYES USA has safely arrived too. The details will be taken care from now.

2007年 SEMA Show 速報

Las Vegas SEMA Showに来ています。初日と2日目はブースに立ち寄ってくれる方々も多いのでブースに居た為、会場は殆ど廻れませんでした。そんな状況でしたので　ブース周辺のMuscle Car、Pro Touring仕様を紹介します。



新型Mustangが人気あるからか、古いマスタング、それも67・68年が結構目だっていました。Torinoが何とも言えなくカッコ良かったです。

Came to see the Las Vegas SEMA Show. First day and 2nd day I had many people visiting our booth and couldn't go around the show. So let me introduce the near by booth with Muscle Car and Pro Touring style. May be because New Mustang is popular, Old ones were popular too especially '67 and '68. Torino was looking really good too.

YOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Show 2007

遂にYOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Show 2007(HCS)まで1ヶ月、カリフォルニア Long Beachの倉庫には日本に送るべくクルマやバイクが集まりつつあります。

一つ残念なのは、Trevelenが製作したIndian Crazy Horseが来れない可能性が高くなってきました。最後まで交渉を続けていますが、ここ2-3日で解決出来ないとShipmentをミスしてしまいます。諦めず交渉を続けるつもりです。

YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007 Information.
Finally its one month until YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007(HCS). In ware house in Long Beach, California, the bikes and cars are gathering to be shipped to Japan for the show. One thing that I am disappointed with is that "Crazy Horse" Indian build by Trevelen may not make it to the show. We will negotiate until last day but if we don't have it solved with in these 2-3days it will miss the shipment. We are not giving up yet and will continue to negotiate.

On the Cruisin' Magazine Issue #51 released on Oct 26th, the special issue introduce people coming to the show and guest invited to the HCS. [US Trip Report]

ハワイで見たBMW B7とM6っていう車とUSA車達

ハワイ島ヒロでDrag Raceが開催されると言うので、地図を頼りに行ってみたらClosed。


どうしたものかと'55 Chevyが置いてあるShopを尋ねたら、今日はナイトレースだと言う。


なるほど、昼の2時頃にノコノコ行く奴が悪いと反省。しかも今晩はHONDA等のImportが中心との事。そのShopの息子もこのHONDAで10秒台で走ると言う。


Shopの中を見せてもらうとV-8が載ったDatsun 620やVW Buggy、


表には'68 Nova、Big IslandでもNovaだ、

そしてこのPick Up。

向かって右がショップオーナーのJames氏、左は友人のKalani氏。



Shop オーナーのJames氏所有の'55 Chevyには何とオールド MOON タコメーターが付いていた！このタコメーターを探すのは結構大変。たまに売りが出るが結構いい値段がするので腰が引けてしまい、いまだに持っていない。10年以上も買わずにいれば物はどんどん無くなるし、値段もどんどん高くなるからますます買い難くなる。困った。何時は買わなければいけない事は分かっているけど。買えない。

それはそれとして、Big IslandにはまだDrag StripがあるのでDrag Raceファンにはありがたい。でも凄いところでした。産廃処理場の中を抜け、延々と木々の生い茂る中を走るとレース場がある。街灯も何もないからナイトレースなんて気味悪くて、とても一人では行けそうも無い感じでした。ヒロは雨が多いらしい。この日も彼らは口を揃えて「雨が降らなければね」って言っていた。何か仙台みたい。11月11日(日）のPRA仙台も雨でなければいいですが・・・。

彼らは来週SEMAショーに来ると言うので「MOONEYESブースで会おう」と再開を約束してヒロを後にし、翌日はホノルルで友人のTadと会い、彼の友人のDexter氏の倉庫に行き自慢の車を見せてもらった。自慢の車は倉庫に行く為の車もそうで、何でもAlpina製のBMW B7という世界に68台しかないって車。

BMWでSuper Chargerが付いた車はこれだけっていうBMW、すべてがハンドクラフトって言うからビックリ！椅子に開いている小さな穴からエアコンの冷風が出てくるって何とも凄い凄い車。BMW B7についてWildmanに聞いてみると「アルピナのフラッグシップで7シリーズにスーパーチャージャーを付けたモデルで、日本ではマンション並みの￥3,000万クラスのクルマです・・・まさかハワイにこんな高いモデルがあるとは思いませんでした。」

この2台どちらもDrag Race Carだったけど、オアフ島のDrag Race場が閉鎖されたのでストリート用に仕様を変更したとの事。この様なレースカーかどうか分からないストリート仕様がオアフ島では最近増えているとの事でした。そんなことに関心していると、'67 Chevelleの2ドアポストセダンを持っていると言う。「2ドアポスト！見た事無い！どうしても見たい！」と思っていたら、どうしても見せたいから自宅に行こうと例のBMW B7で連れて行ってもらったら、またBMWのM6という、これも希少車らしい奥様の車を見せてくれ、ウーン。

またWildmanに聞いてみたら「このクルマはBMW M6というBMWのスポーツタイプの最強バージョンです。V10の5リッターエンジンはF1直系で506hpの化け物です。日本では￥1,500万以上の価格で、そうそう買う人はいないクルマです。」だって！驚き！Dexter氏は速い車が好きだって言っていたので納得です。

これは今まで見たことありません。ハードトップより全然スタイリッシュなのでビックリ！彼が言うには'67 Chevelle Post 2dr Sedan "SS."は6台しか作らなかった！との事です。結構ハワイには色々なクルマがガレージにしまわれている様。これらを引っ張り出し、カーショーを開催したら楽しいよ、ってTadをそそのかしながらその場を後にしました。



夜も遅くなり、友人のJasonとフィアンセのTracyが彼の1951年Chevyで迎えに来てくれ、窓をロールダウンしたOld Chevyで深夜のホノルル ダウンタウンをクルーズ、何とも気持ちの良い時間でした。




Down Townでビールを一杯？、彼らと久しぶりに会うDon Ed Hardy氏と飲んだのです。


Jasonは11月末に東京で個展を開くそうです。Ed Hardyさんは僕は全く知らずに今まで付き合っていましたが、何でも日本で有名な「Ed Hardy」というTシャツブランドのデザイナーとの事、後で聞いてビックリしました。その彼が日本人ピンストライパーの本を制作、およびその監修等をやっており、近日中に出版するとの事、勿論Wildmanも登場します。また、5月にSanta Monicaで個展を開催されるとの事でした。

今回、数日間ホノルルに滞在できましたが、Old USA車が結構走っているのを見かけました。今までそれほど街でOld USA車を見かけた事はありませんでしたが、今回は走っていました。Old USA車、ホノルルでも気になる感じです。ホノルルは結構古い建物や町並みが多いのでOld USA車が似合います。



いい感じです。


Hertzへレンタカーをリターンに行ったらちょうど港から引き上げてきた新車のShelby マスタング 350Hが2台。一日250ドル？買うこと考えたら安い。

BMW B7, M6 and Old American Cars in Hawaii
I went with map in hand to see the Drag Strip in Big Island, Hilo but it was closed, so I asked the shop near by with '55 Chevy and they told me it was held in night, Very understandable and realized it was my fault to go on 2pm. Plus tonight Race was mainly for import like Hondas, a son of the shop was going to the Race with this Honda which runs in about 10 seconds, that's fast. They showed me inside shop and there was a Datsun 620 with V8, VW Buggy, '68 Nova, Nova! in Big island too, '68 Camaro and this Pick Up. The shop owners own '55 Chevy had this old MOON tachometer. This tachometer is really hard to find one, its rare and high price when it is out for sale so I set back and still don't have one, I haven't had chance to buy for 20 years and it gets more harder to find and price is getting more higher and Not easy to buy. Its difficult, I know I have to buy sometime but I can't buy.

Anyway the Big Island still has Drag Strip so its appreciated by Drag Racers and funs. But it was extraordinary place. Through industrial waste facility through the woods the Drag Strip appears. There are no lights between and night race may be too scarily To go to. It rains a lot in Hilo. That day they were all saying "If it doesn't rain" which is much like in "Sendai" Drag strip in Japan. They were coming to SEMA show next week so we made promise to see them again at "MOONEYES" booth in SEMA and left there.

Next day I went to see friend Tad in Honolulu, went to his friends warehouse to see his cars which he is proud of. The car he drove to see was also his proud car, it was BMW B7 which only 68 of them are in whole world, the only BMW equipped with "supercharger" and amazing to hear that it is all hand build, the pin holes in seat fabrics are there to have cool air conditioned air to flow out from seat. Asked Wildman about the BMW B7, "Alpina brands Flagship model , 7 series equipped with Supercharger and car is about USD 260,000 equivalent to buying average condominium apartment in Japan. Didn't think there was such a high end model in Hawaii." At the warehouse we reached on this very precious car was his latest project Willis, others were Anglia, Willis Pick Up, which were both X-Drag Race Car but as Drag Strip in Oahu island was closed, they were made in to street machine, the street machine which may have been a race cars are increasing in Oahu Island according to them.

While impressed with such things, he mentioned he has '67 Chevelle 2 door post. "The 2 door Post?!" haven't seen one before and really want to see that and so did, he wanted to show that and went to his home in BMW B7 and there was another BMW M6! in home, this one is rare too and it was his wife's. Again asked Wildman and said "This car is BMW M6 and is the top end Of BMW Sports type. V10, 5.0 liter engine is straight out from Formula 1 technology and has 506hp. It is priced more than USD 130,000 in Japan and really not many people can afford it." Wow that's amazing. Now I Understand how Mr. Dexter was saying he likes fast cars.

Then he showed me the post Chevelle, I haven't seen this one before. Its far more stylish than a hard top, which was really surprise to me. According to him there were only 6 of '67 Chevelle Post 2dr Sedan "SS."made. There are various cars hidden in garage in Hawaii and I suggested Tad that may be good idea to host a car show to bring out hidden cars in this island.

As it get late in night friend Jason and his fiance Tracy came to pick me up in his '51 Chevy and cruised with window rolled down in downtown Honolulu and spent wonderful time. Had one beer in downtown with his friend Don Ed Hardy. Jason will be hosting his own gallery in Tokyo on end of November, and Mr. Ed Hardy was famous T-shits brand "Ed Hardy"'s designer which I didn't know and surprised when I was told that from friend next day.

He was making book on Japanese pinstripers and we talked that we would help on editorial. Also he will have his own gallery in Santa Monica in May 2008 which we will help what we can do and it was very fruit full night in Honolulu. This time I went to Honolulu for couple days and saw many Old American Cars. I haven't seen that many old American cars before but I saw many times just on today. Old American cars in Honolulu its interesting. Honolulu has many old buildings so it looks good with old American cars. That's Cool.

NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion - CHRR Funny Car編

このCHRRではここ数年、往年のFunny Carを見ることが多くなりました。East Coastでは数年前からOld Funny Carだけのレースもありましたが、West Coastではあまり盛んではありませんでした。

しかし今回のCHRRでは何と24台のFunny Carが走るというではありませんか。昔、'64 Funny Carsというイベントがあった事は以前にもお話をしたと思いますが、24台でも昔のFunny Carが見れれば幸せですね。勿論すべてナイトロFunny Carです。昔のスペックで走っているのか、スピードも昔のように6秒台なので、僕にとっては写真を撮りやすいスピードです。チャンレンジャー、サテライトやチャージャーは70年代後半の僕の時代ではもう滅多に見れなったので、まじまじ見れるのは最高です。

昔のFunny Carは前が短いのがカッコイイのですが、車によっては長く伸びてしまったのもあり、バランスが？のFunny Carもありました。今はガソリンタンクなどがフロントタイヤの前についたシャーシが多いからでしょうか？

そんな中、昔ながらのバランスのFunny Carは本当にカッコイイです。昔、Hot Rod Magazineを見て憧れ、本物を初めて見た時、ヘッドライトやグリルがすべてエアーブラシで描かれていたのに凄く衝撃を受けたのを覚えています。この時代のFunny Carに一度乗ってみたいものです。

NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion - CHRR #2 Funny Cars
In recent years of CHRR, more old Funny Cars of all times are seen. At East Coast there are race for old Funny Car for more than 3 years but It wasn't that popular in West Coast.

But now in this CHRR they say there are 24 Funny Cars that will run. I have mentioned about '64 Funny Cars in one race before but it is really lucky to be able to see 24 Funny cars. Of course they are all "AA" Nitro Funny cars. I like to called "AA" double A. They may be running in old spec and speed is like in old days at 6 seconds so its good speed to take picture for me. 4 seconds car, no chance for me. Challenger, Satelite, Charger were already rare to see in my time at last half of 70s and its great to be able to take a good look at them.

The old Funny Cars look good as they are shorter in front but some looked too stretched out and looked Funny? May be because many frames have gas tanks in front of front tire now and its longer.

Among them the Old style Funny Car with Old Balance looks really good. Back then when I admire the funny cars on Hot Rod Magazine and I remember how I was shocked to see the Head lights and Grills were all air brushed on the real Funny Cars. I like to try driving one of those Funny Cars of these years.

NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion - CHRR

今、一番面白いイベントはこのCHRRだと思います。2番目はMOONEYES USA Xmas Partyです。
このイベントは回を重ねる事に古いRace Carが増えてきます。どこから探してくるのか分かりませんが、良く見つけてくるもんですね。そしてGasserスタイルはどんどん増えています。



その中でもMOON Decalをヘッドライトに貼った'57 Chevyは何と、オーストラリアから皆で資金を出し合い、このイベントにやって来たそうです。クルーもレッドジャケットにMOONパッチを貼り、いい雰囲気でした。



昨年のHOT ROD・Custom ShowにやってきたChevy IIも、ご覧のように力強い走りを見せてくれました。結構、皆本気でした。

I think current Most interesting event is this CHHR. The second one is MOONEYES USA Xmas Party.
In this show, Old Race cars are increasing every time this show is hosted. I don't know how but they find these old Race cars from some where. And Gasser style is increasing too.

Among them the '57 Chevy with MOON Decal on head light has joined this event from Australia by sharing the cost between them. Crew looked good with MOON patch on red Jackets.

The Chevy II which joined last year's YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show was there too, showing strong run. Everyone was very serious.

モーニング クルーズ

毎週土曜日の朝早く、Huntington Beach近くでMorning Cruiseが開催されています。このクルーズは本当に朝早くて驚きます。朝7時半に行ってもう帰る車があり、そして8時頃には半分くらいは帰ってしまいます。そんな時間帯ですから圧倒的に年齢層は高いですが、中には早起きが苦手なヤングも結構参加しています。朝早く始まる分、一日が有効に使えるので旅行中、車も見たいなって方には最適なクルーズです。場所はOrange County, City of Huntington Beachかな？道はMagnolia とAdamsの交差点です。



"Morning Cruise"
Every Saturday in early morning, Morning Cruise is hosted near Huntington Beach. This Cruise is really amazing for how early it starts. Some cars go home after 7:30am and half of them are gone by 8 o'clock. The attendants are usually seniors with that kind of hours but young ones are hanging in there too. As it starts early, it is good if you want to look at cars while you are on Vacation. you can still use rest of the day. Its on between Magnolia and Adams.

10月4日(木)のMOONEYES USA

10月4日(木)、MOONEYES USAに着いてみるとFred LarsenのWife、Marylouが居るではありませんか。何をしてるのかと思ったら彼女の車にWildmanがサインを入れていたのです。と言うよりWildmanが来る情報を得て、彼女が尋ねて来たと言うほうが正解かもしれません。Good to see you, Marylou、です。



Machine ShopではChevy Novaのリアエンドを交換作業中でした。こうした作業風景って何とも70年代の南カリフォルニアを感じますね。



来週末、Bakersfieldで開催される"NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion"に展示するため急ピッチで仕上げられたのです。MOON Fuel Tankはフルポリッシュだし、クロームを新たに掛けなおしたり、勿論シャーシーは新品ですし、今まで以上に綺麗なDragsterとなりました。



まだカウルにEyeballなどのサインが描かれていないのでWildmanが最後に仕上げをして完成です。



MOONEYES Dragsterの写真を撮っていると、Novaのリアタイヤハウスに誰かがいます。なんとYoshi君が作業を手伝ってくれていました。



終わり際にDean MOON Jr.も出社してきて全員集合のMOONEYESでした。



On Thursday, October 4th when I got to MOONEYES USA, Fred Larsen's wife Marylou was there, I was wondering why she was there and Wildman was drawing signs on her car. To be accurate Marylou knew Wildman was coming so she came here. Good to see you Marylou!

At Machine shop 1972 Chevy Nova had rear end changed to Ford 9" with 4.10 and Posi. Even these work scene looks 70s' Southern California.

And at Garage after 2.5 year from the crash on April 2005, MOONEYES Dragster was displayed to show it was completed. It was made in great rush to attend next weekend NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield, Ca. MOON Fuel Tank is fully polished and New chromes are applied and frame is new too, looks like we have it cleaned better than before. The Eyeball signs are not on Body Panel so when Wildman completes signs, it will be completed.

While taking picture of MOONEYES Dragster, there is some one at the rear quarter of Nova, it is Yoshi helping them out. Dean Moon Jr. came to work at last minute, MOONEYES USA had everyone in house.

トヨタ博物館

Max君の広場を見た後、トヨタ博物館にも行ってきました。

トヨタ博物館というとトヨタ車しか展示していないように思いますが、さすがトヨタの博物館です。トヨタ車は勿論、外車もあればライバルの日本車もしっかり展示してあって、内容が濃いです。2Fは外車が中心ですが、3Fは日本車中心。1936年 トヨタAB型フェートンから始まり、1943年 AC型乗用車、1938年 日産70型フェートンも展示されていました。



戦後に入り、どことなく北欧の香りがしないでもない1953年 トヨペットスーパーRHN型、


クラウンの初期モデルの1995年 トヨペットクラウンRS型、RSD型、


そしてタクシー向けに作られたトヨペットマスターRR型、


コロナの初期モデル 1957年 トヨペットコロナ ST10とか、


1958年 北米に初めて輸出されたトヨペットクラウンRS-L型。USAのマーケットではパワー不足が露見し一時輸出を断念せざる得なかったという今では考えられない話ですが、これはその当時に輸出された車だそうです。


今年、アメリカトヨタは50周年。友人がこんな貴重な記念Bookをくれました。


KIKKOMANも50周年という事で記念Soy Sauceを販売しています。


僕の一番すきなクラウンは通称 "涙テール"と呼ばれる1962年型RS41。


クラウンエイトがないのがちょっと寂しいですが、その後継車のセンチュリー。そしてそのセンチュリーに搭載されていたのがこのHemi Head V-8。USAでもこのHemiは一部マニアに人気があり、このMotorを使ってStreet Rodを製作している人もいるくらいです。Hemiというだけで価値が違うのです。


「フルチョイスカー」という触込みで発売された通称 ワンテールの初期型セリカや、有名な2000GT。空冷エンジンを積んだToyota Sports 800。


何よりも嬉しいのは1970年代、Cam Am出場を前提に造られたというTurbo無しとTurbo付きのTOYOTA 7が展示されている事です。


最高にカッコいいです。最近になってやっと日本でも、昔のレースカー等を走れる状態でレストアする事が盛んになってきましたが、あまりにも時間が経ちすぎているので、無くなってしまったレースカーは沢山あると思います。HINO SamuraiもCaliforniaのどこかに眠っているという話ですし、往年のレースカーが復活するのは嬉しい事です。日本も心にゆとりが出てきたという事でしょうか。


隣のビルに行くと今度は生活に密着した商業車が展示されています。商業車はその性質上、使い終われば廃車されてしまうのが殆どですが、デザインは乗用車以上に奇抜な車が多いと思います。この1956年 マスターラインバンや、


1953年 SG トラック、


1959年トヨエースと消防車、


1950年製の薪を焚いて走る「薪トラック」とか、奇抜ですよね。


最後に、戦前 フォードは横浜で、シボレーは大阪で車を生産していたのはご存知でしたか？フォードは1925年創業開始、これは1929年に横浜工場で造られたモデルAです。


シボレーは1927年に大阪で始まり、このフェートンは1931年製です。


勿論右ハンドル、MOONEYESにも横浜工場製の1934年 Ford Phaetonがありました。


今年のヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタム ショー 2007には横浜工場製の1932年Ford "Deuce" Pick Upが展示される予定です。Toyota博物館はこの他にライブラリーもあり、車関係の貴重な資料や本やらが沢山あって、本当に凄いところでした。さすが世界のTOYOTAです。

"TOYOTA Museum"
After looking at MAX's yard, went to the TOYOTA Museum.

The TOYOTA Museum sounds like only TOYOTA cars are exhibited but that's TOYOTA there were great line up of imported cars and other domestic rival brand cars exhibited inside which really makes this Museum a valuable one. Second floor is mainly imported cars and Third floor is Japanese cars, starting from 1936 TOYOTA AB type Phaeton, 1943 TOYOTA AB type Sedan and 1938 NISSAN 70 style Phaeton was in line up too.

They were all pre war cars. After war period begun and with some what like Scandinavian taste 1953 TOYOPET SUPER RHN style, CROWN first model 1953 TOYOPET CROWN RS style, RSD style, TOYOPET MASTER RR style made for TAXI, CORONA first model 1957 TOYOPET CORONA ST10, 1958 first exported to USA TOYOPET CROWN RS-L style, not enough power was its problem in USA and decided to stop export, which is unbelievable for now but this car was the export model of that time. This year TOYOTA has 50th anniversary in USA and my friend gave me this anniversary book. KIKKOMAN has 50 years anniversary too and anniversary soy sauce are sold now.

My most favorite CROWN is so called "Tear Drop Tail Lamp" 1962 RS41, sad that CROWN eight was not there, but the later model CENTURY had this Hemi Head V-8, this Hemi is popular among the Hemi manias in USA and some people make Street Rod using this motor. HEMI makes different values.

"Full Choice Car" was the catch phrase when this "Single Tail Lamp" first model CELICA, famous 2000 GT, air cooled TOYOTA Sports 800, very please to see the 1970 TOYOTA 7 with Turbo and without Turbo tried to race on Cam Am Race in 1970s, but couldn't make it. Very cool. Now days even in Japan the old race cars are restored to run as they were, which is getting very popular but too many hours and times passed by so there are many race cars that were gone. 1967 HINO SAMURAI is said to be somewhere in California and great old days race cars return is really pleasing to see. May be Japan has some better business economy.

The building next one has life style oriented business and company used cars. Commercial vehicles are usually through away after use for 10years(depreciation) or so, but some designs are eccentric than passenger cars. This 1956 Master line Light Van(Wagon), 1953 SG Truck, 1959 TOYOACE, and fire station vehicle, 1950 fire wood selling car firewood truck, eccentric isn't it?

Lastly did you know Ford build cars in Japan before War in Yokohama and Chevrolet build cars in Osaka? Ford founded in 1925, this is 1929 Model A build in Yokohama factory. Chevrolet started in Osaka on 1927 and this Phaeton was made in 1931. Of course it was right hand drive, MOONEYES had 1934 YOKOHAMA build Ford Phaeton.

This year's YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2007, The 1932 YOKOHAMA build Ford "Deuce" Pick Up Will be exhibited at the show. TOYOTA Museum had library and other important information and sources and was really amazing place. That's World TOYOTA.

Max君の広場にVegaが

友人とレースカーの話をしながらお酒を飲む度に、Max君に「Veag、売ってくれない？」なんて酔っ払って電話をいれる事は二度三度の話ではなく、一度現物を見ない事には話も進まないのでMax君の広場にVegaを確認しに行きました。

何年か前に見た時のVegaはそんなに悪い状態では無かったので、雨ざらしとは聞いていましたがちょっと期待していたのです。グロリアに使っていたレースエンジンとトランスミッションはそのまま残っているので、何かいい車があればそれを載せてDrag Raceに出ようと友人と計画していたわけです。つまり僕がエンジン＆トランスミッション、友人が車を調達して2人でシェアしよう、そして「VegaはM夫君から借りて」という何とも勝手な思い付きだったのです。しかもMax君のVegaは初期型なのでVegaの中でもカッコがいい、価値有り物だと僕は思っていますし、すでにレース仕様ですからエンジン＆トランスミッションがあればすぐにでも走れる状態、「これはいい！」と勝手に友人と2人で話は盛り上がっていました。少なくとも現物を見る前までは、です。でもMax君のコレクション広場に到着し、その夢は簡単に崩れました。


憧れのVegaとの再会、でもビックリ！


この中途半端に入ったリアタイヤがGood！

タイヤの入り方とか、バランス良くVegaを作るのはなかなか難しいですが、その点はMax君のVegaは結構カッコイイのです。Frontが5穴になっているのが男らしいです。が、もう腐りがひどく、かなり軽量化されています。走ったらフロントガラスが錆ごと飛んでった！なんて事でも起きるのではないかという状態でした。おしい！カッコイイのに！早くレスキューしないと勿体ない！レスキュー911状態です！

残念ながら、エンジン＆ミッションがあるから後は車があれば何とかなる、なんて酔っ払いのたわごとは現物を見てもろくも崩れさりました。落ち着いてMax君の広場をよく見ると、どれも大変な状態になっています。Datsun 510は4台もありますし、縦グロも2台あったり、Datsun Z、Camaro、Chevy II S/S。なんとこのChevy II S/S、当時の正規輸入車、販売会社のプレートもエンジンルームに残り、PS、AC、AT、当時のフル装備のS/Sでした。これはまだ何とかレスキュー出来そうでした。倉庫の裏にはチャージャーがあったりでM夫君は凄いコレクターなんです。そんなMax君、このシビックだけはちゃんと屋根下保管になっていました。


510を4台持っているって言っても・・・。


このタテグロはまだ何とかなりそう。


Zは左ハンドルでV-8が入っていたそうです。それに初期型！？


Chevy II S/Sは正真正銘のディーラー車です。


Dealer車の'67 Chevy II S/S。ただ唸るだけです。


これも何とかしましょうよ！


大事にしているチャージャーもかなりの状態になってきました。


これは屋根下保管でした。


お宝に囲まれSmileのMax君

実はVega、VegaとMax君に夜な夜な電話を掛ける傍ら、同時にUSAでもVegaを探していたのです。早々2台見ましたが、どっちも何かピンと来ません。ピンと来たのはMax君のVegaだけでした。Vegaは難しい。


2台ともFrontは4穴でした。

Whenever drinking with my friend and talk about race cars, we often call MAX when we get drunk and ask him "would you sell your Vega?" not two or three times but more, so we went to check out the Vega at his yard.

It wasn't that bad when I last time saw it couple years ago, and was hoping it will be good even though it was outside and rained on. The race engine and transmission used on Glory Rod (1971 Nissan Gloria) were left as is and planned with my friend to find good rolling chassis of race car to drop it in and go for drag race. The plan was I will bring engine & transmission, my friend will bring car and we will share the race car and on top of that idea was to borrow or buy Vega from MAX. MAX's Vega was first model and looks cool and valuable among Vega and already in race car modified so It was ready to run after dropping engine and mission. This idea is Good! So we were getting excited for our thoughts. At least until we saw the real one. But easily the dream idea fell apart when we arrive at MAX's yard.

The way how tires are in and very difficult to make good looking Vega but for this point MAX's Vega was good and it looked good. 70's look! But again it was rusted and lighter by far. Probably the front windshield will fall out with rusted frames when its on the track. Too bad, it looked good! Have to rescue fast! Call 911 for Rescue!

Sadly the drinking dream of building race car with left out engine and rest was up to a car basically fell apart. After relaxing to see the MAX's yard, it was all in need of rescue. There were four of Datsun 510, Two of Nissan Gloria PA30, Datsun Z, '68 Camaro, '67 Chevy II S/S. This Chevy II S/S was the original dealer imported car from back then with serial plate tagged and PS, AC, AT the full loaded '67 Chevy II S/S was very rare. This was still able to rescue. There was Dodge Charger at back of the warehouse by yard, MAX is a collector. Max has kept this Honda Civic under the roof, of course!

Actually Vega, while calling MAX in the night, I was looking for Vega in USA too [ pic1 / pic2 ]. I saw two, almost buy them but wasn't inspired by the look of it, only MAX's Vega had inspired me. Vega is very difficult to built.

Long Beach Swap Meet

夏の間、南カリフォルニアはナゼか午前中は曇っている事が多いのですが、この時期になると日の出と共にスカッと晴れ上がります。そんな秋のSunday、Long Beach Swap Meetへ行ってきました。

Pomonaみたいに広大ではなく、手ごろな大きさの中にSwap MeetとCar For Saleがあります。「ちょっと行ってみようか」って感じで軽く行ける場所があって恵まれていますね。Car For Saleといってもその駐車場に止まっている車すべてが売り物と言うわけではなく、その駐車場はPreferred Parkingと呼ばれ、一般より多く払うと会場の近くに駐車できるという場所でもあるので、その様な車も多く止まっています。高く払えば近くに停まれるから歩く距離が短い、一般駐車場はこれに比べると安い（ここの場合はFREE）、だけど結構歩くことになる。Money Talks、分かりやすくていいですね。

そのPreferred Parkingで気になった車を紹介します。それはシェビーです。


この形のNovaが最近気になります。


これもNova。これは綺麗でしたがストレート6でした。


そして何げないカマロも気になりますね。


67年のRSなんかオリジナルペイントのようで最高じゃありませんか。


'69 Chevelleもいいですね。


70年 1/2以降のカマロも最近急激に人気があります。このMotion仕様カマロ（以前も紹介したかな）はMotionのステッカーが貼ってありました。


リアのN50はやり過ぎですね、L60がちょうどいいでしょう。Motion "M"、日本でも流行りました。大阪に一台あったっていうけど、どうしたでしょうか？一本バンパーのSTDモデルをRSの両側を分割するのはちょっと僕としては？です。と言いながら、昔Costa Mesaの友人の'70 1/2 Z28のSTDバンパーを直接ちょん切った事があったから、人の事は言えませんね。当時日本では1本バンパーが幻のように言われていました。「カマロで1本バンパー？そんなのあるの！」そんな程度だったんです。何気なくシボレーが良い感じです。

番外編でFord系、縦目のFairlaneと'67 Cougarです。67 & 68 Cougarは個人的に好きなのです。この辺の年式は僕らの学生時代の車、でもとても買えるような金額ではありませんでした。でもCougarは3万円だったかな？たった10年落ちでですよ！


そんな学生時代の車みたいのを最近購入した友人の'65 Cometを紹介しましょう。


購入時はこんな感じでしたが、ホイルとタイヤを交換し、低いフロントを上げるためにコイルスプリングに詰め物をして、車重で縮まないようにしたらこうなりました。


結構行けますよね！将来はここまで上げようとジャッキで上げてみたらこれまたカッコいい！


少し位車がクタビレテいてもタイヤとホイルを交換するだけでこうです。昔はこれだけで十分だったのです。このコメット、Long Beachの車たちと何か似た匂いを感じませんか？

本当に最後にLong Beachの帰りPCHで走っていたNovaです。どうやらNovaがカッコイイと思える歳に遂になったようです。


"Long Beach Swap Meet"
During summer, some how Southern California was usually clouded in morning and now in this season it is sunny from the sunrise. In this fall season, I went to the Sunday Long Beach Swap Meet.

It is not huge like Pomona, smaller but has quite good Swap Meet and cars for sale. It's very nice to have easy place to go, just like by saying "let’s go for a quick look". Cars for sale is not always every car parked in near spaces. The Preferred Parking is the actual name of parking space near by and anyone can park there with extra money and that's how cars for sales park in the same place. Pay extra to park near by and walk less or pay less to park far and walk more (this case its free parking). Money Talks, nice and simple, easy to understand.

Here are some cars caught my attention in that Preferred Parking. That's Chevy. Now days, getting This Nova is getting more attractive. This was Nova too. This one was clean but straight 6. The Camaro looks ordinary but catches my eyes [ pic1 / pic2 / pic3 ]. '67 RS was great with original paint? '69 Chevelle looks great too.

The Camaro after 1970 1/2 models are getting popular now days. This Motion look Camaro (may be introduced before) had Motion stickers on. Rear N50 is too much, L60 may be better. Motion "M" was popular in Japan long time ago. There was rumor for one existence in Osaka west side in Japan wonder what happened to that car. Single bumper standard model converted with RS separate bumpers may leave me a question. But I remember cutting standard bumper on friends '70 1/2 Camaro in Costa Mesa long time ago too. Back than 1 piece bumper was very rare in Japan. Many people didn't even know and said "single bumper? They exists?". MOPAR's are of course popular, but Chevy's are also cool now in very ordinary way.

The extra on Fords, the vertical lights Fairlane and '67 Cougar. '67 & '68 Cougar are my personal favorite.

These years are cars in college student days, but very expensive to afford. But Cougar was about 30,000yen?, price fall in just 10 years.

Let me introduce my friend who recently bout '65 Commet, just like cars in college days. The car was like this when purchased but with new tires and wheels changed and lifted front with parts between the springs and here is how it looks now. Pretty good isn't it? Lifted to the future project height on garage lift and it looked cool. Old looking car can change this much with tire and wheels. This was good enough for old days. Do you feel the same kind of thing about this Commet and those in Long Beach. The last and really driving Nova cruising on PCH from way back to home from Long Beach. Looks like I have reached age to think Nova looks cool.

Today's MOONEYES USA

MOONEYES USAでは10月のNHRA California Hot Rod Reunion（CHRR）に向けて、MOONEYES Dragsterの製作が着々と進んでいます。 今年のCHRRは60年代、イギリスへDrag Raceを伝えたAmerican TeamのRace Carがテーマの様です。勿論、MOONEYES Dragsterもその中の1台ですから、どうしても完成させないといけないのです。でも、残り数週間しかありません。

50年 Ford WoodyもFrontのMustang II サスペンションへの変更が終わり、New Motorを積むのを待っている状態です。



が、その後まだWoodの張替え等があるので、少なくても2-3年は掛かる、ゆっくりProjectです。日本でもWoody小林が同じ形のWoodyの修理をしています。はたから見ていても大変すぎる作業、完成されたWoodyが高いのも理解できますね。



Bonnevilleを走った32年 Deuceもガレージに展示されていました。嬉しそうなDean MOON Jr.は長い事抱えていた問題が解決した、と証明の紙を見せてくれました。

最後に、今開発中の商品をお見せします。

"Today's MOONEYES USA"
MOONEYES USA is getting Dragster ready for NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion(CHRR) in October. This year's CHRR has theme of American Team Drag Race Car who went across to England to introduce "Drag Racing" back in 60s. Of course the MOONEYES Dragster was one of them and has to complete to join the theme. But only few weeks are left.

'50 Ford Woody has complete new Front Mustang II suspension and now waiting for New Motor to be loaded. But the wood has to be restored so it will take at least 2 to 3 years, very time taking project.

In Japan Woody Kobayashi is on restoration project of same style Woody. It's so much work just by looking at him work, its very understandable how the completed Woody is expensive.

'32 Deuce which run in Bonneville is also displayed at garage. Happy Dean MOON Jr. has solved long holding problem and showed me its paper of proof.

Lastly here is a new product on the way. Picture is MOON Original HD Shovel Finned Point Cover. Same time Air Clear will be released. It was like this in MOONEYES USA today.

Super Weekend 長野

長野市の元オリンピック施設 M-Waveで開催された、Flat Head主催のSuper Weekendに行ってきました。（敬称略）


30年位前は電車でも4時間、車だったら6-7時間位は掛かったでしょうか。昔、クラウンでスキーに行った時、スピンして雪の壁にぶつかったのを覚えています。今は東京駅から長野まで新幹線で2時間、車だと4時間位。近くなりました。

さて何十年振りかの長野です。多分30年以上かな？その長野でインドア カーショーが開催されたのは昨年、今年で2回目です。

"Super Weekend 2007"
I went to City of Nagano last weekend where car show called "Super Weekend 2007" was held by Flat Head at X-Winter Olympic facility called "M-Wave". I've never been in Nagano since when I was in University which is about 30 some years ago. I used to go there for skiing almost every winter, because ski was very popular back then like snowboard now. It took about 4 hours by train and 6 to 7 hours by car to get Nagano back then. Narrow one lane road always up to Nagano, it's almost impossible to pass the car ahead of you. It was long, long and slow move traffic. I still remember that I took my 1970 Toyota Crown and crash into snow wall. Now, it only takes 2 hours by bullet train and about 4 hours on highway by car.

It was 2nd Annual Show this year and it is very interesting to having car show in this area. Because there is no big car show in Nagano before this show was held in 2006. Show Cars, Motorcycles, Bands, Raffles, a lots vendor booths and awards, it was great show. Thanks to Flat Head! Hope, we can see you again at Nagano in 2008!

Summer is over?

先週の日曜日は北海道のSCN、今年で17回にもなるのです。関東の暑さ＆湿気と比べると北海道の涼しさはなんとも心地良いのですが、現地の方々は口々に「今日は暑い」と言ってたのが印象的でした。北海道もフィンランドと同様、夏は車・バイクで走り回り、冬にゆっくりカスタムするのでしょう。どうも暑さ寒さにメリハリの無い地域では毎日が同じテンポなので、そういった変化が無い事が逆にカスタムした車やバイクに乗る感動が薄れてしまうのかもしれません。

さて、ショーは快晴の下、遊園地の立地を最大限に利用し、あちらこちらにショーカーが展示され、一周するのは大変ですが周回遊覧バスがあるのでそちらを利用し、意外と楽に見れました。と言っても乗りっぱなしだったのですが。

Long Distance、God Bless賞、Best of The Showを受賞したのは愛知県から参加の佐々木さんのリンカーン ゼファーで、Low Rider Car ClubのEsmeralda Car ClubはCar Club賞、MOONEYES賞は三上さんの2007年 トヨタ カローラ フィールダー Woodyとなりました。



Swap Meetでは「車のぬいぐるみ」を作るRocket Craftが出店。どうです、実写とぬいぐるみの比較は？こんな器用な事ができて凄いですね。なかなか忠実な仕上がりだと思います。来年は避暑を兼ねて北海道SCNに参加しましょう！

北海道から戻り、MOONEYES Area-1にいると、Canada人のご夫婦でMr. & Mrs. Weldonが「日本に行ったら絶対、MOONEYESに行かなくてはいけなかった」と東京から電車とタクシーを乗り継いでわざわざ尋ねて来てくれました。



聞けば彼はBonneville Racerとの事。彼の車は#261 Watson & Welden "Swap Meet Roadster"というRace Carだそうで、今年のBonnevilleでChicoと会ったと言っていました。最近外国からお客様が本当に多くなりました。嬉しいです。



すると翌日にはMOONEYES Fanが愛車のハイエースにWildmanのピンスライプを入れに御来店。丸一日　お子さんと遊んで行かれました。何と昼食・夜食共、MOON Cafeをご利用頂きました。ありがとうございました。夏休みも今週末で終わりですね。夏休み最後のイベントは「MOONEYES Area-1 Junk Fair」。明日2日(日)に開催します。僕は土日、長野で開催されるSuper Weekend 2007に参加してきます。

"Summer is over?"
Last Sunday was Street Car Nationals in Hokkaido(North end Japan), this year is 17th year. It was cool and nice, less humid in Hokkaido compared to east side near Yokohama but how many local people were saying "Its hot today" was impressive. Hokkaido is just like in Finland too, people ride a motorcycle and drive a car around in summer and work on custom in winter. May be in place with no temperature difference in season and same tempo everyday may loose its impressive feeling of riding a motorcycle and driving a car.

Now under the sunny blue sky the Show was hosted in the amusement park premises using all the spaces which spread out and long walk to look around but using the bus going around the park was easy to look around. But actually was on the bus all the time.

Long distance, God Bless(Hi Performance shop) award, Best of the Show was given to the Lincoln Zephyr owner Mr. SASAKI from Aichi prefecture central part Japan, Low Rider Car Club "Esmeralda Car Club" took Car Club award, MOONEYES Award went to TOYOTA Corolla Fielder Woody owner MR. MIKAMI and more award were given to.

Swap Meet had "stuffed doll of your car" made by "Rocket Craft" was out there, how about this one compare doll with picture, amazing hand craft, very true to details. Next year lets go and entry to Hokkaido SCN, getting away from the hot summer heat.

Back from Hokkaido at MOONEYES Area-1, Canadian couple Mr. & Mrs. Weldon were visiting us by taking train and taxi, saying "Must go to MOONEYES when we are in Japan". Found out he was a Bonneville racer and his car was #261 Watson& Weldon "Swap Meet Roadster" Race Car and met Chico at this years Bonneville. I promise them to see you again at 2008 Bonneville. Recently many visitors from abroad has increased. I am happy for that.

Then on the next day one of MOONEYES Fan has visited Area-1 whole day with his sons to have Wildman's Pinstripe on his TOYOTA HIACE. They had Lunch and Dinner at MOON Cafe. Thank you very much!

The summer Holiday will end on this weekend. The last event of summer holiday. There is blow out sale Called "Junk Fair" at MOONEYES Area-1 on Sunday September 2nd and MOONEYES will attend Super Weekend 2007 at Nagano on Saturday and Sunday, so I will be there.

FinlandのHot Rods & Kustoms

FinlandはScandinavia諸国のSwedenやNorwayと同様に、Hot Rod、Kustom＆Drag Race、とAmerican Car Cultureが盛んな国です。最近はDriftも大人気だそうです。そんなですからそれぞれの国にMOONEYES Dealerがあるのは勿論です。MOONEYES Dealer Finlandは新しい場所に移転し、その他2軒のShopと一つの工場をシェアしていました。



一つは"Primer Magazine"というFinlandのHot Rod＆Kustom Magazineです。今まではFinland語でしか発行していませんでしたが、最近英語版も発行し、にわかに注目を浴びている雑誌でもあります。

もう一軒はHot Rod＆Kustomを製作するShopで、そのオーナーは2004年 我々がSwedenのRat Fink Reunionに行った際、MOONEYES USA Awardを受賞した方でした。また、彼の奥様が車のインテリアを作る部屋もあり、MOONEYES FinlandでPartsを購入し、このShopで内外装を製作し、完成したらPrimer Magazineが取材してくれる、という何とも一石二鳥・三鳥の場所でした。日本にあってもいいかも知れませんね。

今回、GPS付きのVolvoをレンタカーしましたが、この日はFinlandのPinstriperの第一人者で、2004年のYOKOHAMA HOT ROD・Custom Showに来日した事もあるPekkaが、友人のUnu Vinhavaの1949年 Cadで一日中ヘルシンキ市内のShopやCar ClubのClub House等に連れて行ってくれました。

次に向かったのはRoad Pilots Car ClubのClub House。非常時にはシェルターになる半地下のガレージには、数台のHot RodとともにDickiesを履いたメンバーが我々を待っていてくれました。しばらくDickiesを履いた人を見なかったので、この国に来て久しぶりに見るDickies。Finlandで購入するのは高いそうです。

Road Pilotsのガレージ入り口にあった34 FordはWW II 時代　救急車として使われていたという歴史ある車です。そう言えばウチにも赤坂警察が戦前使っていた34 Ford フェートンがありましたが、その後どうしているでしょうか。このガレージ奥にはClub RoomにメンバーがくつろげるBar等もあり、寒い長い冬の間にここに集まり、車を作るそうです。

Road Pilotsを後にし、オーナーのKARI SAARBLAがすべて自分で作ったというKustomed 1949年Buick RoadmasterとCadの2台で、PekkaもそしてCadのオーナー、BuickのオーナーもメンバーのTomahawk Car ClubのClub Houseへと向かったのです。

ボルボ、ベンツ、BMW等 新し目の車ばかり走る道で、2台のKustom USA車は信号待ちで歩行者に記念写真を撮られたり、並走する車からは「ZZ Topと同じ車？」とか質問されたり大変な人気でした。


TomahawkのClub Houseには、我々が行く事を事前に知ったHot Rodder達が月曜日だというのにわざわざ集まってくれて、我々を歓迎してくれました。今更のようにMOONをやらせてくれたDean MOONに感謝です。

Tomahawkのガレージは広大、しかも古い古い建物で、中には商売が出来るくらいの工作機械等が揃い、ペイントブースまであったのです。勿論、Barもあり、我々にとって適度に冷えたビールを頂きました。


彼らのClub Houseの隣にはHarleyのClub KONE MCのClub Houseがあり、こちらも商売ではないのに十分な機械があり、冬の間に色々Projectを進めるとの事でした。暖かい時期は皆Bikeに乗っているので、中がカラになってしまうそうです。勿論このClub Houseにもお決まりのBarがあります。

こんな環境で車やバイクが楽しめたらいいな～、って感じでヘルシンキの街を案内してもらいました。ほとんどの人が英語をしゃべるので比較的不自由なく過ごせ、Finlandは是非また尋ねたい国の一つです。今回、我々のHelsinki Tourに協力してくれたMr. & Mrs. Mikael、そしてPekka、Tomahawk Car Clubの方々に感謝すると共に、Road Pilots、各Shopの皆さん、Fin Toyのメンバーにもお礼を申し上げます。ありがとう！

Hot Rods & Kustoms in Finland
Finland is part of Scandinavian countries and like Sweden and Norway American car culture such as Hot Rod, Kustom & Drag Race are seen active in Finland too. Now days "D-1 Drifting" is getting popular too. Since the car culture is there, it is only natural to have MOONEYES Dealer in each country. MOONEYES Dealer in Finland has moved to new location, sharing factory with 2 shops.

One is Primer Magazine" publisher of Finland Hot Rod & Kustom Magazine. Up till now it was in Finnish only but now they have English version too and getting popular.

The Second shop is a Hot Rod & Kustom builder shop and the owner was the winner of our MOONEYES USA prize when we went to the Rat Fink Reunion at Sweden in 2004. There was a room for his wife where she makes interior (upholstery), so buy parts at MOONEYES Finland, Have interior and exterior done in this shop, then the Primer magazine can report your car when you are done. So this place is like one stop for two or three good things. Wouldn't it be nice to have place like this in Japan too.

This time we have rented Volvo with GPS but that day Pekka, Finland's first Pinstriper who came to Japan for the YOKOHAMA HOT ROD Custom Show 2004 and his friend Unu Vinhava on his 1949 Cadillac had taken us around the shop and club house of Car Clubs in Helsinki.

Next we headed to the "Road Pilots" Car Club's club house, in the half story below garage where it was made for emergency shelter were some Hot Rod and members with Dickies were waiting for us. I didn't see Dickies at all in Finland until I came to meet them, Dickies are expensive in Finland.

The 34 Ford in entrance of Garage has a historical back ground as it was used as an ambulance in WW II which reminds me of 34 Ford Phaeton we had before which was used in AKASAKA Police (in Tokyo) before WW II in Japan, wonder how is that car doing now. There was a lounge like bar at far inside their garage and members gather in in Winter at this garage to build their cars in long and ｃold Winter.

After "Road Pilots" we headed to the Tomahawk Car Club's club house called "Tomahawk Town" on Kustomed 1949 Buick Roadmaster built all by owner Kari Saarbla and Unu Vinhava's 1949 Cadillac where Pekka, Unu the Cadillac Owner and Kari the Buick owner are all in Tomahawk Car Club. On the road with new Volvo, Mercedes and BMW are all there is to be seen, two of Kustom USA cars were getting so much attention like taken picture by tourist and asked by the cars driving beside "Is this same car as the ZZ Top?".

At Club house on Tomahawk Car Club, some Hot Rodders has gathered to welcome us even though it was on weekday Monday. I thank Dean Moon now again for letting me inherit MOON. Tomahawk garage was very big and building was very very old, inside was plenty of machines to work on like pro shop and even had a paint booth. Of course the bar was there too and had a cold beer.

In next door to their club house was club house of Harley Davidson Club called "KONE MC". There were enough shop Machine like pro shop and they spend their winter season to do their projects. When its in warm season the club house gets empty as everyone is busy riding it. And this club house has bar too.

The tour in Helsinki was like how we imagine if we can enjoy cars and bikes. All most every one had no problem with speaking English and Finland is definitely another country we would like to visit again. I like to give my best regards and big thank you to everyone who helped us on touring Helsinki Mr. & Mrs. Mikael and Pekka, Tomahawk Car Club members and Road Pilots Car Club members, Everyone at All Shops visited and Fin Toy Car Club members ! Thank you!

速報 Bonneville Speed Week

Bonneville: 32 Three Window Coupe "MOONEYES Sp'l"


遂にChicoがSpeed WeekでのライセンスランでC-License（200mphオーバーで走って良い）を取得したそうです。これで何マイルでも出してくれ、っていうライセンスです。

2008年のBonneville Speed Weekには、製作中のModified Roadsterで参加出来そうです。 後は車次第！Hotelの予約を早くしないとWendoverの小さな街はすぐに一杯になってしまいます。

Finally Chico got C-License (to run over 200 mph) on License Run at Bonneville Speed Week. This is a License to go as fast as he can at Bonneville. Looks like we can go to 2008 Bonneville Speed Week with his under construction Modified Roadster. Now its all up to finishing his Roadster! Have to reserve the Hotel quickly for little town Wendover as it will be full in no time. Here is Chico behind the wheel.

第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007

12月2日(日)に開催される第16回 ヨコハマ ホットロッド・カスタムショー 2007(HCS)の内容がおおよそ決まりました。


USAからKennedy Brothers製作の32年 Devile Deuce。


Classic Trucks Magazine編集長であり、HCSの開催にいつも多大な協力をしてくれているRob Fortieの愛車で、Cole Foster制作のChopped 53 Chevy。



南カリフォルニアのバイクシーンに新たなシーンを作り、East LAにShopを構えるSuperco CustomsのTrevelen。
Super Co. Customs Trevelen's KIWI Indian "CRAZY HORSE"は、諸事情により展示不可能となりました。ご了承下さい。

関西弁が冴えまくり、USAのTV等で大変人気のあるChica Custom CyclesのChica。


Cole Fosterも彼の最新作「MOON Rocket」を持ち込み、


2年前に来日したKutty。

3回目の来日となるJeff Decker、そしてChoppertown DVDの中で主人公的役柄のRico、Danny Takahashi君も遊びに来るそうですから、Sinnersの中心的メンバーがヨコハマに集合って感じになるようです。



アーテイストではLine Dr.、Keith Weesner、Pizz、Harpoon、Dan Colins（？）、アルミ職人のRon Covel、AustraliaからTikiのカービングをするTiki Beat-Marcosも参加します。Trophy QueenやDicE Magazineも来ますし、ヨーロッパからはWild Motorcyclesも来日予定です。今の段階では以上ですが、日が経つにつれ話がどんどん膨れていくので、10月くらいまではハッキリした内容が確定できないのが毎年の事なのです。世界からナゼか注目される日本のショー、今年もきっと楽しくなるでしょう。HCS情報はMOONEYES WebsiteでUpされますのでマメにチェックして下さい。

The 16th Annual Yokohama HOTROD CUSTOM SHOW 2007(HCS) will be hosted on Sunday December 2nd and almost all contents has been fixed.

The Trevelen from Superco Customs. who has shop in East L.A., and Making new Scene in the Southern California Motorcycle scene. Chica from Chica Custom Cycles with dry West Japan accent and popular from the TV program in USA.

Cole Foster will bring his brand new bike called "MOON Rocket", Kutty who was here 2 years ago, Third time for Jeff Decker, first time for Rico who is one of main feature from the Choppertown DVD, Danny Takahashi will be here too, so all core members of "Sinners" will meet up in Yokohama.

Artists are Line Dr., Keith Weesner, Pizz, Harpoon, Dan Colins(?), Aluminum craft man Ron Covel, Tiki Beat - Marcos for Tiki Carving will be here from Australia. Trophy Queen and DicE Magazine will be here too. Wild Motorcycles from Europe will be here too.

That's all for now, but usually gets increased as the day goes by, so we can not say for sure until October. For some reason this show in Japan is getting a lot of attention from all over the world. El MirageとDeuce Coupe

カタログ用の写真を撮る為、Wildmanが2日掛かりで完成させた32 Ford 3 WindowをDry Lake、El Mirage（エルミラージュ）に持ち出しました。



この車は昨年のBonnevilleでChicoがLicense RunをしたDeuceですが、オーナー Timは今回 MOON YellowにPaintしてくれただけでなく、Logoも沢山入れてくれたのです。見るからにMOON Carですね。カッコイイ！

ChicoのModified Roadsterもタイヤ等を仮組みしたら、それらしくなって来ました。





Dry LakeとMOON Deuce Coupe、夢のようなコンビネーションです。

MOON Deuceは8月のBonneville Speed Weekでデビューする予定です。今年のBonnevilleには行けそうもありませんが、来年はSpeed Weekの60周年。今から計画を立て、行けるようにしないと、永遠に行けそうにありません。



Dry LakeがSouthern Californiaにあって良かったです。MOON Discは永遠ですね！



El Mirageで後ろ姿がDean MOONにそっくりなRacerに会いました。彼と友人はSide Winder Car Clubのメンバー。故 Fred Larsenもメンバーでした。

To take the pictures for Catalogs, the 32 Ford Three Window Coupe which Wildman took 2 days to finish was taken out to the Dry Lake, El Mirage. This Deuce is the one Chico took for License Run in last years Bonneville but the owner Tim wanted to make more than new MOON Yellow paint but had new Logo Painted this time. Looks MOON Car. Cool!

Chico's Modified Roadster looks like one with wheels and tires. Dry Lake and MOON Deuce Coupe, it's a dream combination. MOON Deuce will run first debut on Bonneville Speed Week in August. This year looks like not possible to go to Bonneville but next year is Speed Weeks 60th anniversary and need to plan this one or I will not be able to go forever. Lucky the Dry lake is in Southern California. MOON Disc is forever.

At El Mirage, we met a racer who looks just like Dean MOON from behind. He and his friend are member of "Side Winder Car Club". The late Fred Larsen was a member too.

Barris Kustom

この二日間、今年のHOT ROD・Custom Showに呼ぶ車とバイクを見るのであっちこっちを走り回り、最後に到着したのがPomonaにあるNHRA Museumでした。それも閉館45分前、普通なら6ドルですが時間が短いので「寄付 1ドルでいいよ」ってオジサン（お爺さん）が言ってくれたので、嬉しくて寄付の理由を聞き忘れました。



奥に進むと何と！Barris Kustomの特集（？）をやっていたのです。Barrisの車を一同に見れることはあまり無かったので、7台も見れるとはラッキーでした。中でもBarrisが日系Bob Hirohataに作った有名な"Hirohata Mercury"があったのです。それもクローンではなく本物です。オリジナルがちゃんと残っている所がUSAの車文化はすごいですね。
